Please note, you cannot turn south out of the driveway onto Carpenter Road. Ok now onto the important part. This is a former Pizza Hut. It still looks a little like a Pizza Hut, just with typical decorations of a Mexican restaurant. They have a full bar but I didn't try any of the drinks. I ordered a carry out of chicken fajitas. Came with a little guacamole, sour cream, tomatoes and lettuce. It was pretty average. Nothing bad but nothing spectacular. I went there because they had a coupon in one of my local flyers.

I used to live in Ypsilanti when I was a student at Eastern Michigan, and then got an apartment on this side of town for my first two jobs out of school. I know the area well, and remember it "way back when" when stuff was different. This used to be a pizza hut if I remember correctly, and obviously it's not there anymore. I see it's become a Mexican restaurant! I needed something quick and didn't want fast food. So, I pulled in here on a Sunday morning on my way home from a weekend away and decided to check this place out. Walking in, I remember what it was like before, and some of the place's been updated. Some of it hasn't. Not a bad deal, but I swear the booths are in very rough shape. Like still Pizza Hut booths. The one I sat in was half destroyed and had no cushion or support left at all. The seating here could use a serious update, no joke. Anyway, there was hardly anyone here, so I was able to get my food almost right away. I scoured the menu and decided to go with their nachos. I guess they come with both beef and shredded chicken. I've never had both, so that was interesting. When it came out it was actually quite good. The chips and salsa were good, but the salsa seemed a bit bland to me. My server was cool and made sure I was good throughout my meal. Overall a decent experience overall. The place just needs a refresh on the inside with the seats, but the foods a okay.

Being so close to where, I live finally got to try this place that took over Pizza Hut. Service was very good, the atmosphere has that old Mexican restaurant vibe from the 80's and 90's. They bring you complimentary chips and salsa, the chips tasted store bought but were warm, pretty average. The salsa was the typical gringo salsa added some hot habanero sauce that was at the table a definite improvement. The street style tacos combo came with rice and refried beans and two salsa's one verde and a hotter red salsa, these two salsas were much better and more authentic than the salsa served with the chips. I tried the chorizo, pastor, and asada tacos. They were all good, but I have had better asada and pastor in Ypsilanti (La Torre). The salsas help these tacos, I do like the softness of their corn tortillas the combo was three tacos rice and beans for $15 a pretty good value when you consider everything you get. May want to order these tacos and wait to eat the chips with these salsas.

First time here. We had an appointment at UofM and decided to stop. Really didn't have high expectations. Food came and I was very very happy. It's delicious. Queso dip is delicious and the xtra hot hot sauce is hot but with amazing flavor. I ordered the Molcajete and the pineapple fajitas. Definitely will be back.

El Tapatio is a great new option for a local Mexican restaurant with a great dine in experience. This part of town doesn't have a ton of non-chain restaurant options so it was great to see a new option enter the food. There's tons of indoor seating and they have an excellent menu, but the icing on the cake is the speed of service. The food is pretty standard fare and I'd give it 4 stars, but I'd give the speed of service 6 stars if I could. I kid you not, it was less than 10 minutes between when we ordered and received our food. It beats out some popular fast food restaurants! I'd absolutely recommend El Tapatio --it's a fantastic dining experience and definitely worth a try!

El Tapatio Tacqueria is one of my first stops while staying in Ypsilanti . The food has never disappointed me or my dining guests. The service is fast and friendly and pricing is very reasonable.

Been wanting to check this place out since it opened. Pretty typical Mexican restaurant. The layout inside is kind of weird. Our server was great- wish I had gotten her name. The food was pretty good. Loved the salsa but the chips could have been salted a bit more. The cheese sauce on my chimichangas was delicious. I appreciated that the beef in them was shredded, not ground. The ground beef on my boyfriend's tostada and taco was pretty greasy. I liked the rice a lot. The margarita I ordered was pretty weak. That would be my only complaint. Will come back and try it again.

Thankfully my wife speaks Spanish because her English is definitely limited. There were only two woman working when I ate there. Definite mom and pop vibe. The other people looked Mexican as did the customers who came after me definitely a good sign for authentic food. The drink portion sizes were pretty generous for a small size. The food took some time coming out, my wife enjoyed all three of her tacos. My shrimp taco was good and the corn tortilla was good not overly dry. Two salsas come to the table both were very good. The Gordita was solid liked the lettuce and cheese along with the meat. The thicker corn tortilla goes a longer to fill you up than a taco. Overall a good place, did not blow me away , but solid.

When I first walked in, there were two guys standing at the counter for quite a while. I couldn't figure out what they were doing until I saw the employee counting out cash. I also wasn't sure if I should sit to order my food or order at the counter. Eventually the employee handed me a menu so I sat at a table. There were other tables with native people at them so I figured the food must be good. I ordered a combo meal from the menu written in Spanish. It had two tacos, a tamale, and rice and beans. A short time later I was told they didn't have tamales. I was bummed about that so I ordered three tacos with a side of rice and beans. I was surprised at how long the food took to come out. And the portion of rice and beans was tiny, especially for $4. Of the tacos, the beef was a little tough, but the chicken and pork were good. The rice and beans were both tasty. Just not enough. Overall for over $14, I didn't think the food or experience was worth it. Maybe the tamales are the star of the show.

Immediately upon walking in we were greeted SO kindly and genuinely. The restaurant is beautiful- so nicely decorated and so clean. They have an expansive menu with so many options for all types of diets. I'm a vegetarian and they have vegetarian options for nearly all dishes that they offer! To start we were given chips and salsa which were fantastic. The salsa had a little bit of spice to it too which I loved. I got horchata and my husband got passion fruit Agua Fresca and WOW 10/10 without hesitation! Best horchata I've ever had. My husband does not like horchata and couldn't stop drinking mine! We both also loved the passion fruit Agua Fresca, another 10/10. They were so kind and brought us a sample of the cucumber and lime Agua Fresca as well which I'll definitely be getting with my next meal from here because it was SO refreshing and tasty. I got a vegetarian quesadilla and there's not a single thing I would change about it. It was hot and filling and so tasty! It had so much flavor! The guacamole and salsa it was served with were fantastic, too. My husband absolutely loved his steak burrito, too! The service: so slow, not attentive (salsa and waters at zero - no offer to replenish). Friendly, but just not good at basic waiting. The food: very, very Americanized. When I got the huevos con chorizo, it was SOOOO dry and over-cooked. All the other stuff is just boring. The hot salsa burns your mouth, the non-hot is like tomato sauce. An in-between would be lovely. The parking and location: great. The ambiance: music is at the right level not to blast you (blends into the background - yay), and the smell as you enter is bleach + food smell... so at least they clean thoroughly (cool.) The drinks: eh. First, when I asked for a skinny-spicy margarita, the waitress told me I could have one or the other. I said, how about you just make a skinny and put jalapeño in there. Yes. But the skinny was still way too sweet and not particularly tasty. I also asked for salt, and it came with none (it's a top priority - boo.) Then I got the $4 happy hour lime marg... it didn't seem like there was any tequila, and it was SO sweet and almost tasted like the kool-aid when I was a kid. Ick. Finally... told us they don't offer bottles of wine - even though it's right there in black-and-white on the menu. When we did get the bottle, it was room temp (white wine - not even chilled a little.) Massive drink bummer. Overall I just wouldn't need to return here if it weren't for the location.
