This place is authentic. I was the only gringo here and I could feel people staring at me. The food was just OK. Typical Mexican street food. Tacos, burritos, enchiladas, sopes, etc. You order at the counter and they call your number. The "dining room" is to the left of the front counter. Prices are reasonable but the quality is just not there. I will not be back. I only went here because I was downtown, hungry, and the upscale Mexican restaurant I had planning on eating at closed early. I was up for an adventure, as usual. Located next to the RR tracks and sandwiched between a repair shop and a spooky bar whose door have no handles, Tacos De is the favorite for me and my co-workers when we want a BRC or Carne Asada burrito for under $5. Sure the parking lot is dirt and there's graffiti everywhere, but that just tells me the profits aren't ending up in some rich white man's bank, but rather into some poor Mexican lady's coffers. I don't recommend looking into any of the doors as you pass down the hallway from the rear entrance. I did once and I regret it. The Carne Asada burrito is large and the meat has a great flavor. One of the best literally Hole-in-the-wall places i've been to in Ventura County. These are some super authentic mexican tacos, so authentic, no one speaks a lick of english at all. Used to be 5 stars 2 years ago. I loved this place. But, this place has become disgusting. On 2 separate occasions the asada meat tasted like the smell of a wet dog and was full of so much fatty pieces. I gave it another chance because that's how much I loved their food. I went back 7/28/16 and bought 2 tacos and bought my boyfriend his #1 menu choice, asada burrito. Let me just say we will NEVER go back and I highly advise anyone who cares for their health to never eat here. Found a 2 inches hair with the root still attached right inside my taco, meat & tortilla were burnt and chewy. And my BF who ate his whole burrito, before I attempted to eat my tacos, had diarrhea a couple hours later. We're done, I'm calling a health inspector after this. read more

I need to concentrate... No Aztec inspired murals nor waiters to come to your beck-n-call. Just efficient service & food as if you cooked it at one of your own awesome BBQs when your hanging out with the family or friends. Tacos de asada are very good. Tacos de cabeza are even better--mmm. Tacos de carnitas trump the cabeza ones.. (darn, I'm getting hungry---I knew this was going to happen) The nachos are good too. I like mine crispy so I ask them NOT to nuke them 'cause they sometimes like putting them in the microwave to melt the oh so good cheese. I also have them just with beans n cheese---heaven! The burritos, ha, now we're talking. Are very filling. Asada burritos are great, specially if you just go with the flow and get all the trimming on them. The 1 in Ventura on Telegraph Road 'bout a block down from the Pacific View Mall just moved further down the road to 3845 Telegraph Rd., and has a name change to Tacos Guadalajara. The brainchild behind the TDM's started his business in a roach coach back in the day. He used to park it behind the McDonalds on Savier's road until one day he was shooshed away, but not after making a good chunk of hard earned cash. He later started his empire with his first Taco De Mexico on 7th street and then went aquiring others from what I understand. Presently, I believe he only owns the one on Oxnard Blvd. and has sold all the others. It's been years since I've seen him around, but was very cordial & welcoming--almost like an uncle type of a guy? In fact, rumor has it that if it was your birthday he would give you a burrito--how cool was that! Again, it's been years since I've seen this man. I hope he's well and I hope I've been accurate with his legacy... Ok, back on track... Expect to see all kinds of people at the TDM on 5th street (and the other too)--people that are just passing through, on their lunch break, folks in suits (not swimming suits either), military personnel, me and my family, or just the guy from the next door radio shop getting a quick bite to eat 'cause he forgot to pack his lunch... I see you my friend!!! I almost neglected to tell you about their authentic Mexican drinks... Skip the soda and have an horchata (drink made from rice) or want somthing comp to an iced tea, then try the 'Jamaica ( Hibiscus leafs), both are yummy. They used to carry tamarindo (tamarind), but I haven't seem them offer it in quite sometime. This local is a block accross the street from the Greyhound bus station and MetroLink train terminal. There are other business in the area, such as a bakery, clothing stores, pharmacy, check cashing place, and a grocery store that has mini-stores indoors. Inexpensive, good portions, and open late would be good enuf reasons to go. But it wouldn't be the best reasons. The Carne is the main reason to go, the quality of the meat is better then most taco stands or trucks. So give the place a visit and you will find that this restaurant is a gem in Downtown Oxnard. For myself, they make the best Al Pastor in the Oxnard area. And, a top 5 in comparison to all the AL Pastor I would normally enjoy in Los Angeles. I grew up near Dodger Stadium so I've been lucky to have a big city with diversity and authentic businesses to help me appreciate great food; I am so happy that yelp led me to this place. With that said I must warn you: THIS PLACE DOES NNOT HAVE THE NICE DECOR THAT MAKES YOU WANT TO EAT THERE, but the burritos, tacos, chimichangas, and nachos with meat are truly remarkably good. I use to come here since I was a little boy and could only eat about two tacos. If all they sold were carne asada burritos, I'd give this place a 5. It's that good. I mean, really. The seasoning...you will love it. But honestly, I've had the buche, cabeza, carnitas, and pastor and was unimpressed. I'd rather go across the street to La Gloria. Stick to the asada...one hit wonder, y'all. This is my favorite place to get authentic Tacos and Burritos amongst other Mexican food. They have great Horchatas. Burritos are $5.75 it's a steal! The place is in old downtown Oxnard so the building is older but you shouldn't let that discourage you from going in and ordering that burrito . Don't judge a book by its cover ! WHAT IS U PEOPLE THINKING? This place is wack!!! When it comes to burrito shops, I like to rate them by their karne asada. Everyplace will have your typical tacos, nachos, and burritos. The way a place prepares,cooks, and seasons their meat, this alone tells me alot about the joint. Service and the area can be crappy, but it's all about the meat. I'm assuming the high reviews come from peeps who havn't tried other burrito shops in the area. I'll admit, I havn't been here for years and I remember the burritos being OK in the past. But the reason why the burritos were good was because it was a late night meal directly after a night of bar hopping. The place is one of very few 24 hour spots, which made it worthy of its 2nd star, but did people forget, anything tastes good after having a few drinks. Definitely a hole in the wall. But worth the find. The food is absolutely delicious and the closest thing to authentic mexican food you will find. I eat here twice a month. The salsas are delicious and dont get me started on the chorizo! Yum! I do wish they had beer, which is why i always take mine to go... to enjoy a corona with it. The service-- I would give this 5 stars if the cashiers at the counter were a bit friendlier. The food always comes fast, and the cooks seem to work clean. Washing hands consitantly, utensils looks clean. The food is always extra hot so food safety is no concern for me here. Which is something i am always looking for when i can see the cooks making my food. The ambiance of the restaurant does throw you off tho. Its clean but SO outdated. The beauty about this place is that it has incredibly fast service. Unfortunately the hours might be incorrect. The Yelp page says they close at 3am but when I pulled up at midnight they were closed. I found that extremely weird due to the fact that I've been there before at 1:30am. I'm not sure what to say about that other than they might close early some days due to slow service? I'm guessing. I think I have found a Mexican restaurant in Ventura County that is about as authentic as it can get (understanding that true authenticity only comes from Mexico). I discovered this wonderful hole-in-the-wall by a friend's roommate who heard it from a neighbor. After being satisfied with an answer that wasn't Chipotle or Olas (LOVE Olas too, by the way), we were curious enough to check the place out. After checking the place out, we were satisfied! Their burritos were amazing! Their meat was tasty as well as their beans! Their rice was also appropriate for a Mexican burrito, unlike in some other places where they use Asian rice for their burritos! They do get sort of conservative with the salsa, but I like that personally, because I love tasting the meat, the beans, and the rice. The only downfall I have with this place (small one) is that it is in a sketchy part of Oxnard, but don't let that deter you from visit if you're not Latino. I've seen people of all races here, including my friend and his roommate (White and Asian). Aside from that, we've NEVER had any problems parking there, eating there, etc. which is why it was nothing major. In fact, I've learned that the most authentic Mexican joints only exists in hole-in-the-walls that play Corridos in the background and doesn't worry about making the place look trendy and hip like a restaurant in an upscale shopping center. In general, I have come to the conclusion that this place is WONDERFUL and will be dropping by as much as I can! read more

We were handed a soggy torta with what looked like a spread of minced meat that was supposed to be carnitas. Our pastor burrito was nothing more than a bunch of rice and beans with the soupy pastor caldo and no meat in site. So off we go a few miles down the road to the land of happiness. The lady at the front counter is always very sweet to us, warm smiles all around. The line moves pretty fast. Next thing we know, we've paid and are out the door and heading home to watch our shows and eat our tacos. Another night knocked out. I can't believe no one has reviewed this place yet! TDM is my saint and savior after a night of drinking (in Oxnard). It's my Oxnard version of OC pho. I would get pho, but none of the Oxnard pho joints are open this late and pho just doesn't seem right in Oxnard. You gotta have a burrito. TDM has the best burritos in town. Hands down. I ussually go for the al pastor or carne asada with red sauce. I've also had the tacos and nachos which are both very good but if you get the nachos, I suggest getting the crema agria on the side. Today I had 1/2 colorado, 1/2 chile verde, with the hot sauce, and it was great! I moved to GA about 10 yeas ago and TDM is one of the first stops when I hit the Nard and one of my last when I leave to come back home. I have always gotten there Carne Asada burrito! OMG they are the best! Went I take a trip to Oxnard I will bring TDM back so my GA friend can see what real Mexican food is like. El taco de Mexico is a classic in oxnard. It used to be one of the only places open late but now they have plenty of competition with food trucks in every corner. The food is good. Can't complain. Asada is delish. They have a bomb habanero salsa. Their Asada fries are to die for. Super unhealthy but good. The place is not always clean. The bathrooms are stinky and dirty. Out of all the TDM's, I like this one the best. All my old high school buds go to the one off of Saviers road, but this one was the original. They make the BEST carne asada burritos. They make it how you like it and it's always fresh. The seasoning on their meat is like no other. I have also had their nachos and tacos. I also had their flautas at one time when they had them. Anyway, best burritos for sure. If you come from SD and like Alberto's, come to TDM. You wont be disappointed.
