Visited this spot to show some love to the Pilsen community. It was a good spot and I'd go back if I'm in the area. The spot was empty when we went for a relatively early dinner. My drink (mocktail) was amazing. The tacos and food were also tasty.

We walked over to taco azteca after we saw our usual place was closed. We got a seat right away as it was empty (on a Sunday during brunch time). I ordered pozole verde de pollo and my bf got the sopes (1 Barbacoa, 1 cochinita pibil, and 1 chicken). We got chips and salsa at the table. The salsa was so good but the chips were stale. The food is made to order so it took about 25 minutes for our food. The food presentation is very nice. The masa for the sopes has such a great taste and they were so cute because they were pink. The cochinita pibil was the best out of the three. I didn't really like the chicken or barbacoa. The pozole broth was good but had too much oregano for my liking. I also didn't like that the chicken was grilled separately then placed into the pozole. This may be my preference but i think chicken should be cooked in the pozole to make it authentic. I wouldn't come back to this location but i would try the one in Bridgeport.

Stopped by for early takeout lunch, they came highly recommended from friends that live in the area. I ordered shrimp, Arabe, fried avocado, and mushroom mole. Unfortunately, when I arrived, they said they didn't have mushrooms and asked if I wanted a different vegetable offering. I took them up on it, ans they turned out beautifully in the foreground picture. They appeared to be hand-making their own tortillas in their open kitchen, and they have an interior style that is cohesive and fun. There are cross-cut tree tables and interesting carved artwork for decor, lending to a warm vibe in the dining room and bar. I'll have to check out their dine-in experience another time. Their tacos are some of the most beautiful and tasty I've tried! They aren't just a filling with onions and cilantro, each taco has different ingredients and sauces that support the main element in terms of flavor and consistency. The grilled shrimp had crunchy cabbage and creamy avocado, the arabe had a nice pico and flavorful sauce. The vegetables were crisp, fresh, and sported diverse textures for a lively arrangement. Definitely want to return to try their other options!

We came in late on a Wednesday night just looking for a place still open. The place is super cute and the service is prompt. No worries if you don't speak Spanish or aren't great with figuring out menus the staff will help and make recommendations. The cook is making everything fresh to order and the prices are reasonable. I would consider this place trendy as they have a full bar, tvs, and music. It was a Wednesday night so I don't really know but I have a feeling it's awesome on the weekend. The tacos are delicious with the appropriate amount of spice. They don't give you salsa unless you ask but all tacos have a little on them already. I would like to try the dinners and have a drink when I stop in another time.

I wish I could give them 10 stars! I'm a picky eater, and this was amazing. Wehad 4 moms and 4 daughters and we all loved everything we had. You absolutely cannot go wrong here. The strawberry mojito was about the best thing I've ever tried. The service was a little slow, but the waiter was also the bartender and he was the only guy working. The atmosphere is adorable, nothing like what it looks like from the outside!

I rarely make the effort to rate restaurants on yelp, but the food here was so good i had to. seriously incredible flavors and visually appealing plating. the complimentary plantain chips and mole salsa were so good i would have paid to order them. i got the empanadas con camaron and the enchiladas tres moles, and they were both amazing. the service was kind and the prices were affordable too!

I was excited at first, El Taco Azteca. You can't get a more authentic name than that. Their tacos looked promising, but the flavor was just not there. Customer service was great. Our server was very kind and very professional, despite a little bit of a disagreement prior to ordering. She was very polite from beginning to end. They start you off with chips and salsa with a twist. My biggest complaint is the way they have their menu. They only allow you to order tacos in groups of two. So if you want to order one of each, you can't. I was stuck order lengua and al pastor for a total of four. My wife ordered their carne Asada tacos. Tequila lime grilled ribeye and came with green molcajete sauce. I can assure you that there wasn't any presence of tequila nor molcajete sauce. Just a green salsa. My lengua tacos were by far the worst lengua tacos I have ever tried. They serve you a slice of lengua and was supposed to be topped off with frisée salad and green salsa. This was the same green salsa that was on the carne Asada tacos that was supposed to have molcajete sauce. Back to the lengua tacos. They also added cactus to taco which made it much worse. This is where the two of the same taco per order part sucks. I usually order one of each for a total of three tacos (Asada, pastor and lengua) those meats are my go to whenever I order tacos. Had I been able to do that, I would have just tried one lengua, not liked it and moved the f on. But no, I had to eat this god awful taco again, because it was required. I also ordered their al pastor. This was supposed to be served with salsa de chile de Arbol, and pineapple pico de Gallo. This taco was was very tasty, but where the hell was the pico de Gallo with pineapple? I will give them one thing other than the nice lady that was taking care of us. Their presentation was spot on. The tacos themselves looked beautiful. But they use to large of plates for the tacos. So when served at the table; They looked del ious but sad. And when I ordered 4 tacos I received two large plates. Just wished they would serve the food with items that are on the menu. They make it sound so delicious, but they weren't. Sorry. Never again.

Handmade tortilla is absolutely worth the wait (which is about 40 mins for an order). Seriously the best tacos in town. Lots of vegetarian options that are delicious. Tried every flavor and everything was top-notch. Highly recommended. read more

Best tacos we've had in Chicago! Flavorful, perfectly spiced & beautifully presented! We also had guacamole, which had just the rest gut amount of radish, onion & tomato - so the tasty avocado really shined through. The chips & salsa are very unique. The chips were crispy, thin & freshly prepared freshly prepared & the salsa was thick, smoky & piquant. We ate at the restaurant on a Saturday afternoon. The space is clean, the service is attentive & the atmosphere was friendly. There were not too many people eating inside, but there was a steady trek of folks picking up carry out. We'll be back! The tacos were okay. The service was not. We waited at a dirty table for about 20 minutes before it was cleaned and we got menus. We both requested things be left off our food ( onions, pico) and the waitress said they didn't come with them, but they were definitely there. Hate to be a Karen, but the food took a while, and we were the only ones in there. I had to find the waitress to get the check and she looked irritated that we were ready to go. FINALLY! Found a taco restaurant that serves deeeeeeelish tacos. We moved from So Cal to Schaumburg Illinois and trying to find a tasteful, mouthwatering taco joint has been a challenge. The minute we walked in we were greeted with a smile and "welcome to El Taco Aztecs" from Angela who's customer service was beyond expectation. We ordered fresh waters. My wife had the horchata and I indulged in a large jamica which was refreshing and satisfying. The tortillas were hand made, I also purchased some to go! Salsa was house made and had a good kick. I had the pastor and Lomo tacos which were gratifying. The pastor and lomo were juicy, tender and covered with all the extras. The dining area was clean, restroom spotless and overall experience was satisfying. We will be back to feast and feed our taco cravings. read more

Great value for a great meal. We had the chicken empanadas, elote, asada taco, chicken mole taco, and fish taco which were all delicious. The tortillas were a little on the thin/soft side for me. The homemade chips and salsa which come with the table were excellent. We loved the passionfruit mojito. The only reason I gave a 4 star is because the water glass had a lip stain on it. Had a pretty good experience here on my visit.Am new to the area.Although Im a lifelong Chicagoan and am VERY FAMILIAR with Pilsen.Have been doing my rounds in the neighborhood to see what else I could find.Glad I found this spot.After reading the reviews I learned that I could only order the tacos in 2's.So if I wanted the carne asada I needed to order 2.And if I wanted shrimp I also needed to order 2.Because they come in pairs.I will say that these are not your everyday average tacos.They are actually very well flavored and the presentation is well executed.Which Im thinking is the reason the only sell them in pairs.Well,not sure WHY but I suppose.Anyway,I ended up with a total of FOUR TACOS.Had 2 carne asada and 2 shrimp.When they arrived to my table I was like,"WHHHAAAAAT THE HEEEEEELL??!!" These tacos were BIG!!!! I though no way I was going to be able to eat these four BIG ASS TACOS!!! Well,I somehow managed.Pheeeeew.And they were delicious.About my only complaint was when they brought me salsa they brought me VERY LITTLE.Im talking I could've used it all on just one taco.But least now I know.Next time I'll just ask for EXTRA EXTRA SALSA.Other than that I had a good experience and will definitely return. read more

The place is beautiful walking in off the street. The Queso with vegetables was really good but lacking enough tortillas for the dish. The chips were perfect but served with ancho chili paste. The Coca Cola Tacos were like a Mexican version of hospital food. The meat was cooked perfect but lacked any complementary flavors. The pickled onions and vegetables had no bit. Tacos are good. taco tuesday could have been our go to. Service needs a little work. We came two weeks in a row. First time, was told taco orders must be in twos. No worries, had to post on insta to get it addressed because of new wait employees. Friends got excited so we decided to do it again the following week with them. Unfortunately, told again... must order in pairs. Had to remind the wait staff. Was very attentive to our needs otherwise. Really wanted this place to be our go to Tuesday stop. The experience wasn't great. Arrived with two cousins and the place was empty so we thought "Great we'll get better service and no mistakes in our orders"... never assume and you know why. The only highlight the tacos are inspired, interesting, and delicious. Everything else not so much. The salads, soups, drinks are not made with quality ingredients and I will leave it at that. Ordered the guacamole with queritos and got served plain gauc but told that there was pork rinds in it.. there wasn't even crushed pork rinds let alone small pieces. Also ordered cafe de olla only to be told they weren't going to make it because it was a hot day. Your customers put their trust in your service and judgement in quality of your ingredients. Also customers have their own preferences. Some people like drinking hot drinks in summer/warm climates and eating ice cream during winter/cold climates. Don't offer it on your menu if you refuse to make it. (Lack of ingredients I could be understanding of but refusal due to laziness, you have lost our patronage) read more

This place is a hidden gem! We got their shrimp empanadas, pastor tacos and fish tacos. Each dish got better and better. The service was good, us and one other table of 2 were all that were dining for lunch, which surprises me for how amazing their food is. I also didn't see any take out orders. Maybe it's more of a evenings and weekend place. I didn't quite understand their decor....big wood/tree tables and benches and not much on the walls. But the food was so good that I truly could care less about the decor. I will be coming back often as I work in the area. Why did it take me so long to find this place. One extra note: I love fish tacos. I would say antique tacos fish taco, is one step up because they use liquid smoke or smoke their cabbage. I greatly enjoy that feature. read more

Very sad Al pastor tacos we always order these all the time, well missing the best part of the taco the Pineapple garnish . We called about why are these tacos different and they said when the food goes out they have policy they can't fix the food or credit us , Nothing they can do and hung up on us . You just lost customers and we will never come back !!!!! Horrible service !!!!!!! read more

I ordered off of Grubhub and I made it a point to make sure I come here and let you know do not order from this place. I ordered birria tacos with cheese. I got no cossome at all. I also ordered chorizo tacos. Now both orders of tacos literally looked like they were just thrown in the box. It was not packaged well at all. They literally threw all the ingredients in the styro foam container and that was it. When it got to me, the entire filling of the tacos were outside of the taco, so I had to pretty much make the taco myself. I took a few bites and threw it all in the garbage. I was highly disgusted. I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant. The pictures are a whole lie. I wish I had pictures to show everyone. read more

Ordered through UberEats and had my food delivered quickly and still fresh. Had the Al Pastor tacos, shrimp empanadas and traditional guacamole. Tacos and empanadas came with blue corn tortilla/masa. I did not realize this when ordering, so when I opened the packages, it looked weird at first. But it tastes like they might be homemade. Very good! Don't let the visual throw you. You get two tacos per $7 order and the amount of meat is great. I could barely finish two tacos and one empanada. The empanadas $6 for two, have a bit of heat and are drizzled in crema and sprinkled with cheese. Very filling, too. The guac $3, was more like chunky avocado tomato salsa with lime. The ingredients and flavors were good, but I prefer the avocado in my guac to be more creamy. Very minor complaint. The chips that came with the guac were awesome, though: corn chip, plaintain chip and a third I couldn't figure out (maybe taro)? Thinly sliced and crispy. I would totally order from El Taco Azteca again. Interested in trying out their other tacos. Their menu seems pretty simple, and it's clear they execute their food well. I agree with another review that says it's kind of fancier Mexican without the extraordinary prices. Good eats!!! read more

Here's the thing: initially, I was rocking with El Taco Azteca. They have (bomb fish tacos if you don't speak emoji), tasty plantain/tortilla/taro chips, chicharron guacamole, and they put shrimp in their queso fundido. So, why one star? We went to ETA expecting our usual great food, and ordered the chicharron guacamole, two orders of fish tacos, an order of shrimp tacos, and the Azteca salad. First the guac comes out and there are no chicharrones in there. Zero. I searched around in there and all I found were tortilla strips (which don't usually come in it). When I let the manager know about it, he tried to say they were in there, but I was hungry, not blind. He offered to bring a side of chicharrones which I accepted, but he ended up making a whole nother order (which makes me think he was trying to get over on ya boy). But I was willing to overlook this because the second order was good. The meal went smoothly after that until I bit into my taco and chomped down on a foreign object. I pulled it out of my mouth and it was some kind of metal wire or something. This fish taco nearly took my life! When I pointed this out to my server, she took it to the manager, and he sent her back to apologize, but HE never came out. He took one order of tacos off the bill and gave us a 20% discount. Love the Guac w/o the panela chess. The carne asada tacos are delicious, well seasoned and tender. The kitchen and wait staff are allergy sensitive and friendly. I made sure my tacos are gluten free and the staff guaranteed there was no cross contamination. read more

Driving in the city on an empty stomach bad idea. I was in the Pilsen area looking for a good Mexican restaurant. I had walked by this restaurant a couple of times before and so I thought I would give it a try after reading all the reviews. The menu is pretty self explanatory tacos, tortas ( comes with a side of fries) and salads. I ordered 2 pollo en Mole tacos. Ok guys I'm pretty picky when it comes to my Mexican food. I grew up on authentic Mexican food. I understand the hype don't get me wrong who doesn't love tacos. The presentation of the taco is awesome but when it comes to quality and authenticity of a taco it lacked. The mole on this taco was sweet and good in flavor. The chicken was very bland no taste. So I didn't eat the chicken. My sister had the cecina taco she said it was great! ! If you don't like spicy or a kick to your taco skip it. But she said the cecina taco was waaaayy better then the pollo en mole. The chips and salsa were great ! ! ! The chips served is a selection of tortilla, yucca, and plantain chips. Also, it is a BYOB so I thought that was a plus. The restaurant itself has a hipster vibe, low key. The customer service was good. We were seated right away, got our drinks, and ordered taken. However, we were not offered water while we waited and no utensils were given to us. But the table next to us did get waters and utensils. I was disappointed with my visit. just strolling up Cermak looking for a quick bite, when i stopped to check out these young dudes spray painting a piece on this store front, "Gourmet Tacos" is how it read. "peep the tacos man, they're tight" "yeah I'll do that" Delicious. the ingredients are organic, locally sourced, fresh, and may be paired traditionally (al pastor con piña) or creatively (shrimp w fermented red onion and topped w fried kale); both are super dope. the tortillas are hand made in house...the tortillas...are hand made...in house. the menu is simple and very understated - you'll know what I mean once you taste these gourmet tacos. I tried 5 different tacos - I'll happily order each of them again. also, the coffee...holy shit! This place doesn't look like much when you walk past but it's def a great place to try different mexican food. I see a lot of people complaining about 'authentic mexican' but TBH who the hell knows anymore what's authentic? To me what matters the most is the taste and flavor and I was very happy with them. Give them a try instead of reading other people's negativity and you'll soon find out that people just don't know what they're talking about. Matter of fact most people create a yelp account just to complain. I did the opposite, I created one to praise great amazing food. This place is not the best, but it's pretty great. read more

Oh my my my goodness. Friends brought me here, what an awesome experience!! It's small and we were by the kitchen- got to see some action.. the food was sooo amazing!!! Ordered two different tacos and enjoyed both. The owner/chef was extremely welcoming and you could see that he was making an extra effort to ensure that we felt taken care of. The pre-meal chips were delicious, and included more than just the usual tortilla chips. I live nearby and am thrilled that we have a gourmet taco location opening up so close to me. I decided to stop in to try their famous pork belly tacos or now known as Coca Cola tacos and they did not disappoint! Tried their handmade quesabirrias, the flavor was different than others I have tried and were so good. The drinks are super good so I definitely have to stop by again for happy hour. read more

These are the kind of tacos that make want to never eat another taco again. They use organic and fresh ingredients which can be seen in everything they make. Some of the freshest guacamole I've ever had. The coffee is also amazing! Everyone there is extremely kind. Definitely becoming a regular. read more

Great new place. We tried the Pozole (a special), fish tacos, shrimp empanadas and guacamole. The atmosphere is warm and the owner/chef was attentive. I look forward to going back. I think this will be my new favorite place for tacos. read more
