To top it off, the owner was very rude and does not want to pay for the damage and questioned my mother as to why she was acting like this (mad) after being a customer for at least a couple years now. (Ironically, after changing dry cleaners for the same reason - shirt damage.) In any event - after questioning her as to why she's acting like this - THE DUDE SAYS HE WILL TALK TO HER HUSBAND. For context, let me start out by saying I screwed up. My wife had purchased a vintage dress and paid a pretty penny for it too. I proceed to wash it, but didn't realize that it got mixed in with some dark clothing (the dress is mostly white and 100% cotton, Yikes!). Pulled it out of the wash and hung it to dry. My wife was about to put it away when it dried and noticed dark streaks all over the dress. Man, was she upset and with good reason too! I take the dress and go around town looking for a cleaner that would be able to handle this issue. The first cleaner I went to took a look at the dress and within a minute said that there was nothing they could do. I proceed to Elegant Cleaners. I explained to Hamid, the owner, about the streaks in the dress and if there's anything he can do. He told me no promises but there was a process he'd like to try that might be able to remove the streaks. I leave the dress and prayed most of the streaks could be removed. Picked up the dress today and I must say that Hamid is nothing short of a miracle worker! The streak are gone and the dress looks brand new! Hamid charged me a reasonable price for the service but in all honesty, I would have paid double for the great work he did. Thanks Hamid! read more

They have consistently done a great job and at a reasonable price; especially with alterations and repairs. A couple of years ago, I moved to another state and I still bring clothes back to Elegant for tailoring. I had one jacket that someone else, near where I live now, tried to repair and didn't do a very good job. On a trip back to Alameda, I brought it it to Elegant and they redid the repair and it looks as good as new. They do a great job! read more

They did a crappy job out of three things that I took in my silk blouse has white spots on a hot pink top and my silk jumper has a new stop that wasn't there and the olive color is discolored. The owner wanted to charge me for a terrible job and said are you trying to make an insurance claim. I use Elegant Cleaners for the following reasons: (1) At $1.50 per pound, Elegant Cleaners has the cheapest wash & fold in Alameda. (2) Elegant Cleaners is open six (6!) days per week during the COVID crisis. (3) The wash & fold service is exceptionally high quality. (4) The wash & fold service is quick. (5) Hamid weights your clothes honestly and accurately. He uses a scale and weights them when you bring the clothes in. (6) There's always parking right out front, like 15' away. (7) Hamid is just a nice person. If you are in a hurry to get something, Hamid will take the time to give you a call when your stuff is ready. This type of extra step is so appreciated. read more

My husband's blazer came back with physical damage that was absolutely not there when I left it over at Towne -- they actually transport the pieces to Elegant for cleaning and back to Towne is what I've been told. The blazer came back with chemical spots of some sort on the back, impossible not to see. The worst part is the management / owner's reluctance to accept responsibility, when the intake person clearly made no mention of this damage prior to accepting the blazer- if it had been there, it would most certainly have been pointed out and marked bc it was that glaring. Their answer was that silk is a thin material and the shirt was old. This was a $150 shirt ruined. Their idea of compensation was to not charge me for "cleaning" the shirt.
