We were standing in the main area when a bottle service waitress approached us and offered a table. I told her we were fine at the bar, but she insisted and said we didn't need to buy a bottle--just that we could sit and enjoy. We agreed, but as soon as we sat down, she immediately added that we'd have to move if someone came and bought a bottle. That felt misleading and unnecessary, especially considering the club was nearly empty with plenty of open tables. At the bar, things didn't improve. I ordered 2 margaritas and 2 shots, but the bartender poured 4 shots instead. When I politely clarified that we only wanted 2, she refused to take the extras back. To make matters worse, the total tab ended up being over $100--including the extra shots we never asked for. That's unacceptable. Overall, the service was poor, the atmosphere felt low quality, and there was a complete lack of hospitality. It's not surprising they keep rebranding and changing names. They advertise themselves as a "3-story club," yet the rooftop is consistently closed due to staffing issues. We ended up leaving and going to Fabian's down the street, which had a much better vibe and overall experience.

I went on a Sunday night with some friends and we were literally like the only ones in there, i ordered 2 Modelos amd was charged $20...... For 2 beers $20? That's crazy! I might as well have gotten a mixed drink. Won't be attending again based off that.

The second time I went someone assaulted my friend and security took care of the situation in a timely manner. The Ambience of each night is different, I'm huge fan of the emo nights but have attended the Recession pop nights as well. The drink prices are marked up but it's a club in Houston so that's a given. It's always super loud inside but the balcony is perfect for taking breaks and having conversations!

For starters, this is located in the "other" midtown away from the trendy restaurants and bars and literally on the other side of the tracks south of Main. What I'm getting at is it's sketchy as hell. If you park on the street there, there is a pretty good chance it'll get broken into since the street lights have mysteriously been knocked out and you have a large homeless and/or druggie population wandering around. We had a large enough crowd that we decided to walk down there the couple of blocks. Getting in is also interesting since they give you the TSA treatment and get the metal detector out and ask you to empty your pockets while mean mugging you if you don't know which way the entrance is. Inside has the classic beatdown downtown warehouse decor but on the plus side, the AC works, the bathrooms are surprisingly clean (which is why I'm giving them 2 stars instead of 1), and in its own way is kind of welcoming if you're not into any of the trendy places. It kind of reminds me of how Houston's alternative scene was in the 90's...not sure what the kids call this nowadays. Then there is the music. It wasn't good. The sound system is muffled and the music selection was pop rock style from like 2007-2012 mostly so even though I am older, I can still say it was lame without sounding like that old guy who hates new stuff. I actually WANTED to hear new stuff and not what I would listen to on Pandora 15 years ago, but apparently the younger and alternative crowd seemed to like it. It's kind of like Numbers Night Club for people who don't like wearing black and think of the 2000's as their 80's? I gotta say though, despite having the scary walk and dealing with frowning security and bartenders who act like they're doing you a favor for letting you in, it's a great place for people watching.

Anybody that knows me knows I hate driving. So what am I to do when all the dancing spots are located deep in Houston. I may have the energy to dance the night away but I definitely don't want to waste my time driving. So Amazonia caters to me by being close and right off I-45 and beltway 8. I tend to arrive to clubs relatively early so I've never encountered an unbearable line or anything like that at this location. It may start at slow but by midnight this place is packed. I should add that the majority of the crowd here is hispanic and that men DO get patted down at the entrance. Additionally theres a strip club right next door so it appears as though they share a good amount of the male clientele. This is not the place I would choose for a single-ladies night out, but if you have a dance partner it's not as likely you'll be bothered. This venue is a split club, and it has two dance floors. The main floor is International night on Saturdays and it has two bars, bathrooms and a VIP section, they play salsa, cambia, merengue, bachata, punta etc. The smaller dance floor claims to play hip-hop, electronic and top 40's but honestly its about 80% reggaeton, 10% trap, and 10% rap from the early 2000's. Theres also bathrooms, another bar and two strip poles and a hoop hanging from the ceiling where girls perform on certain nights. They have some bar stools and couches in both dance areas too. Overall the decor isn't luxurious, and the place is somewhere between clean and dingy. I come back to Amazonia because I come here to dance, not lounge or inspect the decor, so I don't really need more than some good music and a dance floor. One thing that did disappoint me this last visit was that the shots went up in price and are ridiculously small now. I will not be purchasing any shots here anymore, but I'll keep frequently this place when I get my dance fever and don't want to invest much gas or driving time.

Disappointed with the Music Selection at a Country Venue:…read more I want to start by acknowledging Mike from Business Customer Service for his response--it was appreciated, though not quite what I was hoping for. My girls and I enjoy a wide range of music and frequently visit hip hop, salsa, and country clubs. However, on this particular night, we intentionally chose a country club/saloon because we were in the mood to listen and dance to country music--not hip hop. If we had been looking for hip hop, there are plenty of other venues that cater to that. What was disappointing was that the music did not align with the country theme that the club advertises. From my experience and from reading other reviews, I'm clearly not the only customer who feels this way. I've visited country clubs in both California and Austin, and they stay true to their brand by playing country music exclusively. If diversification is the goal, it might be worth reconsidering how the venue is marketed because branding as a country club sets a specific expectation. A few weeks ago, a group of us visited from Austin on a Saturday and left disappointed for the same reason. We're giving it another try this Friday, hopeful that the experience will better reflect the country vibe we're looking for. If it does, I'll be more than happy to update this review with a well-deserved 5 stars.

YEEHAW! BULL RIDING, LINE DANCING, AND MORE!!! 03/03/24…read more I recently celebrated my friend's birthday here at this establishment. It was my first time visiting a country club and I must say I had the most fabulous time ever! There was country music and line dancing galore! The overall ambiance and vibe of the club was raging with excitement and pure energy. It's absolutely enormous inside and there's more than one bar available at this establishment. With all the many dancers crowding the dance floor, it's a good thing this place is humongous. However, the ironic thing about all that space is that there's extremely limited seating availability provided; that is if you have not reserved a table for a birthday party. It seemed like every table was reserved for a party because my daughter and I walked every inch of that club and could not find an available table to sit at because they were all reserved for a party. However, there were plenty of seats around the dance floor, but they were taken as well. So, my advice would be to reserve a table in advance even if you are not celebrating a birthday party. This will at least ensure that you have somewhere to sit and rest your feet after leaving the dance floor. My friend, the birthday girl, did not reserve a table for her party thinking that there would be abandoned tables in the building. Big huge mistake. Furthermore, we ordered drinks all night because the prices were inexpensive. Be prepared to leave tips for the bartender if they truly deserve the tip. As I mentioned previously, there is more than one bar in this establishment. At the bar located to the immediate right as you first enter the entrance doors, there was a blonde haired female bartender and a Latino male bartender working that particular area. Both of them were unfriendly and unwelcoming. I could literally feel the ice-cold energy flowing through their veins. My daughter and I were asking them if they had any good suggestions for us since we really didn't know what we wanted to drink. We tried placing our order with the male bartender first who would not speak up for us to understand him. We asked him what drinks were on the menu for the night and he kept repeating something that we could not understand and he kept a monotone vibe as if he didn't care for us ordering at his bar. As a result, my daughter and I turned to the female bartender in hopes that she would be a little friendlier. She wasn't any better. She acted as if she did not know what to suggest from their own drink menu. She asked us what we wanted to drink and I responded to her, "Ma'am we are asking you and the gentleman for any suggestions because we are indecisive at the moment." She kept acting like a "dumb blonde" as if she did not know what to suggest so we just asked for a lemon drop which was okay. It wasn't strong at all and watery. I left her a tip and moved along. I was not pleased at all with the way they treated us. As a result of the lackadaisical bartenders at the first bar, my daughter and I decided to move to the back of the building and visit the other bar. This bartender was on and popping! He was very entertaining, friendly, and welcoming. He also had a mini chalkboard on display that listed the featured drinks of the night. Now this is what I was asking the other two unfriendly and unwelcoming bartenders about their featured drinks on the menu because they did not have a menu on display, or even offer a menu, or even suggest that we scan a QR code to see the drinks menu. Keep in mind this was my first time and my daughter's first time visiting this place so we were kind of lost. However, the other bartender is located directly in the back. When you first enter the doors you can see him working hard mixing and shaking drinks and serving the crowd like a professional mixologist. He was down-to-earth friendly and relatable. I spent all my dollars and tip money at his bar for the rest of the night and I purchased plenty of drinks all night. If I ever return to this establishment I will never patronize the other two bartenders. They need to stay at home because they do not know how to entertain their guests properly. Overall, Whiskey River is an exciting and fun place to be on a Friday or Saturday night if you want to dance or even ride the bull. Bull riding was fun but impossible to stay on during the whole ride. You will get thrown off no matter what. From the looks of the bull, it seems as if it's designed for you not to be able to stay on. Everyone gets thrown off no matter how hard you try to stay on, but it was so much fun! The dance floor is a nice size but can get overcrowded. The food is absolutely delicious, especially the beef quesadillas. Be prepared to show your ID before entering the building. There's a bouncer at the door asking the guests to show identification before being admitted. Would have given 5 stars if it hadn't been for the two rude bartenders' sore attitudes.
