We use to venture to Oakland, but with our location closing we were commissioned to find a new go to. For over ten years, Taqueria Morena has been our go to spot for burritos. Yes, the prices have definitely increased, the quality has remained which is why we continue to pay. Our orders are always placed over the phone for pickup and accurate when received. The portions are insanely massive and serve as two meals for me. Rarely can I eat a single burrito in one sitting. It's a Shrimp burrito ($18.50) for me with black beans (and extra black beans to replace the rice) made Wet ($2.00) with verde (green) sauce. The shrimp are jumbo and plentiful with a piece included in almost every bite. My hubby's go to is a Super burrito ($15.00) with steak ($1.25) and black beans. You can add extra steak for an additional $1.25. The amount of steak already included is a lot. He finishes his entire burrito without looking to snack after. The restaurant itself is clean, well maintained and spacious inside with plenty of seating. I believe we ate there once on a whim. The service was fast, friendly and accurate. Even when we do phone orders for pickup the staff on the phone and in person are friendly. Taqueria Morena is in a shopping center (at the top to your left upon entering) so there is ample parking. It can get crowded, rarely, so front door parking is not always an optional. I definitely recommend Taqueria Morena. We bring family and friends to grab a bite when they are craving a burrito close to home. There is now the option of online ordering, service fees are included with your order so I've stuck with phone orders. Phone orders are ready in 10-15 minutes (usually) unless they are super busy. Our orders are ready when we arrive within the time provided for pickup. I'm so grateful we did not allow others experiences to influence our first try. We would have missed out. read more

Taqueria Morena serves up Mexican food just the way I like it! The cheese enchilada was nice and gooey with more than one kind of cheese and the perfect sauce which is red with chilis but not killer spicy. My bean tostada was loaded with beans, lettuce, finely shredded white cheese, crema sauce and some great guacamole. Everything was generous including the complimentary chips and 3 kinds of salsa. The silverware and plate were solid, not disposable. The front of house person was friendly and efficient. The dining area has pretty murals and a couple of TVs but no loud music. I ordered the birria sandwich- not appetizing at all. The rice was ridiculously mushy and tasteless. My wife got a pupusa and it was very not appetizing she took two bites and threw it away. Overall the quality is low and the customer service is horrible. I think the man that was running the show was rude. I arrived and ordered and paid while we waited I'm assuming the owner arrived with a group of ppl assuming more of his family and they received their food first and idk why they were mugging. The food was served slowly, the Mexican food didn't even have pickled peppers, and the taste was just average.

In the past (maybe) eight months, I've been here three times. Once just to buy a drink to get change for the laundrymat next door. The second time with my child. We purchased a quesadilla for her and just guacamole and chips for me. Quesadilla was a generous size. However it was bland and the texture was a bit hard to the bite, not very appetizing. The guacamole was not bad. At my most recent trip this week, I decided to try other menu items and ordered a few things for my family's dinner (carnitas super burrito, ground beef enchiladas and the birria taco plate). Again the food looked delicious but was bland, no real flavor. The birria was decent, I would have it again. Also as with my other visits, the lady at the front who took my order acted as if I was wasting her time. She obviously looked as if she rather be somewhere else. She always looks upset. It's unfortunate because this place has a pretty good location with a lot of visibility. MORENA TACOS - our new favorite local taqueria thanks to door dash for the recommendation! They are ready for Covid . They have all the tape for social distancing and they have plexi glass as well at the cashier. My daughters love their vegetarian tacos they come with Spanish rice and super flavorful! I usually order the carnitas tacos with cilantro and onion or crispy with cheese. Both ways are delicious and they have a winning recipes. Highly recommend them if you're in Pinole. My family wanted Mexican food and we found this place just a short drive from my daughter's home. We first ordered their pupusa meal. This meal comes with a pair of pupusa with pork inside. You sprinkle them with cabbage on top and when you take that bite, it tastes so good. The pork was soft and the pupusa taste like it came out of the pan. I tasted the Salvadorean pupusa before and this one is right there on the top. It also came along with rice and beans The tamale meal is also good. The corn husk is thick and the chicken in between has a big portion. You'll love this meal if you have tamale as your favorite meal. Their wet burrito is something else. It was served with a sauce scattered on top of the burrito. It replaces the salsa that we usually ask to top off the burrito. When you add some hot sauce to it, that will make the burrito perfect. Burrito is so huge that it'll take me both lunch and dinner to finish the whole thing. Our family enjoyed the meal we ordered and was satisfied that we found this place for a Mexican food fix. This place is the truth. I lived in LA for 15 years (grew up here in the bay area) and the one thing I miss most is the authentic Mexican food that my bestie's mama used to make. Met the owner Beto and he's a chill dude. He's got the aunties in the kitchen hooking it up. I've had their enchiladas, burritos and tacos, as well as the elote tamales. My kid LOVES their birria tacos and especially the birria grilled cheese (a once-a-week requirement to keep her happy ). The service is amazing and the environment is pleasant. I go here regularly, the staff from day one has been courteous. They offer a cozy dine in area with multiple screens usually displaying sports or reality games in multiple languages. The walls are painted in a scenic mural of lakes and mountains, and there is a bar on the side for solo patrons such as myself. They have a restroom and there is free WiFi from an adjacent laundry facility. As far as food goes they have a great veggie burrito that's honestly hard to finish in one sitting for a price that doesn't make you have to cheap out on leaving a good tip. read more

Ran in for a quick burrito on my way home and they refuse to serve me. They said they were closed even though it was only 8:45. I pointed out that they didn't close until 9, and they had told me that since that was in 15 minutes, they had already shut everything down and decided to close early. I was able to run down the street to Taqueria Maria in The Hilltop Plaza by the movie theater, and they got me in and out in 5 minutes no problem. Passed by so many times & for some reason never gave it a try just cause i didn't think they'd be good for no real reason, but other day we came and my burrito was AMAZING. We walked in and they were ready to take our order. My fiancé had recently got his wisdom teeth pulled and was asking if Birria would be a good option for him to be soft. The lady was so nice and let him sample the meat. I can't remember the last time a restaurant would actually do that. The birria was delicious too!!! Hella flavorful!!! So he definitely got that. I got the Mexicali which is basically a steak and shrimp burrito. And even though its $13, it was totally worth it!!!!!!!! The shrimps were NOT small and the burrito was big. Ordered takeout through Doordash. The burrito with shredded beef was decent, but the enchiladas was rather disappointing. For the price, you'd think you'll at least get free chips. I paid extra for chips, and it was in a takeout plastic bag. I also paid extra for guacamole, but but it lacks seasoning. The enchiladas' tortilla was a little too firm for my liking, and lacks cheese, There's no play in the flavor or anything like that. Flavor is very one-dimensional. Taqueria Morena could get a bit pricey, but I still enjoyed their super burrito. I ended up halfing one with my mom and was pretty satisfied. I would recommend ordering a side of guac and throwing on some salsa too. Be careful with that hot salsa, it's pretty spicy! I got a couple drops on my hands when opening the plastic container and could not hang. Chips are not free and there is no salsa bar, but they'll give you as much salsa as you like. There are a couple taquerias to choose from in the area, but I opted with Taqueria Morena because of their convenient location off the freeway and parking. This has been a restaurant I've been going too for maybe ten plus years. Today I had one of the most unpleasant experiences during my lunch break today. Imagine ordering $15 worth of food in a Mexican restaurant and not getting chips, to make matter worst you see someone in front of you spend $8.0 in cash and receive free chips. Apparently the policy they have set is if one spends $10 in cash you get free chips, but if you use a card you have to pay for chips... Don't you think maybe an order taker should bring that up while am individual is ordering? I guess not. Lol okay I see what we're doing here so I paid the dollar for chips and gave a 1.75 for tips b/c obviously money is tight around these parts. We've never had a bad meal in the past few years (2 or so) that we've been coming here. Sometimes we order delivery through one of the services, sometimes we take it to go, but we always enjoy what the lovely ladies prepare for us! Our favorites: 1. Chicken flautas with tons of salsa (spicy or medium depending!), plus if you can eat dairy-- sour cream 2. The basic burrito meat cheese beans and rice. Big enough for 2 meals unless you're ravenous, especially if you get one a flauta on the side too... 3. Quesadilla suiza with ground beef. I've enjoyed all the meats I've tried, but I love the quesadilla with the seasoned ground beef! Absolutely perfect and so filling!!! Comes with a little salad on the side that I eat with my bites of gooey cheese and meat. You definitely need some salsa with this one! 4. Tacos. Carnitas. After enjoying years of the tasty home style food in our neighborhood. Taqueria Morena can still surprise us with a hidden gem of a dish that for some reason we had never tried. Their BIRRIA is delicious!! It's not like my granpa's made with tender goat meat but their version is very tasty, well balanced with tender simmered beef. We're so glad that these good folks and small businesses owners have survived these 2+ years of challenging times. They have fed us many times with their tasty food. K found this while searching for lunch options and I am so glad she did!!! This is now my second favourite place for my go-to dish, the "Camarones a la Diablo". As usual I asked for no cheese, no tortilla, extra rice instead of the tortilla and goodness, I shouldn't have asked for the extra rice. The portion size was big and I was already about full two-thirds of the way in. The shrimps soaked in the sauce pretty well, and was slightly smokey and slightly sweet. The guacamole was fresh and the spanish / mexican rice delicious. The refried beans were a little bland but it offset the whole dish so well that I had absolutely nothing to complain about. K's chicken tamale, pork taco, and chicken enchilada cpmrising the "3 piece a la carte" was really good too. I loved the sauce on it, and enjoyed the bite of tamale and enchilada I pilfered from her plate. The pork in the taco was slightly crunchy, the way I like it, although she would have liked it softer. I am of the opinion that a killer sauce on the taco would have ensured the dish hit three home-runs! The complimentary salsa wth chips was pretty good though I missed the bean dip that the other reviewers talked about. Next time I am gonna ask for the bean dip. This place ripped me off and stole my money. Restaurants are hurting because of the shutdown be really? Mom had to put her cat to sleep. Afterwards we stopped. I ordered 2 dinner plates #7s, and a fluata à la carte. They asked if I would like the fluata with one of the dinner plates. I agreed. I mean why waste the extra takeout container. When I paid they asked if I wanted a receipt. I said no (BIG MISTAKE), cause I would just throw away the paper. When the order was ready I was given a big heavy bag with two boxes, and left. I dropped mom off, opened the bag to find only one dinner plate, and one fluata by itself! I went back, "I hope you know why I'm here?" "Yes." I paused, "Ok tell me why?" Blank stare. "I ordered 2 #7s and a fluata" "Yes two." "I only got one."... After a lot of back and forth they wouldn't give me my order or my money back on one plate. I'm a local. This is one of the taquerias I go to for their Mexican Menudo. I can't stop craving it. Because of the pandemic, I'm glad Door Dash picks up and delivers my order. Lately, we've gone to dine-in and there's not a lot of people, so that's a good thing for us. Note: they require POV to eat inside. We are always cautious by wearing masks and sanitizing everything. Online orders can be a bit difficult because their menu is a bit incomplete. I can't order separate particular items like chips or salsa. They disappeared from the choices. Inside the taqueria, I could order everything. I guess ordering by phone is better. Anyway, their food is great, which is why we keep coming back for more. I'm a fan of their guacamole.
