The food is good from what my group said . Mine was good just a basics fish sandwich The service was decent the waiter checked on us and filled waters when low . For me the problem was the portion size compared to the price. If I am will to pay the price of a fish sandwich then I expect a big piece of fish and more than 17 fries ( I counted mine ) . David Jennifer C. has made accusations and claims that are incorrect without any real knowledge of our dissatisfaction of our dinning experience earlier this month while In Manzanita,Oregon at Big Wave Cafe. He has accused me of not responding to his attempt made to contact me. I did generate a reply to the message via Yelp I received within approximately forty-eight hours of his written message posted. In my reply I suggested, to him that he might as an owner spend more time and energy on presentation of food served at his eatery. I also added that he might want to consider the quality of the food offered. He claims he gave me an opportunity to retract my review, that the restaurant would make my food once again if I had informed them of my disgust and that I ate my meal in mostly its entirety. This is his claim. Certainly was not my experience, nor what I perceived to be the case. My response was generated timely, concisely, and above all accurately. It in fact was my experience. I had no intention of retracting my original review generated. It was in fact the experience I had. I found food to be under cooked, and this may in fact be a on off. The young lady that greeted us was friendly and bright. Service was quick. Food - one crispy halibut sandwich with side salad and one crispy chicken sandwich with fries - was exceptional (how often can you say that about a sandwich?) Fries were yummy, too. My grandma and I both just a clam chowder bread bowl-rookie mistake, they were so big we could have just shared one XD the prices are on the higher side, but when you see the portions it makes sense lol. We were on a little road trip on the Oregon coast and wanted to stop for some seafood! We stopped at big wave cafe! My husband got the catch of the day and I had the crab cakes. The cod sandwich was absolutely FRESH AND DELICIOUS! The fish was flaky and the bun very soft. The crab cakes were not my favorite. They had an extremely fishy flavor. I took one bite and couldn't finish them :( . While the crab cakes were not fresh the sever was great and took Them off the bill. I can appreciate great customer service and they had that. Food was amazing, tasty and unexpectedly delicious. Servicer was friendly but oblivious, guess we sat at an invisible table. Once seated we were passed by numerous times while trying in vain to get water, order and pay the bill. We sat watching our food sit on the pass for a good five minutes before it was finally delivered, downside of a nearly empty restaurant I presume. Sitting on the manzanita side of 101 it's an easy place to pass by, which we had done for years. As far as character goes there is nearly none inside or out. Prices are steep, food is handmade to order, fresh and well prepared. Happy we were not in a rush to go anywhere. Would I go back, maybe to see if they were having an off day and had more seasoned wait staff on hand in the summer season. Won't be in a hurry to return. read more

When you walk in the door, you are greeted by signs indicating all the local businesses where Big Wave sources their fish and other ingredients. It set a great tone for our lunch. The restaurant is on 101 and has ample parking, and while the interior isn't special, it has a mix of booths, large tables, and stools at the counter. The food and service were great during our visit. Our party ordered halibut sandwiches and the daily special which was a Ling Cod sandwich. The standard side are fries, but a couple of us upgraded to a side salad (enjoyed the marionberry vinaigrette) and chowder. Coffee is by local roaster, Sleepy Monk, and they had a nice selection of other drinks. This was a restaurant I've passed so many times as I make the turn to Manzanita, so I was happy to finally give them a new try. New ownership team this year and it was a place I would definitely return. read more

This is a great little place we found through Yelp. We were staying in Rockaway and wanted to take our son-in-law out to dinner someplace different. We are always up for trying something good. This place is terrific. It's family owned. The son (sorry, didn't get his name) greeted us and sat us and was our server. Great service all around. Great food. I had the prawns and they were excellent. Both husband and SIL were happy with their dinners also. It was loud as there was an adult birthday party next to us, but that's OK. We like this place so much that we brought our daughter when she visited. Again, great service and food. Service can be a little slow but very personable and we weren't in a hurry and wanted to enjoy our experience. The server apologized but there was no need. Will go again when in the area. read more

Found this place after waiting +20 minutes at the Bunkhouse Cafe to even put an order in. We were greeted by the friendly staff immediately and were seated quickly. Very friendly, easy access from Highway 101. We always try pan fried oysters and have done it from southern Washington down through most of Oregon's coast. Big wave is the absolute best. We finished with Marionberry pie and ice cream...house made, amazing! We will be back. read more

After a day filled with activities we decided to come here for a late lunch, early dinner. Glad they are open throughout the day. Wasn't busy at all when we arrived, good amount of parking that shares with a weed dispensary. Friendly greetings as we entered and sat us at a comfy booth and off we went. We decided to get a few sandwiches to share between us, we got.... Halibut Sandwich: fried up perfectly, huge halibut that hung over the bun because we all love that, panko crust was awesome! Hot Club House: hot as in temperature and spicy! Was a honker of a sandwich and very good! Ham & Cheese with Bacon, spicy jalapenos, lettuce, tomato on a tasty ciabatta. I'm ok with my sandwich getting messy after getting into it. I will note that their fries are REALLY good, probably one of the best I've had in a long time. Super crisp, seemed to be double fried and that's what I'm about! Definitely no leftovers on our end which means we were pretty full and didn't partake in dessert. Overall, the food was really good. It was fresh and tasty. But it was the smallest portions I have ever seen. I paid $26 for a Caesar salad with salmon. Which isn't a bad price but the flavor was okay. If I am paying that much, I do expect a bit more. They only think it has, it tastes fresh. I had add salt, pepper and some lemon to help the little fish out. My little sister had the chicken sandwich and it was apparently the best chicken sandwich she ever had. The service was good. The Big Wave Café looked promising -- it was raining on a weekday, and they had a significant wait for tables -- we figured that was a good sign. We got pan fried oysters, house salads, and bowls of clam chowder. The oysters were pretty good. But the clam chowder was disappointing (too thick, not enough clams, little flavor) and the salad -- well, not a high light. I'm sure they do some things well, but our experience was decidedly poor. We didn't finish the salads or the chowder. The oysters were good, but not good enough that we'd risk trying other things on the menu. We won't be going back. read more

A great place with great people! Big Wave Cafe gets pretty busy not only because it's one of the few restaurants for miles, but also because the food is spectacular. Parking is shared with another establishment, but there is just enough for the amount of seating in the restaurant. We did have to wait and put our names in, but were seated after about 5 minutes. The staff are so polite and friendly. They want to make sure that you're loving the food and service. I ordered the rueben which I never order, but wow does it pack a punch. There was a ton of meat and it tasted oh so good. Not to mention, the food came out fast, was fresh and hot. The prices are a bit more expensive, but the portions are nice and big. Wow! It's been a long time since I've had such a great meal out. First, the staff was so welcoming and friendly. They do not take reservations, and I was a little nervous, as it was a Saturday during the holidays, but they got us right in. Then, a group of 16 came in, and we wondered if that was going to impact the service. Nope-they were on it! Our drinks were kept full, our orders taken promptly and our food delivered quickly and hot. I got the seafood salad-everything was delicious! 2 of our party got the fish & chips, one the Captain's Platter, and one the halibut sandwich. Everything was fresh & tasty! The restaurant was also comfortable. Often times we find restaurants to be chilly, but the temperature was perfect. The booth was comfy, and the atmosphere was nice but not stuffy. I've been a part time resident of the Oregon coast for years and it's been a while since I've eaten here. First off, my server was fabulous and so sweet! I had the Razor Clams, a cup of clam chowder and fries with broccolini. It was all very delicious and the razor clams were cooked nice and tender with well seasoned panko breading. The fries were crunchy and hot. I'm not a broccoli fan unless it's roasted and crispy, but that's just me. I highly recommend this place. Absolutely the worst meal I've ever had! My husband and I went there to celebrate our 55th wedding anniversary and ordered the prime rib. The quality of meat was not good. It was long and less than 1\2 inch thick! I ordered mine medium and it was beyond well done. It was it so tough and flavorless, it was inedible. Unfortunately I had to bring it home for the dog. My husband ordered medium rare and it was well done. Such a disappointment to celebrate a special occasion!! I will never be back and have warned my Rock away neighbors.
