Absolutely recommend El Trio Loco, it's been two weeks and I'm still dreaming about their fish tacos. I am always skeptical of ordering seafood tacos, but the fish was cooked to perfection, it was succulent and nicely seasoned. The quality of all the ingredients were so fresh. The pickings for restaurants are slim in Rockaway, so we took our chances with El Trio Loco. The reviews looked promising. However, the food did not meet expectations. My daughter got the enchiladas mole, which the sauce was sweet, tasted like a barbecue sauce. My husband and I each got the carne asada burritos, which did not have a lot of flavor. Service was good, portions were good for the price. The other weird thing was that the serving staff tried to get my daughter to eat more...who does that? The quesabirrias were just okay. Not bad but nothing special. The margaritas were strong which I appreciated. The service was really nice and they checked up on us frequently, which made the experience better. Overall, it wasn't the best Mexican food I've had but with limited options in Rockaway Beach it's a solid choice. read more

Me and two friends went out to eat here this Saturday night, the evening started out weird because we asked the server what dish she recommended and she said she likes all of them. We asked her which enchiladas she would recommend and she said all of them again and scurried away. It was a bit weird because most servers will just recommend something and it felt like she just didn't want to take the time with us. I looked through the menu and the food is listed with everything it brings in or on it, so I looked at the nachos and saw that some didn't have beans. I don't like refried beans so I made sure to pick the deluxe nachos that didn't list refried beans on them. When I get my food it's covered in refried beans. I told the server that I picked those nachos because the menu doesn't list beans on the nachos. I told her I'm so sorry but could she please exchange them. She was very nice and got me new nachos without refried beans. My friend got the burrito loco and she said it was so salty that it was inedible. My other friend tried it and said oh my goodness that's insane amount of salt, no one can eat that. My friend had eaten some of the rice and beans and about 3 bites of the burrito at this point. When the server came to check on us my friend informed her about the burrito, the server asked her if she could get her anything else, but by this time she had already split food with my other friend and was full, so she said no thanks, she just didn't want it. The server looked very annoyed and took the plate away. When the bill came, guess what was on it? The burrito of course. My friend asked the server why she was being charged for something that she didn't eat and was too salty to eat. The server said she would ask the manager and see if they could take it off. A few minutes later the owner Adelaido Bautista comes to our table with a very angry look on his face and very aggressively says I heard you didn't like your food. I'm not taking it off, I'll just charge you half price. My friend says, I didn't eat it though, because it was so salty that no one could eat that. He said, the server said you ate half of the burrito. We told him the burrito had been cut in half because both of my friends were planning on sharing their meals to try a bit of each meal, but the entire burrito minus 3 bites were there. He raised his voice to us and very angrily said it doesn't matter we would learn today that this is a serious restaurant and the bill will stay as is. I told him this is not how he should treat people and he said I hear you and the bill stays the same. People were staring at us in the restaurant because he was so angry and agitated and when he left our server came back and I asked her why he was being so rude to us. She ignored me and said are you guys ready to pay? I told her why are you just ignoring me and she stayed quiet. This is the worst service I've ever gotten in my life and only 1 out of 3 dishes was good. The chicken nachos I got had dry under seasoned chicken and the burrito was over salted. If you want to be served mediocre food, get treated like garbage when you complain about it, and pay for horrible food that you didn't eat because of how terrible it was, then you should try this restaurant. If you actually want to enjoy your vacation and not deal with rude people like Adelaido then steer clear! Sand Dollar, Big Schaun's Smash Burgers, and Grump's Cafe have delicious food and amazing service. Thankfully these other restaurants were so amazing that the horrible experience at Trio Loco didn't ruin our trip. read more

Absolutely loved this place! There's something about a slight language barrier that makes me excited for international cuisine. We were greeted and seated immediately upon arrival. And the complimentary chips and salsa were close behind. Our server was very helpful when it came to ordering food and drinks and the food was delivered to our table in no time. Decided to go to El Trio Loco in Rockaway Beach on Cinco de Mayo for dinner--not surprisingly, the place was a bit if a zoo when we walked in. The wait staff was just short of being in the weeds with clearing tables and bringing drinks hither and yon, but held things together enough to get us seated, and then some menus and our food. The menu is extensive--lots of off-the-beaten-path Mexican specialties (I think I saw an octopus dish on the menu--didn't order!). No carnitas, though. We ordered enchiladas--chile verde and chicken mole--and though it was plentiful and well-cooked, the dishes were surprisingly bland. We ate here twice while on vacation . The first time we got chicken flautas. These were amazing! Chicken & cheese with guacamole cheese & lettuce . So good ! Comes with a lot ! We also got the Pollo Asada Y Mas this was a charbroiled marinated chicken breast with chili rellanos. This had so much flavor & was super tender . Very good ! The prices are good too ! The 2nd time we ate here . I got a shredded beef enchilada with a chimichanga with rice & beans . All was delicious & super filling ! Love the enchilada sauce . We ordered the chicken fajitas and 3 enchilada plate. We waited 15 minutes to order which is standard. Did not get water for another 15 minutes or chips and salsa. During dinner, asked for more chips and salsa later in the evening, did not get that. We asked for napkins during dinner did not get that. Never received the flower tortillas with the fajitas. Mexican food along the Coast seems to basically taste the same. Here, it's the familiar red sauce, iceberg lettuce, cheap chips out of the bag, and horrible watery salsa experience. I could barely tell the difference between the Chile Relleno, enchilada, and tamale. Our togo order was executed in a very reasonable amount of time. And prices seem fair. Actually, seafood commanded the highest prices, so maybe that's their specialty and what I should have ordered. Employees seem very friendly. read more

It was everything in my power to give the place a 2nd chance and try ordering the items we liked but now this. This is a cute little restaurant in an adorable little town. We were greeted immediately when we entered. We chose a booth and were brought chips and salsa pretty quickly. The chips were good but the salsa a little disappointing. It's okay, just not great. We are vegan so we asked the server if the refried beans were made with lard. They are. There was a bit of a language barrier but I speak a little Spanish and let them know that I was looking for vegan options. We were reviewing the small vegetarian section at the back of the menu. Presently a gentleman came and offered vegan fajitas with tofu. Since they were so nice, and really trying to be helpful, I went ahead and ordered that. My husband ordered a vegetarian nacho with no cheese or sour cream. When the food came out, unfortunately, they both had the refried beans. They took the food back and we waited again. When my husband's came back for the second time it was with the wrong kind of beans, black instead of pinto as ordered. When my came back it came with rice which we had ascertained contained chicken stock so I couldn't eat that. I finally asked for my lettuce, tomato and guac portion and that was delivered quickly. We had a side order of guacamole and it was delicious and perfect! I would give them 4 stars for effort. But these days most restaurants use vegetable oil in their beans and there were so many problems I think "average" is appropriate. read more

This is 5 visits in one review! Rockaway is our new favorite beach getaway since we relocated to Happy Valley at the end of 2021. Naturally, my goal is to eat at every places in Rockaway and Tillamock to find our spots. We first visited El Trio Loco III in August 2022, I was shocked to see Mojarra Frita on the menu! For me, it's not an authentic Mexican restaurant unless Mojarra Frita is on the menu; so you betcha I got to have it!!!!! The Mojarra Frita was everything I expected: freshly crispy, big, and cooked just right. I love tons of lime on mine so I asked for extra twice and Victor, our waiter was so accommodating! Since I was told they made their Fresca in house, I ordered all three on menu: horchata, jamaica, and tamarind. All three drinks were so good, not too sweet which is how I prefer it. My husband got their Trio Platter Combo with beef, pork, and chicken. His portion was hug. We came back for Thanksgiving, and could you get what I ordered, hahaha, and you were right: mojarra frida, horchata, and their 7 seafood soup. The broth was homemade tasty, the mojarra frita was on point, and horchata with just the right amount of sweetness! My husband got the combo fajita this time and loved it. For this year Christmas, we stayed for 5 nights and Rockaway, ate here twice, and ordered horchata to go daily. For Christmas Eve lunch, Jose was our server and he was so patience with how much extra lime I asked for my mojarra frita because the lime was a bit dried with not much juice in them. My hubby stuck with his favorite which was combo fajita and asked for no shrimp this time since they wrapped them in bacon which was tasty but he watched his fat consumption. He said he was happy with his choice because it was consistently good. I kept telling myself to order other choices on the menu but it was always hard to strayed from my favorite go to at Mexican restaurant, the mojarra frita! I wish they have ceviche on the menu, but I totally understand why they don't since Rockaway beach is not the most popular location on Oregon coast. So can you tell if mojarra frita is what you crave and want, then this is the place for it when you come to this area of the Oregon's coast! Horchata, Jamaica, and Tamarind Fresca are always refreshing to order, especially for your drive wherever your destination takes you. Finally, their name suggested three locations; we saw one which I think it's the original while drove through Manzanita and planned to give it a go next time we get to the coast.
