They have one side of the restaurant for dining, and on the other side, a bar setup with booths. I ordered some traditional dishes for the Thanksgiving meal with my family. As a Dominican who knows what our food is supposed to taste like, this was honestly a slap in the face. The food had zero flavor was bland, underseasoned, and completely lacking the bold, rich taste Dominican cuisine is known for. Nothing tasted fresh or made with care, and it felt like they were just going through the motions. On top of that, the service was bad inattentive, unwelcoming, and slow, which only made the experience worse. Dominican food should be comforting, flavorful, and served with pride and warmth. This restaurant had some really good home cooked meals. The staff are very friendly and accommodating as well. The silverware is a bit worn, and could be replaced. But I guess it added to the appeal of the homeliness of the restaurant. The shake was very tasty and the yellow rice and bbq chicken were cooked to perfection. Elena's would've gotten a higher rating years ago but it's not the same as it was. However, my go to here now is the Chicharrón de pollo because it never disappoints. Everything else is a hit or miss, but their chicharrón de pollo always slaps. The other thing that always go there for is their batidos (shakes) their passion fruit & mango shakes are top tier. All the dishes at Elena 43 are delicious. Having said this, the service is not the best. We are fortunate because we have been visiting this restaurant for many years so we are familiar with who to ask for in terms of wait staff. Eating in at Elena's is a basic experience. I ordered takeout around lunchtime. The place was empty, but they had a lot of pick up orders. My food took a little while to be prepared, but the staff did inform me of the wait. I ordered a Cuban sandwich with fries. The fries were as crispy as I like. The sandwich was a little dry, but nothing that a little sauce couldn't fix. I would try this place again. read more

Family came into town and wanted to come here for the nostalgia since him and his wife used to go there for date night. The food here has always been hit and miss to me as I got older. I started with a chicken soup since they were out of the sancocho which is always my go to. The soup was tasty and warmed me up. I ordered the Bistec a Caballo and expected the egg to be a bit runny but it was over hard. The steak was tough and rubbery. The rice was good. Have been ordering here for about 2 years now and the food quality consistency varies from time to time but today was the first time i had a safety issue with one of the plates I ordered. I got the mixed vegetables and as my husband was finishing up his plate he felt something hard and stringy hurting his throat, after being able to spit it out we realized it was a string from a Brillo. I have not frequented this establishment in person; just via delivery. My most recent order was disappointing as white rice was delivered instead of the yellow rice with peas as ordered. I must say you can expect consistency. The sweet plaintains are always delicious. The yellow rice and peas wonderful. That said, although very flavorful, the roast chicken can be dry, specifically the white meat. The most notable dish that is not recommended is the pernil. The dish is made up of 25% inedible fat (not crispy) 25% gristle, etc, 25% dry meat leaving only 25% deliciousness. I prefer to be satisfied with most of what I order. read more

Be careful @ particular Spanish restaurant. Went to Elaina's 43 restaurant on Francis Lewis Blvd. For years, this particular restaurant has played "funny math" with the meal totals although the food is good. Now, they have a "Clover" system tabulating the total of our bills. This system, like all electronic cash registered, is pre-set by human beings to figure out the sales tax for a given order. At this place, PLEASE LOOK AT TOUR BILL! There is a charge under the 8.875% sales tax that's listed as "Redondeo" which in Spanish, means "Rounding". In my case, 6 cents was added to my bill because of this. THIS IS A BUSINESS DECISION TO RIP OFF THE CUSTOMER. This means every customer that buys a meal from this restaurant is paying MORE (NEVER ROUNDED LESS) than what they are supposed to pay. It's a shame that a restaurant, especially with decent food, decides to pad their pockets on their customers back. Don't be fooled to let the Manager or workers tell you that they don't know why the bill is tacking that fee onto THEIR manmade bill. Worst Spanish food I've ever eaten. My normal spot ran out of chicken, I came here. Placed my order, waited 15 minutes and went home. I took the food out, looked decent. Taste wise it's bland. How does stew chicken just taste like watered down tomato sauce. Everything has no taste. Worst part about this is that I paid $17 for the worst Spanish food I've ever had. I've been going here for as long as I can remember!! Even as a little girl I remember going with my family. I love, love, love the food from here. I love it so much I actually get it catered for my job for lunch! I HIGHLY recommend their pepper steak, their baked chicken, beef empanadas, breaded steak, and their pork chops. They have delicious desserts too! My favorite is their flan, tres leches & their MANGO shake! This is a an over due review because i never made a review about this place, but I know they deserve one. I got it catered to my job a week ago, and this is what we got. Arroz con grandules, baked chicken, pepper steak, maduros, and salad. I used to come here a lot as a child but I must say the quality fell off a bit. The food is okay but some things are just really disappointing. The mashed potatoes were from the box, the $16 Estilo 43 salad had 5 over cooked shrimp and there is no description of it so I had no clue what it would come, the chicken was a bit dry....but overall it was all still edible just not worth the amount I paid. You can't go wrong with the avocado salad though. read more

Absolutely horrible customer service. Not only did they forget our food but the so called "manager" Kelvin, spent about 15 minutes talking to his friend, didn't apologize for missing an order and has a huge attitude problem. The food is definitely decent but if this is an establishment run by someone like Kelvin, definitely save your energy and don't waste your time coming here. He thinks he's the tough guy around a bunch of his employees. Very very poorly run place. Trust me, he has no idea how to speak to people or who he is actually speaking to. I will never be back here and I hope everyone else who reads this understands that when a restaurant is so poorly run it reflects on their character. He'll be the type to try and flex his "arms" and intimidate lolll. That made me laugh while I was there. He should be a little more knowledgeable and realize who he is speaking to, especially a customer but not only that, someone who can really spread the word about this. Great local Dominican restaurant. It's a decent ambience, booths as you enter the establishment, and tables on the other side for larger parties. TV's to watch sports or movies, whatever is playing. The food is always good, and decently priced. There is hardly ever a wait, and the times I've gone with a larger party, they've always been very accommodating. I wouldn't eat so heavy typically but I was having a late lunch so I took the chance on pernil with yellow rice and a side of Maduros. Everything was absolutely delicious. I can tell when the chef minced the garlic themselves and chopped the peppers. That's the love I like. Just straight forward deliciousness. Perfect lunch portion. So I'll be back. Wow what can I say but I'm SUPER DISAPPOINTED! Be aware they somehow have great ratings on Uber eats! I ordered chicken chiccharon with rice and beans, FF and a dolce de leches cake. Chiccharon was WAY over cooked practically burnt had to pick through it! The rice and beans smelled like an ash tray of cigarette butts, literally have no other way to describe the odor that came out as soon as I opened it.
