Hi, We just dined at Bayway location and I am very disappointed that management didn't send help to this location when one of the servers called out. Why are y'all trying to treat this location like they are the stepchildren? Like yall forgot about the restaurant, the staff and patrons?! Our poor server, Nikki, ran the whole place by herself. The other staff members helped, but she is the ONLY server. At one point, she had 10 tables by herself. Y'all have managers standing around at the Garth location, send one of them over. Shame on yall for taking advantage of your employees and abusing them like that. Y'all better pay Nikki for doing 2 servers job. She kicked ass. read more

Ah I love this location the most! Kinda of a regular in a weird way as I've been a customer at least twice a year for ten years. Mainly due to the fact that my ex-husband's family lives in the area and they're true regulars. However, they always, always, always remember how much I love cilantro and bring an extra bowl to the table for me. It's brought to the table without me even asking. Their homemade sauces are out of this world and perfect accent to homemade chips, tacos, fajitas and more. Tortilla soup is the best I've ever had. The reason why I put 1 star is because 1.) food was too salty and it was ok 2.) one waitress was complaining my family was to big for them to handle and it backed her up when literally the place looked dead, the other waitress kept slamming all of our food and rolling her eyes. Well I have to say their chips and salsa put my star rating down a notch or two. I judge most Mexican restaurants by this very important dish!! If I have bad chips and salsa, then it taints the rest of my experience. The wait staff was average - nothing exceptional. The service was very slow for there being very few patrons. The atmosphere was nice :) The actual food was good once we got it. A little greasy, but very tasty! It's just too bad the rest of it ruined it for me. Just had a bad experience at El Toro in Baytown off Bayway road. We were over charged for changes to our order. We normally don't get charged for certain items at other restaurants and the waiter didn't tell us of the additional charges. We want be going back to this location. read more

Food was great. The reason for the 2 stars is because they had one poor girl working as a waitress. She was so busy that it really was unfair. Apparently they are short staffed every Saturday, so I would recommend never to come on a Saturday. Not only was she the only waitress, she also had to be the hostess seating people AND work the cash register. I felt bad for her and I'll never return to this restaurant on a Saturday. read more

So they built this new El Toro in Baytown (Bleh why god why? it should be in Downtown Houston looking like this) and the damn place is absolutely gorgeous, fit for a King. You will understand if you go why i say it shouldn't be in Baytown..You would also think from the looks of the place the food would be expensive, but surprisingly the prices are extremely decent..They sure need some staff training. The service sucks so bad and it consistently sucks. I always feel forgotten, have to send food back to be remade or have to ask for something twice. This is probably the best restaurant in Baytown and they will always get regular and new customers despite their faults. The food is wonderful. I love everything on their menu and i can only say that for a handful of places..Everything from the salsa to the fajitas are great. If you can stand being ignored while eating out, they have great food but like i said- its a damn shame how they treat you. I am acquainted with the owners - the Ybarra family (they own many restaurants) and if they can see this PLEASE train your staff so your business will thrive to the maximum potential! read more

Wow, this place was great! I've been on the west side since November and up until now I haven't had a Mexican restaurant that I REALLY liked in this area. The decor is very modern and thought out very well. This is how it should be done. The menu is short but sweet and everything that came out of the kitchen that I tried was excellent. The chips, salsa, and queso were all top notch and yes the red salsa was quite spicy. The next time you are on the west side and want Mexican food this is where you need to go. read more

Best mexican food in Baytown. This old location has been feeding me since I was in the womb. I can never get enough of the sour cream chicken enchiladas or the delicious fajitas. You also can not beat the price compared to more "to-do" places like Pappasito's and Cadillac Bar. This place honestly has better food. The ambiance is great too, being a local restaurant you always run into familiar faces and in the right time it can be refreshing. I recommend this place to anyone visiting the Houston area, it is worth the drive into Baytown, or any of the other satellite locations. read more

El Toro has some really good red salsa for starters. The lunch special are reasonable, and all pretty tasty. The tortillas are not homemade, but the beef or chicken fajitas are really good and help make up for it. The rice an beans are also good and round off any meal nicely. I like this old location because it's quieter and you get better service here than the new fancy location on Garth Road. Food is actually better here in my opinion. The food is great, but the service was HORRIBLE. From the beginning, we told one of the waiters our checks were separated. In fact, it was repeated constantly. The other waitress accused us of never mentioning our checks were separate, when in fact, it was said it in the beginning. It was failure on the other male waiter's part for not communicating with the waitress that our checks were separate. Moreover, they did not write down the orders; thus, causing more confusion. Despite their mistakes -which they never took accountability for or apologize -my father still give a generous tip. Moreover, the waiter had the never to be a smart ass to my father. I used to be a waiter, and I admit my own mistakes. And while I know things happen, I usually give a tip. But this was ridiculous. Attitude, disrespect, and mistakes, hell no! We are never going there again. There are other El Toro places with the same food, but higher quality service. Avoid this place! Go to the one on Garth or Decker, but not this shit hole. This review is only about the brunch. I cant speak for the rest of the menu, but the brunch specifically the breakfast bowl is unbeatable. It is enough to feed two and tastes amazing. Also if you order off the brunch menu you get a free mimosa which is large and very good. The price is cheap i think everything on the brunch menu is under $9. The bloody marys are also very good. The inside is very nice and modern, but I usually enjoy my brunch outside on the patio. Cant say enough good things about this place. read more

Went there for lunch today- I was absolutely unimpressed. 1) Chips and Salsa were awful. I don't think they even make their own chips, which is sad for a Mexican restaurant in Houston. Red salsa was very off-putting, too heavy on the tomato flavors, no real spice, very pasty. 2) Fajitas were over cooked, and portions were tiny. Guacamole was awful, no pico came with it, and the shredded cheese tasted rank. 3) tortillas looked and tasted like cardboard, once again, it was obvious they don't even make their own tortillas there. Consistency of tortillas was tough, and dry. 4) Queso was terrible- tasted like cheese whiz. This place is horrible, and they should be ashamed to serve food like that in a city full of fantastic mexican food. I'll never go back. read more

First of all my comment to Jessica K and her bleh comment about it being in Baytown: This is a Baytown based - home grown business and I am insulted by your comment. There are three in Baytown. They expanded to LaPorte, Clute, and Palestine. The food is excellent. Service top notch. They have the best fajitas around. The newest one in Baytown on Garth is always packed. The oldest and original on the west side of Baytown still retains a lot of its older look, but to the locals that doesn't seem to matter. Their chips are incredible. The red and green sauce are spectacular. I recommend adding their queso - especially with fajita meat. It is by far the best in Baytown. A location in downtown might be good, but please don't insult my hometown in your review. You are talking about the restaurant - not the town. Ok so I have a long History with El Toro. There are several locations in the area and as a 14 yr old I bussed tables at one of them. I have eaten at most of the locations many times in my life. Being that this Bayway location is right up the road from work( less tan 5 minutes)it is a place we often get take out from. First the high lights. Great red salsa and chips. The fajita meat used in dishes is alway flavorful and tender. Now the low lights. Prices have went up way too much. This is not a fancy places and it serves typical Tex mex out of an old building. They have decided to start charging upscale mexican prices though. Expect to pay 9 bucks for a regular ground meat burrito platter or a passable ground meat taco salad. Really almost 10 bucks for a Taco salad? Anyway so Monday night around 8pm we order like 7 meals to go. The place was dead and so it looks like they were looking to close early as they were cleaning up well before closing time. The orders were correct but in each meal that had guacamole it was black. I know this won't hurt you but considering how many meals we ordered you would think they could have made some fresh is what they had on hand had gone south. Very unappetizing and how could you send that out to a customer. The Taco salad was ok with not a lot of lettuce and plenty of meat and beans but was way to soggy(think you could drain the meat some so it is not a soggy leaky mess?). It was topped with black guacamole and there was no sour cream? The Fajita nachos were good and had plenty of meat to go along with the black guac. I see this place going down hill over the last few years. I think they are concentrating on their new "Big Fancy" location across town and letting this one go south. read more

First of all, Jessica's review is of the El Toro on Garth, though the address here says Bayway. There are three locations, and the mammoth on Garth is definitely a different vibe. I haven't been to it very often, because I prefer the more casual, intimate feel of the others. That being said, the few times I did go, I had excellent service. Twice I had the same guy, and having three young kids, the waiters are not always happy to see me coming. He was great with them, and remembered our orders without writing them down (like many better waiters), including little details (no tomatoes, etc.). Maybe I just got lucky. I did have bad service once in the bar area. Anyway, the original El Toro is on Bayway, and it is like 50 years old or something. Very small, and not much to look at, but I like it. Same goes for the location on Decker. Bigger than Bayway, but similar decor. If you want a fancy place, go to the Garth location. If you want good food without all the fuss, stick to the original two. Best enchiladas in town. read more

Best El Toros of the lot. Garth Rd. location is snobby and the food and wait staff are terrible. Decker Dr. location has been going downhill, but THIS location is by far the best most un-bastardized of the lot. The food is amazing compared to the other locations. its a bit smaller, but I will gladly give up ambience for great food. it seems that this location still clings to the original recipes and cooking style that made El Toros such a great place to eat in the first place. Not only that, the waitstaff here seem more mature and hospitable. Definitely more of a warm welcoming family-run vibe here. I love it. read more
