Burger just didn't do it for me I understand this is healthier eating but it just wasn't good. Food is overpriced also

I have been to an Elevation Burger location in MD before without my husband. Tonight I took my husband here after we saw a movie because I had raved about it and he wanted a good burger. I told him before that Elevation burgers were great and didn't sit heavy. However, this location the burgers were super greasy (greasy pooled in the bottom of the paper) and the fries tasted very oily. My husband did like his elevation burger and shake. I would have rather not of eaten here after tasting the other Elevation Burger locations food. The parking in the area is also very limited. We were lucky we didn't go at a busy time on a Saturday evening. The dining room was bigger than the MD location so that was a bonus. read more

I've been going to this establishment since it opened. Although it's actually improved since it first started, I just haven't been very impressed by the size of the patty and the flavor profile. The Pros: Virginia "Kobe" beef that's grass fed= the meat itself is good and not gamey The French fries = fried in olive oil and delicious The shakes = what can be bad about a burger and a shake The veggie burger = actually pretty good The veggie burger + beef patty = makes you feel less guilty... The tray = when someone serves you food on a baking pan, that's just awesome The Cons: The size of the burger patty - sometimes, it's soo small, you can barely find it. Thus, you have to either end up getting two burgers or a burger with two patties. I would much prefer they charge me what they want and just make a patty that's "double sized." That way, you can taste more of the hamburger meat. They are staffed by what seems like high school kiddos, so it's hit or miss. Sometimes the person knows what he/she is doing, other times, when you say you want "everything" on your burger, they ask you to list everything, since they don't know. The burger is very messy. Even with a few ingredients on it, it will get everywhere. The price - it keeps going up and up and the cookies are highway robbery, not worth it. Quite possibly the best burger joint in the D.C. region. You go here when you want a quality burger that has a whole lot of taste and little of the bad-for-you extras found in the beef everywhere else. This one in particular is a hopping establishment on most weekends and if for nothing else it proves to be a nice place to sit and enjoy yourself with a shared order of olive oil fries and a shake. You cannot beat their loyalty card Buy 7 get one free deal. They even give you two "stamps" (cut-outs in this case) for their signature two-patty elevation burger. Two people, two burgers, shared fries, and two shakes comes to right around ~$20; so it is not the cheapest, but not the worst offender in the burger market. My one fan qualm: While they have a nice offering of add-ons, I am often underwhelmed by the quality. Their tomatoes are too giant, hard and largely inedible while on the burger. Their buns are the biggest failing - how a place like this can skimp so heavily when it comes to the use of their buns is beyond me. They are nothing better than the super enriched white bread you might find at McDonald's. If they ever decide to change this - I'll be in heaven. They really need to find a better bun supplier. Finally - they got rid of my favorite shake mix flavor: orange. Therefore, I have no reason to buy shakes here anymore. Long live the now deceased vanilla orange-mango shake. read more

I'm a fan because this place is true, meaning their use of ingredients. A quick comparison with Five Guys and In and Out, this place is not as greasy. When you leave, you're comfortable and not feeling "down" because you had too much grease. I'm not hating the other two though, they're great and classic places to eat at. I got the Elevation Burger, which is a simple double real-cheddar burger with their special Elevation sauce. First bite was moist, juicy and I was rather surprised. I expected greasy goodness, but that wasn't the case here. The burger isn't dry at all, as it has natural beef juices and fat leaking out of the tissue. They use ordinary potato bread where you can even buy from your local supermarket, guess they're keeping it very simple, can't complain here. The shoe string fries were done right and as they advertise, fried in olive oil. We also got an Oreo shake which was also delicious. It wasn't too sweet and the thickness was excellent. I give this a solid 3.5* star. I'd give it that extra star if the fries weren't shoe string cut, I'm just not a fan of it. The Elevation sauce wasn't too great either. I give props to In and Out for their animal-style sauce, which I think is tastier. I could do a simple mayo with this burger and enjoy it just as much (not a fan of ketchup or mustard in burgers). If you're into burgers and shakes, I recommend this place. Will definitely visit this place again for a more comfortable feeling, post-consumption. read more

I can't believe I haven't eaten here until recently. The burgers and fries are stunningly delicious with a strong emphasis on not giving you that "jesus christ why did I just eat that" feeling you get from virtually every other fast food establishment. They are exactly what they claim to be, a healthier alternative to your mc-nausea or flame broiled gastrointestinal burgers. Pricing is definitely reasonable with a complete meal (burger + fries + drink) running you about $12, equivalent to a meal from Subway. Having eaten almost every "hyped" burger from coast to coast be it your In-N-Out, Shake Shack, Whataburger, Five Guys, etc. etc. you should NOT sleep on Elevation Burger. read more

Hot and tasty burger. Perfect size for lunch along with their yummy fries. I liked that the fries were the skinny along and not thick cut so they were extra crispy. Their beef is also grass fed so the prices are going to be steeper than other chains. YAY! I AM a fan :) First time to this place and I can say that I would return if such a place existed on this west coast. I liked the fact that the beef is Kobe and grass fed, meaning it is not tough or chewy. French fries fried in olive oil give them a different and delicious flavor from your ordinary fast food fries. I also liked all the different options you could have on your burger. Now onto the milkshakes... they = yum yum yum! Made fresh and taste exactly like what you would expect mixing the ingredients of the flavor your requested. I thoroughly enjoyed the fresh Oreo-vanilla flavor. Gave this place a shot my first night, and was totally underwhelmed not only by the "Wendy's" quality of the food, not only by the high price for such mediocre fare, but the compete disdain the crew had for me as I was literally the only customer in the place. "Off night," I thought. Fast forward to tonight, and I bring my young son in for a grilled cheese and fries. He gets a slice of processed cheese between two hamburger patties. For $3.15. And my cheeseburger? Two patties that tasted no better than Wendy's, but cost twice as much as $7.25. I received a free mailer so I decided to check it out with my boyfriend. The parking here is, to say the least, difficult. It is a tight, small lot. I had to circle around a few times before finding a spot. My boyfriend got the elevation burger and I got the sriracha mayo crispy chicken sandwich and regular fries. I gave the cashier the flyer and when I asked to get the chicken sandwich instead (which the flyer stated I could do), he gave me a little sigh and an eye roll. I found this very off-putting. The elevation burger came falling apart-the buns and patties were barely stacked on top of each other. My chicken sandwich came nicely wrapped. The taste for both was okay and the fries were nothing special. I probably will not come back here. read more

The burgers were good, but small and expensive. Fries were good too. Selling a small Impossible burger (that really does taste like the real thing, btw) for $13.50, no combo, just the burger, makes it more of a novelty than a world-changing solution. The service was friendly but slow. There were 5 folks behind the counter doing the work of 3. It took us almost 40 minutes to order and get our food with only 2 people ahead of us in line. I ordered the elevation burger with some additional toppings and a mango cheesecake shake. The burger patties were slightly dry, the mushroom tasted quite metallic, I don't think that's a good taste to have. The shake was very sweet, well I guess I did add cheesecake in there. The mango was frozen, so if you bit into mango chunks, prepare for a toothache. It takes a bit for the burgers to come out. Rude manager. Wrong order twice. The first thing I told the cashier is, "This is an allergy order." She assured me it would be fine despite my insisting she make sure the kitchen knew I had a Celiac and they would need to change gloves if they touched buns before touching his lettuce wrap. The kitchen proceeded to make the lettuce wrap with the same gloves they used for the buns. When I pointed this out and told them they'd have to remake the food the manager told me it was my fault because the cashier didn't put anything on the receipt. They remade the order and forgot the cheese but replaced it with elevation sauce - well the Celiac also has an egg allergy. Now the manager was near furious with me and asks if the cashier read the order back to me. I say Yes and show him the paper the kitchen has been working off of where it has the correct order. The manager continues to argue loudly with me that I'm wrong and won't read the paper with what was supposed to be on the chicken. read more

I still love that their ingredients are natural and the french fries are still great. Unfortunately we've just had some very annoying experiences coming here around dinner time. When we went the most recently we ended up waiting over 30 minutes from the time we walked in to when we got our food. For a fast casual place they really need to nail down the fast part. I also don't love how they have added a bunch of pre-designed burgers and sandwiches to their menu. It's like they felt they needed to compete with Red Robin or something but what I loved about their brand before was the simplicity. When you think of the words "natural" and "organic" you don't think, "BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger". If it's working for them then great but that's not the direction I would have chosen for their brand. Last time-- ordered through Door Dash during a thunderstorm, ordered fries, hot dog, two burgers and a side salad. They forgot the bacon and cheddar on my sandwich, forgot my salad all together and our fries were cold and they didn't pick up their phone so I could tell them. I drove there and talked to someone about having it remade, they had me wait ten minutes until someone else came up to tell me I couldn't get a refund because it was through door dash. I said I didn't want a refund I just want the food. They remake it and put it in the bag. I get to the car and check and there's still no cheese. I go back and they remake it again. I finally decided to retry them tonight and ordered the Elevation Burger through Grub Hub which is listed as a double patty with cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, crispy pickles and the elevation sauce. I added bacon to the order and got it in a lettuce wrap w the dressing on the side. 50 minutes later the order comes and again, no cheddar, no tomato, no pickles and the lettuce wrap is soggy. THIS IS THEIR SIGNATURE BURGER. I just don't understand how you can mess up an order so badly, and not once but TWICE(actually three times as the first was screwed up twice). Grub Hub tried calling them and they didn't answer and they told me without the restaurant approval I can't get a refund they only offered a $5 promo initially which is 1/3 of what I paid all together including taxes and delivery fees and for the sandwich etc. I complained that I shouldn't have to pay and they offered $10 promo so I took it. I highly suggest NOT going to this burger place, the staff was rude the first time when I went there and the girl cooking rolled her eyes at me. I work in the service industry and it's not rocket science. It's also unacceptable to not be answering your phones for people to be able to fix their orders. I hate writing bad reviews on yelp but I'm am beyond annoyed this happened again and the fact that they don't give you a chance to contact them directly. Overview: Fast casual burger chain. Is there really anything else to add? My review: 3.5, but rounding down because 4 seemed too high Elevation Burger is always a hit with my kids. *I* like it because I still think it has the best priced veggie burger (Vegan burger - I'm not vegan, but I don't really want cheese mixed into the pattie, which is what I *think* the Veggie burger has... but it's been a few years since I asked and maybe things are different now). My kids (12 and 10) think the single burgers with cheese (and no other toppings because my kids can be quite picky) and Oreo shakes are Delicious. I've been to this particular location several times. Usually, it's been for a late lunch during the week when things have been a bit slow, but we went for dinner around 6pm on a Friday night and the place was quite busy. The food and service were fine (kudos to the cashier who gamely put up with my oldest daughter ordering and paying for her own food when the line was growing behind us). The biggest issue with this location is the parking. The attached lot is small and its narrowness makes it a bit more difficult to navigate. And now that there is a distillery a couple of doors down (where there used to be one of those indoor gyms for kids), I feel like parking is going to be at even more of a premium. I was able to find street parking nearby, but I'm not sure how much of that was luck or how much you can rely on that in other occasions. Possibly the worst 100$ I spent in a while... I ordered food for my entire family and it was iftar (the sunset period during Ramadan when we can break our fast) my family didn't get an opportunity to cook so we decided to order from outside. We were already starving and excited for this food but jeez I would've been happy with a boiled egg rather than this sorry excuse of a burger. One of the worst feelings is spending so much money on such horrible food, the burger itself was tasteless and chewy. The price doesn't match the burger whatsoever. I got a Swiss burger myself and they were probably only two mushrooms within the burger despite me asking for extra mushrooms. 12$ for a small tasteless burger!! So last week's Burger Brackets in the Washingtonian got me all worked up over burgers, so some friends from church and I decided to do an impromptu burger bracket of our own. On this day, Elevation was pitted against Ray's Hell Burger; and on this day, Elevation won. Food - If you feel guilty about eating Bessie, than Elevation should appease you a bit, since you can rest assured that Bessie was fed grass and allowed to roam freely. I'm not so concerned about how Bessie lived; my concern is how her legacy will live on...in the form of ground beef titillating my taste buds and cholesterol coursing through my veins. In that regard, I really couldn't tell much of a difference between Bessie's ground up flesh and the ground up flesh of the aged, old cows at Ray's Hell Burger. The first thing you should notice at Elevation Burger is the fact that they have a Vertigo Burger - your choice of up to 10 patties and slices of cheese. Since I was the first to order, I figured I'd just get a regular elevation burger ($5.99), since it's double meat and double cheese. I got it w/ the original toppings: elevation sauce, tomatoes, pickles, lettuce, and I added caramelized onions. When the burger first came out, I felt like the girl on that Seinfeld episode (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cUNNKzj_Nc) as the size of the burger was almost laughable. Granted, cooking meat causes shrinkage...but still... Anywho, the burger was tasty, but i was seriously craving more afterwards. My only gripe is the cheese. I usually like cheddar cheese, but the cheese here is very sharp and I didn't care for it much w/ my burger. Also, while the burger itself feels strangely healthy, the neon-yellow/orange, greasy mess that results from melting sharp cheddar nudges this burger over the requisite Burgers Shouldn't Be Healthy quotient. We did the math, and it's roughly $2.20 per patty and $0.40 for a slice of cheese, so a 10x10 would cost ya about $26. The shakes ($3.89) are tasty! Your choice of vanilla, chocolate or coffee ice cream and then you can add 1 or 2 toppings of your choice. I chose vanilla w/ strawberry + pineapple. Yum! Would you like some fries w/ that shake?! Oh, you would? Ok. That kinda ruins the whole pickup line doesn't it? Well, the fries ($2.59) are tasty, but annoyingly small, i.e., I usually grab 5 or 6 of them in one bite. They're cooked in olive oil, which didn't alter the flavor as much as I had been led to believe by some of the reviews. Also, don't expect a Five Guys-esque portion here. An order of fries can serve up to 2. Location - bamboo flooring, washable trays, but no visible recycling (at least when I went). Guess it's not easy to be completely green..unless, the employees dig through the trash to find recyclable items, which is very admirable. The Planeteers would be proud! Plenty of seating so you don't need to stalk other diners like you do at Ray's. The interior is clean but just about everything is greasy. The aluminum trays your food comes in are greasy. The ketchup squeeze bottles are greasy. The floors are greasy. Yup! It's a burger joint! One gripe about the location: they have those annoying napkin dispensers that dispenses only 1 napkin at a time. Combined with the aforementioned grease, that can be rather annoying. They also have a frequent buyers card where you get a free single burger for 7 stamps. The nice thing is, you get a stamp for each patty, so if you order a 7by7, you can also get a free single burger. Note: they close promptly at 5pm on Sundays and we saw so many people got turned away yesterday. So if you're a jerk, come just before 5 and you can go, "Awww...you want -this- tasty burger, don't you?", as they angrily implore you to come open the door. Service - the order taking system can be a little slow, so hopefully, it's a little more efficient during peak times. The burgers take about 10 minutes and are all cooked well-done. "So if Elevation beat Ray's yesterday, why is Elevation only 4 stars?", you may ask. Well, yesterday, I got the Let's Get It On burger at Ray's and it was REALLY dry. Normally, I pick my own toppings and it's much better. So yesterday, Elevation had it's day in the sun. But the smallish burgers - I feel so gross after 2 Five Guys and won't even attempt eating 2 at Fuddruckers - and the lack of other cheeses - cheese should not only hold meat together; it should taste good - makes it a great burger joint in my book, but certainly not the best. read more

I haven't been this uncomfortable in a long, long time. I'm still standing up while I write this review because I can't imagine plopping down on the couch after the meal I just had. Based on the recommendation and review of the lovely Ms. Kathleen M., I decided to stop at Elevation on my way home tonight. I knew when I walked in that I was going to enjoy myself. I looked around at the tables and saw that everyone had an order of fries, and nearly everyone had a shake (or maybe some were malts). In looking at the size of the fries, I knew it would be sinful to have a burger, fries AND a shake, so I only ordered one sinful thing. On my first order, at least. I ordered the "1/2 the Guilt" with cheese. I thought it was a novel idea to combine a beef patty with a veggie patty (veggie #1). I got it the regular way, which consists of Elevation sauce, lettuce, tomato and pickle. I also asked for caramelized onions. With that, I got water. Burger came and I dived in. What an interesting combination! It was excellent; great taste, the veggie patty really did taste like meat, and the elevation sauce added a little something to it. After I inhaled it, I grabbed the keys and started to get up. As I was doing so, I saw a line form at the counter and someone had ordered 3 milkshakes. I started to see this conversation play out in my head: Kathleen M.: SOOOOOOO, how was the burger? Me: OMG, it was soooo freakin GOOD! Kathleen M.: OMG, and the shake!?! How was it, what flavor did you get??? Me: Well, I passed on the shake; I figured it looked so big that I would probably finish the whole thing and didn't want to face the guilt. Kathleen M.: *Pause* Wait. You did read my review, right? Me: *Nervously looks away* Umm, yeah...(voice trails off). Yes, I did the right thing. I walked right up to the line, waited for my turn at the register, and promptly ordered a vanilla shake, easy chocolate sauce, and fresh bananas. I think I finished it by the time I hit Reston Parkway on the 267. I don't even want to think about trying to sit down for a little while. I can't wait to try a cheeseburger on my next visit. When I was younger, my parents attempted to teach me that eating certain bright green products (think spinach, brussel sprouts, green beans, etc.) was a good idea because apparently they were super healthy or something. Later in life, and thanks to a decidedly Southern upbringing, I learned that some of these foods are indeed delicious when served correctly. Namely, spinach is awesome when it is wilted in butter or olive oil and then absolutely drenched in heavy cream. Brussel sprouts are incredible when they are served with thick slabs of bacon and cooked in a manner where they don't taste like they were brought to your plate directly from a sulphur mine. Green beans don't have to suck either when you pair them with ham hocks and onions. What does this have to do with Elevation Burger? Everything. Basically, Elevation sells you premium priced burgers that are grass-fed and non-fatty. Sure, it might be more healthy. But does that mean you want to eat it? Hell no. People who are comparing Elevation Burger to Ray's Hell Burger (thank you lessors at Ray's to the Third for not being stupid -- yes, people of Arlington, you can still enjoy a Ray's Hell Burger) probably held out a bit too long in an underwater hold your breath contest. I mean, I guess you CAN compare grass-fed cattle to the prime corn-fed cattle that Ray's uses. It's not an apples to oranges comparison. But, in my mind, it's like comparing a regular apple (Elevation Burger) to a caramel covered apple (Ray's Hell Burger). Are you a boring, pseudo-health freak that has spent far too much of their time in California? Well, you are going to love Elevation Burger. Elevation Burger bring tears to my eyes, but not the good ones. Even the bacon here tastes a bit too healthy (code for less fatty). Really, the only part of the burger that I did enjoy was the aged cheddar cheese which, frankly, was spectacular. Some might claim that the sharpness of the cheddar is far too strong to pair with meat. And, while I might generally agree with that claim, it is moot here because the underlying burger patty is flavorless. If you lost the ability to detect 80% of all flavors, wouldn't you hold on to that remaining 20% with dear life? That is kind of how it feels to enjoy the cheddar cheese at Elevation Burger. I get that I'm not the target audience for this burger, and in accordance with that, I give it an extra star. Still, most people don't eat burgers because they think are healthy and Elevation Burger isn't a healthy product to boot (the ability to order 10 grass-fed burger patties stacked on top of one another kind of destroys any contrary argument). Elevation Burger ranks high in my book simply because I don't know where else I could find an inexpensive, grass-fed, organic, fast-food style burger. In addition to this great concept, they've managed to pull it off well, adding great choices like 2 different types of veggie burgers (1 that tastes like meat, 1 that tastes like veggies), the ability to combine meat and veggie, and as many patties as you want, up to 10 (egads!). I was pretty pleased with just one patty, but I can see how a big appetite would necessitate 2. I was really pleased with Elevation after finishing my burger and fries. Service had been pleasant, the place was clean, and I felt like I had gotten my greasy food craving quelled while still preserving a little bit of thought for the environment and my body. 4 stars. Then we spied the milkshakes. We were curious why people were ordering them like crazy on a gusty 20 degree night, but then we got to taste for ourselves. Oh. my. God. Best milkshake of my life, bar none. I opted for chocolate ice cream, adding chocolate syrup and oreo crumbles (can you see what I was craving that night?). It was absolutely divine...I can't even put in to words how good it was. This is the closest to a West Coast (a la In-N-Out) type burger I've had on the East Coast. Mind you don't expect an In-N-Out clone though in terms of taste/style. The burgers at Elevation are very tasty. Not too greasy. The meat is very good. They advertise that their meat is grass fed organic and you can definitely tell that this is a higher quality burger than fast food or sit down restaurants. The meat lies between your potato bread buns but the real focus here is the beef. I find the regular burger a bit on the small size, but I'm pretty happy about the size and meat-to-bread-to-toppings ratio of the double cheeseburger. There are a few minuses though. I don't particular like the use of cheddar cheese on the burger. I prefer smoother creamier cheese topped on my patty. But this is in no way a deal breaker and the cheddar on its own is good. Also, the fries are made with olive oil, which give it an interesting twist. But I would have to say that the taste of the olive oil fries don't fit the burgers. The cashiers are polite. You order at the cashier and then they call your order when its ready. Often the orders can take a little while longer than expected to arrive. Also, parking is a bit limited, so if you're coming with friends try to carpool. I recommend Elevation Burger to any burger lover. read more

Elevation is phenomenal. I went for the cheeseburger (plain with just the elevation sauce) and it was fresh, tasty and not greasy. I think the burgers here are reminiscent of In-n-Out. The burger was on the smaller side and there was no way I was going to be full if it wasn't for splitting a side of good-even-though-oversalted fries with Michele D. (sans hot heels) and having a yummy chocolate-strawberry-banana shake. They have a Vertigo burger where you can specify the number of meat patties (up to 10). I think if I come here once a week and have a vertigo with an additional patty each week, I could actually finish the vertigo the way it was meant to be had in the 10th week. This place would have 5 stars from me if just a few, seemingly small details were changed. I'll get into that in a minute, firstly I'd like to say that the whole ingredients thing is very admirable, and i love the idea of the veggie burgers as well. The first time my girlfriend and i went here, we each had a veggie burger and were very impressed that they did not try and create some sort of meat-immitation( veggies definitely had their presence) and that the burger was actually substantial, not leaving you hungrier than before *cough*..sunflower cafe...*cough*. We came here a second time the other day and each of us had a burger this time, and fries. I enjoy these fries more than 5 guys, nicely crunchy, perfect amount of salt and all that. The burgers however, were built UPSIDE DOWN!!! I must not have noticed that my first time in, but one thing I cannot stand more than anything at a sandwich/hoagie/burger spot is when anything concerning meat and cheese is on top, and anything concerning vegetables is on the bottom.... in conclusion, -1 star for giving me a lettuce, tomato, onion and sauce sandwich topped with a burger and cheese. -1 more star for the creepy dude who stares at my girlfriend non stop, right in front of me...completely unscrupulous. he alone really makes me not want to return, the entire rest of the staff have been really very nice both times I have been here, but one rotten apple ruins the whole bunch! Stopped by on the way out to see my doctor. It was actually my second time trying to come here but I failed miserably at finding a parking spot the first time. Be warned - the lot is tiny and they share it with some other stores. There are some additional street spots that you may have better luck getting. On this visit I got there around noon on a Friday and there were only two or three other pairs of customers in the store. There were however no fewer than 10 employees behind their tiny counter. I'm not sure what they were all doing...unless they power their grill by running in hamster wheels in the back of the store. In any case, my meal was ready in a matter of minutes (a hamburger and fries) and the guy taking my order was very friendly - even smiling during our transaction, wonder of wonders. The burger was good, a bit less greasy than Five Guys, and I did like the different taste to the fries. I'll go back again to give one of their shakes a try, but for now my heart (and stomach) still belong to Five Guys. read more

Typically I don't give any kind of chain or franchise ratings above a 3 (with some exceptional exceptions). I'm feeling generous. Since I'm not a (real meat) burger eater, this review is tricky - as this IS a burger joint, but I'll tell you what I know. This place cooks their french fries in olive oil. I LOVE THAT. Their beef burgers are made with organic Virginia Kobe-style beef. Their milkshakes don't have silicone beads in them as thickening agents. These are all GOOD things. Fast food doesn't have to be like McDonalds or Burger King in order to be good. It doesn't need to induce coronary artery disease to be tasty. Of course, this fast food is significantly slower than the aforementioned, but what doesn't come at a price? I had the veggie burger. There are two to choose from I had the one that supposedly tastes like beef (sorta) and is soy based - the other option is more like a gardenburger. I had it done "messy" which is essentially all the toppings and carmelized onions (instead of raw). You can also get just the "elevation sauce" which is as near as I can tell, something akin to Thousand Island. Good stuff when paired with some crispy, hearty fries and a super thick vanilla milkshake. Take a seat, wait a few (and then a few more) while you watch your food being made to order (the kitchen is close enough to watch). Are you watching? No silicone beads pouring in. No bottles labeled, TRANS FATTY ACIDS in the hands of the employees. I feel better already. Bad food (in a good way) that's not going to kill you. It's like this is where all the parents trying to reinvent themselves (and subsequently their kids) go for a guilt-free dinner. Unfortunately, this place has no ball pit to distract the kids from annoying me. Sigh. The decor here is like a blue re-skin of Five Guys. The prices were pretty fair, considering I was expecting a premium for grass-fed beef. $2.50 for a hamburger, $3 for cheeseburger, $6 for some kind of double cheese and patty burger. They have at least 10 free toppings on the menu too (including caramelized onions). I ordered a simple hamburger with lettuce and tomato and their hand-cut fries ($2.39?). The bun was pretty standard. The patty was... not dry.. but not juicy. I suspect this is because of a lack of fat a normal factory raised cow would have. Don't get me wrong, it tasted quite fine and I didn't feel greasy afterward. The shoe-string fries were nice and crispy but few in number. 2.5 stars. For $18.58, we got two burgers, one order of fries, two sodas and one shake. The shake was the best bit. I WANTED TO LOVE THIS PLACE, but I couldn't. I hate to say it, but a Jackson will get you two burgers (double meat) and a huge amount of fries and two drinks at...Five Guys. The only thing E.B. has on F.G. is shakes and the capability to feed my boyfriend, the nut-allergic (and might I add very handsome) Welshman. I'm all over the organic thing, especially in a fast-food format. The buns were above average--soft and buttery--but the burgers were greasy, flavorless and uber-flat--on the level with Mickey D's, no lie. This burger was so weak the lettuce overshadowed everything. Did you hear me? Lettuce stole the show. Bland, cold, flavorless iceberg lettuce. The "elevation sauce" on my burger appeared to be a mix of mayo and ketchup. How creative! The place was dingy and cold. I drove 30 minutes for you, Elevation Burger. I had high expectations. I know I'm a judgmental sassy thing. But still, I'd go for a Big Mac over your fare every time. The fries (cooked in olive oil!) were overdone and over-salted. Plus they were the spindly, shoe-string variety that I like the least when it comes to fries. I'm sticking on one star for the organic, conscious food thing, and another for the nut allergy thing (they are nut-free save the pecans in some cookies, which are baked elsewhere and prepackaged, and are mindful in the kitchen of cross-contamination). Look, it's very commendable that Elevation Burger wants to be organic and use Kobe-type cows and such. I'd far prefer to eat food that didn't come from a lab. But come on, where's the beef? I ate my cheeseburger in less time than it took Alexis G. (she said one second), and I have been derided by family, siginificant others, and friends my entire life for how long it typically takes me to eat. Yes, everyone is mean to me and I am scarred for life, but let's get back to the review. Everything tasted good, though I questioned the use of a grocery store-style bun when they touted the quality of their other ingredients. The highlight was definitely the french fires, fried in olive oil. They were thin and crispy, just they way I like them. Elevation has a good idea, but the execution is just a little off. My suggestion: go to Five Guys today, and if you really feel guity about your fries fried in peanut oil and your grain-fed beef, go eat a salad tomorrow. Messy. Grab plenty of napkins. I ordered just catsup, mustard, and caramelized onions on my burger and it was dripping with all of the three. Even the extra wrapper they couldn't contain what was coming out of that potato bun. The fries were just the kind I like, thin and crispy. Ok, there's a Smash burger that is 2 blocks down the street on the same side. One can walk to it in the rain as I did tonight. I stopped by here on a whim when I was in Falls Church and it turned out to be pretty good. I ate my cheeseburger in about a second, and they worked with me to make some delicious cheese fries, even though they aren't on the menu. The menu itself has only about 10 things on it, which reminded me of In N Out. They have two different veggie burgers, but it isn't fake meat -- it's a garden burger. All of their meat is organic and they have a bunch of different toppings and a special sauce. There's about a 10 minute wait for food, but it's worth it. Elevation is very reasonable, too. Lunch for two was about $16. read more
