We moved into a house that had wood flooring in the master bedroom but stained carpeting in the guest bedrooms. The house was fifteen years old but I wanted wood flooring in the guest rooms. They came out when they said they would, measured, provided an in depth quote within a day, and we signed a contract. We were put on the calendar for the next week and the professionalism - especially cleaning up everyday before they left was greatly appreciated. The flooring was a bit more matt than the rest of the wood in the hallway so they immediately came back and put an extra coat of polyurethane down - no questions asked. They also did an amazing job putting down luxury vinyl plank in our downstairs gym and working with our contractor to work around the painting etc. phenomenal experience and extremely professional. read more

They did a nice job installing new hardwood floors in our guest bedroom. They were very quick. Contract was signed Friday, wood delivered Monday, work on Thursday to Sat. One week start to finish. My main issue is we tried to match the color to our existing hardwood floors and it was a miss. I now have a room with hardwood significantly lighter than the hallway. When I reached out to them they said not much they can do. They are very communicative during the sales process and quieter after the contract is signed. There were a few spots that could use fixing the company never replied back to me on after I sent pics. For new hardwood installation I would recommend them for their speed and fair pricing. If you are going to try to match to an existing color have them bring samples so you can try to match before the wood is delivered and work is done. read more

They even cut out several damaged planks and replaced them seamlessly. Even creaky floor boards were screwed down before flooring was laid. I'm giving Elegant Floor Service a bad review for two reasons. First, I had a difficult time communicating with the crew. They had to call their supervisor to speak to me when I had a question. The workers were very good otherwise. Also, I have a issue with the boards of my new floors separating. Someone has came out twice to look at the floors and agreed that the boards are too far apart and should be fixed. However, we I call the office to arrange a crew to come out, all I get is "we'll get a crew out soon." Soon over a year. I was told by the two men who came out to look at the floors that the standard is whether or not you can stick a dime between the boards. Needless to say, I have many cracks on my new floors that can hold a dime. Warning, great company if you don't have any problems afterwards. They don't know your name once the check is cashed. read more

Steve came out to do the estimate and gave, what I felt was, a thoughtful analysis of what we needed as well as some post-refinishing care tips. We received three quotes and theirs was the most comprehensive and laid out several add-on options. They did a beautiful job refinishing our floors and got the job done in two days. They left the place in perfect condition with no evidence they were even there aside from the immaculate looking hardwood floors. We are so pleased. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for a quality hardwood floor refinishing at a fair price. P.S. after reading some of the other reviews, I feel I should mention that our house is about 1000 square feet and was empty at the time of the refinishing and thus it was probably a little quicker and easier for them to get down than maybe others might be. read more

Once again I have to give accolades to Elegant Floor Services. I had a major flood from the neighbor upstairs. OMG! My gorgeous new floors! Elegant was out within 48 hours of my call and at a time convenient for me. Surveyed the situation, offered me more than one solution as well as conerns to consider if we did not replace here and now.. The decision was made to replace the one area of the floor now. Again we scheduled a time convenient for me, which was yesterday. It was done and I am back to looking goregous. We don't recommend! Crew (2) arrived with a U-haul van, nice and polite people, but with limited English, and expertise (only one of them had a few years). The hardwood work turned out not good. We can compare quality, because a portion of the floor was not worked on. Plus side: When one replaced plank popped out, just after 2 days, they came and repaired. Do not hire for wood floor refinishing! They do not uphold their Warranty. Elegant Floor Service offers a 100 percent customer satisfaction guarantee. I had the estimator Joe out for an estimate. Was told that his crew had the ability to make my floor like new again, that my wood floor would sparkle and shine. I paid extra for an upgraded finish. Here is the line directly from their proposal.. Option: Finish Upgrade - StreetShoe commercial-grade - approx. 294 Sq. Ft. $147.00 All this was apparently was the weakest coating of poly you could ever get. I don't even think my floor was sealed at all. 6 months later and the stain is coming off the wood. High traffic areas are much much lighter. Called Elegant. had the owner Steve White come out and look on Friday August 17th at 11:00 AM. I expressed my displeasure, pointed out numerous areas that looked terrible and he got combative with me. After he got combative with me and told me I was "irrational" I decided to run some video tape of our conversation. I told him I was doing so and he observed me doing so. He again called me irrational and admitted that the floor did not look great. Offered to have his people come back and put another coat of poly on the floor for me but said he would do NOTHING about the color coming off the floor. If the floor is really sealed wouldn't the stain stay on the boards? How is the stain coming off if I got my protective layer? Anyhow long story short he has not called to schedule the re-coating of poly that he stated (again I have it recorded) I would get. Don't listen to anything anyone at this office says about refinishing hardwood floors. You don't get what you paid for at all. There is no WARRANTY. There are numerous obvious swirl marks in my flooring and now the stain is rubbing off. If you have a shared experience with this company I urge you to contact the MD Attorney General's Office to file a complaint at http://www.marylandattorneygeneral.gov/Pages/Complaints/general.aspx They state that they have "Warranty Elegant Floor Service offers a 100 percent customer satisfaction guarantee." Yeah not so much - good luck if you hire these guys. The 8 crews they run do not speak English so communication is not effective at all while the individuals are in your home. After an electrical fire created floor damage to our first level, we decided it was time to apply some of the insurance money towards an upgrade - hardwood floors. Our rowhome is 120+ years old, meaning that the original hardwood could be great once refinished, or could be too worn to make it worthwhile. The guys at Elegant (who had given us a quote the previous year, when we thought our budget would allow for the project) knew their stuff. We received bids from many companies, and Elegant seemed to be the best in terms of advice and general knowledge. They advised us to lay an entirely new floor, as our original hardwood was not only just under carpet, but also a layer of linoleum (ew, 70's), AND a previous owner (who must have not had any sense for design) PAINTED the floors. Considering that, as old as they are, that paint could be lead paint, that opens up another whole can-o-worms. Anyway, the plan we decided on was this: strip the old carpet and linoleum layers and lay down new oak floors throughout the hallway, living room, and dining room. The results are magnificent. We are so pleased with the outcome. Our friends, who have also used Elegant, rave about their product as well. But like all home improvement companies, its hard to be perfect. Our complaints are few, and small, but noteworthy. We were quoted 3 days for completion of the project - it took 4, plus another visit to move the furniture back into place (understandable). Day 1 was just to remove carpet and linoleum layers - my husband came home early that day, around 1:30 or 2, and the crew was already gone. Perhaps if they had stayed a full day then, the project wouldn't have had to spill over to a fourth day. Who knows. Also, our stairs (original pine, which we were refinishing) gave the crew a bit of trouble. They said they could sand and refinish the treads, but not the risers (it was "too hard"). We're fine with that, but we were surprised that when we asked for a deduction since only 1/2 the stairs were finished, that each riser costs about half of a tread to finish, so we didn't recoup as much as we had hoped. The crew was nice and did a GREAT job with dust control, moving our furniture out (somehow they were able to get everything into our itty bitty kitchen!) and back in again, and fairly good with communication during the project. It is not the cheapest company, but they do a great job and know their stuff. read more

They worked diligently and moved my furniture, as requested. I had intended to refinish the floors one color, but the supervisor suggested that I use a clear finish, instead of color and I am so glad that I listened to his suggestion. I was extremely pleased with the final results of the work done and I highly recommend this company. In addition, staff suggested a product to keep the floors in good condition. We have used this company twice. They accommodated our desire for oil based poly to match our other floors, number of coats, who did the toe molding, moving furniture. What I'm trying to say is they modified their normal procedures to fit our needs. They also did a good job, and kept their word on times and dates. Oh, they also replaced some stained flooring pieces and lightly refinished the prefinished flooring in our hallway. Would 100% hire them again. read more

Hired Elegant to come in and redo floors after I took a stab at it with some people who claimed to know what they were doing. Not a smart thing to do with 100+ year old floors. Elegant was able to come in strip the flooring and restored them to its original glory. In 5 days, over 2000 sq ft of flooring was done for a very very reasonable price. very bad experience. I asked for a high gloss finish in my refinishing to match the new hardwoods I put in. The final result was a less glossy finish than I started with. The workers were not uniformed as stated on website and Did not speak English. They had no idea what they were even at my house for and I had to try to explain while they could not speak English. They did not provide stain samples to try to match the floor I was trying to match but went out to the store ( don't they carry some stains?) and purchased one stain. It did not match well. Finally they left two visible " triangles"Where stain was unevenly applied. That was only the beginning of the bad experience. The owner was very defensive and insinuated that I was wrong to even want a high gloss finish as most people don't these days. He felt that he deserved full payment and was going to charge more if I wanted the high gloss finish I asked for in the beginning. I finally decided that given everything that happened I did not want to give them more money but asked them to just fix the triangles. I paid in full. They have not responded to my request to fix the triangles. What really angered me is that they are supposed to be the "best" but had a terrible attitude toward my dissatisfaction and no real interest in satisfying the customer , at least not me. read more

Beware of this company. The workers that are hired are not certified in sanding wood floors, nor is the equipment they use well maintained. As another consumer already wrote, the workers' English is limited and I would add that the owner does not oversee or inspect the work. The final nail on the coffin is that the owner is belligerent and disrespectful if a customer complains. My floors have ripples throughout the entire line of sight, and were not properly sealed. This company does not stand behind the workmanship and is unwilling to correctly remedy the problem. I later learned that the company was not in good standing with the state of MD. read more

After interviewing several contractors I chose Elegant Floor Service to redo my foyer entrance and hall. When the crew arrived I discovered neither of the two could communicate with me in English and I'm not bilingual. My wife tried to communicate with them to get some idea of what to expect for the optional services we purchased. Unfortunately not much learned in that attempt. Within in a week after the work was completed I called their office to ask if someone could come out to my home and evaluate their work. It just so happen that the person answering the phone was the owner of the company, Steve White. Mr. White and I agreed to meet Thursday of that same week. Thursday came but not Mr. White. I called several times and left messages for him but he never called back. After two months of unanswered messages I contacted the Office of Consumer Affairs to submit a complaint. This isn't the first time that Elegant Floors had a complaint with Consumer Affairs. Mr. White sent me an email after being notified of my complaint to arrange a date for him to come out and inspect. Things went downhill shortly after his arrival. His first comment was his company did not have any equipment that could make the marks I was pointing out to him. He then started to blame my dogs for the marks. When I asked why didn't he follow up on our missed appointment to reschedule, his only comment was "sometimes appointments are missed"? When my wife joined the conversation he rudely told her he only wanted to talk with one person. At that point he was asked to leave, which he did not. After some back and forth he eventually agreed to apply to additional material to floor but when I asked how or if the application would resolve my issues he was unable to give a coherent response. I instructed him to submit to me in writing with the details on this remedial work. In his written response he still did not say what the product would do to resolve the problem. Instead he chose to blame me and my pet for any blemishes on the floor. He even proposed to charge me a nominal fee for the work, which he eventually dropped after I questioned his rationale for any fee. His subsequent email response was even more combative and insulting. At no time did Mr. White take any responsibility for the needless confusion. Rather than have anyone from his company come back for the remedial work and the accompanying disruption and inconvenience I chose to inform him that no one from his company would be welcome in my home. read more

So dissatisfied with this company and product... Paid for the upgraded finish, allowed extra time to cure before moving the furniture back. Scratched within weeks, by chairs with felt pads under the feet. Owner Steve offered to come see it, but dragged his feet on following through. When we finally got a time scheduled, he no-showed and didn't even call (actually the same as what happened at our first estimate - fool me twice, shame on me). Appears entirely uninterested in resolving the issue, or even offering any advice besides hiring them to come out again and re-coat. We had them refinish our entire main level of hardwood floors. Steve recommended the upgraded StreetShoe finish, which cures faster than oil-based products and is the toughest finish they offer -- adding that he used this in his own home (like us, he has a dog) and it still looks great. We initially loved the look, but quickly noticed scratches develop in the first few weeks - not just from the dog, but from a dining chair with felt pads on the feet! When we asked about this, he said it was because it was not yet fully cured, which takes a week - though I should note, they were ready to return our furniture after 2hrs when the surface was dry. We waited 24hrs, which he said allows 90% curing. Upgraded finish, 90% cured, and scratches with a felt pad?? Steve offered to come see it. We tried several times to schedule this with him, but with no luck. He offered a single time slot, which we could not accommodate. After several more attempts with little or no response, we finally scheduled a time. He no-showed and didn't bother to call. I called and left a voicemail, trying to reschedule for the following day. He never called back. (Shame on me, as this actually happened at our first scheduled estimate also - scheduled and no-showed, later apologizing that he put it on the wrong calendar.) When we asked his advice, his only solution was to hire them to come out again, to screen and recoat, at a minimum charge of $475. I don't think so. My advice? Hire a company that will honor their appointments and at least be polite enough to notify you if they fall off-schedule. And don't fall for salesmanship - read the fine print and give it the required time to cure. On that note, you might consider using the oil-based products after all - if this upgraded finish requires a week to fully cure, you might as well spend that time on a product that withstands felt pads. read more
