I don't mind an egg shell here or there (it happens) but every single bite had an eggshell in it. I mean, where to begin....? Well, let's start with the good, how 'bout it?! I've been driving through this little neighborhood gem for the past couple of years - it's quick, convenient, super friendly staff, and (usually) delicious and you can't beat the prices. Normally, I'd be inclined to give them 5 stars. Unfortunately, today I rolled through out of pure necessity (waited too long to eat something, was famished, needed something in muh belly, and quick!) and I can typically count on El Tacorrido - so, I ordered 3 tacos. All on flour tortillas: one pollo, one al pastor, and one bistec. The uzje..... Ugh. Maybe they recently changed management? Maybe they have a new cook? Who knows... but it was awful. Tasteless, poorly made, completely unseasoned, barely any onions or cilantro added, no pineapple on the al pastor, the bistec tasted like cardboard - no seasoning AT ALL - no salt, nothing. It looked and tasted like cheap ground beef. Yuck! In addition, I was hoping for the one, tiny container of salsa to perhaps save it all (but seriously?! only 1 for THREE tacos??? A bit chintzy if you ask me) - and I had specifically asked for MILD salsa....but nope. They gave me one tiny container of the hottest salsa they have. Grrrrrrrrrr...... it just couldn't be saved. Not the best but no the worst tacos you'll find. I do like that they have a drive thru which is ideal when you are feeling lazy. Chips and salsa/guac/queso are OK in my opinion. The chips aren't salted enough and I find it weird that they charge chips separately from the dip. My favorite tacos are the barbacoa and the chicken fajita. Ok "first everything i loved; the molcajeta salsa was hot and tasty! If you like heat definitely get the molcajete salsa. The equinox (iced horchata with a shot of espresso) was a tasty treat! If you rise and grind with a cafecito everyday, I recommend you add the extra shot of espresso for a bolder less sweet taste. I ordered chorizo & egg, bacon & egg, and barbacoa. The chorizo & egg flavor was a bit bland, which chorizo usually tends to have such a complex blend of spices. The ratio or egg to chorizo was also unbalanced. That salsa was probably what made the taco worth eating. The barbacoa was a bit "sebudo", I'm sorry but most latinos will understand what" that means. Basic taco fare. We got a bistek Gordita, carnitas torta, a couple tacos and chips and queso. It's weird that an order of queso doesn't come with chips. The queso is good but congeals pretty quickly and isn't really special, but the chips are good. We didn't really like was the torta- it didn't have much flavor and probably won't order it again. Bistek was also overcooked. We will try again when the riverside location opens after covid. read more

This place really has the best tacos in Austin! They are so fat and so freaking affordable! For just $2.50, you get a very full corn or flour tortilla. I usually get chicken with the spicy salsa. The meat is so incredibly flavorful and the salsa is nice and hot, but not so hot you can't taste it or it makes your nose run! I do not live anywhere near this place-far south near Southpark Meadows-but I will make the journey anytime because I have never eaten a more worthy taco. And the people who work there? I was going to go with "Three stars in a good way," but my drive-thru cashier was cheerful, my Yelpie friends love this place, and you should be reading my reviews with a grain of salt anyway. And I'm only dickish on certain days. This place is pretty cool. This South 1st El Tacorrido has two vegetarian options the north stores don't offer - I did the Taco de Verduras, a colorful mixture of sautéed zucchini, sweet potatoes, roasted corn, green chile salsa, and a "spicy sauce." Consider asking for a little less sauce, but only if you want to know what the vegetables actually taste like. Okay, it really wasn't that bad, there are a dozen things I'm curious to try here, and the coffee's pretty good. But Holy Traffic Jam, this place has got to be a zoo if it's backed up during rush hours. There are two separate drive-thru lanes, one entering from Oltorf and the other from South 1st, and you better hope the driver behind you isn't screwing around texting, because your car's butt is going to be sticking way out when you're pulling in. Everyone was trying to be considerate when I was there, slowly inching closer to the car ahead of them, and my parking sensors kept shrieking like mad violins in a Hitchcock film. But in hindsight, it just ain't no big thing. Be patient, be kind, and you will be rewarded with a cheerful bag of tacos for not a lot of money. THIS IS A FORMAL COMPLAINT FOR THE OWNER: Mainly because there is no email address on your website for me to email you directly. I am a frequent customer of the Oltorf location and I LOVE El Tacorrido, but I was there today through the drive-thru around 2pm (the drive thru that isn't on the S. First street side, but the other drive thru) and the girl at your drive thru was in a bad mood. She didn't verbally get rude with me but her actions spoke pretty loudly. 1. I ordered a taco with corn tortillas and got flour. By the time i was going to eat it, i was starving, but my order was wrong. 2. After she handed me my El Equinox, i was clearly trying to move things around because my other 2 cupholders were occupied....as i was trying to do that she first gave me my card while i was doing this and said "here" and literally seconds later as i'm still trying to do the same thing, set my El Equinox down in a cupholder, she says "here" again. I just thought that was her way of being a little demanding like "take this card, hurry up and take this card" that's what i really heard her say. but even if she really thought I didn't hear her, oh...there's more that made me realize she really was in a bad mood. 3. She didn't even ask me to sign a receipt as I ALWAYS have had to do...in which i ALWAYS tip $1. I never signed a receipt during today's purchase for using my credit card. 4. Normally i am asked at the window what type of salsa do i want. Well she didn't ask me.....nor did i receive any. It's a good thing i checked the bag first, obviously did that because she didn't ask me if i wanted any salsa. 5. she handed me the bag and then closed the little sliding door so fast I didn't even have a chance to ask her for salsa.....i looked in the bag to see if she happened to put it in there and saw nothing.....honestly i was willing to take whatever she would have put into the bad, but she didn't put anything. I gave my horn two little "toots" and when she opened the window I said "salsa?" All I can say is everything about her service, mainly her body language, was so bad I'm obviously here trying to let the owner know that maybe they need to have a little talk with this girl. No need to fire anyone but please let your employees know it is NOT COOL to bring their problems to work because it obviously shows in their actions, tone of voice and lack of service. In more than one way today my service was sub-par: not asked to sign receipt, not asked or given any salsa, and order being wrong. read more

A-three, and a-four, and a-five!!! I have finally achieved Tacorrido Nirvana, having at last had their meats selection for lunch . And it just pushed them right over the top in my Austin Book of Taco Goodness. For second lunch - because I'm a hobbit apparently - which is situated snugly two hours after first lunch and one hour before afternoon snack, which is shortly followed by pre-dinner, I swung by Tacorrido. Their drive thrus and unbeatable prices make them the perfect "must. eat. now." spot. I had one barbacoa on corn and one carnitas on corn. I also ordered a side of quac to smother them in. And, oh momma, let me tell you - I made all the right choices. The barbacoa - which is a slow cooked beef cheek (and don't let that scare you away from trying it) was tender, a tad gelatinous, but bursting with flavor. It's served on double corn tortialls, and per tradition, topped with cilantro and fresh diced white onion and a lime wedge. They're perfect as-is, but topping it with guacamole just gives it that nudge towards greatness. The carnitas again are so flavorful and tender. They really know how to slow cook their meats to keep them full of juice and robustly seasoned. Carnitas is served the same - on double corn tortillas topped with onion and cilantro. Now I can firmly say, that Tacorrido is unbeatable for breakfast or lunch in terms of quality, value and convenience. The ONLY thing I warn: I do not prefer their chorizo - it's a tad sweet for my taste. But a day that starts with a bacon, bean & cheese in a flour tortilla with salsa roja, then is punctuated later with the barbacoa on corn... that sounds like a perfect day to me. read more

I'll start with the positives...I love that there is a Mexican drive through that's not typical fast food. The ingredients tasted fresh and the dressing was good. However, I think it's ridiculous that after ordering a $13 salad and guac, I can't get complimentary hot sauce.....I mean...?! The salad comes with one small cup of whatever dressing you order, anything else costs extra. And if you spend $3 on some guac, don't be surprised that you have to also pay for chips to dip in it... The meat was good but when I ordered beef fajita I expected slices of skirt steak vs a small amount of ground. But that could just be how it's done there...It was still tasty tho limited. read more

I recently went by again during lunch hour, got 6 tacos total plus 2 equinox drinks. The equinox is good as usual, however, the tacos have sadly gone down in quality. Ordered 3 carnitas and 3 barbacoa tacos, some on flour some on corn. Two of the carnitas tacos had pieces of bones and large pieces of gristle, biting into a bone can damage your tooth, luckily I was able to spot it before biting it. I know carnitas will have some fat but not like these tacos. The barbacoa had no bones but also had large pieces of fat/gristle which is not appetizing at all. I've had barbacoa at other places and you don't get that. If the are trying to cut corners so they don't raise prices, sacrificing the quality of your meat is not the way to go. I won't be going back to this location, hopefully other locations server better quality. read more

El Tacorrida is a dressed up taqueria, complete with a drive through. I love that their al pastor has pineapple and pork; I didn't even try the salsa since the taco tasted great as is BUT I WANTED THREE AND THEY GAVE ME TWO! Lame since their tacos go for $2/pop. Good pricing for a restaurant, but exorbitant for a taqueria. I toyed with the idea of getting a gordita since it would have come with sour cream and queso fresco. My self musings talked Frankie into getting the carnitas gordita. Frank had a hard time eating them though; they were piled high with toppings and the tortilla was all wet. Fixable at home with silverware; not so much in your hotel room. I swapped him a taco for one of the gorditas. The carnitas also had a really great flavor--nice and smoky. I think this place makes a pretty quality product. I would just do a count before driving off, and then I wouldn't take it too far. These babies have a time limit. read more

Food good. Service bad (based on what other Yelpers have said, it seems like this is a trend). I really wanted to love El Tacorrido. The first time I came here, they forgot one of my tacos. With the place being a drive through and generally having a long line of cars, I didn't realize the al pastor taco that I had so been craving, was not included in my order. Oh and they charged me for it too. The other taco I got was chorizo egg and cheese, which was actually really good. The horchata was super yummy too. During the next visit, yet again our order was wrong. The girl working there even repeated it back to me multiple times, but somehow, they forgot the ham that we had ordered on two of the tacos. And yes, again we were charged for it. Fool me twice, shame on me. We should've checked the food before driving away, but we were giving them the benefit of the doubt. We got queso this time, which was a white queso. It was good, but the chips were a little too salty. One other thing, be prepared to wait in line for quite a while. The tacos take some time to make, and during both visits, we had to wait a bit before they even took our order. This is my favorite taco place in Austin! It's a drive through taco stand with no frills outside of the damn tasty food. It's super authentic and delicious at any time, but I have a soft spot for the breakfast tacos. :-) The carnitas Gordita is a staple...the delicious fried goodness of the shell is only topped by the savory, juicy pork inside. Mmmmm I also had a carnitas egg and cheese taco (not on the menu but they do whatever combination you ask for). And it was freaking awesome. This place has become my Thursday-night-after-kickball tradition, and the speedy drive thru and awesomely cheap prices make this place top-notch. Authentic Mexican food (dubbed by my Hispanic friend, "it's the real deal"), these guys and gals are working hard in this little shop, and food always comes out quickly. They have two drive thrus, and although it can be tricky to get in and out of this corner space, they have a row of parking in the back, and a tire-selling neighbor, in which you can park close and chow down (if you're into that sort of thing). I can't remember the name of the tacos that we usually get (Thursday nights are hard), but we have yet to get something that we did not love. I opt for the cheese quesedillas (because sometimes I eat like I'm 5...), and sometimes I will ask for fajita veggies and/or chicken. Their chips and queso is SO good (and messy), and their served-all-day breakfast tacos are delish. They also have Mexican-style dessert and coffee drinks. Best of all, their prices are SO great! I've tried probably half the menu at this point and haven't had anything be disappointing. Tacos, tortas, gorditas... carnitas, barbacoa, al pastor, pescado, vegetarian... breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner... I can't really find any faults in this place. This is a "shack"-type establishment with a drive-thru and walk-up ordering window only, so don't expect to dine in. The drive-thru line can get quite long on weekend mornings and spill out into the street (dangerous!). If visiting at this time, I suggest taking South 1st southbound and turning right at Oltorf to enter the drive-thru. I find the breakfast tacos to be bland, and they don't get any favors from the watery roja and verde salsas. Thankfully, it seems like the non-breakfast options are available all day. Despite the other unimpressive salsa options, the salsa that comes in the House Salsa & Chips has a great roasted flavor and chunky texture. The chips are thick, crunchy and salty (just the way I like 'em), though quite greasy. One of my favorite things to order is the El Equinox, horchata with a shot (or two) of espresso. read more

I've been to this location a few times now and each time I go I seem to have a different experience. Either I get free salsa with my tacos or I pay for each. I would like it if they gave larger amounts of salsa but I suppose that isn't an issue with service. When I do get a somewhat decent experience I can't help but wonder what's going to be different next time. This time in particular my coffee wasn't filled to the top and given they charge four dollars for a coffee with ice I'd expect it to at least be full. We got into a little scuff and after pulling forward without placing an order we were at the window! haha the girl (who was adorable btw) was totally chill about it all and we told her we were just gonna try the process again which put us over on the other side!! We continued to bicker unaware that anyone was hearing the entire conversation anyway - the "Italian kid from NY" and the girl that had helped us originally totally took care of us and were soooo friendly! I have tried and tried to like this place but it's just not very good. I ordered a chorizo taco today and a Carne guisada torta. The chorizo here is almost like ground beef with sauce. The tacos here are to die for but they need more help. There are two young girls running around inside like chickens with their heads cut off! This place is always busy so don't bother getting out of your car. They will leave you standing there at the window awkwardly glancing at you occasionally like you were a one night stand that won't leave them alone. Once they see you're upset at the wait they will give you a shaky finger to sign "I might be there soon"! This place has two locations that are both run so poorly but with food so good people keep coming back.
