I'm not the only person who feels this way; the last time we visited, not kidding, the seven year-old in our party asked the guy at the front desk, "So, is this place fun and stuff?" Dude said, "Well, not really. I don't think so. You should decide for yourself though." The setup feels like a dynamite move. Similar to modern virtual art exhibitions, Electric Playhouse employs digital games to entertain the masses, simple light projection programs that sense bodily movement. Many of these games invite big crowds to join in, and that's where things start breaking down. I've never witnessed an employee assisting in the structure and organizing of these games. For contrast, think of the dodge ball arena at your favorite trampoline park: real, live human beings dictate rules and keep things flowing. At Electric Playhouse, it's a free-for-all, which equates to something of a sh*tshow. Putting some staff on the floor would really help change this. So much fun!! This was not what I expected. When I walked in it looked like a norma little cafeteria with a bar, but the long hallway of lights leads to such an amazing, interactive experience! We entered the cafe and ordered our drink while I waited for my husband. The kids got Dr.Pepper and I felt a little adventurous, ordering The Flash. It was a delicious bourbon based beverage with orange juice and lime. So tasty! The food was incredible, especially the truffle garlic herb fries and the play was fantastically awesome. So much stimulus coming from every direction...the games are fun and kept my kids running the entire time. My kids asked when we can go back again!!! Me and my partner went to New Mexico for my birthday to explore and celebrate. It was in the middle of the summer so it was extremely hot and extremely dry so we wanted to find something to do indoors. FOOD: The food was ok. We ordered the chicken tenders. They weren't bad at all, but they're not gourmet or anything. You can also order drinks if you want, but you can't take them into the play areas. There's free water available off to the side. Trust me, you'll need it when running around to play these games. GAMES: The games are all projector based. It was the first time I had experienced anything like this. I want to say they had about 8 individual games and they would switch some out during different intervals so maybe double that. You could also ask them to change a game manually. SERVICE: The staff was really nice! They taught you how to play a game if you didn't understand and were easy to find if you needed them. The bathrooms were clean and everything was in order. If a game wasn't working, they would quickly fix the issue. ATMOSPHERE/COVID: It's really dark, but the lights from the games help so there's no issue seeing. Though this is a place for kids, adults can have a great time here. I would definitely go again! At the time we went they were requiring mask and they had sanitizer stations. It was kind of hard to social distance, but everyone had on their mask at least. PARKING: We Uber'd, but the parking lot looked decent. I took my 12 year old son here for a daddy play date. The prices are steep for what it is. We were in and out in 30 minutes since a lot of the exhibits were hard to figure out or not working. I think this is a great spot for a toddler but for young adults/adults it's not worth the price. read more

Rethink your water policy!!! We went in close to opening today around 10 and told we could not bring in our water bottles. Meanwhile the 4 year old and 13 year old (who had come from an hour of swim team) got thirsty. There is no place to buy water until the BAR opens at noon. Two bus loads of kids from summer programs showed up. When we ask how to get water we are told to wait in line with these kids and then get a little tiny cup (like they give you to swish at the dentist). So we got two sips and had to wait in line with a TON of kids if we wanted more in our tiny cups. Once the BAR opened we got in line behind a few other families that were also probably very thirsty. There was no option other than the BAR to order anything. Once we get the employees attention she bit our heads off for letting our kids sit at the bar. We were waiting behind other families for desperately needed hydration and the kids would have to be alone 20 feet away from us because the other seats are far. The 4 year old was melting down by this point and then was yelled at by the bartender for sitting in the wrong place while we ordered. This place needs to decide if they want the bar crowd, families or summer program kids. They don't seem to be able to do them all but are trying. If they care about families they need to offer HYDRATION in an easier way. The lights were fun but hard to enjoy when you are lacking basic needs like WATER. read more

Bought a timed entry ticket for the whole family as part of a birthday celebration for my 10 year old. Chose Sunday morning as we hoped it would be a quiet family friendly atmosphere. Spent an hour waiting in the lobby because they "hadn't finished cleaning" after a "big party" last night. Because of the drag brunch they were hosting, we weren't able to access any of the main areas. This was absolutely not indicated on the website when we reserved spots. 10 or so small areas were open, 8 of which were suitable for only 1 to 4 people. These were a lot of fun and I loved that my kids were running all over the place for a video game. However, there were quite a lot of safety hazards associated with the show (cords strung across games, unattended haphazardly stacked glassware, no staff because all were attending to the brunch). We were completely done after an hour of play (tickets suggest 2 hours). This was fortunate, as the drag performers had begun giving lap dances. Which I don't have a general problem with, but the manager had actually suggested that we were welcome to watch the show....with our 9 almost 10 year old.... and you couldn't easily stay out of view. Fun idea with lots of potential, but seems to be run by people who haven't had a job before and don't know how to be professional. read more

Second time I've been to the electric Playhouse. Had visiting daughters from out of town. Since the last time I was there they had some new options. It's obvious they change things up from time to time to make things new. We had a great time and enjoyed all the things you can do at the electric Playhouse. There's no doubt if you are competitive and willing to put forth the effort you can get one heck of a work out while there. The food and drinks are good and customer service is good throughout. This is a review for the Yelp! ABQ elite event on Jan 30, 2020. This was an interesting place, for sure. Once you enter, there is a lit hallway, that leads you to the "guts" of this place, so to speak. There are many video/game experiences that you can try, from a floor with different colored blocks to match and stack to win, to being a "slug" and walk/run your slug to various food/plant items on the floor. We did not try the food or drinks while there, but the pizza did look good. I posted a menu from the outer bar area. My main concern is the time you get to try the games with so many people around. We didn't get to try the "breakout" type game, racing game, or wall "popping" game. There was just too many playing on them. Whether this place's "uniqueness" can be sustained is yet to be seen. While it offers a very different type of experience, I have to wonder how it will keep it's offering fresh and unique, to keep attracting people to visit. read more

We had my daughter's 3rd and 4th joint birthday party here and it was awesome! Server were friendly, attentive and helpful. They provided everything plates, cups and clean up there is no need for decorations the whole room is a canvas and they project images on the walls and tables. It may have been a bit mature place for my daughter's but this place is perfect for 9 years old and older. None the less the experience was unforgettable. read more

I never understood the concept of an electric playhouse until I walked inside one today. Kids can enjoy themselves, and adults can be kids again. The games and the technology involved is fascinating for everyone, providing hours of entertainment. There are two eating areas and the food is fantastic. I'm not a vegetarian but I ordered the vegetarian wrap and it was great! Whatever sauce they make, it mixes well with their food, giving it the right texture and flavor. I had a mock tail and it was just as good as the real thing. I would go back and try any of their drinks. Out of all the places I've been, this is probably the most creative and I would come back for more. I hope they do expand the play space, as this was mentioned. I also would love to try their interactive dining experience. It's also worth mentioning that the prices are more than reasonable. $10 for entrance and my meal, including the drink, was a generous helping for about $15 all together. This is a great place for kids and adults alike. My partner and I went together and had a blast. There are many different rooms with different types of laser/light based games and races and it takes a minute to figure out the object of each room, but once you do it's hard to stop playing. I would definitely recommend dressing comfortable and wearing shoes that you would use for cardio workouts or running if you plan on playing. I think it's also pretty accessible for differently abled people as well. There was a kid in a wheelchair while I was there and it seemed that he was able to fully participate in each of the rooms. I think that it's designed with the space and possibility to allow as much accessibility as possible. If you're looking for a great place to spend time with your kids where they can blow off steam and get rid of some energy, this is definitely the place. read more

Terrible place to throw a birthday! Way overpriced. The package says $300, but with all their taxes and fees it came to $411. We took the time to visit in advance and discussed our theme and that although his birthday is in the holiday season we didn't want anything christmas. We arrived to Christmas music playing in our room and a winter theme on the walls instead of the theme we had requested. We had asked about bringing cupcakes and were told it wouldn't be a problem. We needed to do homemade because we have food allergies. We were told that would be fine, due to the allergies. When we arrived they said only store bought goods were allowed. Ended up serving the cupcakes in the parking lot. Staff was not helpful and food was mediocre. Save money and do Main Event. This place is a total ripoff. read more

The service in the front was great, but it was a complete 180 in the bar/food area. Not only is the back staff (or at least the staff we had) lacking of common sense, they also were great at messing up every order. They have people who are untrained working and the wait times over thirty minutes and thats after the staff FORGOT to submit our order. The bathrooms were dirty as well. Im writing this review for the immersive dining experience- which is amazing and everyone should try to do once! My best friend and I went in October for their spooky themed dinner. It was so well orchestrated. On arrival our waiter brought us some non-alcoholic beverages to enjoy while we waited for the room to be ready. Once we got into the room, we were in for a treat. The whole room changed theme with the course! We were creating trails of blood in a crypt, smashing spiders in a mansion, digging for bones in a graveyard, creating magic potions in our soups and making pumpkins expand and ultimately blow up- all with our hands! The minute everyone had their food taken away from the course the room would change into the next scene. The attention to detail was amazing- the blank space at the table in front of you even changed shape to match the plate for the course. The food was great, the waiter was amazing, and we bought the package that included drinks. At the end of our meal they even left us time to go play interactive games in the main area. While the experience was pricey, it was so worth it! read more

Ok... so the playhouse part is fun... plenty of interactive games to keep kids entertained and having fun. The spaces are open with plenty of room to run around. BUT... while we were there for 2 hours we didn't see a SINGLE EMPLOYEE clean a SINGLE surface. For a business that is 100% touching and interactive, that is EXTREMELY concerning! Then you have the bar... not a drink station... a full-on bar with liquor bottles plastered all over the shelves behind the counter. Is this a kids place or an adult place? The middle play area where the bar is has a LOT of wasted space. The walls on either side of the play area are just decoration, and could be used for touch displays. The dodgeball area is about double the size it should be... cut that room in half and make something else on the other side. The mirror room is just a wasted closet space... no lights or anything... just a room with mirrors... nowhere to walk or a maze... just mirrors on the wall and ceiling. Oh... P.S. staff... there are a LOT of kids running around unattended and there are a LOT of dark corners and little curtained-off rooms in your building. There are SERIOUS safety concerns with your teenage staff not paying attention and parents sitting at the bar. Overall it isn't a bad place, but you need to keep an eye on your kids and wash your hands frequently... because nobody on staff is watching or cleaning. Be aware, and beware! read more
