One of the best spots for craft beer lovers in San Juan. It's at the end of Calle Loiza, so it's perfect to start or end a night out in Santurce. The vibe is dim and chill, with a long bar and plenty of seating. They have the menu options on the wall, and they feature about 30 taps, roughly half coming from various local breweries from around the island. My wife loved the coconut belgian quad, a super unique blend. I enjoyed a refreshing ipa from a nanobrewery. Very unique options. They serve food too, and it is really good. The sliders are top notch, and tasty fries as well. You can get truffle fries, which are more heavy on the rosemary flavor than the norm. We dined well and left happy. read more

My friend and I sat at the bar and ordered flights. I was most satisfied by the sangria and ended up ordering a glass of that after I finished my flight. The food was limited but I went with the beef sliders and fries. The food came out and it was well presented, but pretty bland. I am not a shy eater and usually clean my plate. I only ate 2 of 3 sliders and maybe half the fries, and that was because I was hungry, otherwise I would have had less. I was a little apprehensive to try a "tap" bar in San Juan just because I have been so spoiled in New York and Brooklyn and there are a plethora of locations that are amazing there for on tap craft beers. However I was so happy to have visited El Tap! From the clean and modern decor to the prompt and friendly service this is definitely a place to enjoy some local and imported beer as well as great food. I had the truffle fries and pork tacos. Both were delicious and great portions. I love to see the modern establishments in San Juan but it was also authentic to the city and fit right in. El Tap has a HUGE beer selection, it's got the most compared to any other place I've been to while traveling throughout Puerto Rico for work. For beer lovers, this is the place for you! I highly recommend everything I've tried here - Thick Cut Bacon (chimichurri sauce on bacon? genius!), Crab Bites, Chicharron de Pulpo (this was very good with sweet potato fries), Ceviche, Spicy Chicken Pinchos, El Lomo and the Fried Yuquitas. Let's just say I was beyond stuffed but I couldn't stop eating and continued to order the yuca fries. My only wish is I had enough stomach space for dessert but I guess that will have to wait until next time lol. Prices are very reasonable and the portions are a good size! FOOD ORGASM WITH THAT OCTOPUS DISH!! OMG it was so good! It is grilled to perfection with small ?fries or potatoes and a unique sauce. I live in NY, so I am used to great food and this right there was downright amazing. It was great that they had sangria on tap for non beer drinkers like me! My husband ordered truffle fries which he said were good. They come with parm cheese and some type of egg-y Mayo looking sauce but I think they could have been made vegan. I give this place 5 stars for the ambience and vibe. My favorite was the Fok oatmeal stout. Then came the spicy chicken pinchos. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I've never had a batter that light on anything really, now that I come to think of it. So light and crispy! The sauce was so spicy it made me cry in a good way. Stopped in on a Tuesday night, couldn't get a single beer because the bartenders ignored us. I noticed that there were many people sitting at the bar who looked like they were being neglected by the bartenders as well so we left. We had a good experience on Friday night with one of the bartenders, which is why I'm giving them three stars instead of just one. Honestly, I live right next to a bar with over 500 craft/microbrew beers (and 53 rotating beers on tap), so even though we had seen all of the non-local beers, it was a shame since we were looking forward to some Puerto Rican craft brews. I will say that the nearby restaurant Pirilo also has many beers by Ocean Lab and F.O.K., which are two of the Puerto Rican breweries. read more

Came here to try craft beer and ended up with the whole experience. They have a food menu similar to tapas. I tried their sliders and tacos. The sliders (mini burgers) were filling, they were cooked good and they also had a sauce on the side that tasted like sriracha (spicy but good!). My personal favorite were the tacos, a must try! They also have a big selection of beer, everything that is available is posted on the wall right behind where they pour them. So it's easy to read the details from your seat. As official beer snobs, this place ranks #1 in San Juan for us. The selection of beers, mostly local/regional, are second to none. The bartender we had (Ian) was very knowledgeable in not only the beers we asked about but also the brewers and why they did what they did for the beers we inquired about. Who ever heard of a stout that looks like an amber? Well Ian knew the story behind this and it was interesting to learn about and imbibe while he explained the details. Impressive bartender. The food was also top notch. We had the meat and cheese plate and for $14 it was one of the best cheese/meat plates we've ever had. The selection was varied and tasty and lots of munch on. We also had the chicken skewers with a spicy sauce over spinach leaves and wow, that was really good. Really tasty, nice and spicy and worth every bit of the $8, which, for what you get we thought was a good value. So, now we have to change our plans for our last night out and head back to El Tap. This place is fantastic. They had at least 18 beers on tap that were local to Puerto Rico, absolutely fantastic. Sadly, most of the local dark beers were sold out when I got there and those are my favorite. But I enjoyed the beers that I tried, especially a coconut blonde beer. I did spill one of my beers just simply because I didn't put it in the right circle for my tasting flights, and I would give them an extra star if they had offered me a refill on that beer, but they did not.
