I've tried just about every Mexican restaurant in town, and El Tequila is still my go-to spot--at least once a week! The food is always fresh, flavorful, and consistently delicious. Their salsa is hands down the best in Milledgeville, and the chips never last long at my table. One thing I really appreciate is how quick the service is. As part of Yelp's #ThankYouThursday to the local businesses helping people through these difficult times (COVID-19), I decided to try this place using our local delivery service, KNG Delivery. I placed my order for a #19 Combo (1 Burrito, 1 Enchilada, Rice and Refried Beans), along with a free Chips & Salsa. First, KNG did a great job on getting my order to me a few minutes ahead of the scheduled delivery window. 8-) Because the restaurant uses aluminium containers with a lid, the meal was still quite warm upon arrival. When I opened it up, I didn't see the burrito. But, once I cut into the dish, I found it. It wasn't any bigger in diameter than the enchilada. :-o I found the rice and beans to be good. And, between that, and the chips (thicker than I prefer, but good) salsa became my main meal. Unfortunately, I found the filling of the burrito to be very mealy in taste. And, the enchilada, despite the sauce, was quite dry, and crumbly. :-( Even adding my own Sour Cream and Guacamole didn't improve it much. And unfortunately, I ate less than half of the entree, with nothing left over (if ya know what I mean). I will be willing to try them again. But, for sure, the #19 won't be on the list. While visiting the area, I decided to give this place a try. Me and my bf came during around 7:30 which the restaurant had a surge of crowds inside. We were greeted by the hostess & was immediately given a seat. Prior to being seated, someone in the back wiped down the table. Once seated, our server greeted us I don't remember her name but she was very nice and attentive. She informed us it was her first few days back from taking a break from serving. She brought us the complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa could have been more dense and chunkier. As an appetizer we got the queso with carne (which is ground beef and melted cheese) & it was amazing. For the drinks we chose to get the margarita which at first was very syrupy & tasted like plain juice. We informed our server who put additional tequila in the drinks which helped tremendously. My entree was the chicken fajita and it did not disappoint plus I had enough for seconds. The entree was the highlight of my dinner and our server was so kind and very helpful. My two friends and I went in for dinner at el tequila last Friday, April 12th. It was 9:40 and we looked at the website and google to see the hours, and saw the restaurant didn't close until 11pm. When we walked in the male host looked at us, spoke in Spanish to his coworkers, and then said "we close in 20 minutes" To which I responded to update their hours on their website. The male worker then says "that's how business works. Sorry." My family has a restaurant, and i have worked in the industry my entire life. That is indeed not how business works. We waited in the car to see if they were going to sit the couple walking in behind us, and they did. I was lied to and disrespected. This establishment needs major changes. This place deserves more than 3 stars. I love it. My favorite Mexican joint when I am in the Milledgeville area. Service is great. Food is bomb every time. Hell the water with lemon is better than most. Haha. Two of my favorites are the lunch fajitas, which is a huge portion and the lunch chicken chilaquillas. That is what is pictured in my photo. Stopped for some Mexican and wish I had not. Just off the main road it is not hard to get to. Looks like an old steak or bbq place converted to Mexican food. I love Mexican food but there wasn't much to love here. The chips are the thick kind, which I prefer thin, but they were decent. The jalapeño queso was ok but then the main entrees arrived. Food had no taste, none! I ordered the Burrito Tampiquenos with steak. I asked the waitress what's special about their "special sauce" and she said nothing...it's just enchilada sauce. I received two foil wrapped burritos. Opening them up it was steak drenched in the sauce. On the side was a bowl of lettuce, tomato, sour cream and guacamole. I added everything to it and even some of the chip salsa to get flavor but still nothing. My wife had the Quesa Fajita and she said it was ok. Very disappointed and will not be back read more

We have loved "El T" for nearly 3 years, going multiple times a week with our friends, but we will no longer be eating at or recommending it. My wife called today to place an order for pick up. The lady who answered the phone was abrupt, and sounded irritated that we even called. My wife and I worked in the food industry for nearly a decade, so we understood she could have been busy- so we ignored it. We try to be mindful of placing togo orders during busy hours, so we called after the lunch rush, and before dinner (we called at 4pm). However, when my wife arrived at the restaurant her order wasn't placed. Yes, that is inconvenient and even frustrating, but no big deal. What took place afterwards is absolutely unacceptable. They told her she did not call in! Not, "did you call the right restaurant?", but they flat-out kept telling her she didn't call in. Instead of correcting the issue, the manager just kept asking her who she talked to- which is completely inconsequential. She had no clue who took her order. No apologies, no attempt to make it right- just continual asking who did she talk to. My wife was shocked so she double checked she had dialed the correct number. She verified it was correct, and when she showed the lady at the restaurant the correct number and the elapsed time on the call, she said "you didn't call us, you need to check your cellphone provider." I'll drive further, and pay more to support a business that holds itself to higher standards of integrity, customer service and general kindness. read more

I get the Carnitas and they are delicious! I come here quite frequently with my partner, and the food is always hot and good. The margaritas are delicious, and I would come for just them. In a town where Mexican restaurants pop up as frequently as tramp stamps on sorority girls, your next serving of chips and queso is never far away. After living in Milledgeville for seven years, I've been there, done that, got the...heartburn...to prove it and El Tequila remains one of my all time favorites. Mexican restaurants are great for children and this one is no exception. The service is fast, there's music playing to drown out any wailing and I can convince even my occassionally picky eaters to try new fare with comments like "Hey guys...quesadillas are just Mexican grilled cheese sandwiches!" The decor is typical mexi-cafe fiesta, with brightly-colored sarapes, ceramic suns and sombreros on the walls. It is very clean and the staff are friendly and eager. Some Friday evenings they have a mariachi band that performs table to table. They are adorable and it entertains the heck out of the kiddos too. I love El Tequila's chips and salsa. Warm chips are served with two types of salsa, one traditional and one with an amazing smoky flavor I've never found anywhere else. I've moved, and I can't visit all the time now so I'll buy large to-go cups of the salsa to freeze and savor it from home. Of course they also have the amazing white cheese dip that compliments everything from taco salad to Lean Cuisines :) They have all your usual mexican fare and handle the standards admirably; burritos, enchiladas, chile rellenos etc. My favorite, and more unique, offerings are their Mexican Chicken soup with rice and avacado and the juicy carnitas - stewed pork served with hot tortillas and avacado salad. Chimichangas are pretty common, but the ones here are fried perfectly, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, just delicious. So, grab your kids - and some napkins, because it's about impossible to get that cheese dip off their faces! - and head to El Tequila. read more

The first thing I noticed was dozens of bees and wasp around the car and the entrance. My family has allergies so of course this raised a red flag. Once inside we were quickly seated and waited on. When the waitress came back with chips I asked the waitress if the chips were vegan and if it had milk (as some restaurants do) and she looked as though my question went over her head and she said "yes." I asked again to clarify and she said yes. Something told me to ask a different waiter and of course a different waiter tells me the chips are vegan and confirmed anything on the vegetarian menu could be made vegan. Which was great news but I almost missed out on the chips due to my other waitress not acknowledging she didn't understand my question. She also didn't understand my request for my drink at first and she didn't add it to my order, I never had my appetizer that I ordered either. My families appetizer didn't come out before the main course so they ended up canceling it. I paid a little over $14 in total for the large margarita (delicious) but it must have been watered down because I felt it for one minute and it was gone. The fajita was really amazing. The food and drinks were delicious but their service needs work. In total two appetizers were never given and I wouldn't have received my drink if I didn't ask again. I have to say I've been to this restaurant twice; once when it first opened in this location a few years back and again this past weekend. I have been very disappointed both times with the service and the quality of food. This past weekend we went on a Friday night and when we walked in we had to wait to be seated, but the problem wasn't that we had to wait, it was the fact that they didn't really know how to seat people due to some organized method they were using. After being seated we waited a good 20 mins for the server to come over and take our drink orders; and of course by this time we were ready to order our food as well. She did return the drinks within 5 minutes, but the food took about another hour; and it was disgusting (with exception to the queso). The queso was pretty good, but then again most melted cheese dips are. For dinner I ordered a steak quesdilla that came out and was not really steak, but more of a stew stuffed in a flour tortilla; it was served with very bland rice that must have been instant. My wife got the number 20 combo which was an enchilada, tamale, and chili relleno; all of which was a big soggy mess. Her tamale was ok, but the chili relleno tasted like it was soaked in the kitchen sink and her tamale tasted funky. After we were done eating we waited about 30 more minutes to get our check; so we were in there for about 2.5 hours. I took the check to the front and the cashier was really lacking the friendliness she needed for the job. We left the first time saying we'd never come back here in 2011ish and again this past weekend 6 years later we returned. Again we won't be back here; at least for another 6 years. read more

When I went here, I was seated immediately, so I was hopeful. We were given salsa and chips and then weren't asked our drink order for around 15 minutes. Then, we ordered around 10 minutes later. We never received half of our order, and some of the food I did receive was wrong and I didn't eat it. What an awesome "pre-graduation" dinner we had for my grandson. We were able to reserve the back room and had over 50 people with many different checks. I found it very inspirational that between 2 very well organized waitresses they were able to take the different orders, put them all in to the kitchen at the same time and all the food was delivered all at the same time. Each "party" didn't have to wait. This was my first visit since I live 14hours away. The food was outstanding and the service was superb! El Tequila is a bit off the beaten path in Milledgeville and if you aren't looking close enough, you might mistake it for a biker bar or a steakhouse. I've been twice and have had a similar experience both time. The servers are not super friendly and the food is mediocre but the margs are very good. A little orange-y (maybe too much triple sec), but by far the best margarita I've had in Milledgeville. Overall, their food is not amazing. My friend ordered a #8 and the server did not ask what kind of meat she preferred... therefore she got a crumbly ground beef taco that went uneaten. My husband and I had flautas filled with beans and while we asked for extra guacamole, our server promptly forgot about t until our meal was finished. I was hoping that this was the Milledgeville hole in the wall I've been searching for, but it definitely wasn't. I'm sure I'll end up back here for a marg and appetizers, but I won't eat a full meal here if I don't have to. read more

My husband and I eat here pretty often, it has decent food and is close to my house. Today we went in there and the hag with gimp leg thats always in compression hose told the guy at the register rudely in Spanish not to seat us in her section. I guess since she wasn't speaking English she figured we wouldn't know what she said. We were seated by ourselves and ignored for 10 mins which wasn't a surprise since he had to turn on the lights in the section he sat us in. We left. Good food but the owners are incredibly rude. Easily the most unpleasant people in Milledgeville. Lots of great servers--some of our favorites--have left because of this. You'll routinely see the owners yelling at the poor employees. Lots of really good servers, but I just feel bad for them. The owners sigh loudly when you request a booth as opposed to a table, they keep spanish shows on every television (your employees shouldn't be watching TV) and they don't speak a word to you when paying for your meal at the front. They take your money and shove your receipt to you. When you walk in, it seems as if they're pissed off that you're there. No smiles. No greeting. Just "How many?" as they snatch menus off the hostess stand and quickly walk to your seating place. This makes it very hard to spend my hard-earned money with such ungracious people. If there were better Mexican food in Milledgeville, I'd never visit again. But thanks to a lack of options, this is where I go to get my Mexican fix. read more

Hit or miss at El Tequila. Sometimes I have good and bad we experiences. Food is ok, not the best Mexican food I've ever had but decent.

Returned to El Tequila after a year absence in this area and was shocked at the change in the food. Four of us at the same table ordered a version of the taco salad. The tortilla shell bowls arrived at our table only half full. There was very little lettuce in any of the salads. The chicken was also minimal and was tough, stringy and way overcooked. My super taco salad had chicken, 2 shrimp, and I never found any steak. My wife's salad was watery and soggy at the bottom of the bowl. A great place to eat has taken a huge turn in the wrong direction from our standpoint. Having said that, the place was busy and still packed at 8 pm on Friday night. I don't know that we'll return next time in the area. read more
