I've been going to El Lago for many many years but their constant mistakes and just plain rudeness has just gotten so bad, I just hate servers that visibly show that they do NOT want to be there. I made the mistake to ask the server for something (the last time I ate inside) and he just rolled his eyes and stomped off (this is typical for this server who has been there for years). After MANY mistakes on my take-out order the last mistake could have had severe HEALTH consequences. I asked for the gluten free corn tortillas and received the flour product, after repeatedly making sure he made sure since the standard meal does come with flour tortillas. Always on the look out for a new place so used Yelp search. This place is in a small shopping area so plenty of parking places. They have a few tables outside. I sat at the bar, it has 6-8 seats. I had a mango frozen margarita, it was delicious I had brain freeze more than once! The pork tamale with masa was the best I've had at a restaurant. Every single time we've been to this place. They never get the order correct. The last time we were in to pick up a carry out order my wife was told by the manager "You Call In every time and tell us we messed up the order". El Lago is my family's favorite Mexican restaurant in all of Fishers! We come here for dinner at least once a week, and the menu is so extensive that all four of us can get something different every time, without repeats. El Lago also has some of the nicest staff members who are very welcoming to customers and attentive to their needs during the meal. El Lago is best known for their flavored margaritas and cocktails, they also offer a pretty good selection of soft drinks. Most of the Mexican restaurants in our area serve Pepsi, but El Lago has Coke products (much to my Diet Coke-loving family's delight!) My family starts off every meal at El Lago with their signature chips and salsa, as well as a bowl of queso to share. The chips are always served hot, which I appreciate. I also love that each person at the table gets their own salsa bowl, which makes the dining experience much less messy and more convenient. Speaking of the salsa, it is probably the best salsa within a 10-mile radius! It's light, but the chunks of tomato and onion keep it from feeling "watery", and it has a touch of spice that isn't completely overpowering. My favorite part is that every vegetable and herb in the salsa tastes fresh, and of course the chips make a perfect vessel! The queso is pretty standard in terms of flavor, but it's very thin and does not stick to the chip. My sister's favorite dish is the arroz con pollo, which is served with a side of tortillas. The idea is that customers can make their own soft tacos using the rice, chicken, and queso mixture, but it tastes pretty delicious by the spoonful as well! Tonight, I had the chicken soft tacos, and I was really impressed with how flavorful and juicy the chicken was. I loaded my tacos up with cheese, peppers, onions, tomatoes, and salsa, creating the perfect balance of flavors. My mother usually enjoys the El Lago flautas, which are kind of like hard tacos rolled into a "tube" of sorts. They are served with guacamole, tomatoes, and lettuce. We shared a variety of items which were all fresh and delicious: Guacamole El Lago, Arroz con Pollo and Tamales. I can also recommend the Margarita Texana while enjoying the complimentary chips and salsa! We really appreciated the welcoming and friendly service. You just can't ask for more than attentive service and tasty food in a nice, clean environment. I've been going to El Lago for years! I've never had a single complaint about the salsa and chips, the food , or the drinks. Every once in awhile yes they are busy and may be taking care of other customers which may put you to the side for a few minutes . I feel like that can be normal sometimes . I've been there when it's busy and I've been there when it's slower. Nonetheless I have never had a bad experience to where I've ever felt like I cannot come back. I believe this type of restaurant is the backbone of the type of restaurant you want in your neighborhood . The food is fabulous!! We go at least once a week. We went last night and the service was beyond awful. There was a party 11 of us. It took forever to get our drinks (mostly water) a couple of beers. Then forever to place our order. The place was busy but then the food came out a couple st a time and the kids food was last!! Kids should be served first! I came here with my Parents coming from Florida and I have to say this restaurant was spectacular! There were some downsides like with the chips tasting flavorless (I recommend the Salsa if you're getting chips) and how long the we waited for the food to come out! We sat there for 30 minutes!! We love El Lago. Been there several times over the years and the food is superb. It's been a go-to for us. However, the service has become untenable and tonight I experienced the peak of bad service. El Lago was short staffed and could not keep up with the flow of customers. That is understandable. It was Labor Day and the crowd was probably bigger than expected. What is not understandable is not greeting people when they enter, informing them of the situation, and estimating a wait. This is base level restaurant stuff and it's incredibly disappointing that El Lago couldn't manage the effort. We eventually left after being totally ignored for 10 minutes. Several others left too. The people in front of us had been waiting for 20 mins and were only given two updates which is how we knew they were short staffed. (They must have REALLY wanted an El Lago fix) Unfortunately I'm left worried that the downward trend in service will ruin the experience to the point it's not worth going any more. The people who left tonight were disappointed but Fishers has a lot of choice and El Lago should be striving to keep their clients. Hoping it gets better soon! read more

The queso was fine. The camarones al mojo de ajo, which is my usual order at Mexican restaurants, was creamy and seemed to be made with jarred minced garlic instead of fresh garlic. Since we live roughly an hour away, I like when a restaurant delivers on taste and service. This was our first visit to this restaurant and my wife and I enjoyed our lunch. We were greeted and because there was so much room inside the two indoor dining rooms (one has the bar) we got to pick our own booth. They offered the scan with your phone menu, but because they have such an extensive menu of ala carte items, we asked if they had printed menus (I carry my own hand sanitizer just in case). Menus made it easy to check out ingredients as well as names and photos...the phone versions are too small for me to see much. Thank you for offering the real menu option. Before long we were able to place our order including my wife's strawberry daquiri. She likes them frozen and said it was good, but just a little tart (sour in her words) and fairly strong in ABV. Didn't stop her from enjoying it! She ordered the lunch Chimichanga with chicken and the tortilla unfried. Seemed tasty. I went with the El Lago Bowl with steak. Nice flavoring on the steak strips and plenty to eat when combined with the rice and avocado and black beans, pico de galo, and sour cream. The steak strips were just a tiny bit dry on their own, but when mixed with everything else, were pretty good! There was a decent sized crowd for a lunch, but because there is so much space, we felt comfortable dining inside. While there, take time to notice the beautiful wall mural by Nekoda Witsken in the dining room (non bar area).
