I've encountered this concept during a trip to Boerne, TX before Covid but only for wines. This is the first time I've seen a whiskey wall. If you are like me who wants to try higher end whiskey, come during happy hour for their 20% off special which is reflected on the small screen before dispensing. Whiskeys on their dispensing machines allow guests to choose from 1oz, 1.5oz, or 2oz pours. The place is dark and have that speakeasy feel to it but they have a nice outside back patio if that's the vibe you are looking for. Heard so much good thing about this place and it is the first time I've encounter a pour your own whiskey and wine at a same place. Friday date night with the hubby and we decided to checkout this spot because he loves his whiskey! It's about a 30 minute drive from downtown Dallas. Super cute - laid back lounge vibe. It's a comfortable and private place where I've seen people go after work, to start off ladies night, etc. The service is always quick and helpful since the bar is well staffed. I visited Social Oak recently while visit Dallas. This restaurant isn't' located in Dallas, about a 30-40 minute drive outside of Dallas. They have a menu with quite a few tshareables and some fulls dishes. We had the escargot and ahi tuna tacos. I didn't care for the escargot, but my friend loved it. Just not for me but she said they were great. I loved the Ahi tuna tacos. They came with 4 tacos, typical wonton shell tacos with the chilled tuna and fixings inside. The service was great. My waiter was very polite and very helpful. He explained the pour your own concept to me and suggested some good wines as well. He was attentive but allowed us to enjoy the night. The ambiance was great. Very mature and calm. The patio was nice and apparently they sale cigars, but don't quote me on. They have a mice's seating arrangement including the bar; high top cocktail tables, high top dining tables, and lounge seating. We went to Social Oak on a Friday evening with plans to have "a drink". Service was fantastic from the time we walked in the door. We were promptly seated, even without a reservation - we felt lucky to get a table - Social Oak was quite busy. Our waitress was prompt and attentive. Having not been to Social Oak before, she showed us how the 'pour your own' wine and whiskey system worked. One of us had a few tastings of various wines, the other had Old Fashioneds. We had a couple appetizers, a tuna taco and a Margherita pizza. Both were great. Our waitress and an assisting waiter kept tabs on our table and other tables, never let water glasses get empty, was prompt with orders. We will be back again. Social Oak, you're a winner! read more

I thought this place was really cool and was initially very concerned that the food would be subpar but the Food was really very good. We had the truffle fries and tuna tacos and sampled about 4 different wines -- all of which were good. They also have a on-staff sommelier that helps you if you need it. My only critical feedback is: The high top chairs, while nice enough, should be larger, with arms and backs, so you can be really comfortable and stay longer. The wine choice were a little less mainstream than I hoped. Perhaps that is the appeal for others, but I love Napa wines and they were in the minority. read more

Came here just out of the blue but was pleasantly surprised. They have a great selection of whiskies and wine. The staff was amazingly polite and attentive. To be honest, I think the staff was extra friendly in a good way. The whiskey is a bit over priced but normal pricing at an upscale whiskey bar so really can't judge them on their pricing. Great bar. This is a much need addition to Trophy Club!! The ambiance is very similar to Catbird- more lounge/cocktail bar than restaurant. They have a wide variety of wines (both by the glass and bottle list) as well as a great bourbon selection. Plus a full bar of wine/whiskey isn't your thing. They also have lite bites- I highly recommend the beef carpaccio and truffle pasta. The Sommelier, Chris, is extremely knowledgeable- it was fun to geek out over wine and meet someone who shares a passion for great vino. Cute place! My husband and I popped in to have some dinner and drinks. Everyone was very nice, and this place is aesthetically pleasing. The vibe just has it going on. I was impressed with the self serve whiskey collection, just missing the tequila . Wine selection looked good, but I was in the mood for an old fashioned. I ordered it smoked and it was delicious! We tried the charcuterie tray, as well as the pork bao sliders. Both were very good, and I can't wait to sample other items on menu. We enjoyed everything we ordered. I ordered the Greek Salad with chicken. The chicken was missed but then brought once we let our waiter know. The chicken was grilled and very tender. The charcuterie for 4 was good, a nice combination of cheeses, nothing fancy. Deviled eggs are traditional and very creamy. Shrimp flat bread was really good. Lobster shooters were good. The lobster part was really hard to actually taste lobster but the sauce was lovely with just a touch of flavor.we enjoyed sitting in the lounge area and enjoying our drink, food and company while we celebrated a birthday. It's just a bar with munchies.. way over priced munchies at that.. great wine selection but bring your big boy pants, they are way way way over priced for the wines...food was mediocre at best.. sliders were mushy buns with cheap hamburger. Ahi tacos were more cucumber than Ahi.. again, way over priced. Seating is horrible.. bar stools with no backs at a small cocktail table or cushy seats that make accessing your food a stretch.. A couple of months ago we tried to walk into Social Oak, but it was full. I finally made a reservation and we went with another couple tonight. It is a very nicely decorated, comfortable setting inside. The employees are friendly and service is not super fast, but we were not in a rush, so it was fine. Colleen, our waitress, did a good job even though she was very busy. Supposedly, you are supposed to be able to get your own drinks with cards. We were told the system was not working, so our waitress would be serving our drinks like a regular restaurant. We did notice some people had the black cards and were getting their own drinks, so maybe it was fixed while we were there... My first wine was very good Torres Salmos. My second was disappointing. After we got the bill and paid I noticed I had not been given the wine I ordered second, Vega Sicilia Alion, but was given Hamilton Russell, instead. At least, that is what I was charged for. I guess that explains why I didn't care for it. I hope to go back when the self-serve is working. We all agreed the food was very good. The Deviled Eggs were delicious, the Tuna Tacos were even better and the crab cakes (2 per order) were amazing. We went for the first time a few weeks ago. It was an amazing atmosphere. There were short tables with comfortable seating. A few high tables as well if you're interested in having a dinner entrée. We opted for a short table and ordered lots of little bites. The cauliflower tapenade was by far our favorite thing. They even brought out extra cauliflower bread when we ran out. We also ordered the board for 2. It had antipasti meats, artisan cheeses, fresh and dried fruit, olives, chocolate covered almonds, and fig jam. The deviled eggs were also very good. We chose a few more small dishes to take home and share with our they were well packaged to go. The card system for the whiskey and wine by the pour was new to us but worked well. You just swipe your card, put your glass under the spout, and push the button for how many ounces you'd like.
