New to this part of town , was going to the bar next door and saw this place. Walked In to see how it was a this lady looked at me weird because I picked up the menu to see what they had. She asked me what I wanted and I told her that I was just browsing. She rolled her eyes at me and walked away. I left afterwards. Came back only because the bar was closed and I was still hungry. Walked in again and the same lady again asked me what I wanted without even looking at the menu. I again told her I needed to see the menu and got mad at me again and rolled her eyes. I'm Peruvian and I take great pride in trying out new places where I can get homemade food. We do not treat people like that. They don't even smile here like they don't want to be here. Anyways I ordered My Favorite place - " Papa a la Huancaina " it was good but definitely would not come back due to the lack of empathy and service. People need to be welcoming and smile. I went on Sunday, I placed an order and when I go there to pick up my order, it wasn't ready, in fact they didn't even started to prepare it. I ordered a "Lurin Breakfast", my bread was burnt, the tamal look and tasted like it was imported from Peru a month ago, dried and over microwaved, fried sweet potatoes under cooked and the fried pork dried and hard. I've been coming here for over 10 years and never had a complaint aside from sometimes, depending on the server, they will slip in a surcharge on your bill in an attempt to get you to double tip. BEWARE: Online prices have nothing to do with their real prices. On top of that, they charge 4% for credit card, regardless of the amount. When I asked about that, they said they had a sign in front. This place was suggested by a Peruvian acquaintance who ate there when he was around the area. We decided to try it since we were around the area this past weekend! This is a nice cozy small family oriented restaurant that we noticed my wife and IWe were immediately greeted by a friendly young lady very attentive While looking at the menu a couple of local customers were picking up large call in orders, we like Peruvian food. We ordered a whole chicken that was perfectly cooked an flavorful!! instead of the regular fries, we ordered with house salad and white bean soup , might sound weird but we don't like to eat much fried food, We also ordered a Papa a la huancaina Peruvian style potatoes with cheese sauce That was delicious of course you have to have it with a Peruvian soda called Inca cola !! We really recommend this Peruvian restaura to my fellow yelpers. Can't wait to go back to try different dishes!!! Very affordable!!! read more

I love this place! Quality food, fresh and well prepared. I am from Peru and the flavors are very similar and traditional.

Now I have not been to this restaurant in a long time. In the past the food was always very good: rotisserie chicken and various other traditional Peruvian foods. I don't know if there are new owners or cooks but the chicken looked as if it was sitting around all-day and it lacked all the flavor Peruvian Rotisserie Chicken should have and the rice was some pale American version of what it should be. My sweet potato had a chemical smell. I will not discuss the black beans....because the only descriptive words I can think of my parents never allowed me to use. I'm sorry to see such a good (formally) joint fall to such a low point. read more

They bring you the food and never check back to see if all is well or do you want anything more. Had to ask for more water even though I was the only person there and they were walking all around me cleaning up. Now, tonight I noticed, for the first time, the tip added. When I asked the girl, she said she always adds it. Maybe I have been missing it, but I don't think so. I ask if it was printed on the menu or was there a sign somewhere . She said no. I found this place on the first day of my two weeks down here and it was so good that I ate here several times. First, the Peruvian chicken and rice soup was awesome. It hit the spot to soothe me during my fever. It had a flavorful broth with rice and a nice piece of chicken. I liked it so much that I came back and ordered a large To Go. For the $3 more, it was a great meal. Note, regular to go soup was smaller than eat in, so it appeared and for $3 more, the large was a great meal that I couldn't finish. It set the bar high that another Peruvian place later in the week couldn't compare. I could see that the soup was prepared every time, so I can only assume that it doesn't sit in a pot waiting to be dished out. Like that except that you'll have to wait for it to be heated and served. The chicken quarter was very flavorful. But I should have gotten the beans with the rice, since it needed it. Serves me for being healthy and opting for a salad instead. Another night I tried the steak, fried egg, rice, fries and plantain platter...and ate every last bite. The steak was well seasoned and my only regret was that the egg wasn't more runny. Definitely will return to try the many seafood dishes.... read more

Small just like you are in a kitchen in Peru...swear there is just 1 cook so it took a some time, but it was all fresh! The ceviche mixto was sooo great & fresh...didn't even get sick LOL. The yuca w/that cheese sauce was great & not over fried. And the merengue dessert (not sure what it is called) was soo lite and tasty! I can't wait to go back & have the pumpkin donut (forgot what they call these too) and that green spaghetti w/steak...omg both looked outstanding! I must preface by saying I have only had Peruvian food a few times, and at that, In Los Angeles. But I know great freaking food when I taste it, and this place was awesome. it greatly exceeded my expectations. When I got back to LA i was so jealous that my friends an family were still going to The Peruvian Kitchen, that I searched for the best Peruvian in LA. It was much more expensive, very popular and well reviewed by both yelpers and Jonathan Gold (THE ethnic hole in the wall reviewer of record), and it couldn't hold a candle to this place. This was definitely the best ceviche I have ever had in my life. Now I pine away for it from across the country. Okay down to brass tacks: Got two ceviche's, the fish and the mixto, both just excellent. Got some dish called "fresh fish" not so descriptive, but look for it, it's a filet that is fried and in a sauce that seems to be made mostly from tomatoes and onions. Chicken Soup- awesome Some kind of shrimp in garlic sauce. just spectacular. This place is casual, authentic and cheap. That's right folks not reasonable, but cheap! I don't know why it has two $$ in the description, that is just not true. I cannot wait to come back to Miami and eat here again. read more

Chicha morada: a Peruvian drink made from purple corn. So when I go to ethnic restaurants, I always order the typical drink from the country of origin, and I can usually tell what the rest of my experience will be like based on what I am served. My chicha morada came bottled... not fresh, as I would have wanted it to be. Being that it is their country's specialty. Now down to the food - we shared a lomo saltado, arroz chaufa with chicken and a ceviche with seafood. The hot stuff was great! Delicious chaufa and not greasy at all... The ceviche was OK, but I've definitely had better... just down the street actually at "Mi Peru" So if you're around the area and don't want to break the bank and just get an ethnic bite, check it out - you won't be disappointed. It is good - but far from great. It is very inexpensive - but when you are eating fish, that can be a bit scary. The place is in a very beat up strip mall and it can be a little sketchy at night. Plenty of parking around, just make sure it is in a well lit, traffic area. The good: ... the price ... it is easy and low key ... the soups are very taste ...the ceviche is large and pretty good (a little scared to think of where the fish came from) The not so good: ...Lomos Saltados - a bit boring and not that tasty ...2 bad wines to choose from - good beer ...it is not the cleanest restaurant I go here once every couple of months. Where do i start?!? My boyfriend at the time wanted to take me to this place because it's near our house but one look at the place and i'm like..."NoOO sweetie! NOT for Valentine's Day!" It is totally a definition of 'a hole in a wall'. But when i finally tried it, it was AMAZING! We would sometimes go 2-3x a week! Would recommend Papa a la Huancaína and Ceviche as appetizers...and Tacu tacu con lomito, lomo saltado and Arroz con marisco are the regular dishes we get. We've gotten food here so often that the owner of the place knows us! Whenever we get visitors from out of town we would take them here.
