Wish they could do to-go margaritas during the CoVid mess! I miss that and the chips and queso!!!

This review is only for the Chori Pollo. Everything else is pretty meh. Typical Minnesota Mexican boringness. But the Chori Pollo is transcendental. Its a seasoned and grilled chicken breast topped with Mexican chorizo and smothered in queso sauce and served with warm tortillas, rice and beans. The queso can be hit or miss texture wise but always tastes great. If you live in the area they often have coupons in the mail and on the back of register receipts. Their beer is cheap but the margaritas should be skipped. read more

One of the reasons I moved to Brooklyn Park! In all seriousness, El Toro is wonderful. Clean, nice servers, great food at an amazing price that can't be beat! Food lacks seasoning(garlic, cumin, chili's) and the chimichangas were soggy and the roast beef in them was dry. All of our food was over priced and bland. read more

Great place to go for inexpensive, fairly authentic, delicious Mexican food. I love the white sauce they bring with the chips and salsa. I've never ordered anything there I haven't liked. Really attentive waitstaff, great prices and excellent quality food. read more

We stopped in here for dinner today and the place was pretty busy, so I always take that as a good sign. The chips and salsa were pretty decent as were our meals. They have pretty normal prices for what you get, 2 people can easily eat here for $20.00 or so. Service is pretty quick and friendly. This may have got 4 stars but both of our refried beans were served cold, not even room temperature which was kinda not cool, they were also way too runny. I'm not big on sending stuff back though so I didn't say anything. I will give this place another shot someday though. My chimichanga's were actually pretty good. read more

This is one of the better Mexican places in the north metro. The food is very consistent, service is prompt, and the drinks are excellent. My only complaint is I wish there food had more heat (I know, we live in Minnesota) or there were more authentic options. read more

4-6-2018 i had a to go order that took ALMOST an hour to get. I will NOT be going back. Worst service ever. It has been getting slower as time goes on....BAD place with people that do not care. Not only that, but they take the phone off the hook so you cannot call in your to go order. read more

The food here is very reasonably priced. The food is average Mexican fare. The service is what I find to be the big disappointment. The last two times I've eaten here my party has had the wrong food delivered. Beef enchiladas were on the vegetarian plate, cheese enchiladas delivered when beef was ordered. I have been here at least 10 times and I really want to like it because it is so close! The food is so mediocre, not pretty to look at and I just don't like it. I take my 2 teens and younger one here because they like the jarrito mexican pop and chile con queso. I was just there again on Monday and the cheese dip was runny so I sent it back. It looked like creamy colored water. He brought out a new bowl saying that it was freshly made and would thicken soon. Of course it never did. The Chimichanga didn't appear to be deep fried and is limp and pale in color. read more

Had the #1 lunch special; chile relleno, beef taco, refried beans and guac salad and it was amazing, as usual. As always the service was phenomenal. I'm not sure what some of the complaints are about but we've always gotten great service and great food when we've been there. read more

I love El Toro. I think the one in Shakopee tastes better though. It's the closest to authentic tasting Mexican food that I've had in the area. They also give you warm tortilla chips, salsa, and Mexican ranch to start with.. one of my favorite parts! So far we haven't had anything we haven't liked. Our last visit the service was a little slower than usual, however, other than that one time the service has always been great, friendly and quick.The prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get and they have good drink specials. read more

We have been eating here for years but our experience tonight has changed our mind. We called in a to go order, it took them multiple times to get it right, or so we thought. After getting home they forgot a burrito, no rice with our entree and even forgot to give us chips. When we called back and told them about it the girl we were taking to thought she put us on hold but didn't and we heard her basically call us liars. Finally talked to what we think was a manager and he said to come in and get what we were missing. When I got there they questioned me again, even though they could have looked at the order and verified it. I even said if it was not actually on the order I would pay for it. She did not even look and handed me a bill for the burrito we already paid for. I gave up and just left. Seriously, all that for a bag of chips, a side of rice and an a la carte $5 burrito. I've been here multiple times, and it's always excellent. The white dip is exceptional! The salsa is very good. The portions are huge, and I always have leftovers. The carnitas dinner is very flavorful. The staff is always friendly. read more

Food is pretty solid and prices are right. Service is with a smile but can be a little slow. Similar issue as almost all Mexican restaurants, too many items on the menu making it very tough to decide but haven't been disappointed yet. Would definitely go back. read more

Went here with my office colleagues for lunch. Nothing great about the decor but there were ok. You are immediately given some nachos/Chips which were probably the best thing about this place. All the food we ordered lacked flavour and any kind of spice. It was bland as it can get. Out Server and service was so poor , she showed lot of animosity for some reason. We are visiting from Texas and understand that the food won't taste the same as In the south but this was awful. Also, the service was the worst I've had in a long time. The waitress didn't write anything down and all our orders were wrong. Lesson learned- don't eat Mexican food in Minnesota. read more

If I was going based off just service, I would have given them a one. I have been here at least 20 times and every time I have gotten terrible service. But I keep going back for the cheap tacos, margaritas, and free chips & salsa. They are amazing! read more

El Toro catered my holiday party - it was awesome and authentic. The Mexican food was cleaned out while my cheese and veggie tray was untouched. The pricing for 20 people was amazing too - shockingly low for all the food I got! My order included tamales, taquitos, rice, beans, chips, and salsa. I will do this again for sure! read more

We have been pretty regular customers at El Toro. It was recommended by a family friend. The food is very good and the prices are reasonable but the service has become spotty to terrible and today we finally told the cashier we would not return. They did not offer to reduce our bill and that was not our intent. The cashier did apologize and she was not the cause of the bad service. I am unsure why anyone that talks about a Mexican restaurant feels the need to speak about it's authenticity. If you didn't enjoy the food because of it's authenticity, I have a feeling that you probably have a hard time enjoying anything at all. Bottom line is, it's busy because: The food is delicious. The service is fast and friendly. The pricing is very reasonable. Love it! We've enjoyed everything we gotten here. There are so many choices and combinations. I don't know how "authentic" it is, but I don't know what authentic Mexican food really is either. I just know that when I need some good Mexican food to satisfy my hunger, this is my place. It's definitely better than other Mexican restaurants (like Don Pablo's and Ol' Mexico) we've gone to that charge way more. Not an expert on 'authentic' Mexican food, but I was well pleased with El Toro. Service ok- friendly but English lacking a bit. The obligatory chips and salsas (two) were excellent- warm and fresh tasting. Chicken fajitas cost more than they used to but still excellent quality/value with plenty for a second or third meal. I tried the moharra frita (fried whole tilapia ), served with rice, slabs of avocado, lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream. Very fun to eat and ok flavor, but from frozen not fresh. Gripe: Ordered a Negra Modelo- thought it was on tap. Came in a bottle for $4.75. Way to much for a 12 oz bottle of beer. I hate beer prices at restaurants. Note to owners: Lower beer prices and I may just buy more than one! read more

I had never been to El Toro before. My dining mate had previously visited and told me it wasn't his favorite. We visited anyway because it was getting late on a Friday evening and we really wanted a little taste of Mexican food. The chicken quesadilla was canned chicken and I was very disappointed. I love good Mexican food and was really hoping that this place would be decent. I thank some god I ordered a big margarita with my meal because after taking one bite of my food, I needed that drink to get me through the let down. I don't think someone could have paid me to eat more than one bite of my shredded pork, which had a rubbery texture and wasn't seasoned at all. It seems that synthetic sauces were heavily relied upon to "season" the food. The cheese was processed and oil was dripping off of everything on my plate. Ingredients had been frozen, the rice was dry, the refried beans had probably been lounging in a tub in the back for 3 months. The service was fine. The flies that came with our table did not go unnoticed. All in all, it was a disappointment and not at all real authentic Mexican cuisine. It was closer to Americanized half-assed Mexican thrown together by someone half drunk to feed those who don't know what authentic Mexican cuisine involves. read more

Excellent food and very authentic. Love the white sauce with the chips! The margaritas are a little pricey, but the food is very reasonable. If you order carryout, do so from your car in the parking lot because the food will be ready in 2 minutes. read more

Suburban Mexican food at its worst. I feel bad that I spent money there but had to give it a try after moving to the neighborhood. There are so many options for Mexican in Minneapolis and St. Paul that are cheaper and easily surpass the quality of El Toro. Take some time and venture out a bit to really try Mexican cuisine. read more

El Toro has great food and a fun atmosphere. The service is not always the best, so know that going in....just expect good food!

Authentic or not authentic I couldn't tell you for sure but the food is good, the service is great and the price is right. Our kids love it. read more
