Really disappointed in this resturant. Online it says open until 12am. I arrived with a group excited to try their famous dessert and was told we couldn't be seated because they close at 9:30pm. I was celebrating a birthday for a family member and was really sad to see our one request for dessert couldn't be accommodated. With all the great service from other restaurants in DC you would think this place could offer the same but I guess not.... Will not be recommending sadly. read more

Had a really great business dinner at Elephant & Castle at 1201 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC last night. There were about 13 of us, and Joshua (the General Manager) accommodated our party's reservation quickly. He met all of our requests for a semi-private area with televisions for the Football game and Debate. The Happy Hour specials from 4pm to 7pm are really great here. The menu overall had plenty to choose from. Choose from Burgers like The Standard, Bacon & Bleu Cheese, Applewood Salmon Club, The Deluxe, The Double Standard, Caribbean Jerk Chicken, The Lamb Burger, and The Veggie. Casual Favorites on the menu are Jalapeno Mac & Cheese, Curried Chicken Flat Bread, Long Beach Fish Tacos, Tomato Basil Linguini, Chicken Fingers, and Grilled Atlantic Salmon. Pub Classics too are Stuffed Yorkshire Pudding, Shepherd's Pie, Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf, Butter Chicken, Fish & Chips, Chicken Pot Pie, Steak & Mushroom Pie, Bangers & Mash, Steak & Chips. Service was really on point last night as well! Keep in mind we had 13 people in our party, and Carl was an absolute Rockstar staying on top of everyone's needs. On Wednesday, 12/18/24, I made a reservation at 6 p.m. for four at Elephant & Castle in DC. Our plan was to dine before attending "A Christmas Carol" at Ford's Theatre nearby. As luck would have it, traffic was heavy, so we were all late. I called en route to the restaurant to alert them that we would not be able to get there until at least 6:30. The host was reassuring. He told me not to worry, that we would be able to be seated when we got there. We all arrived around 6:50 p.m. and were seated immediately. We were not sure what to do because our show was scheduled for 7:30 p.m. We explained our predicament to David, our waiter, who assured us that he would alert the kitchen about our schedule, and we would be able to get something to eat and get to the theatre on time. We ordered and he immediately brought water to all of us. Our brussels sprouts appetizer came out very quickly and they were delicious! Our meals came a few minutes later. Everything was hot and tasty. Knowing that our time was limited, David brought our check and told us that we could pay at our convenience. Incredibly, we made it to our show on time and had a lovely evening. Given how the evening started, we could have arrived hungry and stressed. However, David and two other servers were friendly, attentive, and efficient. We look forward to returning for a leisurely meal and a reprise of those brussels sprouts! We all agreed that the service was exceptional, and we doubt whether there are many restaurants who would have been so accommodating. read more

But since this is Yelp not Ciff Notes here are a few details: Poutine - Comes in traditional gravy and curd flavoring but also has other variations such as butter chicken, bacon and sour cream, etc. I ordered the traditional and it was fine...I mean no matter how you cut it you can't go wrong with deep fried potatoes covered with gravy and cheese right? However, I found the gravy to be a little bit cold and lumpy to be stand out awesome. Black and Blue Cheese Burger - A fine burger, nothing to complain about over here. The drinks here were decent, although inconsistent. I don't think there are actual bartenders here around lunchtime, and the waitstaff is not trained on how to mix drinks. You should probably stick to beer or wine. Food is okay but not worth the price, especially so close to world-class dining. The real issue here is the service. We've been here for lunch a few times and have come to expect that service will be slow. Today, however, we heard a waiter actively and loudly mock another table for asking him for drinks (rather than their waitress, who went MIA). Exceptionally unprofessional and shocking behavior. One of the main reasons for my 5 stars is that from the moment we walked in the door the atmosphere and staff was very inviting. The service was wonderful, our waitress was knowledgeable, professional and very personable. The food was delicious (2 of us had the Fish Butty with a delicious side salad and the other friend had the pot roast) and the timing of delivery perfect. We topped the meal off with a delicious shared bread pudding. With 2 drinks each, apps, 3 meals and dessert, the check was surprisingly low. I got a great flight - coffee porter , strong bow cider, Sam summer. Thanks to the bartender who picked my flight. Also got the hummus. It is drizzled with vinegar which I liked but both my friends said it took from the flavor. It's hit or miss if you ask me. Though I loved the toasted pita chips it came with. This restaurant is convenient to the Ronald Reagan Building, Warner Theater, a few blocks from The White House, and a number of other landmarks. This place definitely relies on tourists as I can't think of anyone I know of in DC who goes out of there way to go here. First off, the atmosphere is basic and boring. It's not a place I want to come into and spend time at. Its a place I come to if I happen to be in the area and yearning for a beer. There aren't many other options around it that are open for lunch so unless you want to walk a little ways for similar fare, you're stuck. The service was deplorable this past weekend. In all reality, I don't blame the server. I blame management. Every time I've been here I never see management. I see the servers hanging out by the hostess stand playing around because it's dead. When the cats away the mice will play and the cat is never around when I've been here. The server we had was nice enough but was very slow and was screwing up orders all around us. As far as the food goes, it flat out sucks. My date wanted brunch on Saturday and was craving eggs. She's vegetarian and asked for an omelette with peppers and mushrooms. After over an hour wait for our food she received scrambled eggs with long cuts of red peppers on the side and a small dish of mushrooms. WTF? I wasn't very hungry so I opted for the Peri Peri Chicken Pops which were awful. The sauce was pretty gross and the chicken seemed undercooked. We shared the happy hour onion rings, which were tasty. It was not accompanied by any dipping sauce but ketchup was good. They looked over cooked but they were not. I had the mahi mahi tacos which exceeded my expectations. The taco shells were grilled, fish was cooked perfectly - flaky and moist, and topped with fresh guacamole. It was accompanied by a nice sized green salad. My mom has the Caesar topped with grilled chicken which she enjoyed. Me and my family were just looking the museum of natural history until we saw a British restaurant nearby, We looked on Google maps and we immediately had high expectations, when we got there the line was short and all of the Real Madrid artifacts were amazing, you could tell that this was a British restaurant, the seats were very comfortable and the food was reasonably priced. I ordered the fish and chips and it was like heaven in a bowl, they were some of the best fish & chips I have ever had, the batter used to fry them was amazing and the fries were perfectly seasoned. The food was a 5 but the service was a 2. Look, the service speed was great but the waiter we had was quite rude, first of all, she became impatient when we were trying to order our food and she didn't know how to talk to anyone. I was super excited when I saw this bar while visiting Washington DC. I knew that They had a great beer selection when I had visited the one in Boston so I was excited to see if the one here did too. Because we were biking, we asked to be seated outside so that we could watch the bikes. They were very quick to greet us and very quick to accommodate us. We sat outside, and it took the waitress quite a while to come over and see us. After placing an order for two beers and an appetizer it took a long time to get our drinks. we didn't see our waitress again after she dropped them off. They were not very busy; I just think that perhaps her tables were inside. After waiting for a bit, we went to the hostess and asked if we could please have our check. While there, we ordered the pretzel bites with beer cheese. It was very good. The atmosphere here is an excellent especially when it comes to watching soccer games. Many soccer fans had come to watch the games that were going on that morning. Overall this is still one of my favorite places to go with their extensive menu and extensive beer collection.
