Red hair demands almost perfect upkeep. Those who attempt to do it at home must posses a stout heart, nimble fingers, and a tolerance for streaky frustration. No stranger to DIY hair color, I have always embraced sudden and dramatic changes and less than natural results in the name of hair fashion. Not too long ago, however, I decided that acheiving perfect reults and enviably vibrant (yet mostly natural looking) red hair might be a feat best left to the experts. Thats when I turned to Elevations. Originally, I chose Elevations because it was close to home (Garden Home) and convenient...those treks to Dosha downtown seemed onerous, and I was tired of the parking grind. I worked with one woman there who did a passable job, until she left the salon. Thats when the fates and stars aligned. Elevations moved to Oleson Road, to a much more comfortable and warm feeling space. (Still a full service salon with a LMT onsite). And I made an appointment with Susanne--for color (weave) and cut. When was the last time you walked into work and were greeted with shouts and cheers? I couldn't have been on site more than five minutes when one person, walking by, observed "you look like a coed." (I haven't been a coed in almost twenty years). This wasn't the first time Susanne had done my dye job...each time, I get the same response. The base color is perfect and the highlights stellar. Of course, red fades over time, so I recommend touch up at six weeks. Did I mention the blowout and straightening? Perfect, too. There are other stylists/colorists at Elevations...I think that there are four or five on staff. A couple have a large clientele, and it may be difficult (or a lengthy wait) to get in to see them. I took the first available...and thats how I found Susanne, I can't say enough about her, but I think the rest of the staff is excellent as well. read more

I went an got my hair done by Nicole and she is AMAZING. The salon was cute, there are only two stations, one for her and one for the owner. I got a full head of highlights and Nicole is really amazing at what she does. She's also really sweet and friendly and I had a great time getting to know her. I will definitely be back! This is a full service Salon and NOT one of those chop-shops! They are in the same shopping center as Lamb's Thriftway, Blockbuster, Baskin Robbins, Starbucks, etc in the SW Portland/Tigard/Beaverton area at Garden Home and Oleson Roads. I haven't personally experienced the hair stylists work at this place coz I get my ears-lowered at Sam's Barber Shop, but I am told it is spot-on. I DO know first 'hand' (and feet) that the Nail Technician here is the best REAL Nail Technician in the Portland-Metro-Area and can converse in English. She is very experienced and has a loyal (diehard) following so calling ahead is highly recommended. read more

I recently moved to Portland Oregon from Arizona. One of the first objectives I had was to find a good hairdresser to take care of my extremely overly thick hair. I found Jen and she was able to cut my hair so I have "shaved" (pun intended) 10 minutes off of the blow dry time in the morning. My hair looks great and I'm extremely satisfied with her work. I went to get highlights and a haircut from Kristy today. This was my first appointment, and I am elated that I found an amazing stylist in Portland! When walking in, I was taken back by the gorgeous salon. I was quickly greeted by Kristy and had no wait time. Big plus! On top of that she asked a lot of questions which enabled her to grasp what I wanted and how we can get there. The end result is amazing. She created perfect blonde highlights exactly as I envisioned and a trim to keep my hair growing longer and healthy! My first 2 haircuts with Kristy were fine. On the third, she told me she was running 20 min late, so I sat in their comfy lobby. After half an hour, I went in and saw she was in the middle of foiling someone's hair, and not close to finished. I said "You're not going to be close to 20 min late"; "Oh yes", she said, "I only have about 1/2 hour to go". (I had to tell her she was already 1/2 an hour late and another 1/2 would be and hour late) She told me that I could go an come back, if that would work better . . . My response, " don't you have a 4:00? was met with a "yes"; So I chose to leave, let her get back on schedule; and not go back. She never indicated any concern about what an inconvenience this was for me, nor ever seemed to see it as a problem. In our busy lives, I don't consider this acceptable behavior for a business in the service industry. read more

Kristy gave me--hands down--the best haircut I have EVER received in my life! I have very coarse Asian hair that is straight in most places, but also has a wave that is difficult to deal with. Most stylists have been unsuccessful in providing a cut that "works" for my hair type. Kristy did a fabulous job in a short amount of time. First haircut I've had that I liked on day one and beyond. Previously I've either liked a cut initially, but the growout was bad, or the cut so-so but would improve as it grew out. I found Elevations because I was looking for a salon that was close to Garden Home. I checked out their reviews and I didn't read one bad one. The ability to make appointments online and to even see scheduling options in the future months really was convenient for me. I made my appointment online, received a confirmation and a reminder email AND my stylist, Kristy, was on the ball all the way and sent me a text that morning to confirm. Right when I walked in I felt very at ease and was delighted to meet Kristy. The energy is awesome and I haven't even raved about my haircut and color. Kristy sat me right down and presented me with options for color that would best suit me and she started in. Once the color was done, she began to shape my out of control mess of hair into a styled, super cute, easy to manage hair cut that I am absolutely in love with. Everyone from my friends and family to my co-workers to the checkers at my grocery store have not stopped complimenting me on my new look. I am so happy I found Kristy and her salon. I also like the fact that she isn't a big pusher of overpriced product. I hate to spend more on shampoo and conditioner than I spent on my hair cut and Kristy's hair products are so reasonably priced.
