11/26/24. Party of 11 arrived around 6:45pm to a madhouse. Thankfully, they had a record of our reservation, so we were seated quickly. We were given salsa (mild and spicy) and chips, while we placed our margarita orders. I tried to order a cosmo but the waiter and manager didn't know how to make one. They tried their best and gave me a martini, but it was just a vodka/cranberry. The table ordered 3 queso dips which were addicting. Various entrees were ordered but I chose the mixed fajitas. The portion was ample and it was very good. No complaints on the food. The service needs improvement. We had to ask multiple times for water, napkins, more margaritas, and chips. The delivery of the entrees were also staggered. The real shocker to me is that no employee knew how to make a cosmo despite having the ingredients. There might have been a language barrier issue, but still surprising nonetheless.

Food is always great when I visit -Iam from out of town. I am never disappointed-chips & salsa fresh - salsa is not that spicy ! Its service has always been great - it can get loud but you can still hear each other! I recommend

El Vallarta has always been our favorite Mexican restaurant! Tonight they outdid themselves...they spoiled our babies & made them feel so special! The owner was such a nice man...he greeted us immediately...asked what our girls want to drink & surprised them with these fun drinks! The waitress then ended our night by dropping off an additional cup of delish fruit! Food is ALWAYS great..the place is ALWAYS clean & service is ALWAYS wonderful!

Came here with a huge group the day before Thanksgiving (15 kids and adults total). They don't accept reservations, but we came early and they accommodated us well. Menu is huge and everything we all had was excellent. Great portions, flavor, and variety. The nachos were especially enjoyed. Some of us also enjoyed their $2 taco special. The absolute highlight of the night was when the robot cat delivered the food while playing music! We were all shocked and the kids enjoyed it especially. We had a slight mixup when we ordered the margarita pitcher, thinking we were ordering the special posted at the entrance, but turns out we needed to ask for the "margarita mix". That was a bit disappointing, but overall we still had a great experience.

Holy Guacamole this is a new spot that I overlooked for the past 3 years. I had the classic Mexican sandwich known as the Mexican Torta with a Long Island Iced Tea. The sandwich is a staple and I can see why. You select your choice of meat and It was filled with avocado slices, lettuce, refried beans, onions, tomatoes served on French bread. I wasn't expecting a full crowd yet this place was packed with families and friends. It was nice vibe with splashes of Mexican decor. My drink was a bit strong but needed for the type of day I was having. The portion is quite huge so go on an empty stomach.

The food here is always good. On this visit I tried something new. The chicken Oscar. Wow, the sauce that accompanies the chicken is phenomenal. The chicken breast itself was a bit dry and bland, but the sauce took this dish from mediocre and I will never order again to delicious and I'll definitely order on my next visit. Now I am not a rice fan, but this cilantro rice was great. My 2 young children had the kids chicken tenders with fries. Nothing to write about. Your usual Mexican kids chicken and fries. My husband had the fajitas which is his normal unless he's feeling adventurous. Service as always is friendly, prompt, and fast, and my kids just love the robotic, music singing server.

I love this place! The servers are all extremely nice and cheerful which is rare these days. The Mexican food is very good and you can find anything from low cal to low carb to I don't care I'm all in !!! Highly recommended as one of my favorites in Waxhaw!!

    Sangria. It's HUGE!

I was solo so It's nice to have something watch besides your phone. The beer was cold, I had a draft, excellent pour. And the 3 sauces I got with chips were the best I've had in Charlotte. The salsa, delicious, the hot salsa, fire, delicious fire. And the tomatillos sauce, the best I've ever had. Servers wear elbow length oven mitts when they bring plates, cautioned me while putting it down. I'm used to that with fajitas but I had enchiladas and almost everything that I saw served while there came out hot. Impressive. My food was top notch and the portions large. My server checked on me quite often and brought anything I asked for immediately. One of the managers was circulating too, speaking to every table. Again, impressive. Great food, excellent server, very inexpensive for Ballantyne. I don't think you'll find better for less anywhere in Charlotte. I will be eating there again.

The servers are fantastic, the food is amazing, and the lunch specials are to die for. Their lunch menu is great and has great variety (even breakfast too). It's usually half full for lunch and it's always actual Mexicans eating there, so you know the food is authentic. For dinner the menu is also great and on weekends they usually have live music and the ambience is pretty nice. It's usually really packed on weekends and Fridays so get there early, but the wait is so worth it. P.S. here's my order recommendation, ask for the spicy salsa or salsa verde (they're free!!!) and for lunch get the Lunch Cheese Steak Burrito or the Lunch Burrito Mexicano; for dinner I usually get the Arroz con Pollo: Texas Style, but you can't really go wrong, just don't get any of the combos or numbered dishes.

Service was good. The biggest downfall was the beverages. The coffee my daughter and I each had tasted like water (we both agreed) we nicely asked waitress to try another pot and she did and it was just as bad. The waitress mentioned that other folks have complained about the coffee. My wife had Ice Tea and she is a connoisseur and she said that too was really tasteless. Basically we spent an extra $10 on drinks that were not good. Waitress didn't offer to comp the drinks even after we mentioned being unhappy with them. With lots of breakfast options in Waxhaw and Indian Land we will be taking our business other places.

We went with small ($6.99) and they were A LOT OF ICE and not much liquid. We ordered another small and finally ordered a large ($10.99) with more liquid, but still A LOT OF ICE. Consider beer next time. Our guacamole dip ($6.99) was good with their chips. I do like that they offer Toreados ($3.99), which are three grilled jalapeno peppers and some grilled onions. I asked for well-done peppers and they were not. If they are grilled or fried, they are soft and less hot. A great accompaniment to your meals...if well cooked. Wife had a wonderful beef and cheese quesadilla especial ($16.99) and I had a taste and agreed with her assessment. She brought half of this order home. If I come back this is what I would order and recommend to others. I asked with three cheese enchiladas ($7.99) with onions cooked inside them, covered with salsa verde (green sauce) rather that the tired old red sauce which is like the dip served with chips. I got what I ordered which came without rice &/or beans. However, I had to send them back to be heated. The cheese had not melted well. I did not like this order. Their service is great. Attentive and active, with our waitress, Evelyn, being in constant motion. She could be called speedy. She did a super job.

Handful of times I have ordered it to go and it's always hot, fresh, and amazingly FLAVORFUL. A plus to them is that they always have it ready in 20-25 mins. When my X and I first moved to Indian Trail, a lot of friends suggested this restaurant as the authority for Tex Mex. It's a good thing they have a big parking lot as they're generally packed, which means people like it. Me? My short reply is it's pretty good. Opening up the doors the atmosphere has a bit of reserved authenticity, no dollar tree prefab gimmicks are there just to plant a flag, claiming to be just like all other options out there. No this is the real deal with a warming atmosphere designed to entice locals to take a load off and relax. The server stand is directly in front and what appears to be a predominately family-owned business. The staff is quick to greet and seat everyone who enters and the place is extremely clean with a low noise level. Lets get to the food, shall we? First of all, I prefer thinner chips as theirs are really thick, but that's not a quality issue. The salsa is darn good and be careful for asking for hot salsa, you'll get what you asked for. Generally I fill up on chips and get something light however I've heard so many good things about La Unica I had to hold back so I could sample some of the former mrs food and gorge on my own. Please note I did drop by twice so I have three dishes I can speak too. First the former Mrs me got the flautas dinner. All the sides; lettuce, tomato, guac, sour cream and rice were fresh and tasty. The tomatoes were ripe and the guac wasn't discolored which means fresh. The flautas were perfectly cooked, crispy with flavorful and moist chicken while not being greasy. Top it with some lettuce and sour cream YUM! My first sample was the Shrimp burrito or I'll call it the Titanic as it was HUGE & IT WENT DOWN! Very tasty with plenty of fat shrimp and all the sides inside. I found it fun to cut into it, pop a bite into my mouth and see which ingredients hit my tastebuds; a revolving experience. Overall, it was very good and not to spicy. For the record, I don't eat beans so I'm not a good judge of what happened there. My final menu item was my best bud, my old faithful, my ride or die - steak fajitas. Again, the sides were awesome no issue there but I found the steak a bit tough. It was seasoned well and tasty but I did some chewing to finish it off. I think it may have been an off day. Other than the MMA fighting steak (implying it's tough) the dish is outstanding. Overall, La Unica is the best Mexican aka Tex Mex restaurant in Indian Trail. The staff is friendly and fast, the chips and salsa are great and for the most part you can always get a seat. Even when busy, the food doesn't seem to suffer. I wish I could have tried more items, alas life has dictated I'm a nomad so I won't be back. But don't let that stop you for hitting up the best south of the border joint in town!
