Delicious! Stopped by on a Friday night based on a friend's recommendation. The dining room was packed so we opted for takeout. So glad that I did. It took a fraction of the time and was simply amazing. I ordered a half portion of the ground beef nachos and a half portion of the chicken fajita nachos. The taste was excellent. Loaded with cheese, beans and meat and was made with firm chips that had a great crunch to them. Also included were shredded lettuce and tomato, guacamole, and sour cream. Two kinds of salsa were included in the bag, and spicy creamy, green one and a red one. My favorite was the green one. It has a serious kick so be careful when eating on dry chips. Food is good, but no hot water in men's restroom next to the kitchen where the cooks wash their hands after using the restroom. It's been that way for months. Also the chips are recycled from other patrons left over chips. I'm saying this because they get their chips unsalted, and the last couple of visits there, some of the chips in the basket are already salted. Would be a 5 star rating except for one absolutely awful heartbreaking experience. Food is the best tasting in all of San Antonio. Portions are ample with enough to bring home for the next day. Service is excellent and timely with additional checking if anything else is needed. Ambiance is charming in a relatively newer building with comfortable booths, chairs and tables surrounded by Mexican artwork, motifs and interior- my favorite being a large painting of Frida Kahlo by artist Anguiano. What ruined the entire dining experience is the broadcasting of fox (Faux) news with white supremacists, male and female, espousing ignorant, hateful, racist, xenophobic, and misinformed views about deportation of anyone who is not white, even if they were born here in America. This going on while every single employee working is Hispanic and every single table is occupied by Hispanics. We hadn't been here before and with family in town we're looking for a good Mexican restaurant not too far away (we're in a bit of a rural area). One had some heat and had a bit of 'Smokey' flavor to it; the second was a guacamole based salsa; and the third was a bit sweeter. All three were actually good, but none were a flavor I'd write home about. Our party of three had the following: A taco salad. The bowl was crisp and had a good flavor while not being greasy. The beef fajita meat had a very good flavor to it. The guacamole, lettuce, cheese and beans were all 'typical'. The tomatoes were not to my liking as served - they put 6 slices of tomato in the salad; once I cut them up a bit they were fine. The cheese enchilada plate (and a puffy taco) was quite tasty. The puffy taco had a very good flavor and were well prepared. The cheese enchiladas were prepared well and tasted good. The rice and beans were actually quite flavorful, which is often not the case with many Mexican restaurants. The tortillas were warm, fresh and a bit thicker. Good food. The barbacoa plate was a mixed review. The beans and rice were, as already mentioned, very good. The tortillas were also good. The barbacoa meat was a disappointment - it really had no flavor which was really surprising. I would not order that again. Overall, good food. I would go back again for lunch or dinner. Since the restrictive requirements of covid have relaxed, I have visited CV a few more times. I believe the nationwide hiring issue is impacting this brand. Slow service on each occasion, cold food, dirty floors, etc. place is loved by the locals, which is great, but the staff can't support a full house or even half a full house. I've experienced both.
