Good lord this is good! I've been jones-ing for good casual Greek eats since I left Boston, and I always came up disappointed, until I discovered Ela. I was visiting the pet store next store when I noticed this shiny, clean gem that emitted the familiar odor of delish! I'm a huge fan of 4 dishes: Lamp wrap; Chicken wrap; shaved beef bowl; and, lamb bowl. Highly recommend you go with their tzatziki sauce. You really can't go wrong with any of the dishes, but I will say their chicken is among the best I've ever had (and I don't usually order chicken). They also have delicious Greek fries, but you have to eat them freshly served, as they don't hold well when they cool off. Don't love their baklava, but that's only because I like them super sweet, dripping in honey. Huge recommend! read more

Stopped by for a quick lunch to go- husband got the lamb gyro sandwich, I got the chicken gyro sandwich and we got the spanakopita to share. We hadn't ordered before hand but the food was ready within 7 mins. The gyros were delicious- fresh salad, delicious creamy fresh tzatziki in both, fluffy-warm-soft pita- and we both preferred the chicken to lamb, the lamb flavor was a little over powering whereas with the chicken, everything was allowed to shine. The gyros were filling and very satisfying but ofcourse I always over order, so then we dig into the spanakopita- so good again; packed with spinach and feta and served with a side of tzatziki. If you haven't tried Ela yet, do yourself (and your family) a favor - stop what you are doing, cancel your dinner plans, and order Ela. We eat out only about once per week and Ela has basically ruined all other takeout for us. It's the best and most authentic Greek food outside of Greece. The food is so fresh, it's cooked to perfection, and the flavors are just unbeatable. The owner clearly is passionate about food and takes pride in his craft. The SALAD is crisp, with flavorful crumbling feta, red onions marinated to perfection, and a dressing that is literally the perfect ratio of olive oil to red wine vinegar and herbs. The LAMB is mouthwatering - crispy on the outside and falling apart on the inside. If you like lamb, look no further, but for non-lamb-loving folks, the BRISKET and the CHICKEN are also absolutely fabulous (chicken and rice for the kids for the win - make sure to order sauce on the side for the kids). Don't get me started on the EXOHIKO - it's like a chicken pot pie phyllo dough burrito that can only be described as heavenly. And if you haven't had the GALAKTOBOUREKO (a semolina custard phyllo dough Greek dessert), don't try the one from Ela because it will ruin every other Galaktoboureko you will ever try (and also because we don't want them to run out before we put our weekly order in). read more

Yum yum! My friend recommended this place to me. He's Greek and says that this is an amazing spot for authentic Greek food. This is a "fast casual" spot: you order at the counter and wait for them to make your food. There are a couple small tables inside the restaurant, but it's quite warm inside the restaurant, so I'm not sure if I'd want to dine in there. Seems like this is a very popular take-out spot. While waiting for my food, I saw a steady stream of people stopping by to order take-out or picking up take-out. Given that the food seems to be made to order, I'd recommend ordering in advanced for take-out, so you don't have to wait as long. I ordered the bowl, since this seemed to have a good combination of everything. Oh my gosh...the lamb is sooooo delicious! So flavorful, but not gamey. Tender. But with a nice char on the outside. The rice was pretty good too. They put a lot of tzatziki sauce, but as others have mentioned, their tzatziki sauce is delicious! This unassuming little fast casual joint in a strip mall on Lincoln Blvd really f****d me up with its excellence. I've been to Greece a few times and count the cuisine as a favorite, but it's been difficult to replicate what I ate there in the states. Real greek salads with that weighty slab of feta, never crumbled. Thick roasted lamb leg, never chicken, and not just gyro. Ela's perfectly executed greek salad with shaved lamb leg -- thick, with a tenderness inside that just falls apart once the crispy seal is broken -- has made the dream real again. Both are super fresh and refreshing... they use really fresh ingredients only and real feta cheese. Everything was super fresh, healthy, clean, and had a homemade feel. The highlights were the lamb, quinoa, hummus, and tzatziki because they were extremely flavorful, probably the best quinoa I've ever had. The Greek salad had perfect dressing. I'll keep it brief. I grew up in a very Greek neighborhood in New York and this was, I feel very confident saying, the best lamb gyro I've ever had. Yes, a little smaller than I'm used to, but what it lacks in size it more than compensates in tender, succulent and generous flakes of lamb and the most sublimely fresh, hot, crispy-outside-pillowy-inside pita I've ever encountered. All for maybe $12 with tip. Kind and attentive staff just made it all the more pleasant. Venice needs quality Mediterranean food and I hope Ela is here to stay. Popped in here for lunch today. Ela's had been on my radar for awhile, and I'm so glad I was finally able to try it out. It's a smallish place inside a corner strip mall. Parking can be tricky, but we were able to find a spot. I knew going in that I was going to try three of the "classic" dishes and a salad, and I was not disappointed! We got a Greek salad with chicken, the spanakopita, mousaka, and chicken exohiko. I think the mousaka was my favorite. It, by far, had the most robust flavor. I usually can't stand eggplant, but the eggplant and zucchini in this were a nice balance to the deep and warm flavors of the ground beef. The Greek bechamel was a cool, tangy kick. I liked the chicken exohiko next. The ingredients were all a bit inconsistent in size, but the flavor was good, and the layers of filo were flaky and buttery. Honestly, I think I enjoyed the mushrooms in this the most. It's like everything else in this dish just existed together, but the mushrooms stood out on the bites. I didn't get too much feta in it overall, but it was still pretty good. Next was the spanakopita, which was warm happy spinach filling, but I don't think there was *any* feta inside at all. I feel like I'm a bit of a spanakopita fiend, and this was decently okay. I think the only saving grace was the sauce, which added a bit of creamy cucumber tang goodness to what was missing with the feta. The last part was the Greek salad (we added chicken). When they say "salad", it's not what you regularly think of as "salad". This is like a hearty side dish at a picnic Greek salad. There was no lettuce, and I was perfectly fine with that (my partner had different thoughts on "salad"). It really is just hearty chunks of cucumber, tomato, bell pepper, red onion, and olives. I was perfectly happy without lettuce in it. The chicken was a bit on the dry side, but it was well seasoned and pretty thinly sliced. And I did like the honkin' brick 'o cheese in it. The Greek salad was pretty basic but it was healthy and fresh. Overall, with the price of the items, I would say this place is border-line worth it. This meal put me back about $70 (and then tip on top of that). The portions were decent sized. Even for the classic dishes, which people might associate with "bite sized" servings, this is enough to fill a full grown human. I think I would really need to be jonesing for Greek food immediately if I'm in the area, otherwise I'd probably hit up my regular Greek place down in Long Beach. BUT! If you are in the area and looking for a good quality lunch, I would recommend here. read more

I was feeling homesick and I thought there is no better remedy to homesickness than a gooey mousakka! The food is fresh and delicious but a tad pricey for an eatery at a strip mall. It's also a bit salty for my taste. Don't tell my mom I paid $12 plus tax and tip for 5 dolmades. For that price, she would make me cook a huge pot of dolmades, give the half to the neighbors and eat the other half for a week, but that's eating out for you. The yogurt sauce that comes with it is delicious... It's not sour cream people, it's plain greek yogurt with cucumbers. Overall, tasty. read more
