I've encountered this concept during a trip to Boerne, TX before Covid but only for wines. This is the first time I've seen a whiskey wall. If you are like me who wants to try higher end whiskey, come during happy hour for their 20% off special which is reflected on the small screen before dispensing. We were promptly seated, even without a reservation - we felt lucky to get a table - Social Oak was quite busy. Our waitress was prompt and attentive. Having not been to Social Oak before, she showed us how the 'pour your own' wine and whiskey system worked. One of us had a few tastings of various wines, the other had Old Fashioneds. We had the truffle fries and tuna tacos and sampled about 4 different wines -- all of which were good. They also have a on-staff sommelier that helps you if you need it. My only critical feedback is: The high top chairs, while nice enough, should be larger, with arms and backs, so you can be really comfortable and stay longer. This is a much need addition to Trophy Club!! The ambiance is very similar to Catbird- more lounge/cocktail bar than restaurant. They have a wide variety of wines (both by the glass and bottle list) as well as a great bourbon selection. Plus a full bar of wine/whiskey isn't your thing. They also have lite bites- I highly recommend the beef carpaccio and truffle pasta. The Sommelier, Chris, is extremely knowledgeable- it was fun to geek out over wine and meet someone who shares a passion for great vino. A couple of months ago we tried to walk into Social Oak, but it was full. I finally made a reservation and we went with another couple tonight. It is a very nicely decorated, comfortable setting inside. The employees are friendly and service is not super fast, but we were not in a rush, so it was fine. Colleen, our waitress, did a good job even though she was very busy. Supposedly, you are supposed to be able to get your own drinks with cards. We were told the system was not working, so our waitress would be serving our drinks like a regular restaurant. We did notice some people had the black cards and were getting their own drinks, so maybe it was fixed while we were there... My first wine was very good Torres Salmos. My second was disappointing. After we got the bill and paid I noticed I had not been given the wine I ordered second, Vega Sicilia Alion, but was given Hamilton Russell, instead. At least, that is what I was charged for. I guess that explains why I didn't care for it. I hope to go back when the self-serve is working. We all agreed the food was very good. The Deviled Eggs were delicious, the Tuna Tacos were even better and the crab cakes (2 per order) were amazing. We went for the first time a few weeks ago. It was an amazing atmosphere. There were short tables with comfortable seating. A few high tables as well if you're interested in having a dinner entrée. We opted for a short table and ordered lots of little bites. The cauliflower tapenade was by far our favorite thing. They even brought out extra cauliflower bread when we ran out. We also ordered the board for 2. It had antipasti meats, artisan cheeses, fresh and dried fruit, olives, chocolate covered almonds, and fig jam. The deviled eggs were also very good. We chose a few more small dishes to take home and share with our they were well packaged to go. The card system for the whiskey and wine by the pour was new to us but worked well. You just swipe your card, put your glass under the spout, and push the button for how many ounces you'd like.
