We were staying at a nearby Airbnb for the weekend, and my brother-in-law stopped by El Toro Loco to pick up everything we needed for taco night. He grabbed carne asada, pollo asada, rice, beans, tortillas, and both red and green salsa. We grilled the meats back at the house, and they turned out SO GOOD. SHORT ANSWER: A great local market, upscale traditional Mexican market. LOCATION: In a nice retail center location with Tesla charging stations and a Starbucks. Lots of parking and very clean. FACILITY: Beautiful small market with an excellent butcher selection of Wagyu and other prime cuts of beef, pork, Chicken, and some fish. MEAT OPTIONS: Many to choose from, all nicely displayed. MARKET: Always well stocked and a great display of how things should be done if premium prices are being charged. ONSITE FOOD QUALITY: Many "ready to go" homemade options, and to create for you. Burritos are huge so unless you are ready for 2 pounds for burrito, maybe share with a friend. Pastries look incredible but not on my diet just yet. STAFF: Everyone is helpful, polite, and seemingly happy being there. OVERALL VALUE: It is expensive but you get what you pay for, the meat is in line with other CV butchers. Really don't appreciate being charged for fat. It's very scammy and greedy. This is just some of the fat I pulled off leftovers. NOT ALL. When I have purchased meats from other meat markets, I have never ran into this. Will not be coming back bc of this. Also, meat was dry and tough. Same with al pastor. read more

I'm really dropping the best kept secrets in the desert. Take notes people.... El Toro Loco is a newer carnicería located in La Quinta, CA. Unassuming to passerby's, this is a legit premium meat and produce market here in the desert. The quality and selection inside is chefs kiss. Get you a market that "can do both" as they've got aged wagyu and tomahawks on one side of the counter and then tripe and asada on the other. I love this market for being a one stop shop. My shopping list included: * Cerveza * Guacamole * Tortilla Chips * Tacos I definitely accomplished grabbing everything on my list here. What makes this spot the best kept secret is their cocina in the back where they are serving up some of the best tacos I've had in the desert. Like OMG! These tacos are about $3 a piece but they are MASSIVE! I've never seen a regular sized tortilla loaded with so much protein, it's truly insane and literally TAKE MY MONEY. I grabbed some Carnitas & Pastor tacos. They were amazing! If I could only choose one I'd say the Al Pastor really hit as their marinade is super flavorful and again the portions were massive. This was an amazing local find that didn't break the bank and was so good. Feel free to grab your tacos to go or they have some benches out front so you can enjoy them fresh. I love this store. The produce and quality of meats are really good. I moved to LaQuinta permanently earlier this year and have been looking for a place to purchase higher end produce and cuts of meat close to home (PGAWest). Best Cali burrito I've ever had. This place rocks. Located in a grocery store (nice options including expansive meat counter + large bakery section), this place is tucked into the back of the store. Friendly service was present the entire time. It took a little for the food to be ready, but understandable given the order size. Now onto the food. I started with a large asada quesadilla. This was the best quesadilla I have ever had. The asada was the best I have ever had. Full of cheese which actually had flavor, the quesadilla was a fantastic start. The other item I got was the California burrito with asada and no pico. Amazing. Absolutely stunning. Each bite was sublime. Full of tender and perfectly seasoned asada; crispy and salty fries; fantastic guacamole; and a cheese crusted tortilla made this the best burrito I have ever had. This is my family and I's go to spot for carne asada, fresh salsa, tortilla chips, their donuts and pastries. The store is kept really clean and staff is always friendly and helpful. The meat is seasoned perfectly, the chicken and chorizo are also really good! The chips they make fresh go well with their salsas. Their donuts are fluffy and pan Dulce is so good. (You have to try). Was preparing some carne asada at home so I stopped in to look at their meat counter. Selection was perfect for what I was looking for. Got marinated flap meat which was cut perfectly and had a delicious marinade. It was easy to grill this and make a fabulous dinner. I don't understand if you have it posted that your opened until 8pm then you should take orders until you close. What a great store. We have been shopping here for a while now and have been very happy with their groceries and produce. We haven't purchased meats here yet, but we plan to. The entire meat counter looks awesome - mostly prime cuts, some Australian Wagyu, priced fairly. There are even some cuts prepared for soups vide cooking, which we look forward to trying. Yesterday we stopped on the way home and ordered their OG burrito with asada and a quesadillas with skirt steak to go. Both were excellent - the quesadilla was huge and came with a side of guacamole and a salad (pico or nopal, not sure which but tasty). For $27 and we had leftovers! Their guacamole is available in the refrigerated section and is excellent - has a bit of a kick to it too, which we enjoy. It's clean and all the employees are friendly and helpful. Glad this place is finally open. Went to visit last week, checked the place out. Love the cleanliness of the place, the openness of it all. Well lit. The meat counter looked amazing. Granted a pound of chorizo. Super yummy, very meaty, not fatty like the prepackaged bulk type. We also bought a piece of banana bread. That was so moist and delicious. Pastries were all reasonably priced. The meat counter was a little on the higher end but I guess that's expected. We'll stop by again. Looks like the grill will be open soon. Can't wait read more

Taco Tuesday at its best. I went on a Tuesday to try the burger until I realized tacos were only $2.00. I got two Carne Asada (skirt steak), 2 Cabeza (head), and 1 carnitas (pork). Tried out the usda prime Picana and it was DELICIOUS! At $9.99 a lb it's an absolute steal. All of their meets are fairly priced. They have options for all customers. Remember you get what you pay for. There is wagyu options that are $58.99 a pound but that same 16oz at a steak house would be $90.00-$109.00 for the same quality. Store was extremely clean and staff was very helpful and friendly. Can't wait to go back! So happy they have a great meat market in La Quinta. read more
