Roadside bbq joint that was recommended by a friend who visits PR a lot. We stopped by for lunch, there was a bit of a wait (10-15 minutes) but it was worth it. We got the half chicken, yucca, plantains and rice + beans. The chicken was flavorful and juicy, as was the rice! My favorite was the yucca - gooey goodness. The food was great. I mean really delicious. It took a very long time to get it bc one person was doing all the work and 3 others stood around and shot the sh#t. I paid for two orders of mofongo and they did not give them to me. I spent $123.00 which was about $30 more than I planned bc the prices on the menu on the internet are outdated. Ambiance? I love this place. I come every time I'm in Puerto Rico it's our go to stop on the way to el yunque. The service is fast and friendly they usually don't speak much English but ordering is pretty straightforward as the menu shows both English word and Spanish words. There is plenty of space to eat outside or take it to go. It is surrounded by palm trees so the outdoor dinning makes you forget your on a roadside. Highly recommended! read more

Very nice place and the workers all seem to be having a great time. Loved that they worked with me as I don't speak too much Spanish it I understand a lot. My wife had the cuajo and mofongo and I had mofongo and pernil. The cuajo was straight cuajo. Wife said it usually has more like peppers and such and it needed salt. The mofongo was ok but I would've like more salt as well. The pernil was perfect! That was juicy and tasted delicious. I'd definitely come back for straight up pernil. read more

Great spot for authentic Puerto Rican food! We are staying at the Hyatt Regency and glad it was located nearby and open late. The food is prepared so all they have to do is chop it up. We got the pork ribs which basically fell off the bone (no need for bbq sauce either), the pollo (so flavorful and delicious), the mofongo, and the amarillos (sweet plantains). Being Texan, any BBQ restaurant will have some high standards to meet. However, with an open mind, and an empty stomach, this place was surprisingly delicious! Keep in mind that this place isn't typical southern US bbq. It's PR style bbq and we loved it. The only reason for a 4 and not a 5 is, again, being Texan hearing the word bbq, the standards are expected to be pretty damn high to a certain, smoky style. The sides are all yummy, but the plantains are the perfect taste after eating all the great food. It is all outdoor eating!!! It's on a corner just as you exit the highway, so you have to be quick. It's on the right side at the corner that looks like they do not have parking. You can park in front, or make a right at the light and plenty of parking in the back of the restaurant. El Verde BBQ is a must stop when you are traveling to or from the eastern part of PR. It's located a the end of PR-66 heading East. I've been coming here since I was a kid. It used to be called Brisas del Verde (don't remember when the name changed). It was an obligatory stop when we went to El Yunque or Río Mar, either dine-in or takeout. Every time grow d's visited from the States I would take them there. The food is excellent. I have tried pretty much everything and can honestly say it is all good, from the bbq chicken to the morcillas to the mofongo and yuca. But my favorites have always been the ribs and cuajito. They also have a full bar making it a great place to hang it and drink or as a stop when chinchorreando in the northeast. read more

RACISM - I've ordered here plenty times with my credit card but today I was asked for ID. I gave my ID but my credit card is old and all the numbers and name have rubbed off. I showed my credit card login, my virtual card number and additional credit cards that all show my name. She refused my payment and the only reason is l'm a black American. There's absolutely no signs or warnings that this place doesn't accept debit cards. After ordering our food, having it all bagged up, we were told that they can't accept our form of payment. The ATM machine they have there was also out of service. Staff was rude, and make you look dumb for not knowing how they work there. Very disappointing. read more

Wow! This place is a gem. Great food on the cheap. We went early because we heard it gets crowded and we wanted to eat there. You go up to the counter and order your food. They have picnic tables outside. We were trying to decide from the menu hanging behind the counter and then the guy opened the door where all the meat is sitting and the chicken looked so fine. Most meats are sold by the pound except the chicken. We got a half chicken - BBQed (which is really just a rub, no sauce) and a pound of pork. They give you sauce on the side. That was way too much for two people but we wanted to try both. We also got a side of sweet potatoes and a couple coronas. Our total bill was $22. The chicken was the best, so juicy and the rub was perfect. The pork was the butt cut and not as juicy as a pork shoulder, which is what we are used to at BBQ places, but very flavorful. It was even better leftover for breakfast the next day. The sweet potatoes look like regular gold potatoes and at first we thought they made a mistake.
