Nuances looks more modern than many of the other old San Juan restaurants. This was out last stop on our food tour and they definitely saved the best for last! We had an smoke portion of bifongo and chicken. The dish was delicious! We also had cheesecake flan. Also a hit! This restaurant has only been here about a year. Definitely give it a try if you are in Old San Juan.

We came in with a group tour that included lunch (already determined). We had a delicious lunch of white rice, red beans, and chicken in a stew sauce. Our tour guide (Francis) helped serve the dishes and drinks. The rest of the interactions with the staff was friendly and pleasant. The decor was very modern and inviting. Our tour guide said that this restaurant had not been open for long. We will definitely add this spot as a place to come back.

I was told upon entering that mofongo is their specialty and I can see why! The food was great and the well cooled interior gave me a much needed break from the heat of the outdoors. I ordered the mofongo with skirt steak and an arroz mamposteao. Both were great but I especially liked the rice. It was delicious! If l was a local, this would likely be a spot I'd come back to.

We came here on a food tour. The Mofongo was so good! The chicken was cooked in a very flavorful sauce and was so tender. The restaurant is small and family owned. It was probably the best food of the trip so far.

first timers and first dinner in San Juan. Super clean, quiet and modern restaurant. Bathrooms are outside. Nice service, authentic Puerto rican food here. They also have a full bar. We tried sancocho, mofongo, churrasco, chuletas and white rice and beans. Very good food here!

Walked into a nice small local restaurant A/C is great in here after that walk to get here. The servers greeted us with a big beautiful welcoming smile which is always the best way to pull me in. Drinks- we got the mojito (classic) and the passion fruit margarita and they were both very nice. Drinks were mixed great where nothing was overwhelming the other. Beef turnover- nice and tasty. The beef was seasoned well with hints of herbal seasonings. It came with a little pepper sauce that wasn't just spicy but had like a sweet pepper and chives flavor as well. Baked pork ribs- got this with the white rice and beans. The beans was well seasoned and tasted really good. The rice was cooked well and with some salt where it's not too much but you can taste a hint of it with every bite. The pork was disappointingly dry. It had a nice flavor almost like smoked but too dry and hard. Fried snapper- this took the cake. It was cooked to perfection where it wasn't dry but soft and juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. It came with a nice tasting garlic sauce but honestly the sauce over powers the herbal flavor of the fish. Fried cod fish- this was a no no. It was fried like a chip but tasted like oil. There was no fish flavor at all.

Well good news, the food is still good! I stopped in during the festival of San Sebastian and the restaurant was packed! We luckily got a seat for two and were able to order right away. I order the mofongo de pollo and my friend ordered a different meal with a soup. I am not going to lie, the service was extremely slow and the food took about 30 to 40 mins maybe to come out. I expect this was because of the festival and how busy the restaurant was. When the food came out, it was delicious! The chicken was great and drenched in a salsa criolla sauce. It was definitely worth the wait! After my meal, I ordered a coffee to digest the food. Luckily this didn't take as long as the food. I would definitely recommend this place however if you are in a rush, it might be best to go somewhere else. The food is very tasty!

The restaurant is very small inside but they do have outside dining which is what we chose to do. The service was good, they were very attentive to our needs. Unfortunately, the appetizer we ordered was just awful. We ordered a mix of very traditional Puerto Rican bites-small alcapurrias, sorrullos, chicharrónes de pollo and some fried cheese. There was absolutely nothing good about the mix. The alcapurrias has no meat whatsoever, the chicharrónes were not crispy and the cheese was just awful. I wanted to give them a 1star review but I felt this would not be fair because we did not try an entree and I hope that would be better. The 3star was because the service was good. In addition to the service later on in the evening they had live music which was essentially old traditional Puerto Rican music which was excellent. So to be fair I thought a 3 star review would be the right thing to do. Hopefully the entrees are much better just stay away from the surtido appetizer because it was not good.

I was really craving fried snapper, but unfortunately, it was too large for me to eat by myself. To my disappointment, it was served family style, and my family wasn't in the mood for fish. Instead, we ordered several items from the menu, including stew chicken, fried pork chops, which my son really enjoyed. We also had mofongo with chicken and creole sauce, white rice and beans, fried plantains, and another side of beans and rice. We definitely over-ordered, as the food was plentiful and very filling. In fact, that was the only meal we had that day. If you're ever in San Juan, Puerto Rico, I highly recommend this restaurant. It's a hidden gem tucked away on a side street. You will not be disappointed! I can't wait to go back.

Your date might be a little over-garlicked if you try to kiss them without letting them at least try it, though. Definitely a vampire-free zone. Delicious! And the best I have ever had, anywhere. We tried a little of a lot of things, kind of a meal of sides to go with our mofongo, and the empanadilla pastry was flaky and light. Hubs liked the chicken one best, I preferred the ground beef. But the big takeaway is the mofongo with garlic sauce. They even let you choose from a list of other sauces if you don't want garlic, but frankly, there's a reason it's listed first and it's not just tradition.

Review #1,046 Posted on 4.26.26…read more We came here on Thursday the 23rd while in San Juan area for my buddies 50th birthday. This spot we had seen on social media a ton for being famous for their Mallorca sandwich, a special type bread, we got the one with bacon & American cheese. Man, I made the mistake of doing the bacon instead of ham, overthought that deal. I tried my buddies with ham n cheese and I think that was way to go. I loved how this spot had that super old school feel of like a diner. You can sit at one of the table tops, or you can do the countertop too, which has tons of seats, we all were able to sit there. I'd 100% recommend this spot, but get the ham n cheese mallorca sandwich, don't overthink it.

The pastries displayed at the window were inviting. If you're dining in, you have to tell your server that you're getting some pastries that are on display then you ask the person at the counter who also serves as the cashier to get them for you. The guava pastry was good. The vanilla bread with strawberry and pineapple/lemon was okay. They looked better than they tasted in my opinion. Payment for everything would be at the cashier after dining. If you're in San Juan, this is a place to try!

We visited on a Monday night without a reservation and almost didn't get a table. The hostess was incredibly kind and explained that there was an 8:00 p.m. reservation that hadn't been confirmed. She offered to seat us if the party didn't arrive within the grace period. Thankfully, they never showed up, and the table became ours. From that point on, everything was fantastic.
