Food is always good here. The owner and staff are always happy to see you with good energy. I usually take out but the place usually has some music playing or music videos on the screen.

Total hole in the wall BUT that just makes it even better! The man at the cash register was SUPER friendly and very helpful since we were deciding. The food was really good and they have instant coffee which they have three flavors for. We got the one with cinnamon and it was so good! They have TVs inside and they play music at a good level so you can still have a conversation and not compete with music or noise. They checked in on us a couple times and made sure we were good and didn't need anything and at the end they let us fill up our water bottles with water so the staff is all around friendly and helpful, the atmosphere was pleasant and I would definitely go here again! The person I went with said the same thing so every time we go to Simi Valley we are coming to El Zarape! And we def want to spread the word !!!!!

Dropped in on an evening on the weekend and bought a couple street tacos and a wet carne asada burrito. Hands down some of the best Mexican food we've had. Well seasoned meat, good portion size, friendly service. Will definitely come back to support this nice small family business!!

I absolutely love this place. This is hands down my FAVORITE spot to get street tacos in Simi Valley. The owner has taken my order every single time and has always given such a warm welcome into his restaurant. Service is extremely as well. The al pastor tacos definitely pass the vibe check! Meat is juicy and tasty and their salsa has the right amount of spice. I believe you can get red salsa or green salsa, I usually mix both onto my tacos. I have gotten steak (carne asada) tacos before and I do have to admit, the meat for that is a tad bit dry, but still good! For a drink, I always go with a classic, the horchata. It has not let me down yet. This time, my boyfriend and I decided to order nachos to share. They have two options for meat, steak and chicken. Even though my steak tacos have been dry in the past, we still wanted to try the steak nachos here and they were okay. The steak was not as dry as I expected! It was a little tough to scoop because the cheese was hardened onto the chips and plate, but honestly did not mind it that much. I will keep coming back whenever I have a craving for tacos in Simi!

1st time here, service was fair, prices are decent. Food was good! Flavors were on point. Will definitely come back to try other foods. The establishment is a bit small but comfortable for our table of 5.

I've been going here for the past year now and I think I can definitely say that this is the best authentic Mexican spot in town. The workers here are always very nice and their service is always amazing. I have never waited long for my food and there has never been a long wait either. I always order Al pastor tacos with some papusas. I do wish that their tacos didn't come with onion and cilantro, and would rather have it available at a salsa bar where i can choose how much i can put in my tacos. Definitely will continue to come here whenever I'm craving some Mexican food. I'm not sure if this place still does promotions like 'Taco Tuesday' and others because I've seen photos of it on Yelp, but whenever I go there I don't see the signs anymore; could be an old promotion.

The kanpachi tostada was also great, and the uni with scallop was a nice pairing. Fish tacos were good but not as memorable as the raw dishes. Also tried the smoked kanpachi taco but again not outstanding compared to the raw seafood. Their sauces were also good but spicy! The light brown one had a unique flavor to it and was my favorite but also the spiciest so be aware. Price - On the higher end as expected from a Michelin 1 star, but the quality on the raw dishes justifies it. Wouldn't say every dish is worth the price, but most of them were good. Ambience - This is a food hall setup, you order at the counter, get a number, and they'll bring your food to you. Lines can get long, especially since it seems busy most days now. If the wait isn't worth it, there are other solid-looking vendors in the same food hall to check out. Parking - Small paid lot on site, or street parking nearby. Disrespectful ownership…read more I was at Pupuseria La Estrella yesterday and personally witnessed what happened with a family. I normally don't write reviews about situations that don't involve me directly, but after seeing how this family was treated, I feel compelled to speak up. The father calmly brought a price discrepancy to the employee's attention. He was not rude or disrespectful. He simply explained that the menu clearly showed one price for what he ordered and he was over charged and that he expected the advertised price to be honored. The employee explained that the menu was outdated and what he was charged was the new price. The customer again calmly explained his position. Another woman came out and repeated that the posted menu on their wall had the wrong price and the price he was charged was the correct amount. Then things took a very disappointing turn. After the customer mentioned that the advertised price should be honored and that he could report the pricing discrepancy to the Better Business Bureau, a woman who appeared to be the owner became involved. From what I witnessed, instead of trying to resolve the situation professionally, she instructed the staff to refund the customer and kick his entire family out of the restaurant. I was sitting there and witnessed this unfold firsthand. What bothered me most was that the customer wasn't screaming, threatening anyone, or causing a scene. He was simply standing up for what he believed was right after seeing an advertised price that didn't match what he was being charged. And all of this happened over a couple of bucks. As another customer sitting there, it was uncomfortable and honestly shocking to watch. Businesses are going to make mistakes. Prices change. Menus don't always get updated. But when that happens, the appropriate response is to apologize, acknowledge the mistake, and make the customer feel respected. The lady who kicked them out just showed no interest in doing the right thing. Very disrespectful to the man and his family. After witnessing what happened I don't think I will ever come back. Small business that treats paying customers this way don't deserve to be supported by our C-Town community. I hope ownership takes a serious look at how this situation was handled because the food may be docent, but good customer service means nothing if customers aren't treated with basic respect when there is a disagreement. I witnessed it firsthand, and in my opinion, the way this family was treated was completely unnecessary and unprofessional by the trashy talk of that lady.

We enjoyed the empanadas, I think for our group of 5 we ordered at least 20 empanadas and 3 plates to try. I asked a man behind the counter I need a order for 2/3 dozen on Sunday around 12pm. He said not a problem, I should call Sunday at 10 to place the order. I asked "are you sure" he responded it would only take 20 minutes. Problem number 1: No one was answering the phone Sunday morning, I called multiple times. Problem number 2: It take forever to place the order via the website AND there is a superfluous "support local fee" that cannot be opted out. I want this refunded. As someone who invited the group to dinner there Wed where we spent at least $150ish to my order for Sunday around $170, how dare a "support local fee" be added that could have been avoided if someone answered the phone. Problem number 3: The order was 30 mins late. Lack of personal awareness regarding your capability to answer phones and prepare orders on time is a problem. My first and second experience was so vastly different, beyond disappointing, on a day where I am putting things together to host a party it caused unnecessary stress I sent an email and didn't hear back and wanted to post my experience.
