Stopped by for burritos and tacos, and I have to say this place is outstanding. The food is full of flavor, perfectly seasoned, and made with care. Every bite reminded me why real Mexican food is about heart, not just recipes. The service was amazing. Everyone greeted me with genuine warmth, and Chef Martin went above and beyond by bringing out a bowl of Menudo just to make me feel welcome. That kind of kindness is rare. El Taquito isn't just a restaurant, it's a place that makes you feel at home. Great food, great people, and a chef who truly cares about his guests. I'll definitely be back, and I'll be telling everyone about this spot.

I had to come in for menudo but saw sopes being made. I just had to try them and ordered a asada and carnitas on, oh and my menudo. Well I got home and found out I over did it! The sopes were HUGE! Well now I have food for 2 days, service is always excellent and the restaurant was slow when I got there! Yum, will be back again soon.

Best comfort food for hang over or for kicking with frds with healthy food. Owner are very nice. I would said it is likely family style, not like the commercial strong oily taste or salty flavor and I dun feel any msg on their soup.

Burrito was good and service was really good the chilaquiles mild sauce (green) were good and decent portions ! the burrito wasn't greasy ! it was good and full as well

This is the place to go when Menudo is what you're craving, among the vast array of freshly prepared mexican dishes. A hole in wall place west of the city of El Monte. this place offers great tasting food, which most of it is prepared when ordered. As soon as you come inside the restaurant, the kitchen is right in front of you with staff cooking up food and greeting you at the same time. They offer alcoholic beverages as well like beers and micheladas. As well as soft drinks and aguas frescas.

Menu with new prices. I thought my dinner was supposed to be around $15, my bill was 24.. confused ..how much was that big drink??

Foodie friends recommended this place Very friendly helpful service from lady at counter. Friendly owner too. It's called El Taquito so I should have ordered the taquito platos combination. But I got the chile relleno instead. I always get chile relleno in every new Mex place I visit...no matter what...the plate was a feast for the eyes, lots of delicious sauce...scary how many sliced jalapeños but no seeds so not spicy....looking under the chile relleno was not whole or breaded, it looked roasted and not clear if it was stuffed...looked to me like the pepper was sliced or shredded but definitely the stem was in evidence. A puzzling dish as the taste of the sauce was good but couldn't tell if the cheese was inside the nearly absent relleno or simply melted on top along with the blanket of sauce. 3/5. The rice was flavorful, fluffy 4/5..I liked the frijoles 4/5 but it was a small portion like the size of my palm. I got three corn tortillas, hot to touch, and chewy which I liked. 5/5. The combination also came with salad with radishes and sliced tomato, cut lettuce. I could tell if there was a dressing or not. 3/5 Next time -- order what my fellow Yelpies recommended...the wet burritos, the menudo, or the tacos....or their namesake.. taquitos. But pass on the chile relleno. Oh - the Jamaica was good, and the cup was gigantic!! Nice balance of sweet and tart. I never got a check so I just walked up to counter. I rang up at about $24 before tip...the menu said the chile relleno was about $15, so just how much was that big drink? Note to self, get a cheque next time, so I wont pay then walk away confused about the prices.

Best wet burrito in town! Go for the chile enchilada red or the green verde sauce or half and half! Both excellent! This long standing hole in the wall provides regulars and locals some of the best Mexican food at the best prices with generous portions! Always super busy with folks taking out burritos, requires, enchiladas and even breakfast and menudo. Family second generation ran with super friendly service! They make everything from scratch and their flour tortillas are so delicious! They also serve a variety of Mexican beers at Great prices. Counter service with small dining room. I told my dad we can anywhere he wants for Father's day. He picked here because he was craving menudo. He is a regular. They had seating. They came and served us fast. I got the mojarra frita plate. It didn't disappoint. The fish was a great size. Perfectly seasoned. The fries aren't frozen. They're perfectly cooked and seasoned. It was so much food. I couldn't finish it. The rice had great flavor too. My dad and his girl were happy with the menudo. It was a good portion. They give tostadas with 2 homemade chiles. My wife got the popcorn shrimp plate and couldn't finish either. Excellent service, prices, and food. We will definitely be back.

They were super rude and not accommodating for elders. Would never come here again. There is no access for a wheelchair to go into the restrooms or even into the restaurant it's self. If you want to take your grandparents out for lunch I'd find a different restaurant. That is more kind and accommodating because this place wasn't it. read more

First time here and I don't know how I never heard of this place before. Service and food are both great! The owner is super nice and generous with the portions. I had a carnitas burrito with beans and cheese, and my husband had a breakfast burrito with chorizo, egg, potatoes, and beans. Their salsas are good which is also important. No more having to drive all the way to ELA for a decent meal. We'll definitely be back! :) read more

The food is so delicious and staff and service are even better. You definitely get the homey feeling eating here and we learned this restaurant has been owned by the same family since 1984. I got the chicken enchiladas with green sauce and my partner ordered the carne asada plate. Amazing and delicious. My god!!! Close this place down. I have never given this bad of a review, but, this place is deserving. The burrito had tiny bits of meat and totally greasy. The soup was full of chunks of meat fat. There was a slice of lemon and it looked like someone dragged it across the floor. $30 for total crap that I just threw in the trash. No way am I going to risk getting food poisoning. It use to be that these kind of places were always iffy, but then, you were only throwing away a few dollars. Now it's totally not worth the cost of having to trash the food. Which I haven't done in a really long time. For that money I could have gone yo Stonefire grill, ordered a lunch rib plate and a glass of wine. read more

El Taquito is one of my fave Mexican restaurants. With it being very close to my work I come here 2 to 3 times a week! They do have a small menu but their dishes taste like home cooked meals. I also must say the plates are very inexpensive! I usually get the carne Asada which is under ten bucks. The owner, Martin treats all his customers as if they are family. This place sells pretty good Mexican food. I ordered the chilaquiles plate and an horchata. The chilaquiles were good and filling. The horchata was also good. I did wish they would serve it in a bigger cup or gave one free refill. Waitress also gave me chips and salsa. My bill came out to $13.50; they charge $1 to use a debit/credit card. read more

I should start coming here more often and so should you. Ordered 4 tacos: asada, pollo, carnitas, al pastor. All delicious, lean, and juicy. Al pastor was my favorite just beating out the asada. Both sauces they offer are flavorful and not overpowering in taste or heat. Their Jamaica is made in-house and has an unusual blend of flavors and I can't quite tell what they are. It's a little sweet for my but very good. I didn't catch the cools name but he's super friendly and I think might be be part of the ownership. read more

I've been coming to this place since I was a young pup. I remember coming with my grandfather. Martin's food is always on point. It's very consistent and full of flavor. I have never ate anything here that was not bomb. Today we had for dinner MOJJADA FRITA and CHILEQUILES with a coke and half Jamaica and half pina(try it, it's the bomb)!!! Me n my old lady drive from El Sereno to Monte just to eat Martin's food. Well worth it!!!!! read more

I ordered a chili relleno burrito and it was ok. I asked for red sauce which was a mild tomato sauce. But wet burritos automatically come with green sauce which may be a little better. The table salsas are excellent. The green is smokey and the red is sweet and spicy; they're yummy. read more

Great restaurant. Small in size but big in delicious food and friendliness. If you like Mexican food this is the place to try. Very reasonably priced. Hours of operation are incorrect on Yelp. I was hoping that this was a new hidden gem, but the reviews are deceiving... didn't dine in, so this is just based on a take out order. Ordered a taquito plate with no rice and beans and a carne asada quesadilla. The total came out to about $16. The lady charged me the same price of a taquito plate with rice and beans, which was about $8 after tax. It came with 5 soggy taquitos with barely any cheese at the top, and some old looking lettuce. The carne asada quesadilla wasn't great either. Seems like they are very stingy with the cheese at this place. read more

I love this little hole in the wall. Got the menudo which I think is my favorite menudo that I've tried so far. In my opinion it is better than los chilitos added they give more meat and less chickpeas. My husband also likes the burritos better here. Will come again! read more

EL Taquito absolutely blew me away. From the moment me and my husband walked in, the service was welcoming and the food was beyond amazing. Every bite tasted fresh, authentic, and made with care. Solid 4.5 stars You know how you always see so many taco trucks or stands on a main street? Do you ever stop by all of them and check them out? No need, I am the one who eats. My goal is to try all the taco stands in Los Angeles. Located in front of an El Monte Numero Uno market and CVS, this is one of my new finds and definitely one that I would eat at every week. Their style is like a blend of Tj and traditional taco stands. This is their setup: charcoal grill only for asada, pastor spit, stewing pot, vast condiments stand (incl. guacamole), and auga frescas. Asada is grilled nicely and retains so much flavors despite I didn't get a freshly grilled batch. If it retains grilled flavors and stays juicy after sitting in the steam bath containers, it must be seasoned well and the right cut of beef was chosen. Pastor is nicely seasoned and not that greasy. They sometimes will give you pineapples but it is still good without it. I wished it was sweeter and a bit more meat juicy but I can't fault their pastor because it's beautifully cut and roasted. Goes really well with grilled onions. Cabeza is tender and already seasoned; good amount of meat and fat (albeit more fat, makes it juicier) makes it perfect for two tortillas. Tripas is good; it may not have the best flavors but it is nicely stewed, grilled right, and tastes clean. They use store-bought tortillas but don't fret, all the flavors are there. They use the stewing meat pot's (cabeza, buche, tripas) oil to season their tortillas for grilling. Their dark red salsa is seriously perfect :D nicely roasted chiles smoke flavor combined with a thick savory consistency makes it perfect for any meats. Not too spicy to be unenjoyable but enough to make you want more. The workers told me it's a blend of arbol chiles. This is one of the best salsa I've had at taco stands. Guacamole salsa has a decent amount of avocado with the right acidity, saltiness, and creamy texture. Again, goes well on any meat. The fact that they let you scoop this yourself makes the $2 a bargain. Salsa verde is good; high acidity (I like) and a good tomatillo flavor makes this a good choice for those who enjoy a mild salsa (it's on the upper end of mild). The orange salsa (taquera) is spicy! Good smoky flavors and only a few drops are needed for a nice burning kick. I need to come back and try rest of their meats (I always get their asada and pastor every time) because I keep getting what tastes good even though I should try the rest :) Their quesadillas and alambre portions are HUGE especially if you order multiples. Give this place a try and tell me if I'm wrong. I eat tacos every week and typically drive to South LA for my likings, but this place is winning my emotions. This is the upper echelon of $2 tacos in SGV.

Came across Mike L's review for Tacos Xaam and decided to check it out myself. Seeing the open…read morecondiments table and the unlimited sauces were pretty much what drew me in. Not sure if there are set hours that they are set up, but we stopped by on a Thursday night last week to grab some tacos for dinner. They're located on Garvey Avenue (near the back of the parking lot), in front of the Numero Uno Market - there's also a small churro stand adjacent to Tacos Xaam as well as a hot dog stand in the plaza across the street. So when we walked up to the stand, we saw one of the workers managing the meat. They have pastor roasting on a spit while some meats are inside of a pot and other meats that have already been premade. We originally only wanted asada tacos, but the worker convinced me to try the pastor. And I ended up adding a cabeza and tripa as well. I'm not a taco connoisseur, but I have to say that I really enjoyed the tacos from this stand. For one thing, they give a ton of meat! Tacos are a little pricier than the place that we usually visit ($2 a piece), but I think the quality is there - and the quantity is definitely there! Out of all the ones that I tried, I actually enjoyed the tripas taco the most. This was on the crispy side and retained its crunch as I bit into the taco. The tortillas are on the oily side with the combination of the oil and the meat, but everything tasted really good together. And of course, you have to try the asada if you're getting a taco. We ordered five or six of these - my sister agreed that it was packed with meat and really tasty. The steak was cooked well and wasn't chewy or dry. I also ordered cabeza on a whim and thought it was pretty good, but probably not my favorite. This reminded me of the beef stew meat that my mom makes at home. It had good flavor and was actually really filling, but I'd prefer asada over the cabeza. The worker asked why I didn't want to try the pastor, so of course I gave in and ordered one. I really liked the fact that this came with some grilled pineapples - reminded me of the Brazilian steakhouses! This was a little on the salty side, but with the addition of the sauces and condiments - I'd say that the taste was really good. If you order your tacos to eat there, they serve it on a plate, making it easy to load up your tacos with the condiments. If you plan to eat them at home, they offer bags for the condiments as well as sauce containers to scoop out the sauces. There was a container for lemons, onions, cilantro (love that this was by itself and finely chopped), and a spicy jalapeno pepper/onion mix that looked way more innocent than it tasted. Unfortuately there weren't any limes that night - as for the sauces, there's the guacamole, salsa verde, and two kinds of red sauces that looked super intimidating. We enjoyed the salsa verde the most - not spicy and had a nice zest to it. The people operating this booth were friendly - everything was super fast and we got our tacos within minutes. tl;dr - Tacos Xaam is definitely a taco stand you want to consider for those late night cravings! It's a little further out there than the regular SGV places, but it's worth it. They also have quesadillas, burritos, tortas, etc. I will return to get more tacos!
