This place definitely hit the spot! The food is so flavorful and taste homemade just like my grandma made it. The beans and salsa were so good! The beef in the chili Colorado was so soft. Usually when you order enchiladas at a restaurant you get boiled chicken, not here you get grilled shredded chicken with so much flavor. This is our new favorite spot, and we will be back!! Beyond!!!! Some of the best Mexican food I've ever had. The tortillas, the beans, the sauces, the flavor!! Holy cow delicious. The chili verde is insane-And the guacamole is fresh as can be, so good. Great hidden gem on the main street through Guadalupe. The restaurant is run by a husband and wife team. Wife does an amazing job in the front of the house and the husband is the chef who makes EVERYTHING from scratch after you order, including the tortillas. My wife ordered soft corn tortilla pork taco and chile relleno and I had the hard shell chicken taco, chicken enchilada and the chile relleno. With two drinks the total before tip was $36. Expect a cash-only, laid back "mom and pop" restaurant with festive oilcloth laden tabels and an old jukebox that belts latino rhythms. No soda fountain here, cokes are in cans. From where I sat, I had a clear view into a tidy kitchen where I could see food being chopped, diced, mixed, kneaded, and fried right before my eyes. 8) My boyfriend and I went for and early dinner after hiking Point Sal. We had a friendly waiter who was polite and attentive. We were brought warm salty chips, a cup of fresh, chunky pico de gallo, and a dish of amazing warmed green salsa (tomatillo?) that had a dollop of refried beans and melted cheese on top. All complimentary! My boyfriend ordered a mammouth wet carne asada burrito and I ordered two tacos: one al pastor and one chile verde. The chile verde was a little bit spicier. The tacos were served on homemade tortillas--thick, warm, chewy bliss. Tacos were topped with lettuce, onions and cilantro. The seasoning/marinade in the meat spoke for itself! Wonderful experience. HIGHLY recommended. Would give El Tapatio an extra credit star if I could, just because it was that good. read more

Since the man cooking knew I was waiting for my food he whipped it together in about 5-10 minutes. I got the enchilada meal and definitely recommend. We have been recommended to try this place by quiet a few people and now I see why. It's a little hole in the wall serving authentic Mexican food. We were greeted with a smile, they bring you chips, salsa, pick de Gallo and a cheesy bean dip. We ordered the camerones a la diabla and a wet burrito both were delicious. They started us off with fresh home made chips, pico de gallo and some yummy salsa. I got the Chile Relleno with rice and beans, a side order of soft tacos de Carnitas.. Just like mama use to make. My son ordered the Shrimp cocktail, not sweet not too limey, pretty good it was. Hubby ordered a sope with Carnitas and 3 Tacos Dorados. The food was amazing! Over the years, I've heard people talk about how good this food is and that they gladly drive 1.5 hours south to eat there. Having driven 1.5 hours south to eat there, I agreee!! Living in a Mexican town, I eat a lot of homemade Mexican food. This is the best Mexican food I've had. The depth of flavor in each dish was dIfferent and well spiced. I ordered the combo plate with their renowned chili relleno, enchilada, and chili verde taco. The chili relleno has a red sauce! The enchilada was a green sauce, and the chili verde taco was on a homemade tortilla. Each sauce was uniquely different. The best part of the meal was the verde salsa for the homemade chips. It was like a mixture of pesto and salsa verde. I ate two servings and they were kind enough to send one home with me! The owner and cook came out to talK with me. His mom, the lady who started the restaurant and made their chili rellenos famous, was there working. This is truly a family owned business. Al Pastor (pork), my favorite was succelent, not dry, not greasy, with not much if any fat, flavorable, just right. Had 3 soft tacos, loaded up. Refried beans, moist, not dry or bland. Three of us lunched here on a weekday. The server was attentive and friendly. Her husband is the cook. She said he makes everything fresh. My husband got the Mar y Tierra (Surf and Turf). It had shrimp and deliciously marinated and juicy steak meat. I enjoyed a sope (recommended by the server) and a chile relleno. Both were delicious. When you sit, chips are served with a yummy bean dip, a pico de gallo salsa and a green salsa. We are not doing any indoor dining, so sat at one of three outdoor tables. It's on Main St. where large trucks go by, so it can get noisy. A quiet garden dining area would be nice, but sitting on the front sidewalk you do get the 'feel' of the town! read more

My dad and I have switched from Nardo's to El Tapatío. The Diaz Family has been running this place for over 40 years. The kitchen is open, so you can see exactly how the food is made...just like at home, but in an industrial kitchen. Everything is made on the premises, including all the sauces. For soft tacos, the tortillas are pressed from the masa to order!! Sometimes they forget that I want a crispy taco, but that's like 2% of the time. I've tried several different menu items. I love it all!! The son, Egebe, is super nice! He chats with us whenever he gets a chance. We go later in the lunch service to avoid a long wait, because El Tapatío, even though it has only about 25 seats, is inundated with to-go orders and bulk orders for the field workers.
