I got theTexas fajita Presidente style I believe it's called. It comes with Bacon in it, well something happened where it was not cooked in with the food and was brought out as a side for us to add in. I broke the bacon up and mixed it in the food, of course it takes away from the overall experience doing it that way. If the bacon was cooked in with everything they was it should have been , it would have been much much better experience. That mistake and the only reason why I did not give this 5 stars. Had a good variety of food, came on a Thursday night and was pretty quiet. I ordered the vegetable fajitas and margarita. The vegetable fajitas were good came with guac, and the standard rice, beans, verges and with 4 corn tortilla wraps. Overall it was good. The margarita was to strong, my friend and I could barely finish because it was extra. I thought the atmosphere was pretty typical bar seating, booths, decorations. We tried this place merely because of the location, but we loved it! The server was very nice and attentive. I ordered the chicken fajita nachos, and I must say they're pretty high on my list of favorite nachos. The cheese was queso instead of shredded, which is always a plus. Just a block from downtown Roswell, El Zarape offers a nice option for Mexican food before going out for drinks downtown. The food was good and our service was timely, although we were one of 4 tables in the restaurant because of the time we arrived. I would definitely come back and recommend it if asked for a Mexican restaurant in Roswell. I had the chicken burrito combination plate and while the main entree was good the beans and rice on the side were just okay. Well, this place kind of surprised me to be honest. Out of all the times I've been in downtown Roswell i would have never thought to go here, and thank god I did. Decided to meet some friends that are leaving town and they picked this place, hence why being surprised about it, arrived around 730pm on a Saturday and it was somewhat packed. We quickly got seated and decided to order some appetizers. Got some Guacamole (the regular kind, vs the right now Guac, just ask the server) and some beers. Didn't know what to order, so while conversing with the waitress she recommended the burrito and fajitas. Going along with what she said, decided to get the Chicken + Steak fajitas, and damn Im glad I paid attention. The sizzling plate arrives, I let it cool down for a couple of seconds, and immediately get a taste of the chicken. Man it was delicious I tell you, not overcooked, very well seasoned, and on point, same goes for the steak. Overall, we will keep checking this place out next time we are in the area, such a good place, kind of sad that it took me this long to eat there. Check it out people! read more

I think it's high time I admit it out in the open for any and all to see. I'm a guacamole-holic. In fact, I'd go so far as to just admit that I'm a slut for good guacamole. You give me some good guac that I can slather all over my Mexican food? You've got a pal for life. We went to El Zarape on Cinco de Mayo and the place was (understandably) hopping. However, the extremely friendly hostess got us seated right away, and our very nice server brought out some chips with some decent salsa in mere minutes. The Other Half and I both had the taco plate: me weighing in with two steak and one chorizo; him with two chicken and a beef. I also ordered a side of beans. The taco plate said it came with guac, which lead me to believe I didn't need an additional side. God, I'm a dumbass sometimes. The tacos were your standard, everyday tacos. You've had them at your local Mexican restaurant: reliable, fills a hole, probably not worth a special trip. Good flavor, and if I wasn't in the mood to hightail it over to Buford Highway, this makes an easy local option. But what is this portion of guacamole I got all excited about? This wasn't enough for even an anorexic midget. They were busy, and we had a movie to make, so I ate my guac and my OH's as well. No big deal. This was once a great little dive Mexican restaurant. Now it's a fancier Mexican restaurant with a more elaborate menu.

I'm surprised why such the high ratings because the food is mediocre at best. In reality, it's not very good at all. I've been here a couple of times, and neither time did I really enjoy my experience. In fact, the last time, I straight up did not like it at all. I ordered the vegetarian burrito, which the waiter had told me came with onions, beans, lettuce, and green peppers. When I got my dish, it was lettuce and pico on the side, and the burrito was literally just black beans inside. I was so mad, not what I was craving nor expecting at all. And I felt so ripped off. I spend $12 and change on a soda and a can of black beans inside a flour tortilla. For the couple of good things, aka why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1. As others have mentioned, they do have really nice people who work there and really good customer service. Also, the location is really sweet being right there in downtown Roswell. read more

Yeah folks. I would skip this one. The salsa is so bland is odd that they haven't made any changes. Another yelper had it right. Tastes like canned tomatoes. I ordered a huge spread of the fajitas, enchiladas, Chile relanos, etc. the best part: Chile Relanos. If you do find yourself here, get them. They are delicious. It's really not difficult to please me when it comes to Mexican restaurants. And El Zarape typically always pleases me. Are the margaritas delicious and affordable? Yes. Is the cheese dip creamy and hot? You bet! Is there ever a wait for a table? Nope! And most importantly: are the chimichangas good? They're incredible! A few (minor) negatives: 1.) They sometimes don't run their air conditioning so it gets humid inside. 2.) I once had to send back a plate of nachos because the ground beef wasn't fully cooked - it was still reddish-pink. But they were totally accommodating! Otherwise, this El Zarape is an excellent place to go to satisfy your South-of-the-border cravings. read more

Carnitas are very good. Most of the rest is fairly average. Service is good, but not spectacular. The small deck is very enjoyable on a sunny day. Salsa is pretty decent as well, even if a little watery. the prices are reasonable and the location is great. That will keep me coming back. read more

Possibly one of the worst Mexican restaurant experiences and Margaritas I've ever had. We ordered two Texas margaritas, after specifically confirming with our (clueless) waitress that there would be 2 types of tequila. What we received was watered down sugar water, with no tequila. Not even the faintest taste, or smell, of alcohol in either of our drinks. If I order a Texas margarita, I'd at least hope to be able to smell a hint of tequila in the drink. Not a drop. Felt not even the slightest buzz. We told the waitress there was no tequila and she got defensive. I think Taco Bell could make me a better margarita. Also the "table side" guacamole is not table side and is not guacamole...it's a plate of large chunks of avocados and onions that we had to mash and mix ourselves with a fork. Save yourself the money and head to El Torrero in Roswell instead if you want good Mexican food. Lousy service also. read more

The reason I decided to try this restaurant is because I'm craving flan. The other Mexican restaurants near me didn't have desserts on the delivery menu. I received my order but the flan was missing. I called the restaurant and their response was for me to go pick it up from the restaurant myself or get a refund for the flan. I explained to them that if I could leave the house, I wouldn't have paid $2.49 for delivery and $3.97 for a service fee and I would've went to pick it up myself being that they're just 2 miles from my house. I asked for the manager. She said that it was a mistake and she's short staffed so I can pick it up at the restaurant or contact Uber eats for a refund on the flan. At no point did anyone apologize for THEIR mistake. Horrible customer service. read more

Let me start by saying this restaurant advertises delivery on eat24hours.com, however, of the 4 times I have ordered delivery for lunch I have only received 2 deliveries. The other 2 times I had to call myself to see when my delivery would arrive and was informed that they had no car or drivers for delivery that day, but that my food had been ready for over 45 mins... So let me get this straight... I order delivery, the restaurant, knowing my phone number, does not call me to inform me of this but instead cooks my food and leaves it to sit for almost an hour.... TWICE!!! Oh and they hung up on me the 2nd time. I gave them multiple chances, but no more. This is no way to run a business. If you do not have reliable transportation then do not offer delivery. read more

We ordered in for delivery to our office. Ordering 6 meals, one large sweet tea and one larege unsweet tea without ice. We were charged for $1.95 for both. When the food and drinks arrived the drinks were two different sizes. The unsweet tea without ice was in a small cup. Upon calling El zarape they said that the small cup was a LARGE drink without ice, if they sent the large cup they would have had to charge us for two drinks. They didn't tell us this at the time of ordering, if they had I would not have paid $1.95 for 16 oz of tea. I have never had this issue before. Whenever I get food to go, I order it without ice and always get the size of drink that I order without any additional cost. Word of Advise: DON'T ORDER DRINKS TO GO. read more

Over the years I have ate from El Zarape (previously El Zorrito) via dine in, carry out and delivery dozens, I'd say 100+ times. That's why it pains me somewhat to write this review. The food has pretty much always been very good. Not enough problems over the years to mention. However, tonight, as it has been at times in the past, it was the management that failed the establishment. Me and my two kids went in to eat this evening. We were later going than usual, but according to a deal site they promote on, still an hour and 15 minutes from close. It's hard to tell with them, once again, a management issue. Some sources state an hour earlier closer time, and you won't find hours posted at the restaurant. Regardless, we settled in and quickly ordered as we pretty much always get the same thing. Service was attentive and prompt, and there were no issues to speak of, as is typical, with the exception of one snafu at the end. At the end of our meal, we requested take out boxes which we received promptly. As we received our food quite quickly, we still had two bowls of salsa on the table that were both 3/4's full. Their salsa is very good, so I then asked for a container to put the leftover salsa in. This is apparently where I crossed the line. Instead of bringing an empty container, our server then grabbed the bowls off the table and brought us out a pint of salsa in a container. I had only asked for a container. I would've happily poured it in myself. With the speed he came out with the filled container, I can only assume it was fresh salsa, though I'm not sure. At this time I had already received my check total (with tax) in the amount of $41.71. I slapped down my credit card and decided to run to the restroom, while the check was being handled. When I arrive back from the restroom, I notice things have been handled, with one exception, my card has been charged an additional $4.28 for a pint of salsa. At this point, the restaurant is empty and a few minutes from closing. Are you kidding me? I was floored that they would add to my check, then run the charge without notifying me first. Seriously? That is considered theft guys. You can't do that! I've worked in restaurants all my life, the majority as the GM. I've also worked for tips, so I know what servers, drivers, etc. go through. This experience also makes me be sure that my children are quiet and well behaved, even the grown one, and we "bus" the table as we eat, stacking dishes, picking up straw wrappers, napkins, etc. making it as easy on servers and bussers as possible. As a manager, here you had two options, A: let a regular customer that always tips 20-30% take the salsa you were going to throw in the trash home, or B: try to milk another $4 out of the customer. Just a tidbit of info out there Mr. Manager; B is not going to make your customer happy either way, nor is it going to help your bottom line. You're either going to get a person that accepts it, pays the extra money and most likely never goes back, all the while telling people he knows to stay away, or you're going to get me, a person that will do the same thing as the other guy, but also makes sure every review site knows how you treat excellent tipping, regular customers. Over the years I've ate at more Mexican restaurants than I can remember. However, the times I've asked for some salsa to go, I've never been charged extra for it, even if it was pulled from their fresh batch in the middle of the day. Frequently they were happy to throw in chips to go as well. Several of these were just one stop visits passing through or on vacation with the exception of OtB, who always gives me chips and salsa to go with a smile. I even walked up to the manager while a credit card void was being done, and my order charged a second time and informed him of my history with his restaurant, and how I'd never had a similar problem elsewhere. He made it clear that he didn't care. Was an extra $4.28 going to break me? Of course not. But with this attitude, I can't see this establishment being worth my time, trouble and money anymore. Oh and after my words here you still decide to go, get a price quote for your alcoholic beverages if you care. The prices aren't on the menu, and no server seems to be able to tell you what they are (another management issue). I'm not big on surprises when it comes to money and my beer here was $3 more than it is at another Mexican place just down the road. Yet another reason to cut off El Zarape like a diseased hand. Lastly, I'd like to state that I still gave the server the $9 tip I had planned on before leaving for the restroom. I even made sure I had cash for it, as I know from experience the problems that can arise from claiming credit card tips. If he'd just brought the container as I'd asked, the whole issue probably wouldn't have come to light, but it's not his fault for working with management that doesn't have a clue. read more

When I tried to order online, the website stated I was not in delivery area. I called in to ask if they can deliver to sandy springs, because I live literally 5 minutes from the restaurant, and the lady was very helpful. I got my order with in 45 minutes, and it was all warm, and delicious! I come from a Mexican-Puerto Rican background and cook Mexican food very well myself, and I must say their food hit the spot. I have found a Mexican food restaurant I can trust, and order from whenever I feel lazy to cook on my own. Discovered the El Zarape a few years ago. Would go there occasionally. Pretty good food and definitely good margaritas! Nice local spot. The last time I went I ordered beef enchiladas. One was not hot at all and tasted a little off. The others were the usual, good. Should have sent the one back! Spent a good portion of the night getting sick from that enchilada.
