I understand if there's a party of 5 & better. When I got the bill the gratuity was not recommended it was included, what a loss to them ( I usually tip 30% I've worked in the industry) . I used to come here as a young child with my aunt. It is a nice local restaurant in Ozone Park. It is Dominican food with decent prices & great service. The chuletas were tasty and tender. Great food and service! The staff is very friendly and they've become good friends of ours since we live in the neighborhood and frequently eat in and order delivery from them. Their service and food were great even before they became family friends. Their margaritas are really good and when they have live music events the ambient is GREAT! Service was sooooo slow! I could've went to the grocery store, bought my ingredients, went home, cooked and ate faster than it takes the food to come out. Each time I've gone there was no bartender present. The waiter told me I could go behind the bar and mix my own drink if I liked..ummm, what? It's a RARE occasion where I give a business a bad rating. But the level of disappointment tonight was off the charts. My sister and I decided to stay in and order some Spanish food. We both ordered the same thing : pernil, rice and beans. We also got tres leches cake. This was around 6:45. Over an hour later, I called just to make sure everything was okay ( making sure they took down the address correctly etc). This was around 7:50-8pm. I called back around 8:30 wondering where the food was. A few minutes later, the food arrived. We were starving and ready to munch, but not before the driver accused me of short changing him, when I in fact paid my bill AND gave him a $5 tip. In the rain no less. Safe to say, I was HIGHLY annoyed. But it didn't end there. We served ourselves and started to eat. We waited close to two hours for undercooked rice and overcooked pernil that was tasteless. At that point, we were over it. We threw out ALL the food. The only thing worth eating were the tres leches cakes. And I was not about to call back and wait another two hours for new food. The food is really good but I only give if 4 stars because the service could stand improvement. You end up having to repeat yourself and even still sometimes they still mess up. Great Dominican food... had grilled chicken stuffed with shrimp, it is accompanied with mash potatoes and vegetables and your choice of rice and beans or tostones (fried green plantains)... the seasoning is very carribbean and Dominican like and very tasteful. No lunch specials on the weekend so I only ordered an $8 appetizer of Yayo buffalo wings (which was essentially encrusted with corn meal and deep fried). It was really meh and overly fried, but I tried my friend's other dishes it they were definitely yummy. They give you so much food that I have it for lunch over the next 2 days...stew chicken, beef stew and ox tail are among my co-workers favorites (and mine). Went to eat on Thursday 11/1/18. The pork chops were fried to death. So hard it hurt to eat them. Waiter brought out pork chops and yuca. Waited 10 more minutes for rice and beans. Asked about the mofongo we ordered and where told it was coming out soon. Told her to bag it as we were almost finished ripping out teeth out with the pork chops. Reheated the mofongo the next day which I have done many times. Plantains were not cooked. They must have a different cook on Thursdays. I wont go there on a Thursday again. Food= 2.5/5 Service= 4/5 Value= 3/5 Environment= 4/5 I was very excited to try this place since my dad was raving about it to me. But you know...I have to realize my tastes differ from the rest of the members of my family. I love taste....yet my parents and my siblings seem to love plain...only with some things do we ever agree on. Service was ok. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't a busy night at all. Heck, it was nearly empty. Chicken empanada- 3/5- The inside was a bit cold, it was somewhat tasty but the bit that was cold kind of ruined it. Hot chocolate- 2/5- I definitely should have just gotten myself a mango shake. This was basically a store-bought hot cocoa mix. Hey I like the mixes I have nothing against them....but that's not what I want in a Latino or Spanish restaurant....... Pernil 2.5/5- Here was where I was definitely disappointed. Sure the hot cocoa and the empanada started off rough, but the main course should have been the highlight of my meal. I was not happy, I was not thrilled. It wasn't THAT bad. It was edible. But it tasted like real amateur or beginner cooking....it was dry and bland, not tasty, not juicy. Heck...the pernil my dad made a week or two ago was much better than this (to be honest I liked it and it was his first time making it, congrats dad for following grandpa's directions). I was expecting this pernil served to me to be as good or even better. Yellow rice and beans 3.75/5- This was the only dish I was happy about in my order. It tasted like what my grandpa makes when I visit and eat dinner. Rice had taste, and so did the beans. Now I did try a bit of my dad's breaded pork chops. Really...I think I should have gotten what he got. It was tasty and flavorful and not dry like the pernil. I also tried the green plantains from my mom........too dry....and definitely no taste...I didn't like it. I really wanted to enjoy this place but perhaps we came during an off night. My dad wondered if it was a different cook this time. I don't know...I doubt I'll ever come back here. As for the environment for the place itself, it's a moderate size place and it looks nice inside like a fancy restaurant...sort of, except for the back where you got the refrigerated drinks and dessert...speaking of dessert.... I wanted to try the flan...but after the disappointing meal...I was afraid the dessert would only make my mood worse, so I passed.
