I decided to order takeout on a Saturday afternoon around 2pm and this place was extremely packed. The was orders was being yelled out, the way plates were coming out the kitchen and people still coming in showed there's a reason everyone is here. We have been to the Pompano location a few times and honestly that one was closer to where we were but we were driving our truck and quite frankly that parking lot is horribly designed so we save it for during the week when they aren't as busy. I don't how how the servers do it as the spacing is not comfortable. My husband originally ordered a chicken breast sandwich with sweet potato planks. A few minutes unto waiting and he was told there is no more chicken - at all, other than wings. So he opted for the wings platter. They were a nice size and he enjoyed it. He got the sauce on the side, along with ranch on the side. The platter came with a nice amount of carrots and celery too. The ranch & buffalo sauces were definitely not enough for 12 wings. He really couldn't ask for more because the next time we saw a sever was when a different server was handing us a check (that was wrong) My daughter got a smash burger with just cheese. She liked it. She got it with fries and liked it too. I had the power omelet. I asked for no tomato and no onion and the egg white well done. The egg whites were not well done, but cooked enough. After eating in there other location in Pompano we decided to try the Hollywood location. We probably won't be back. We felt like a sardines in the can. It's very small inside. I felt like the tables next to us were sitting with us. The service lacks a bit, the servers were wonderful, but not very attentive to there tables. The food! RESTAURANT: Located at the end of a small store front, from the outside, it just looked like a typical diner. On a rainy Saturday after 12 pm, the place was packed and we were told that the wait will be about 30 mins. Lucky for us, some people did not answer when called and we happily volunteered to sit on the counter/bar. This place was a lot smaller than I anticipated. There must have been no more than 10 tables inside and a couple outside. It's cramp in there. There was a console for condiments, napkins etc, wall for the drinks, a restroom and the kitchen behind the cluttered counter where all the magic happens. The general theme appears to center around a modern farm house wit the dark faux wood ceiling tiles, antique accent pieces like the oil lamps and wooden telephone. Love the unique light fixtures especially the one over the bar that looks like metal tubs. Their plates are massive and unique and the coffee mugs are really cool. The vibe is high energy; love the banter between the staff. The restroom is clean. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Staff had been really friendly from the jump. The hostess was able to get us the counter/bar seating in about 10 minutes. Our server was also nice and made sure to double check that there were enough ingredients left for our order instead instead of disappointing us. The chefs (whom looked like both brothers and maybe owners?) reassured us that there's enough grits and brisket left for our nachos. Win! Crew in the back of the house were seen working hard clearing dirty dishes and restocking new ones. Food did not take long to arrive. FOOD: Everything in the menu sounds delicious. I appreciate the simple menu as well, which means they focus on making their signature dishes. So we ordered the chicken and waffles, brisket nachos, banana cream pancake and a small bowl of grits because they did not have enough for a plate of shrimp and grits. The grits was so buttery! The fried chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Love the strawberry butter on the waffles too! But that brisket nachos was fire!! They used pita bread, deep fried, then drench them in creamy cheese and cover it with pieces of brisket and pico de gallo, topped with strings of pickled onions which balances the saltiness of the cheese. Sooooooo good. Excellent for sharing. The banana pancake looked unassuming but under that mountain of whipped cream is a banana cream that is so smooth, with just the right sweetness. My husband LOVED his breakfast, especially the grits. He said that the grits were perfect and made the way they should be. He didn't have to add butter or salt to it. The grits came out steaming hot and stayed that way for a good while. I loved my biscuit sandwich but wish the bacon would have been crispier. I love crispy bacon but didn't think to ask that it be made crispy. We asked one of the servers if it's always crowded on the weekends or if it was because of Father's Day. She said that it was because of Fathers Day but it does get busy between 8 am - 3 pm. The other Hen & the Hog locations close at 3 pm. This location is open until 8 pm and serves breakfast ALL day so if you are craving breakfast food late in the day, stop by. Was looking for breakfast and this spot popped up. Located in an unassuming plaza in Hollywood, this is not a huge establishment. Inside is seriously cozy with a very country feel, and there is some outside seating as well. There is also a breakfast bar type seating area that faces the kitchen, giving the whole place a very warm, family like feel. We opted to sit outside and enjoy the weather. Our server Lola was fantastic! She made great recommendations for breakfast and kept the coffee flowing.
