This review is for the restaurant, not the Express takeout. Stopped here randomly one weeknight with my wife. It was empty and looked clean, cozy, intimate inside. No beer and wine license. Strike 1 for a place with such a great location and atmosphere. Waited 30 minutes for 2 paninis, no exaggeration. Strike 2. Did I mention we were the only people in the place? Maybe that is why. Maybe there were no ingredients prepped because they expected it to be empty. That is the only way I can understand that 2 mediocre paninis which essentially take 5 minutes on the grill took 30 minutes in an empty restaurant. read more

Maybe I was there on a really bad night. Ok - I was definitely there on a bad night - but still. I was with good people and it was BYOB, but otherwise: 1. We waited for a table. And then we sat at that table for 10 minutes without menus, water, or anything. Not even napkins and shit. 2. We ordered 2 medium pizzas. The waiter came back 5 minutes later to ask me to remind him what we wanted on the pizzas. 3. We waited 45 minutes for those pizzas. Still no one had brought us any napkins or utensils. But one of the waiters/owners was watching the mets game at the bar and calling out to the TV when something exciting was happening. 4. The pizzas were not terrible. But they were not good at all. To me they were like Pizza you are forced to eat late night in Cleveland or something - not on a Friday night in NYC. I don't take much joy in writing negative reviews, but this place needs to step its game up in a big way. Oh, on a good note - we did see this like 2 year old going to town on some of the pizza. Great BYO restaurant in a perfect location. I was originally scheduled to go to another spot, but their oven needed repairs last minute so had to find a new restaurant asap. A friend recommended Eleven B and I am so glad they did. It was a perfect BYO spot with great pizza. One of the things I miss most about Philly are BYOs. By default, if a restaurant doesn't have a liquor license, they are de facto BYO. Sadly, this tradition doesn't exist in the Big Apple and my dining experiences have been much more "dry" to say the least. But alas, Eleven B! My savior! Not only is this place BYO, but the food and service make this a great place for a group or a date in Alphabet City. Thankfully the servers were patient because our large group came in batches of 3-4 over the course of a half hour. Upon seating, they immediately put our bottles on ice and antipasto was immediately served. While a bit messy, the selection of cured meats and olives made a great combination of flavors to wet our palettes. While I would've preferred some bread too, the arugula salad it came with was just as nice. And if you're a parmesan fan, this place has got you covered. LARGE shavings of cheese came with every serving of salad. The main course were actually my least favorite part of the meal. While tasty and filling, I thought the baked ziti was a little basic, not much seasoning aside from the pasta and ricotta cheese filling. The pizza was also not too special, although given a few of us were beyond tipsy, it was exactly what we needed. If this place weren't a BYO, I would have definitely given it fewer stars. I wish I could rate this restaurant better because the owner/manager seemed very nice and willing to serve us. Unfortunately, the food is just insanely mediocre here. The menu is pretty average and offers what your regular pizza/pasta restaurant will serve. However, the quality and taste is just not great. Came here on a Saturday night with a friend, and only a few other parties were in the restaurant. We shared the ziti with broccoli in red sauce and the personal-sized white pizza with added prosciutto and mushrooms. Portions were good and perfect for us two, however, the pasta was somewhat overcooked and too soft and the red sauce kind of tasted like it was just straight tomato sauce from a can with nothing added. Not much flavor, no texture and just bleh. The pizza was pretty good and cheesy, but my friend didn't like the ricotta and I disliked that the prosciutto was hard and cooked rather than just raw over the top. Pricing is medium cost but not worth with the quality offered. There are unfortunately many other Italian restaurants in the East Village that are much better. read more

I'm not sure why there isn't a separate listing for 11B, because 11B Express is just the takeout place next door, while 11B is the actual sit-down restaurant. I've never gotten the takeout, so I can only review 11B the restaurant! I love this place, and have had a great experience every time I've been there. It's so low-key and casual, and it's even BYOB! The owner (I think he's the owner) is the only waiter, and he's such a cool guy. The food is also good, but the great experience is what I go for. The prices are also so great - just had dinner there and it only ended up costing $48 for the four of us, including tax and tip. read more

The food is pretty good! Not the best NYC Pizza I've ever had but definitely tasty. Owner came to our table many times to thank us for coming. He was so nice and so accomodating, really made the visit enjoyable. The location here is the best. My friend and I got a corner table and were able to enjoy the lovely cool weather. We shared a bottle of wine, mozz sticks, grilled mushroom appetizer and a medium pizza. Was plently of food & definitely affordable. Next visit I would definitely bring my own alcohol to lower cost. Awful! I just ordered take out. I ordered Manicotti and requested that they go very light on the tomato sauce. When I opened the aluminum container it was filled to the brim with tomato sauce. After attempting to pour out the sauce I was left with pieces of the manicotti shells with the cheese looking rancid. I was nauseated just looking at the mess which I threw away. I now know never to eat anything from this restaurant. Just horrible. I really wish there was a way to enter no stars. read more

11B is the best! The owner Vinnie is such a sweetie and the food is ALWAYS phenomenal. If you didn't know, it's BYOB (only beer/wine) with a $2 corking fee per wine bottle. But the food: holy crap. The lasagna is the best lasagna I have ever had. EVER. It's huge and sooo cheesy. I also recommend the meatball plate, eggplant Parm, and white pizza. But everything is amazing. Had a birthday dinner here a few weeks ago and couldn't be happier with the experience! We had about 12 people and it was a $35 price fix deal - BYO with NO charge! - and with all the appetizers, a pizza course, and several entrees (all served family style) we had MORE than enough food for everyone. They went above and beyond and we left at least half of every dish they served - we were very satisfied! They also did not care how many bottles of beer or wine we brought in. Very lax! I was very impressed with 11B. The pizza is good, though not the best ever, but still very good. What left me most impressed was their wine list and more specifically their wine list prices. The food is good and the portions are very large for the pasta...I always have leftovers...yum! I generally always get delivery so I cannot speak to eating at the restaurant but my food is always piping hot even in the winter with delivery. The sauce is good...its a nice basic sauce that isn't to acidic. The cheese and the ricotta were all nice and melted and perfect. The place where they lost 2 stars (yes 2 he was that bad) is the delivery guy...horrible...He was rude and nearly just shoved the bag into my hands because he couldn't figure out how the buzzer worked to get into my building...my building is new...so it's all digital. I guess he didn't want to scroll down so he just called me and asked me to come get my food...I don't live in a walk up I live on the first floor... I wish I could get my tip back because this jerk didn't even deserve a penny. *Eleven B hire nicer delivery guys-I'll even take cordial. We live 1/2 a block away from here, so it's a pretty good choice when we don't feel like going far or making a decision. Honestly, the food is good, not amazing, but no major complaints. The pizza is way better than any of the pastas or entrees I've tried. Major plus - it's BYOB! That alone lets you get over the mediocre food... especially if you really just want to drink wine and eat pizza and be 1/2 a block away from home. Try it if in you're in the area! I have been coming to this pizza shop ever since it opened. It is a phenomenal place. The owner and the staff are great people. As a regular, I come in here to order a salad or mozzarella sticks. I would order a pizza from time to time BUT I am currently on a diet. In any case, the cuisine is phenomenal and the sauce is spectacular. Although the owner will refuse to tell anyone his secret to his marinara sauce, he is very helpful and has a great sense of humor. The only reason I did not give this place a full blown 5 stars are a few thing. 1. I noticed the workers get distracted easily and talk a bit too much. 2. The workers need to learn how to use the Debit/Credit card machine. I noticed they will only wait till the owner comes to swipe it for them. In the event the owner is not around, then what will happen? Over all, this place is phenomenal. Just a few tweaks need to be made. read more

Went to this place a few weeks ago, the fact that I'm writing this review now shows how much it scarred me(not really). The food/pricing/service was honestly insulting. Ordered a small pizza and some meatballs with my girlfriend, despite us being 2 of the 5 people, the food took roughly 40 minutes to finally get to us, only to end up being really really disappointing. Also even though it's an "Italian" place, id barely consider it that. Yea they sell pizza but besides that there maybe 2-3 kinds of pasta you can get. Anyways... I hope whoever owns this place can improve upon it because there is much potential and unless you're into all the stuff mentioned above, I would not go. read more

We had a really great meal here. The waitress was incredibly knowledgeable, helpful, generous and always had a great smile. We were impressed that she was able to take such good care of us while also making sure every other table was happy as well. We even heard the table next to us comment on what a great job she was doing. We are from New York City and know good pizza, and while we didn't have high expectations for the pizza here, it turned out to be one of the best in the city. The atmosphere was perfect. It was clean, and well maintained. We also liked the fact that it was on the corner of the block and had all those windows. It's always a pleasure to meet the owner durning the meal and it was a nice touch to have met him. It made us feel a little bit special. We will return and tell others to as well. read more

I ordered a pie from here one night. I wasn't expecting much from this East Village joint, but was pleasantly surprised with the thin crust pizza. The crust was perfect (not rubbery) and held up to toppings and sauce without getting soggy and limp. There's something wrong with this place. When I booked for lunch today I was told there was no availability until 1 PM. When I got there there was not one customer there, just one guy back in the kitchen who but reluctantly allowed my friend and Me in for lunch. The place was grim and dirty --we considered leaving but what the heck. We ordered our food: salads a pizza, a hamburger. Took a great deal of time for the food to arrive and when it did it was acceptable certainly not outstanding. Still no other customers joined us in the restaurant and our plates sat in front of us piled with the remains of our lunch for a good long while before the fellow in the back came to clear. OK that's OK. But when my friend questioned the bill (almost $60 for the above mentioned food and one Diet Coke), the server went into a rage. It was truly uncomfortable. More like two and a half stars, but I round up cuz I'm nice like that. - The good: decent pizza, not too thin, not too thick, quick delivery. - The bad: both sauce and cheese are a little bland, $2.50 for each additional "barely there" topping. !!! - The ugly: I asked for black olives, I think I got the equivalent of ONE all chopped up. Excuse me, but I know an entire can of olives costs $2.50, unless these olives were plucked from a tree in Greece planted by Zeus himself. If they were, they didn't taste like it. It's a recession, but really?? C'mon, a girl's got to have her olives! After a few bites and deciding it need something more, I added granulated garlic, salt, freshly ground pepper, red pepper flakes and grated parmigiano reggiano... then stuck it under the broiler for another few minutes. Did I mention there was also sausage? You should always assume there's some kind of meat in my meals. The Italian sausage was good, though also given on the miserly side. So, while I wouldn't ever crave 11B, I wouldn't be opposed to ordering from it if all the other pizza joints in my neighborhood suddenly stopped delivering. read more

Oftentimes us Manhattanites find our "spots" - our Chinese/Sushi place we swear by, the one and only bagelry we'll consider eating from, and our usual "I'm ordering some kind of delivery" restaurant. 11B is the latter -- over the last 3 years they've yet to let me down with their Italian delivery fare. The pizza may be average/good at best (we New Yorkers are spoiled -- try what they have in Texas or Florida and you'll rank 11B 5 stars), but the dishes are easily on the high side in light of the neighborhood competitors. Dare I say mediocre experience. Went in with a group of 8 people, one of the first groups in the restaurant. Waiter forgot to put in me and a friend's food order. Didn't come check on our table and had to flag him down after 30 minutes after everyone in our party had received their meals. Understandably, it ended up being a busy night for 11B-there was a party of 20+ seated nearby shortly after we arrived. But, here's the deal--after you forget someone's food, it shouldn't take an additional 45 minutes to bring it out. Which it did. And that's a bummer waiting nearly an hour and 15 minutes to get your food. We ordered the Ziti w/ Meatballs and Chicken Piccata. Ziti pasta was over done and the sauce was really watery. The two meatballs included in the dish seemed like an after thought, and were rather depressed small and cold-as if they just emerged from the Russian Gulag. The $20 Chicken Picatta was decent... It had some Chicken Picatta... and that's it. Just Chicken Picatta. Nothing else. No pasta, greens. Nada. For $20, I could have walked to a store, bought some chicken, butter, capers, and pasta, and made a BETTER meal in QUICKER time than these guys did. Only giving it two stars because they comped our meal (only after we had to haggle them from giving us a round of beers instead... Even after we had brought our own lol). There are WAY better Italian places in this city. Eat elsewhere. read more

Went to the restaurant. Place was pretty much empty when we rolled in and stayed that way for most of the time we were there. Staff is pretty attentive, its BYOB so they dont need to be around as much. Pizza (had pepperoni) was pretty good would give it 3.5 out of 5. The sandwiches were a little better at 4 out of 5. grand total for splitting a large pizza with tax and tip was $10 so i def cannot hate on that. would go back if i was in the neighborhood again. read more
