Bad pizza and rude employees. Went here late one night and one of the guys in there tried to overcharge me. Stay away.

A slice of plain pizza was $3.75 which i ate. Frank's Trattoria is on First Avenue and the pizzeria hides a restaurant at the back. My late neighbor Patrick often ordered dinner from there and occasionally gave me some to eat. The poached shrimp was always tasty. Here the pizza tasted fine but they wouldn't sell me one garlic knot. I had to get four. I refused. Service was stern and unfriendly. read more

Super fab! Wandered in not knowing what to expect. Front kind of typical pizza parlor then back opens to a magic nice dining room. Waiter recommended the Halibut, which was noton the menu as it just carrived, so I ordered it. Perfect! Plus the meals come with in-house made loaf of bread and a nice salad. You walk into a pizzeria in the front but should venture into the back to the restaurant where it is a cozy local mom and pop style great Italian restaurant. The owner is an older Italian woman who is always walking around the restaurant making sure everyone is doing well. It is not as fancy as some Italian places in the neighborhood but if you want good home made Italian food go here. The menu is extensive unlike some other restaurants in the area. The fresh bread is baked on premises and served warm with butter. The salad that you can order included in some meals is the perfect size and the dressing is true home made Italian dressing just like my Nonna (Italian for grandmother) used to make. The pasta Sinatra with white sauce had many pieces of shrimp and muscles, and was delicious. The baked ziti and ravioli are always delicious (recommend cheese ravioli) which comes with plenty of cheese on top. I had a different dish--something rustica--a special with fettuccine, meat sauce and eggplant and a few other vegetables. It was quite tasty. Others in my party had scrimp scampi, which I tasted and was excellent. One other dish was penne ala vodka, which we always like. And the fried calamari was excellent as usual. Lovely neighborhood staple. Their Sole Francese is my favorite in the city. It feels frozen in time and it's so comforting.

Absolutely amazing pizza! 100% chefs kiss & the waiter recommended wine sangria with my Margherita pizza. Brought my friend here for her first time & she said the pizza makes her want to move to NYC! 4.25 for a slice is insane..its not specialty pizza like an artichoke or mamas too..not a huge slice like Williamsburg pizza..basic corner spot..Roma is comparable basic corner pizza down the block. Their slice is 1.5 times the size and I believe is 3.50. Lucia is opening soon 3rd ave same street..that's well known specialty pizza place..they need to adjust prices soon as this is a 3.25 slice type of place not 4.25 read more

Food is generally very good We have dined there several times and it is a nice back room. Service is good. The majority of of our business Is delivery. Most of the times it is delivered right on time as I have asked. The only issue I have had is that several times the person taking the phone order doesn't communicate well so you must repeat and make sure it is understood exactly what you want. read more

There is a nice old-school restaurant behind the pizza counter area. This review is about the restaurant and not the pizza section. My friend knows that I like to go to hidden gems and this is one. This is a hidden gem. You enter and it looks like a little fast-eat pizza shop, but the back door opens up to an old school classical and intimate nyc italian restaurant. I ordered the chicken francese with linguini which was so tender and juicy and sauce was cooked to perfection (mind you this is one of my favorite dishes ever- hard critic) and fried calamari which was also great. For starters, perhaps make sure there aren't any foreign objects in the pizza. I just went to get two slices. I got home and on my second bite almost broke a tooth. I don't want to shit on the little corner pizza/Italian shop but I'll have to for this one...food-wise, they're trying to do a decent job with their pizza slices but unfortunately due to low traffic, the pizzas sit in the counter for a little while - I got a pepperoni slice which, after being reheated, didnt really taste well. My main concern, though, was that the price for the slice was $4.5 and when I asked to pay by card, the lady took my card and charged $5 without asking - also when I checked my credit card a couple days later it showed $5.25 lol - this is not a hit on my wallet by any means tbh but I don't like shady practices even if a business might be struggling to survive. read more

Updating my review because Felipe reached out to me personally, apologized and we had a bit of a heart to heart! It's really honorable when a business is accepting of feedback and I don't feel uncomfortable going back to eat here anymore! In fact, I will come for food tonight! We ordered from Frank's again and seeing that they actually had a pepper and egg hero sandwich, I was impressed about the authenticity of their menu. I haven't seen a pepper and egg sandwich since I left my heavily Italian neighborhood in Brooklyn and Manganaro's shut their doors. A huge tasty bite of nostalgia filled my gullet with joy. My partner ordered a salad as a side with his chicken cordon bleu (unusual for an Italian kitchen but real good with prosciutto as the ham part) He left the salad so I had it for a light lunch today and found it still is one of the best side salads I have ever eaten. Again, greens so fresh you want to slap them. I don't usually do a follow up unless something bad happens or something more impresses me about a restaurant. But I need to make sure this little Trattoria stays in business. Reasonably priced quality restaurants are an endangered species, especially since the COVID hit the fan and must be saved at all cost. I also increased my rating from good to great because I could not find a negative in this experience. I am ordering in a lot these days because of health issues but we hope to get there by the end of the summer. As good as the food is delivered, it is always better at the source. Now, if they only put scungilli on the menu, it would be like dying and going to heaven. But, that item has been in extremely short supply these days, so I don't really expect to see it anywhere. The last time I had excellent scungilli was at Carmines (the 108 year old restaurant at the South Street Seaport, not the other one uptown). I absolutely love it here!!! A true staple of stuytown and Peter cooper village. Pizza in the front, restaurant in the back- so cool, hard to find nowadays. Every server from Rosa to Florentino and Del (Delfino) are just wonderful and very attentive. Flat out great people and great at what they do! Pro tip: the sangria (red or white) is a must!!! I come here at least 4 times a month and each time is wonderful. Very old school, always a good meal and classic ambiance. My two favorite dishes are the shrimp scampi and the chicken piccata. Old school Italian! Great food, huge portions , great service. Been coming for years. Good prices. It never disappoints. If you want chicken breast Italian as served at those Midwest Chains, this is not the place for you. If you want authentic Southern Italian ( and some Northern) big portions at fair prices, then come to Frank's. No not trendy, but you can't eat trendy. Yes, scungilli would be a good addition to the menu , as suggested by another reviewer. I have eaten authentic Italian, as born and raised in NYC ( and childhood in Bensonhurst Italian) so know a "little" about REAL NYC Italian food ( and traveled multiple times to Italy). This is not "Italian" food served at a middle America mall. Unfortunately with the dumbing down of American food, the so-called "hipsters" raised outside of NYC flock to the generic " Italian " restaurants leaving places like Frank's empty. We want Frank's and real NYC restaurants to stay in business. Olive Garden and Rosemary's with their generic "Italian" need to stay outside NYC. Tip: try Clams Posillipo! Excellent menu. Can't go wrong with any item. Love the "garlic special" pizza. Great "red sauce" dishes too - spaghetti and meatballs is so yummy - so is the calamari - two of my favorites. I have been coming here since 1994. Also the baked clams are excellent - and save some of the bread to soak up the plate. Looking forward to returning. Asked for 2 cheese slices that were advertised as $3 per slice. Guy at the end tells me it's $6.50. Okay fine, it's the pandemic and I know you're hurting so whatever, it's only $0.50 extra. Gave them my card, and they put $6.50 on it. Two days later, they changed it to $6.75. Sure it's only $0.75 but it not about money, it's about ethics and principles. If they advertised it as $3.375 per slice, I would have gladly paid it, but they didn't. They covertly changed the price not once, but twice. It is bad business to scam your customers and I don't like being taken in for a sucker. Epitome of give them an inch and they take a mile. Response to owner: No, it's not a processing fee. Spin it however you want but when you go and change the price after swiping my card, that's fraud no matter what amount. I didn't care about the extra $0.25 cents in the grand scheme of things, but I can only guess how many unsuspecting customers lose a quarter here and there and don't realize it. read more

This is a nice reasonably priced neighborhood restaurant. There is a pizza place in the front and a dinning room in the main restaurant. I have eaten here several times and always enjoyed the food. The restaurant didn't bother reading the special instructions and gave us the wrong sauce on the bland pasta. The baked clams were poorly cooked, tasted terrible.
