Such a great place to celebrate! We went for a friends birthday, and they go all out with instruments & singing to the guest of honor. They even gave her a sombrero to keep. The drinks are so fun, most come with dry ice so they bubble while you drink them. I really enjoyed the Acapulco special with steak, shrimp, & chicken. Well this was awesome! First time here and it definitely didn't disappoint. This place is located on the corner of Illinois and Vermont st. It's got a small yet cozy interior. Salsa is on point here. Not spicy at all. I had the sangarita for my drink. They use dry ice here, which made the drink bubble and smoke!! Had no idea of that before ordering, and I couldn't stop laughing when it came. For my meal, I had the tilapia topped with a white cream sauce with scallops, crab, and octopus (you could still see the suction cups!!!) This was one of the best seafood dishes I've had at a Mexican restaurant. Not spicy at all and full if flavor- didn't need guac or sour cream at all. I usually order El Toro by food delivery service but finally got the chance to stop in and so glad I did. We ordered a few drinks and the presentation was amazing! My coconut and strawberry barrilito was delicious. I want to go back and get the full pina colada. It was sweet and creamy. We were greeted with chips and salsa immediately and ordered our entrees. This place is a huge improvement over the old Acapulco Joe's. No longer do you squeeze watery salsa out of a plastic ketchup bottle. Food is your typical American Mex (fajitas, chimichangas, tacos, burritos, etc.). I ordered the steak fajita lunch and I have no complaints. It was $8 and the steak was of a decent quality and cooked/seasoned well. If you like spicy food, ask for some of the homemade hot sauce they keep in the back. Much better than the bottled store-bought stuff you find on the tables. It looks like the new owner (owns several other Mexican restaurants in Indiana, Illinois and Ohio) remodeled too. We went when it was busy. I took this into consideration, but our server acted like she didn't know what she was doing. Did not check on us, and alcoholic beverages came after meal was delivered. They also charge gratuity on tables over 4 and up, which as a server I have never seen anywhere. This was not disclosed to us and was not on the bill. They use the machines to pay at the table, so my total came up but that was not on there. Then it asks for a tip option again. Once I asked for a receipt, I saw the gratuity added. I have mixed feelings about this place. 1. My opinion may be biased because i remember Alculpoco Joe's that this place replaced, who has really good chorizo biscuit and gravy 2. We went on a Friday night so I'm not sure if it is different on the weekend I like what they did to the place from a decor standpoint. The music was kinda loud when we got there and got louder and louder as we were there. Ultimately we left because it was so loud we could no longer hear each other talking across the table. If you want a club and dancing, then great. If you want to eat and have conversation, this is not the place for you. Everything on the menu is pricey compared to other Mexican restaurants. Which would be fine if the food were outstanding, but it was on the low side of average for me. I got a $13 taco salad with chicken and i questioned what kind of meat it was because it didn't really taste like chicken. We also ordered queso fundido for the table, which came out in a skillet and was not your typical white queso sauce. It was just melted cheese with sausage. It had little to no flavor and was difficult to eat with chips because it was so stringy. Not what we were expecting. My friends got margaritas which came with dry ice which makes it bubble, which was a fun experience, but again not necessarily worth the price. I have other favorite Mexican restaurants with much bigger margaritas that taste way better. I also got a coconut mojito which was $9 and came in a tiny glass full of ice, so i basically paid $9 for a shot of coconut alcohol. It was tasty but very short-lived. It wasn't a terrible experience, but with SO MANY Mexican restaurants to choose from with better food and more reasonable pricing, i don't think I'll be back. read more

HUGE PORTIONS! Great authentic Mexican restaurant downtown. They have a smaller menu than most Mexican restaurants but the staples are there. We started with the white queso and Choriqueso. I have been to this establishment about three times. Always a decent time, nice place to pre game or just come for the vibes. They have good food, affordable prices ($10-30/person) but let me tell you!!!! Those drinks??? They are heavy handed and I love it! My friends and I ordered the Patron flight right away. It's 4 drinks and you select the flavors of patron that you'd like from choices like pineapple, passion fruit, guava, watermelon, strawberry, and so on. I definitely recommend the watermelon! They serve the drinks with sparklers, it's an event! Chips and salsa were provided and tasty! I ordered a fajita quesadilla which also came with rice, beans, and a guacamole salad. Came back for the second time for my Birthday Celebration. Food was good, drinks were great, staff was rude! My advice to this restaurant is to go over specifications for this reservation when booking. I booked a Birthday Celebration for my birthday one month in advance. I was not told I have a 20 minute grace period, half of my party has to be there to be seated , or that there would be an additional Birthday Celebration charge. I spoke to these people 3 different time. None of this was told to me. I was late but half of my party was in attendance. They were seated but with threats of cancellation. No one called to speak to me until I was walking in and not before them stopping me to tell me we only have 1hr and 30 minutes left with our reservation which was fine due to me being late but with attitude and trying to argue with me which wasted more of my rushed time. I did not appreciate the rudeness. Needless to say 1 hour and 30 minutes was more than enough of time. I understand rules and policies but when they are never stated it's hard to abide by. The setting for the party was nice and actually still decorated for Valentine's Day so it was great for taking pictures. Overall nice birthday! Even though it was rushed it was great. My advice is please disclose all fee's upfront! Even the hidden $15 Celebration fee that's added at the end for signing happy birthday. It's well worth it. People deserve to know what they are paying for. For the readers there is a $35 to $50 charge for 15 people or more. Depending on the person you speak to. read more

We were a group of 5 walking in for lunch. Upon entering we were impressed with their inside decor. The Margaritas poured into your glass at the table over dry ice was a great touch. Israel the owner made us feel like family. The food was spectacular. Came out fast and hot. The chicken flautas has a nice crisp, not overly fried like most places. I had the Alambres.. Grilled steak with onions, pobalno peppers and juicy bacon. Covered with layers of melted cheese. I can't wait to come back again. Our server informed us that Friday's they have Margaritas for $5.99. There is also an outdoor patio for the summer. The owner let us know that they will be adding an outdoor bat and enhancing the patio in May. El Toro Bravo has been such a great addition to the downtown area! As a resident at one of the apartment complexes nearby, we were so excited to try El Toro after a couple bad experiences at Aculpoco Joe's. There are so many reasons to give this place a try, first being their menu - it's huge, so there's sure to be something for everyone (from vegitarian options, to seafood options, to meat options. It's all there). I always have a hard time deciding what I want because there are so many things that sound delicious and all very generous portions. They also have a really fun drink menu and $5 margs! Seriously how can you pass that up? They also have a margarita flight that I've not tried yet but is on my list to try next! The service at El Toro is also top notch! The food comes out very quickly and is always piping hot and fresh. Servers stop by regularly to refill your chips and water (+10 points) and ask if you need anything else. At my most recent visit, I ordered a cheese dip and they gave me a free refill and apologized for the slow service even though I thought the food came out in a very appropriate amount of time. Regardless it was much appreciated and so refreshing to see how dedicated the staff was to making our experience the best. They have a big patio with outdoor seating, a really cool bar inside with barrel stools that I keep telling myself I need to sit at, and lots of bright colored murals on the walls inside. Bottom line: stop by and give this place a try your next trip downtown for tasty food and excellent service (and of course bottomless chips and salsa)! read more

My boyfriend and I hadn't been there before, but it was the closest to downtown we could find. We were seated right away. The hostess brought three waters (there were four of us). We were not spoken to for at least another 20 minutes (the waters were now empty). Finally a waitress stopped by and asked if we had a server, we said no. She took our orders and finally we got our cocktails All four of us ordered one drink, and one meal. We were ignored For 20 minutes and then charged a $10 gratuity on each check (the couples split to two bills total). We were a four top. Watch your bills. They will add gratuity with no warning. Especially, since others had large parties. We, sat in the back near the outside patio. On, the Cinco de Mayo they had live DJ that was playing a lot of good songs included Selena. My friends and I all ordered drinks, two of us had the delicious rainbow margarita which is very good, has all the margarita flavors so it's worth the $23.00. My other friend had two of the regular margaritas. I didn't eat anything there yet one of my friends had the Boss Burrito that's 10-inch flour tortilla with steak, chicken, beans, and onions inside. Topped with Mexican sausage, shrimp, pineapple, and cheese sauce. That burrito was so big and fulfilling that she took the rest of the meal home. While, the other friend had Acapulco Special which is Steak, chicken, and shrimp topped with cheese and served with rice, guacamole salad, and tortillas. The restaurant is very popular for the tequilla tower, and those tequila drinks does come in different flavors including jolly rancher. Nonetheless, El Toro Bravo is definitely a very lit, good vibes, good drinks, restaurant offered excellent service, and my friends and I enjoyed it. Some of my favorite tacos I've had in a while! I got three spicy chorizo tacos that came with two salsas. It costs extra to have lettuce and cheese for tacos. However, chips and salsa are provided for the table. Service was to be expected. We were checked on often but not too frequently. Unfortunately, this was a very costly meal and the only parking I could find was the paid parking garage next door.
