This place is fantastic. DO NOT BELIEVE THE POOR REVIEWS. If you enjoy fine wine and a cozy atmosphere this is the place to go. One of the best things about this place compared to the others in the area are the prices. This is a wine store that doubles as a tasting room. You can drink quality wine without the 2x-4x up-charge tasting rooms charge for glasses or bottles of wine. His prices are very competitive to what you will find online but with the benefit of not having to incur a shipping charge if you really find something you love. He carries a large variety of wines you CAN NOT find in local stores. If you want that favorite wine that you find in a grocery store you will probably not find it here. However, If you are interested in venturing out and trying fantastic different types of wine from different regions this is your place. You only pay a small corkage fee ($6) if you buy a bottle and want to enjoy the wine there and order a cheese/meat tray, which is very good, or enjoy the live music on the weekends. The owner Ruben is extremely nice and loves to educate and answer all the questions you have and help pick a bottle that fits your palate. This place can get busy on the weekends but Ruben does a very good job getting around to everyone and answering questions and recommending wine. If you show up when it is busy just politely tell him you would like a recommendation, tasting, etc when he gets a chance and have a seat and relax. He will get to you within a few minutes and is glad to help. Just remember he is one man and EVERYONE wants to talk to him about wine. Wine is supposed to be enjoy slowly so sit back and relax and you will not be disappointed. He is happy to give free tastings to find a bottle or glass of something you like. If you want the private tasting experience and expect Rubens undivided attention from the second you walk in I suggest you go during the week or earlier in the day when he is not as busy trying to help everyone. I believe the poor reviews are from people who have unrealistic expectations when they show up at 7pm on a Saturday and expect Ruben to ignore his other customers so he can cater to whoever walks in the door at that moment. Some of these bad reviews are just shocking. If you expect free wine all night in the form of tastings you need a reality check. In California tasting rooms will charge $15-80 just for tasting wine that is half the quality of what Ruben opens up for tastings every day. If tasting an assortment of wine is all you are looking to do then you pay for a flight ($12). A glass of wine is either $8 or $12. These are very good prices considering the $8 glass is usually from a $25-35 bottle and the $12 glass is from a $45-55 bottle. Good luck trying to find a better deal considering his pours are usually 5oz or more. I highly suggest this place! read more

I called at 8:45pm and asked what time they were open until. The man on the phone who I presume to be the owner said 10 pm. My friends and I arrive for a glass of wine not planning to stay later than close but were met with a locked door. The man I spoke with answered and said they were closed. I told him I just spoke with him and he said they were open. Not sure why you're telling customers you're open when you're closed. Then turning them away at the door almost an hour before you are actually said to close on a Friday night. Not smart to do business like this in Keller. Be very careful going here. The owner will pour wine, sometimes wine you don't order or want, all the while charging for it. Any time you ask to try wine before purchasing an 8 dollar glass, you get charged for a tasting without notice. Also, if you order something and do not drink it, even if it's not poured, you will be charged. Example; ordering a white to start and the red after, if you don't want the red anymore, tough luck you are paying for it. Nice place, but this is not a respectful way to run a business. I felt scammed when I saw my bill was 3x the cost of what I ordered. We picked a bottle of wine, it was served to us and we didn't feel it was "right" the lady checked with someone else and he agreed the bottle was bad and asked us to pick a new bottle. We came on a Friday and the live music was super talented- they played acoustic guitar and sang everything from classic jazz standards to contemporary covers. We used to be regular customers of this shop - including membership in the wine club for over a year. Unfortunately we no longer patronize this business due to the rude and condescending behavior of the owner. The first time I experienced this I thought we had just caught him having a bad day. However my last couple of visits were the same. For example when I asked for a recommendation of a wine the snarky response was, "well, what makes you think you & I have the same tastes?" I don't know what caused this abrupt change in attitude - when we were new customers, like many of the reviewers we found the location & the owner quite charming. The old phrase "familiarity breeds contempt" seems to apply here. Having been on the receiving end of this unexplained contempt on more than one occasion, I will no longer shop at this business. read more

My first experience was not so good. A friend and I wanted to have wine and cheese one night and this cute place looked inviting. We read the hours on the door and walked in because we had an hour to spare. We then sat at the bar for more than five minutes in front of the owner and he said nothing to us. We didn't know if we were supposed to grab a bottle or what. Finally looking extremely confused we asked what we should do. He asked if we were a part of the wine club. When we said no he said sorry it's a private party tonight and made us leave. There was no sign on the door or outside stating this. And if it was a private party the service was not good from what I experienced on waiting. I never make a decision on first impression so I will go back and give it a second try. Fantastic little wine shop/bar. Ruben always has wines open to taste, and has a vast knowledge of wine; we've never been disappointed with his recommendation. There is usually acoustic guitar on Friday nights, and its a great atmosphere to just hang out and talk, without the club scene. Also, Ruben promotes BYOF (bring your own food). Wow! We had the most amazing Boudreaux wine tasting tonight! Excellent wines, really appreciated the owner, Rubin sharing his extensive wine knowledge, passion and expertise with us. However, when I tried to talk in spanish to them they did not like that. The wife started making racist comments all the sudden. First time in my life I felt so terrible. The husband very rude. Recently, I visited this establishment for the 6th time and was extremely disappointed with the owner's complete disrespect not only from him, but specifically his wife. My husband and I love El Wine Chateau. Living in Keller (we are in the Alliance area), it is hard to find non chain bars and restaurants. This place is a hidden treasure. First, buying wine here is a lot of fun. Ruben, the owner, has extensive knowledge of wine and we have never been disappointed with his recommendations. Wines are competitively priced. Disappointed..... I bought a Living Social deal for wine tasting. Reserved my spot for two. The night of the wine tasting my sister's special needs daughter was diagnosed with pneumonia. I called Ruben and left a message explaining the circumstances. I was concerned he had not gotten the message since he did not call me back so I drove to his store to explain and hopefully reschedule for another night. When I walked in to the I told him I had a reservation for the wine tasting but my sister was not able to join me as her daughter was diagnosed with pneumonia. Before I could say anything else he said I would be drinking two glasses of wine. I told him I wanted to cancel as I did not want to sit and drink the wine by myself. I again explained the situation with my sister and wondered if I could switch to another night. He said no. He had a wait list and could not switch me to another night. THEN I heard him on the phone telling a lady that even though he had a 24 hour cancellation policy if she needed to change just let him know ASAP. Truly cannot believe that someone with a legitimate medical emergency would not be offered the opportunity to change to another night. read more

Went to get a bottle of wine Saturday evening and the owners were having a loud argument in the store with their "friends." No one said hi to us or even acknowledged we were in the store. My sister and I went here last weekend, and the service was terrible. We both did the flight tasting, where you can try 3 wines. My sister likes white wine, and made that very clear to the two employees. They poured her 1 glass of white wine, and then said that was the only white wine they had. I could tell by looking at the bottles on display that wasn't true, so then they told us they were closing soon and didn't want to open more white wine bottles. When I asked what time they were closing, they said they were closing in 2 hours. They refused to open any white wine bottles and poured her 2 red wine glasses after the first tasting, even though she told them she doesn't like red wine. They hardly spoke to us the whole time, they took a really long time to pour us more wine when our glasses were empty, and they made us feel like we were inconveniencing them with our presence. Walked in thinking we would have a relaxing evening talking & drinking wine so wrong! Stay away from this place! It gave me the opposite effect and for my blood pressure up. Started off okay after not being acknowledged for 15 minutes but we were browsing wine bottles anyway around the store. We decide to get a glass of wine and cheese platter. The owner waits on another 2 that got there after us and doesn't bring our cheese platter out for 20 min or so. We thought he forgot about it or didn't hear when we ordered. Then I needed to go to the restroom so I ask the owners wife and she proceeds to follow beside me. I was thinking she was showing me so I follow her and I end up in her back kitchen. She yells at me to the left, to the left! This doesn't tip it off. They ask twice if we want anymore wine I say no and it's like they are trying to get us to leave and bring the bill together for me and my friend. I go up to the register and ask if they can split the bill between my friend and I but she had one more glass of wine than me. (Usually they remember what you have anyway)He was like tell me exactly how you want me to do it write it down. So I wrote split the cheese platter between us two with the calculation. He was like no i said exactly how you want me to do it. The total she be this... I was like really you want me to divide the tax between us to? So I divided that and told him the exact price to charge on each card. Then after my calculations i was like okay got it and he acted like he didn't hear me and started putting bottles of wine up. Then he proceeded to make a rude comment saying you act like your never gonna see each other again. My friend was like well we don't go out that much. I was thinking like we need to explain anything to you. Also, before we left he said don't forget to tip the musicians. My friend said she has no cash so he turned to me and said do you have cash? I said no, oh wait I may have a dollar in my purse. He said if you think they are worth only one dollar! He held up both of our receipts and said do you want to add the tip for them on here? I grabbed my friend and said let's go. My friend still gave a 5 buck tip. I gave 2 because yes the owner and his wife were only worth one dollar in my book. Really that was a courtesy because they should had received zero tip!!! We both will not be going back of course and I will tell everyone to stay away unless you want rude, non relaxing, over priced wine and they barely poor any in the glass for 12 bucks. The cheese platter is 12 bucks and when I ran in the back kitchen by accident saw cheese just laying on the counter out in the open with no cover. I am so livid! read more
