Finding some beef for this afternoon's barbecue
Rick J.

SHORT ANSWER: A great local market, upscale traditional Mexican market. LOCATION: In a nice retail center location with Tesla charging stations and a Starbucks. Lots of parking and very clean. FACILITY: Beautiful small market with an excellent butcher selection of Wagyu and other prime cuts of beef, pork, Chicken, and some fish. MEAT OPTIONS: Many to choose from, all nicely displayed. MARKET: Always well stocked and a great display of how things should be done if premium prices are being charged. ONSITE FOOD QUALITY: Many "ready to go" homemade options, and to create for you. Burritos are huge so unless you are ready for 2 pounds for burrito, maybe share with a friend. Pastries look incredible but not on my diet just yet. STAFF: Everyone is helpful, polite, and seemingly happy being there. OVERALL VALUE: It is expensive but you get what you pay for, the meat is in line with other CV butchers. TIP: Bring your correct expectations, this is a very nice market experience and feels very local.

Really don't appreciate being charged for fat. It's very scammy and greedy. This is just some of the fat I pulled off leftovers. NOT ALL. When I have purchased meats from other meat markets, I have never ran into this. Will not be coming back bc of this. Also, meat was dry and tough. Same with al pastor.

I'm really dropping the best kept secrets in the desert. Take notes people.... El Toro Loco is a newer carnicería located in La Quinta, CA. Unassuming to passerby's, this is a legit premium meat and produce market here in the desert. The quality and selection inside is chefs kiss. Get you a market that "can do both" as they've got aged wagyu and tomahawks on one side of the counter and then tripe and asada on the other. I love this market for being a one stop shop. My shopping list included: * Cerveza * Guacamole * Tortilla Chips * Tacos I definitely accomplished grabbing everything on my list here. What makes this spot the best kept secret is their cocina in the back where they are serving up some of the best tacos I've had in the desert. Like OMG! These tacos are about $3 a piece but they are MASSIVE! I've never seen a regular sized tortilla loaded with so much protein, it's truly insane and literally TAKE MY MONEY. I grabbed some Carnitas & Pastor tacos. They were amazing! If I could only choose one I'd say the Al Pastor really hit as their marinade is super flavorful and again the portions were massive. This was an amazing local find that didn't break the bank and was so good. Feel free to grab your tacos to go or they have some benches out front so you can enjoy them fresh. Pro tip: come on "Taco Tuesdays" for discounted tacos and prepare to fall in love.

El Toro Loco in La Quinta is a treasure tucked into the outskirts of old town --a thoughtfully curated local market. The space is immaculately clean and well-organized, making it a pleasure to browse. You'll find hand-picked artisan choices throughout the store--from a unique cheese selection to wines you won't see at your average grocery stop. Their grocery staples are top-notch, and the fresh produce is vibrant and clearly chosen with care. The in-house butcher is a standout, offering ready-made carne asada and al pastor, plus a small but high-quality selection of choice chicken, steaks and seafood. Everything feels fresh, intentional, and rooted in flavor. In the back, you'll find a kitchen that serves breakfast, lunch, and casual dinner options. Whether you're grabbing to go, need a snack while charging your Tesla or sitting in their small seating area it's definitely a great little secret. A must-visit for foodies, locals, and weekenders alike. One suggestion for owners, offer soyrizo as a "meat" option in the breakfast burritos.

Two dollar tacos on taco Tuesday. I recommend starting at four. You'll find them at the back of the store.

Maru is actually good kbbq in the middle of the desert. Honestly, really impressed. We're from LA…read moreand surrounded by tons of spots and Maru is better than a lot of those. Ordered the stir fried squid which was really delicious. Great flavor, we loveeee squid. The tofu soup was really good too. Love that they give an egg to crack on top - that set it apart and took it up a level. The kimchi pancake was decent too, but not as crispy as I usually like it. Side dishes hit the spot! Especially the fish cake. When we ran out, they quickly brought more. Highly recommend Maru. Amazing service and great atmosphere. The best kbbq in the desert!

YELP SHORT ANSWER: Maybe, Not sure we ordered correctly and found the overall experience expensive…read moreand too much food but most of the food was good we cooked on our own. LOCATION: Very nice retail location with lots of parking options. FACILITY: Excellent buildout, functional for the grill set up but not huge. MENU: Not totally easy to understand so we tried to ask questions but ended up a bit frustrated and just went for combo thinking we'd find what we liked. FOOD PREP: Raw plate was very professional and easy on the eyes. FOOD QUALITY: For the few things we liked it was good, not amazing but since we cooked ourselves maybe we screwed it up. Came to find out you can have their cooks grill for you and serve your table. As I lived in Asia I have visited many similar grills I am a rookie but never had these issues. WAITSTAFF: Not very helpful and maybe a bit on the rude side. We asked questions and got answers that made no sense. I wish I could have asked the robot. I did have to use my phone to understand what some of the offering were. OVERALL VALUE: Not good, very expensive and a disappointing experience for our visit. TIP: Maybe study the menu online before arriving, there is a lot of food. Our leftovers we had to cook at our table before we left as they can't send you home with raw meat I get tht. While it said $107 F1 combo would serve 1-2 people, in my world it could have easily served 4.

I keep a close watch on this heart of mine I keep my eyes…read morewide open all the time I keep the ends out for the tie that binds Because you're mine, I walk the line... Yes this place is legit. I will walk this line to get something from TKB. 4/5 Service The line can look intimidating but moves rather quickly to order. Getting your food, we'll you have to wait. My party all got their food and ai was just standing there like a little kid waiting with anticipation. 5/5 Food I am just thinking of how warm the sandwich was. Went with the special of the day. I can still savor it, makes my mouth water. The Smoked Pastrami was delicious! Pastrami was tender, the garlic buttered french roll added a nice flavor along with the French fries. 5/5 Ambiance Seating in or outdoors. Lots of space even when it's busy. 5/5 Parking Spots are as available as the chips along the line inside. 6/5 Likelihood to Return I can't wait for work to send me to Indio again so I can try another one and walk the line to order. Psalm 5:9, God bless and Stay Prayed Up

The sandwiches were tasty with LOTS of meat. TKB does NOT skimp. Today we arrived and were seated…read moreoutside because we had our dogs. It was well after the lunch rush but it was pleasantly busy. Employees were friendly and checking on patrons, serving food and tending to empty tables. We had been waiting awhile, so I carried our number in with me and made note of the numbers they were delivering... which were higher numbers than ours, but also very random. I went to the cash register and asked the employee if they called the numbers in order. She answered politely that no they didn't. I then mentioned we were sitting outside and asked if I should wait inside for my order so they wouldn't have trouble finding us. We were not in a hurry and were trying to make it easy on the hardworking employees....and bonus that it was cool inside *At that point, a man who I perceived was a manager or maybe even the owner , turned to me from behind the counter, handed me a bag and said " Here Ma'am , GO!" Then turned back around to what he was doing. What? GO? I don't know what his intent was because I'm not a mind reader, but it felt rude and dismissive. His facial expression was as though he was busy and or annoyed. I was so surprised at his response in such an otherwise pleasant environment. I'm pretty tolerant of grumpy people (you know, sometimes there's a reason) but this just felt really icky -it was our intended destination after a hot drive from Phoenix and it did not sit well with us. We won't be returning. Food =10 Customer service = so disappointing 3
