Omg I die. They have carne asada fries!! Being from CA, no restaurant out here knows wth it is and it makes me happy that this place does! I just left there for lunch and they have a pretty large serving of it. It comes with steak style fries, carne asada, sour cream, onions, cilantro, avocado and I believe a jalapeño? Or green pepper? I bit into something that was spicy--I usually hate super spicy stuff but it was totally worth it. Came out to around $9 something which isn't bad considering the portion size. After walking in with high hopes, I left with a stomach full of delicious California burrito. Best Mexican food I've found in NC. For those of you from San Diego you know that there are different California burrito "styles" (my favorite/gold standard is from Santana's, just so you know where I'm coming from). Right up there with my favorites is from JV's...and this one is close, but with a Sombrero's feel to it. The size, though...HUGE BURRITO! In my heyday I could throw down a couple Santana's in a sitting without a problem...this one pushed me to my limits and I had to quit. Great tasting carne aside and pico de gallo; lots of melted cheese, tons of refried beans and Mexican rice. The tortilla was on point, and the chunks of avocado were a welcomed surprise! The next time I'll see if I can't add some sour cream. For a "corner taco shop", this place is money. Absolutely worth your time if you're hungry and need some solid food. I'm reserving the fifth star for now, pending my return and hopeful repeat of deliciousness. I am so sad that I moved away from this location!!! You will not get better tacos on the east coast than this place!! I cannot express how much I miss these tacos! They are so good! Their tortillas are great & the cuts of meat are great too! They will have tamales to order on the weekends, but don't wait too long or they will be gone fast! Their burritos are ginormous and so delicious! I have never had a bad experience at this place! All their food is phenomenal, but my favorite are their tacos, sopes & tamales!!! Since moving here, my wife and I have been extremely disappointed with the Mexican options available to us. We're coming from San Antonio, where the Mexican food is plentiful, but isn't always good. Fortunately, because there are so many options you can usually find something worthwhile. Anyway, this place truly satisfies our cravings. We've been talking about taking a road trip to the nearest Chipotle, but this place is going to hold us over. Even when Chipotle does open, I'll probably frequent this place more. I tried this place for the first time one year ago on a visit to New Bern for Bike MS. It was so good that I've seriously been looking forward to coming back to New Bern all year for this year's Bike MS. We initially tried it because so many reviewers from San Diego had made comments about how they nail a legit California burrito. And guess what? They do! I've been in NC for over three years and have yet to encounter any Mexican food like this. But here it is, hiding humbly in New Bern. The burritos are seriously big enough to feed three people, and super cheap. My favorite part of all of it is the tortillas. They are so big and thin and fresh. Also, when we went in last time we ordered horchata and they gave us an extra cup for free. Short story is, I love this place, and it has become a necessary stop now on my Bike MS visit. Awesome restaurants, authentic and delicious and the prices are fair!! Everything I've tried here I haves enjoyed from tacos, tortas, sopes, menudo was all delicious. The menudo I know isn't like the one they serve but it's still awesome. I like the way they prepare the lengua here, it's crispy and tender, other places are soggy and gross. They also added a Mexican dessert side to the restaurant which I've heard was pretty good I've never tried it but if the quality is the same as the actually food then I definitely recommend it. If you are in New Bern and appreciate a good taco, go here! The food is authentic and its clear the people behind the counter take pride in their restaurant. I still remember when I first walked in with my parents and my mom asked the guy behind the counter if they had chips and salsa. "We don't serve that type of thing here," he responded. My Dad burst into laughter only to receive a brutal deadpan. No, they really don't serve that type of thing at El Taco Loco. Their tacos are amazing. Good traditional corn tortilla wraps with tasty marinated meats inside. My girl was apprehensive because of all the onions and cilantro, but the meat and tortillas are of such high quality that the flavors remain balanced. They have two homemade sauces, a tomatillo salsa and red tomatoey sauce. Neither are not garishly salty, overly sweet, or excessively spicy. They each provide a unique flavor. El Taco Loco also provides a few extras: sliced radishes, pickled peppers, and some chopped limes. They even have little ziploc bags handy in case you're doing takeout. They think of everything! The burritos here are massive. You either pay the regular price for a literal meat roll, or you pay an extra dollar for every topping you want under the sun (including avocado). Why ever go to Chipotle down the street? Anyone who does is Loco. I've lived in Chapel Hill most of my life. There aren't any taco places like this near there. There aren't even any taco places like this in the northeast. Fast, cheap, tasty. This is as close as you're going to get to San Diego on the East Coast. read more

This is the best Mexican food I've had outside of Mexico. The food is amazing and authentic, all of the flavors delightful. I took my Hispanic boyfriend here a few months ago and he was a huge fan, also agreeing that it was authentic as he's had from a Mexican restaurant in a while. If you want to try something new then I recommend the sopes. If you need a lot of food, the burritos are huge. The one thing to watch out for is that many of the employees are not very fluent in English, being more fluent is Spanish. As long as you know what you want for food though then it shouldn't be an issue. read more
