Came back last weekend for a quick lunch. We ordered chicken nachos, rolled tacos, fish taco, and shrimp taco. Everything was delicious. The fish and shrimp taco were both tasty, loaded with veggies, and well seasoned. I prefer the shrimp over the fish. The roll tacos were crispy, covered in the usual toppings, they definitely hit the spot. Chicken nachos were also very yummy. The chicken is hard to described, but it was almost crispy, as though it had been cooked in its own juices and fat, absolutely delectable! Came here today for their taco Tuesday special. I ordered adobada and carne asada tacos and the adobada was crunchy, over cooked and dry like a crunchy jerky. It looked like old meat they tried to cook to bring back to life but that meat was pulverized. I had 6 adobada by the way so what a waste because they were not good at all. The carne asada tacos were good. I would order the carne asada again but I'll never order adobada from this place again as it was horribly cooked. We waited over 20 minutes to receive our food just to get home and not be able to eat half. Disappointing to say the least. read more

El toro Mexican grill has the best Birria and QuesaBirria I have ever had in San Diego. I never thought I could get tacos like these outside of Tijuana but somehow they really pulled it off. The consomé is delicious and balanced, overall the whole thing isn't too spicy and leaves you wanting more. Also, the horchata tastes fresh and natural, you can tell it doesn't come from cheap powder brand, this place is legit! They also have plenty of specials during week days and bring out the adobada trompo on weekends! Such a great local business. read more

Worst experience ever! Hungry, I chose this for delivery via door dash bc it was a short delivery time. Placed an order for Carne Asada fries, with an extra side of guacamole and sour cream. Imagine my surprise when I opened the door to only find the sides! Store gave me credit for the main order, but charged 1.50 for the sides and the driver got his $4 tip! Restaurant never attempted to contact me to ask or advise me of a problem. Tried calling, only to get a recording "mailbox is full". This was our to go to taco shop, until today. We typically call in our orders twice a week and are genuine regular and faithful customers. Today when picking up our order (2 burritos) we were told we can no longer get items from the salsa bar and informed it is for dine in customers only. To me , that is sad because we really looked forward to the carrots and onions and different salsas they have. Husband and I like spicy and we also get 1 or 2 of the green mild for the kids. We told the cashier that we didn't even get salsa with our to go order. She gave us a couple of 1/4 oz containers. Too small. But oh well. This place makes some fantastic street tacos and some pretty good hard shell regular size tacos as well. I stopped in for an early dinner after work and order two mini adobada tacos and two shredded chicken hard shell tacos. They made a mistake with the hard shell tacos and served me two shredded beef tacos instead of the chicken for some reason. It did not really bother me, because I like them, so I went ahead and ate them. Although the shredded beef tasted quite good, the tacos did need a little more beef. The corn tortilla shells were very well fried to a gentle crispiness and nice very light golden color. The amount of shredded lettuce was just right and so was the amount shredded cheese, but in the end, more beef would of been just grand. The adobada mini street tacos were bliss. They put a good amount of the tasty and tender adobada flavored pork. The adobada tasted of red chili, oregano, garlic, and a touch of vinegar, but what I liked most about the pork, was the they great charring they left on the meat. The charring not only added nice color, but flavor as well. The guacamole was light in color and had good seasoning, and the chopped cilantro and onions were fresh. The corn tortillas were moist and came nice and warm. Great little tacos. They offer and unlimited salsa bar and some house corn tortilla chips which were excellent. The chips were of the thicker variety, which I prefer and like very much. If you come on Taco Tuesday's, they have specials like street tacos for .99 cents. I really like it here. It used to be something else before it became El Toro. Nonetheless the food quality didn't change. They have a the best carnitas in the area. Hence they sell out of carnitas by the end of the day. I used to get nervous to come to this area because I seemed seedy, but it's pretty chill. We passed by one night and they were open past 10pm , so naturally we come here to get some tacos. They have trips tacos and will make them extra crispy if you request them too. They have a salsa bar and chips if you eat in. I've called in orders here and never had a problem. I used to go to the taco shop down the street which this area was known for, but slowly started to transition to coming here. If you're in the area give it a try despite what others may say. read more

This is my first time going here, I was surprised by the warm welcoming and awesome customer service. Tried other places around here and none have stood out like this one , this place deserves a 5 out of 5 . They even offered me a free coffee with my order of breakfast burritos. Eh, it's ok. Small Mexican grill, kinda dinky and in a rundown area. I mean, there was some guy pacing back and forth in front of the shop, who looked homeless and crazy, for the entire duration of when we arrived, then left. It's a distraction. The food here is ok. We got chips, that tasted stale. The salsa bar was pretty much empty, no one had replenished it. I got the El Patron Burrito, which for about $9, wasn't worth it. It was just very meaty and flour-y, and it lacked a lot of flavor. I won't be coming back here. Better to give my money else where. I was shopping at the supermarket across the street (which I recommend -- prices on everything is very competitive). I decided to get a couple of tacos for lunch, so I walked in to see their menu. After a few minutes I placed an order for a carnitas taco and an adoboda taco. They were quick on the preparation and I walked out in less than 6 or 7 minutes. I opened the food container and was pleasantly surprised. They gave me two full-sized tacos with a double tortilla, which was needed given the quantity of meat and filling. See pictures below. The adobada taco was prepared to perfection. The meat was ample and the guacamole and onions weren't overdone. I really dislike tacos with globs of guacamole, as I feel some taco places use it to compensate for the measly meat portion. Not the case here -- there was plenty of meat. The taste was great and I was satisfied. The carnitas taco was the same. Plenty of meat and just the right amount of guacamole and onions. My only issue, which is a very minor complaint, was that the carnitas weren't the traditional carnitas found in most restaurants. Instead, they used cubed pork meat. Under normal circumstances, I would be dissatisfied. But, given that they cooked the meat to perfection and seasoned it properly, I wasn't disappointed. I ate the entire thing and was very satisfied. If you're a carnitas aficionado, you might not like the carnitas taco. My advice would be to give it a chance. I thought the taco was delicious, regardless of how the prepared the carnitas. The people were friendly, but not overtly. The man who handed me my tacos was very pleasant and even shook my hand. I would definitely come back again for more tacos. In closing, some of the reviews below are a bit harsh. If your order is screwed up, ask them nicely to correct it. You'll find that you can resolve your issues easily if you show some respect. No one wants to be bonked on the head with a complaint. Be respectful and you'll get the service you believe you deserve. read more

What's up family, here we go ! First off walk into the restaurant look around I'm the only one here cool easy day right right! So walk up to the counter notice everyone doing they own thing cook not really cooking other guy on his phone and the lady is just like what ever! Never heard of charging to make a chimichanga but it's cool and pollo asada fries! Payed for the order right the dude was like we don't have paper to print the receipt say what!!!!!!!! Ok no problem just send it to my email! Here's where things start to go down hill! So at this point I'm just waiting and watching them cook and converse with each other! I notice first thing the cook just start pulling meat from a bucket of sort and cooking no biggy. Next thing I know a dude walks in looks as though he just came from work yells to the guy in the back in Spanish how's everything going can I use the bathroom! We've been ordering from here for the past couple of months. We even double tip the drivers every time. Well the past couple of orders have been bad. They keep forgetting the hot sauce. I had to update my review since its been awhile and things do change. They used to be known as Mi Ranchito but I guess they're under new ownership now. Thankfully they're just as good if not better than they were before. It's in "The Hood"! It's in South East San Diego. Skyline Hills. But don't worry their food is still good. I was really surprised how good their Carne Asada Burritos are here. Great flavor. Way better than "The Barrel" or anything for that matter near or far. Only Tacos El Gordo and TJ Oyster Bar can only be compared nearby. That said, they all are great in their own ways. San Diego has so many taco shops and this is just another good one. El Toro Mexican Grill does is right. From their great selection of crazy burritos, street tacos (only 99 cents on Taco Teusdays), Fish Tacos (Thursday), sopes (soups), and their carne asada fries are great!
