This place isn't for someone wanting "authentic" Mexican food. The salsa roja would have been better on pizza. The tomatillo salsa was sour and the salsa verde had a funny taste to it too. I ordered the queso fundido de camarón, I didn't even eat a 1/4 of it, and it was served with flour tortillas.. that says it all. So I paid over $20 for tostadas and a coca Mexicana. read more

This location used to be Acapulco Joe but I personally believe it is better now as El Toro. I recommend coming here for lunch, even if you have a big group. They have long tables and their service doesn't suffer for a larger group - they still make everything super fast. We brought like 12 people and they had everything out to our table within 10 minutes of ordering. They also have good lunch specialties. They are the only Mexican place in town with a tortilla bowl! You can also get this at brothers but it has no meat in it. If you want a traditional taco salad, this is the place to go! read more

Service might take a bit since many large work groups like to go from my experience, but the food is always hot and super tasty. A fav of a friend and myself is the boss burrito. Though you can't really go wrong with anything here. I did come here with friends on the weekend and it's defining more of a fun party vibe! Went around 4 pm on a Thursday so there was no one there. Nice place..fairly spacious, nice covered patio. Tacos were flavorless and fairly dry, though large and filling. The roja and Verde sauces were good though! My guest was not amazed by her food either. read more

Acapulco Joe's would never! Come for the cocktails, not the food but only if you're in the area. We ordered cocktails and they were pretty good; Pineapple Mojito, Paloma, and Watermelon Margarita on the rocks. The good news is the complimentary chips and salsa were good. The guacamole had the right amount of jalapeño and the queso was just alright. On to the disappointment!! 2 of us ordered the quesabirria tacos. I've been looking forward to these all week. They were inedible. The tortillas were soggy and lacked flavor. There's something tragic about biting into food thinking it's meat to discover you have a mouth full of greasy blobby fat!! The "birria" had more fat than meat. What little bit of meat there was tasted old, seemed like it was scraps from earlier in the week. Neither of us ate our tacos. We opened them up then picked through to find the little bits of meat in the sea of fat. Lastly, we were given mole passed off as consomé. Our server seemed clueless about everything and basically said that's how it comes. DO NOT ORDER BIRRIA unless you like eating fatty mushy flavorless tacos. The ceviche was better than the tacos but not worth a second visit. My friend said it was watery and didn't have much flavor. We all liked the cucumber with Tajín, lol Save your coins. Twice in one day?! A friend invited me to lunch and our first choice didn't work so he brought me here. We came on a Saturday afternoon. We were seated immediately with chips and salsa. Then it took about 10-15 mins for anyone to come take our drink orders and food orders. They were not busy and the staff just kept walking by. Finally after an uncomfortable stare off between me and the manager, she came over and asked if we had been helped. I had the quesoBirria tacos. I was expecting them to be dipped/coated in the consume like the photo in the menu. They were not and I could not find any cheese inside. The flavor of the beef is 10/10. It was really good. I came back that evening because I already had plans for a GNO. The vibe is totally different at night. The drinks are cute but not strong at all. The way they serve it ...cute and hyped up. Stopped by for a late lunch and the food servings were huge. I got the spicy pork with beans tacos. The filling was delicious however I tried it in a flour tortilla and it was even better (to me). The two sauces that came with it were outstanding. I actually ordered beans & rice but it was really too much food, but I enjoyed what I could eat. As far as the drinks and service, it wasn't the best. I ordered a sangria margarita and it had to be one of the worst drinks I ever had. I was browsing DoorDash for something new and it did not disappoint. I ordered the veggie fajitas since it was National Fajita day. There was tons of fresh veggies. I usually don't care for the rice at Mexican restaurants and am pretty picky about refried beans, but their rice and beans were the best I've had anywhere. Went for a networking event and the customer service was great! They were fast and made sure we had everything we needed. I tried the fish Ceviche and it was delicious I also tried the margarita flight and it was so much to share with others at the table. Our table ordered quite a few for a bday so we were looking for entertainment. The reviews on here that are negative complain about the noise. This is a party/ hype place!! Not your typical family Mexican restaurant. If you like a hype environment this is the place to be. The reviews were accurate. Food was pretty much same as other places and came out quick. Drinks were all a presentation. Some came on fire or bubbly. El toro came with 4 diff full size drinks. We got the margarita flight. Passion fruit was good but too sweet. Jalapeño was spicy. What a find, right downtown... who knew? This is a great place for fancy drinks. You can get super expensive margarita flights or even patron margarita trees which actually come with mini fireworks... I something at another table arrive in a toy truck and prepared tableside. I assume that this had to be either El Catrin or Volcano, but I could be mistaken. But even if you are just going for one glass of margarita here, you are in for a treat. My guest chose the peach margarita on the rocks. This was served apparently with dry ice. The server poured it tableside and the fog poured out of the glass for quite a while. Beautiful to observe. I opted for the frozen green apple margarita and as a jolly rancher flavor it came with a green apple tootsie roll in the drink. How fun is that? Veggie options are rather limited here, so that and the prices are the reason for only 4 stars instead of 5, I would love to give 4 1/2 stars, but that's not an option. Vegetarians only have the choice of salads and 3 or 4 other dishes. Sorry guys. Personally I had the Chicken Tin Tan, which I had never seen on a Mexican menu, so I had to check it out. Chicken breast topped with spinach, sauteed onions and peppers, grilled shrimp and covered in queso. It comes with all the usual fixings, rice, refried beans, sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo, lettuce and 3 flour tortillas. The chicken and the shrimp were excellently flavored and prepared just right. So often you get rubbery shrimp, not here though. And so much food too. I literally ordered and in 3 minutes she came out with the food so needless to say nothing was hot. Maybe lukewarm. I put 30 minutes on the meter and used 10 minutes it took me longer to pick out what I wanted to order on the menu. The steak burrito was very disappointing. I asked for no beans. The service was great. There was $6 parking a parking structure literally right next door. $6 seems like a lot, but that's the price you pay for eating downtown. I immediately noticed it was the old Acupulco Joe's, which used to be a staple in Indy. We were seated immediately. The music was nice. It was Spanish but more modern contemporary than traditional. And it wasn't too loud or distracting. My husband got the 3 taco plate--the enjoyed the pork but he said the meat in the steak and chicken were dry and didn't have much flavor. I got the steak fajitas, and they were delicious. You could taste the char on the green peppers and onions, meat was sizzling and juicy. Serves Pepsi products- husband got Diet Mountain Dew, I stuck with water. Service was quick, waiter was attentive. Bill came to about $40 with a tip. Nothing about it really set it apart from most other Mexican restaurants so I don't know if I would go out of my way to go there, or necessarily recommend it to out-of-towners...but I left with a full tummy and wasn't disappointed. If someone suggested meeting there I definitely wouldn't turn them down. read more
