Start with the good. We've loved this place and were patrons for for years. We've not been back for 7-8 months so wanted to get our Cuban-food crave on. The atmosphere is nice and workers friendly. Our waitress was very sweet and helpful. My husband ordered his favorite, the fried pork chunks (she helped him pronounce it correctly in Spanish) and I got the pollo asada and roast pork combo. My husband was served a different pork dish so they went back to quickly make his correct order. It came back barely warm, and looked to be a Very small portion to what he's received many times in the past. Also unfortunately half were pieces of fat. My chicken, while tasty, was overcooked and not the juicy dish we've had many many times in the past. The beans, & plantains were delicious. A really good Cuban restaurant in Santa Clarita, who'd a thunk it??? El Cubano is located in a nondescript strip mall but it's a quiet room with a chill vibe and some terrific Cuban food. The "papas rellenas" are huge and filled with picadillo that's almost as good as my (Cuban) Mom's. The Cuban sandwich is tasty and generous and the fries that come with are completely on point; there's nothing to suggest the other menu items aren't as good, or even better. Restaurant is in a strip mall. They played Cuban salsa. Service was quick. Even though it was lunch hour on a Saturday, the restaurant was empty. The garlic bread is amazing. The coffee is strong. They have Cuban sodas. Didn't particularly care for the black beans or moros. Not bad but just not home cooking. Highly recommend the 1/2 chicken. It was delicious. Amazing, authentic and tasteful experience here at El Cubano. From the minute you open the door you're greeted with beautiful smiles and very welcoming ambiance. I started off with the empanadas and sangria. Both the chicken and beef empanadas were delicious. Watch out for that sangria because the effects really does sneak up on you. I ordered the oxtail stew with white rice and plantains and a side of moros y cristianos. All I can say is wow! Everything thing was great. First time trying Cuban food in general. But let's just say that the place or the service is the reason for the 3 stars. I'd give that 5 starts if i can. i ordered the empanadas (2 beef,1Chicken) Those were very tasty and good. Highly recommend trying them out, especially with the green sauce. (The beef tasted way better than the chicken). Now for the entrees, I'm really not sure what all the hype is about the Oxtail Stew. It's really not worth all that hype. It was very, very bland, IMO. It was definitely not worth it. It comes with 3 sides btw: Yellow rice, Beans, and plantains We also got the garlic-roasted chicken, Now all i can say about that. That it was chicken lol. There's not much to it, Just like any other regular chicken I've had. Nothing special about it. Also, Comes with the same 3 sides. Don't get me wrong again. The place is great. Very clean, very maintained and really friendly staff. That is helping you all the time. It was just the food, I did not feel it. Hate to say that I left disappointed. We'v driven past this place for years, and we finally decided to try it. We're glad we did! My wife had the garlic roasted chicken, which she loved, I enjoyed the shredded pork, which has a subtle, delicious flavor. It is a small-ish restaurant, probably family owned, with a warm and friendly ambiance throughout. We really wanted to like this place. But it's hard to enjoy your food while listening to the owner (lady) complaining with another table about her financial situation and stating how badly she needs a drink. Not really a good 1st impression especially trying to enjoy Valentine's Day with my partner who I was trying to surprise with his Cuban side. .I didn't understand the garlic bread it wasn't even toasted, they never offered to refill my ice tea or ask my parentner if he wanted something else to drink. The Shrimp Yellow Rice and beans were really good but the Ropa Vieja tasted like a roast from the crock pot with added tomatoes, nothing special. Idk I had high hopes for it being 4.8 but I think we will keep going to the Valley for our Cuban fix. read more

I see that some people like the food at that restaurant and I did too, but today I ordered Arroz con Pollo. The worse or simply not good at all because I never had this experience before. It is mostly simple yellow rice, hardly any flavor. The chicken is pale as if it was boiled and than simple added to the rice to cook some more with it. The skin of the wing was totally soft and pale. Definitely never sautéed. The amount of chicken was very little. A wind a part of one half of a breast. When I ordered over the phone I asked if it would come with a salad or bread. I was told no. I thought that was unusual. It did have 3 pieces of plantain. Maybe because I asked what came with it, but unfortunately, I have never given plantain with Arroz con Pollo. It does not go together. I get the impression that the current owners are not cuban. The food is always delicious here !! I get the half lemon chicken meal with rice and beans and my husband gets the Cuban beef sandwich . We never leave without having the beef empanadas that comes with a cilantro sauce that's to die for. We always end our dinner with the Cuban flan. It's one of the most tastiest flans I have ever had, it's a must try. The restaurant is a small but spacious establishment. You are greeted right when you walk in and the server will go over the menu with you if you are having trouble finding what you want.
