Simple, good, AUTHENTIC Puerto RIcan food. Not to pricey either.

This place right here is by far our favorite place to eat at when we're in PR. We're native Puerto Ricans and every time we come back to visit we stop here to get a delicious home cooked meal. The last place we want to stop and eat at would be a touristic place with outrageous prices. Not only do they have a variety of flavorful meats, authentic side dishes and full bar, the prices are easy on the pockets! This is a joint, our kinda place! Nothing fancy, all locals. The food is good, plenty of it, and priced right! You walk up to the counter and order. Before you know it you are eating like fools! Our beers came in frosted bottles... it was that cold! We ordered 1.5 pounds of ribs, a whole chicken, about a pound of pork, medium container of rice and beans, sweet potatoes (excellent), 3 beers and 3 Pina Coladas.... About $50 plus tip. The food was all good and we would order the same on our next trip. The Pina Coladas were excellent and they were potent... no short shots here. We will definitely go back! I knocked off one star as it is a little rough and it isn't the kind of spot if you are at all pretentious, we certainly don't want you here. Amazing food and great prices ! If you want authentic Spanish food this is where you have to go!!!!! We had the rice and peas, chicken, plantains and empanadas. Everything was great. We weren't a fan of the empenadas but everything else was wonderful! We will definitely go back on our next visit to puerto Rico. read more

Wow! Thoroughly impressed with the food and service. Late hours are also really nice. BBQ chicken was top notch. Yuka with garlic was delicious with the chicken. Rice was a great base for it all. Loved every bite. We didn't quite know what to order at first or how much because they go by weight. They answered all my silly questions, and we just asked the person helping us to give us a good amount for two people who want to share and he picked out just the right amount. This place is the best. We loved the ribs most, and the rice and peas are AMAZING. Whoever said this place was expensive must be used to eating ramen noodles, because you can get an entire (large) meal for under $7 easy here. We ended up going here twice and split three different meats. 3 different meats, 2 large portions of sides, and a large pina colada was $20... and was way too much food to finish for 2 people. Oh, and the large pina colada was $3.50! And they were SO kind and helpful when ordering. No impatience, no rudeness toward tourists. Under impressed. The chicken was ok, ribs ok, seasoning on both good, but everything tasted like it had been sitting in the warming window all day. A little too dry. The mafango was very garlicky. We came here looking for a great barbecue lunch and they delivered just what we were looking for. The service was quick and they were extremely friendly. They also helped us order our meal, and we ended up getting their infamous chicken and pork meal, along with some french fries. Our lunch was incredible and delicious. The chicken was tender, moist, and flavorful. The bark in the roast pork was unbelievable. Both meats were juicy, and we will be coming back to El Verde Barbecue. Of all the delicious food we had in Puerto Rico, this place was among the best and the cheapest places we tried. It's definitely a local spot, not many tourists but we felt very welcome. We ordered our food, delicious BBQ, chicken, ribs, mofongo, tostones, plantains, yucca with garlic butter (so delicious) and we had 4 cans of beer! Our bill was 22$! The restaurant is on the side of the road, but this just makes even more unique and has a special feel to it. Don't expect a dinner with white tablecloth but the food is the best BBQ you'll ever have. I'm would travel back to Puerto Rico just to get to eat here again :) read more

If you like cheap, meaty, wholesome food this is the place for you. It's a little small BBQ shack off the highway, and it might be a little adventurous for some, but it is definitely worth it. Although most people there speak spanish, it is rather easy to get across what you want to order. That's probably because there's only a few menu options of ribs, chicken, rice, blood sausage, and fried plantains. But don't let that scare you, the simplicity of it is fantastic. All the food is tender, smokey, and ready to consume in little time. Also, there is a stray dog that hangs around that is very cute, but there are some crows that are typical of Puerto Rico there as well. Other than that, there's really not much else to say. Have been here many times and love it every time. All the Puerto Rican specialties here for a great price. $7 for a pound of delicious ribs? Yes! Mound of mofongo? Yes! Yuca, arroz con gandules (rice with chickpeas), batata (sweet potato), amarillo (fried sweet plantain). The chicken is great too, but the morcilla (blood sausage) is more rice than blood and could use more seasoning. Haven't tried the fried pork. You might need to wait to get served if there's a lot of people (as each waiter/food prepper serves you one at a time). You can order from either side of the booth. One thing I would recommend doing is getting a pound of ribs and sharing it, rather than getting the half-pound, as in my experience, they give you a better cut and fewer bones for the pound than the half-pound. read more

Seen this on Yelp as a place to go for BBQ. Let me tell you that ... The pollo was amazing! The pork ribs were amazing! The mofongo with garlic sauce was amazing! The pork was amazing !! Hahaha ..... Very close to the Wyndham Rio grand resort on 3. Soooo good, that we are hooked! Don't pass it when in the Rio Grande area. If you you don't speak Spanish they have a menu they will hand you, and then you do your best to say what it is that you want. Very polite and patient with my family and I..... For $26 all three of us ate until we were full, and brought back food with us to the hotel. It won't kill your wallet like the Wyndham will. Don't judge this place on appearance!! The pork was so juicy and delicious, as was the chicken. Be sure to try the plantains!!

This is the best restaurant in this area, including those located in St Regis. The food is simply amazing and the service is fast.

The food was good, but it didn't quite live up to the hype for us. The chicken was flavorful but the white meat was dry and the mofongo was nothing special. Compared to Bebo's BBQ, we preferred Bebo's BBQ. The beer was ice cold.
