The servers at this establishment were amazing!! They are friendly and courteous, they try to accommodate your request. However, the food is below par. So I ordered cheese enchilada, tostada and puffy taco. Let's talk the meat, there was a chili con carne sauce that they put on the tostada and enchilada and used in the puffy taco, I didn't care for that. There should have been a different kind of meat for my puffy taco and tostada, like a picadillo or fajita meat, but not an enchilada sauce on everything. The salsa was hot, no flavor. The puffy taco wasn't puffy or crispy, it broke under pressure. The tostada stayed crispy but the meat was enchilada sauce and wasn't good. Another thing was the food came out very quickly, like we ordered and 3 minutes later we already had our food. I like my food thoughtfully prepared and this wasn't. I don't mind quick but I'm not into microwaved. I am really disappointed because the food wasn't good at all, the only reason I am giving them a 2 stars is because of the service, other than that, the food sucks!! read more

Tried El Tipico for the first time today w my family. My daughter got the kids burger which was Not kid size. More like Texas size. Looked great. I had the small plate, the enchiladas were delicious. These people will rip you off. I have seen and heard of customers being charged $20.00 to $27.00 over. One customer was sitting down waiting for his order, a steak dinner, and he received a steak in the form of a patty. One that would be served to students in elementary school. These people once tried to charge me $4.87 for one carne guisda. Last of all, and this is the important point, the food is not good. Some times, by luck, they score a touchdown and get it right. But, more times than not, the food is simply awful. These waitresses over charged me on my debit card for a total of some thing like $70.00. I alerted my bank and we went over the numerous charges, some never occurred and I was credited all the ridiculous fake totals. Then they went after them and got their money, in turn. Banks DO NOT mess around. In essence, you will get some horrible food and be charged over by $20.00. read more

Ok first of all I am almost reluctant to give 5 stars only because I really love this place and don't want too many people to start to invade my space. But on the other hand, the more people the more money for the staff who defiantly deserve it. Drinks are great and service is outstanding. I am updating this review in effort to stop the bleeding before it gets worse. First of all, I am still a customer and want to stay that way but due to the lack of service, the last couple of visits have been mediocre. We sit in the bar area and business has been busy but with only one bartender serving the ENTIRE restaurant we have waited over 10 minutes for our drinks, which are only beers, no cocktails. On one visit, after several attempts to order food, and my order was never taken I had to leave and go down to the street to Los Dos Laredos, which I may add was very very good food ( and they sell beer) to satisfy my hunger, and we were served right away. I have also had a good friend of mine experience the same situation with the service, especially from the bar since there is only 1 person behind the bar. they have said they are not returning. So with the lack of service and other options in the area, (especially with the new La Tapatia Bar and Grill about to open and Los Dos Laredos which is great food) I hope things get better and service is addressed in order to continue to be a restaurant people will continue to visit. read more

This place has changed since the last time I was here. They have remodeled the front entrance, painted the inside, redone the bathrooms, and more. Everything looked very nice and clean. I have been coming to El Tipico since I was a little girl. I was sad when this location had a fire and shut down. It's back open and better than ever. I finally had the chance to stop in. The #1 was exactly as I remembered, two cheese enchiladas, two beef puffy tacos, rice and beans. It was delicious!! I love those new decor and that they added a full bar. The seating arrangement is backwards in this restaurant. Booths are along the windows and tables outline the men's and womens bathroom. Bad layout design. It should be reversed so one has to accidentally see something not appealing. I have been here three times and the same service at all times. All tables rock back and forth. C'mon, fix your tables. Ask for a napkin and you literally only get one napkin. We each ordered soups on this visit. The chicken caldo was half skin and fat and very very little chicken or vegetables. The tortillas are always late at the table because they are always struggling with the tortilla machine. It seems like the manager is always crowding the machine to fix it. Odd. I notice the manager always looking around but not once in all three visits do I see him actually do something to help his waiting staff. There were tables needing drink refills and he didnt budge one bit. We asked for teas to go and they have only one size, small and empty, we took the little bit of tea from our table. They're waiting staff do not have the proper etiquette in how to address a customer. The only reason I gave an extra star was to point out they are open till midnight. Waiting staff trained for all to do the same but unfortunately they are trained to follow bad management principles. Food is for the most part very good but the restaurant sometimes hits to near empty. Sad. read more

Service was ok so maybe they deserve the one star. As for the food it was all nasty. The steak was supposed to be medium rare but I got a well done flavorless steak. My party also ordered the fajitas and they were flavorless it seemed like they were boiled and tossed on the grill for color. First and LAST time going to this place. Went to celebrate my moms bday, and was seated before the whole party showed up, so the rest of the party had to sit at another table until the poor old couple sitting next to ours left, so they could join that table to ours. They were practically rushing the couple out. Waitress had an attitude with us, my aunts food didn't come out until the rest of the party was done eating. Side salad was just a lump of shredded lettuce with two pieces of tomato. Menu shows that we can order french fries or baked potato with meals, waitress told us they don't have baked potatoes at that restaurant, if that's the case, then it shouldn't be on menu. Decent Mexican restaurant, way better than Lazarita's. The street tacos and soups are excellent here. I do not recommend the fish tacos, it just taste really bland and not to my expectations. There is happy hour here, but I believe only female can get the discount, discount does not apply to males. I am glad that this restaurant is close by work. read more

i was hesitant to go to this restaurant but decided to try it and was very surprise at the outcome. the decor is great love the rock wall and it also has an elegant feel to it unlike some mexican restaurants that feel like i just walked into mexico. i had chicken fajita tacos and my boyfriend had crispy tacos and they were excellent. it had a great taste to it and they put a decent amount of meat for the a great price. i recommend this place if you want to have an elegant evening with your family. read more

Had a bad experience at the El Tipico on Rigsby near I410. So we show up for a table of 14. It wasn't busy at all when we arrived. Some young girl took our drink order and then our actual waiter came by and we repeated ourselves to him our drink order. He brings out our drinks all is well and we were impressed they take their orders on an IPad. Like cool! The orders most likely are put in a lot faster like right after you order , it's sent. NOPE! 45 minutes later less than half of our party recieve their plates, NOBODY got the appetizers they ordered AND we were told two of our plates were given away to another table. The adults also got all their plates before the kids which was annoying. The server really tried and refilled our drinks timely but their food runners suck and they were out of stuff so you see all staff running to Beefand Bourbon, their other restaurant attached. They should have all things on hand. I can't imagine being a server in this disorganized place with such crappy managment. Then I talked to the owner and told him what happened if he can at least not charge us for our drinks. Idiot says "I can't do that but I can give you a discount" Bull crap you cant! Your the freaking owner. He should comp our entire ticket half off at least! We ended up only getting a measly 5% discount that barely covered the tax AND this jerk had the audacity to take off the 18% gratuity that is automatic. What a jerk! He rather take away from the server than his own pocket. The server shouldn't suffer in tips bc this lousy owner! Has no organization or respect for his employees. He blamed the server for everything, took no ownership even though we saw everything before our eyes that we were able to put two and two together. Be sure we tipped the server way more than the 18% gratuity originally given on the ticket. We will NOT return and will be sure to share our horrible expierience. If I could rate this a zero, I would. Not only is the new management horrible, the food is even worse! From plain water to canned Bush refried beans, it's pathetic that such a horrible entity exists. I would have had better service and food at Sonic. Even though every single one of the dishes, with the exception of beans and cheese nachos, was complained on or returned, I was still obligated to pay 90% of the bill. Although the food is decent I would not recommend this place due to lack of honesty. I ate here with five other family members. We had two separate checks. When it was time to pay, the waitress came to our table with a tablet and told us our total. She only showed us the screen with the tip option and signature space. When we questioned the total as seeming too high we were told it was correct. It was awkward to determine the tip right in front of the waitress while she held the tablet. I gave her 15%. My sister felt her bill was high and even asked if the tip was already included. She was assured it was not so she gave 18%. We decided to check our tickets before leaving but were only given a receipt with the total and our signature. We asked for itemized receipts. We waited while they printed them out. My receipt had gratuity charged twice, (18% for a table of six) and the additional 15% I gave. That was about a $10.00 tip for two people since my sister and I had separate checks. They also charged me for three bean and cheese tacos even though we only ordered two. My sister was charged 18% for the gratuity they added and 18% for the one she left. In addition they charged her almost $6.00 for her kids' drinks even though they were included with the kids' meals she ordered. Instead of running our cards again the waitress took money from her tips and gave us some cash back. I regret not speaking to the manager. If you dine here please check your tickets before leaving. i have been going to el tipico, both goliad location or rigsby location for decades. no more. ordered 2 enchilada specials with large queso and guacamole over the phone for pick up on wednesday at 8:16 pm. i was told it would be 20 minutes. i get there at around 8:45 expecting the order to be ready. not ready. they said it would be right out. at about 9:10 i see a lady, who turned out to be the manager at that time, holding a to go bag. finally. but instead of bringing me the bag she starts making tortillas. ok 3 minutes later she's done with the tortillas and then starts talking and laughing with a waiter. after watching that for several minutes she brings me the food. as you might have guessed, it was not the right order - chicken fried steak. the lady at the register then said she had no order for me on the computer. then starts to ask stupid questions that won't change a thing, like who did you speak to and was it a woman or a man. who cares. the lady at the register could not have cared less about the mix up. no more visits to the rigsby location. the customer service is far less than average. read more
