I have been here twice and while I enjoyed the food both times I did not leave as satisfied the second time. Breakfast and coffee with family and friends was the first occasion. You order at counter and food is brought to your table. The food was delicious and portions were generous. Atmosphere keeps the conversation and eyes going. Very clever and fun. Even the dishware was fun. Second trip we decided to try the high tea service. A menu of assorted teas and a prefixed food menu. My daughter made reservations and prepaid for our lunch ahead of time. We discussed price point and we believed it to be $48 a couple because who goes to tea alone? Turns out it was $41 per person. This is steep for lunch especially considering what it includes. Tea, a tower of treats; this works out to be 2- half sandwiches each (chicken and cucumber and whipped feta) a very small egg salad on 2-3 bite croissant, a scone with fixings and about 2-3 quarter sized macarons per person. This is very not nearly as generous as their daily menu portions. We had a reserved table and a waitress took our tea order from the table and delivered all items to the table except any napkins or utensils. We still needed to go get them from a centrally located area for diners. Our waitress was very sweet but obviously inexperienced and wasn't clear on how the high tea worked and it took about 40 minutes just to get the tea. Most disappointing was the bread. It was very dry and crumbly so sandwiches were falling or crumbling apart as we ate them. So as far as value is concerned, the high tea was not a good value in my opinion. read more

Come for the gimmicks and drinks, NOT for the food. We came in on Thursday, July 2nd. We ordered our food at 10:37am. Food did not get to us until 11:14, which is UNACCEPTABLE considering the items we got. Additionally, we had to sit in the hot heat while we waited, absolutely NO AIR CONDITIONING. After we waited all that time, I received the BLANDEST tomato soup I had ever been served. I'm not exaggerating. I understand this place is trying to be healthy or whatever, but even VEGANS USE MORE SPICES THAN THIS PLACE. My partner got the waffles, and they were OVERCOOKED. The only saving grace that this place has is the drinks, which came out in a reasonable fashion, and the pictures you can take. Skip the food, just order a drink if you really want to come here and take LOTR-themed pictures. I will not be coming back again. 1 star. read more

Came here with our son visiting from Seattle - and who is a huge LOTR fan. He loved the decor and the food. His French toast was cooked perfectly (not too dry or lacking spices as sometimes happens). My wife liked the eggs Benedict and I was very happy with my scallion pancake wrap, which was a full meal plus enough for a light breakfast the next day. The coffee drinks, hot or cold, are a nice change up from what we usually order at any of the half-dozen amazing and friendly coffee shops / bakeries within a few hundred yards. My orange mocha was a mocha but with a light and delicious overlay of orange. My wife loved her cinnamon bun latte - we'll have to make these at home on a cold blustery evening. read more

I had stumbled across Elevenses before they even opened. We only finally made it over to check them out recently. I absolutely loved the ambience and vibe as soon as we walked in. It was pretty magical -- the theme, decor + atmosphere was very inviting. Our first visit was just for drinks and our next visit we had to try out the breakfast menu! We enjoyed everything we've gotten so far -- the coffees are great (we've tried the Ube Latte + Biscoff Cookie Butter Latte and my kids enjoyed the hot chocolate) and the food was yummy! I have been itching to try Elevenses since before it opened and I heard there was a LOTR/Hobbit themed bakery coming. And it was worth the wait! Walking in, you're transported into the world of Hobbiton. There's a big Hobbit door on the left hand side, incredible themed decor everywhere, and sweet Hobbity music playing. The menu is a good size, and I had a hard time deciding what to get! I ultimately went with the eggs Benedict and was absolutely blown away. The food was hot, delicious, and filling. The vibe is cool. Lord of the rings or not, it felt cozy and inviting. I love the decor and atmosphere. Staff were friendly and helpful. Maple latte in cauldron cup was cool. Several breakfast and bakery options available. The food was tasty. I had the scone with jelly and clotted cream. Reminiscent of my favorite English tea house. I also had the burger with poached egg on top. The sweetness surprised me at first, but it definitely worked. My friend had the smoked salmon Benny. It, too, was good. I didn't like the fact that the menu doesn't list prices. When I saw our tab, I realized why. $75 for two breakfast entrees, one latte, a Bloody Mary and a scone. I'm a massive LOTR fan so when I heard about this place I was so excited to come. In decor and theme it does not disappoint -- there's a whole hobbit house photo wall and the shards of Narsil embedded in a bar and neon signs and plenty of fun Easter egg style details throughout. There's also just some basic fantasy forest and Irish stuff which, yknow, close enough lol. But more importantly is the food! Well, the foods pretty good. There's nice sandwiches and there's a sort of rosemary shortbread lembas bread that has a cookie dough like texture in a good way. There's a whole menu of crazy coffee and tea drinks that sound lovely and look pretty fancy. We opted for the frozen pink lemonade which was nice but more of a shaved ice than a slushee. I also tried this Angel food cake Ube dessert that i think had some fine shredded cheese shavings on top? Also tasty. The menus are physically small and hard to read and there doesn't seem to be any info on their site about food offerings. Wish they'd update that so it's just clearer. The biggest down side to this place is that they're pretty slow. It seems like an operations issue more than anything else -- hope they can get it together because I'd love to see this place flourish! I'd love it if they did some Afterhours cocktail stuff but as is, I'm happy it exists as a brunch place. read more

We stopped in to Elevenses while walking by, just to see the place. However, the menu intrigued us enough to get a few drinks. I got the ube matcha and my friend ordered the banana bread matcha. Both of the matchas were absolutely delicious! The drinks were well-made and original. I'm a fan of matcha but have never had either of these flavors before. This place has a fun theme, but in my opinion, the drinks alone are enough reason to come here. I think that's hard to achieve with a themed place, so I'm very impressed! read more

Was hoping they would be open in time for my July visit. I have been following on Instagram since the beginning of the year in anticipation, but it had just begun the soft opening stage. The interior is beautifully decorated with so many details. You can tell they put a lot of work into it. As for the food and drink - I ordered a green dragon (matcha latte) and a scone with clotted cream and jam from the counter. The matcha had good flavor (I prefer mine a little sweet so I added sugar). The scone was a bit cold, dry and dense, but had good flavor. Would have been better if it were warm/room temp and could add the toppings on my own. My order did not take long since the scone was already made. My sister in law got a lavender latte, which was dusted with dried lavender - aesthetically pleasing, but was not pleasant to drink dried flowers. The only gluten free/dairy free food option that day was the avocado toast. Our friend couldn't finish the banana bread (was not a fan). The iced drinks did not come with tops if taking to go (fine if dining in) and none were available at the table with straws (didn't want to bother the busy counter with a line of people waiting). My sister in law accidentally stuck her hand in my cup while in the car. They should have more paper menus for customers to review while waiting in line. They only had 1 or 2 floating around and one chalkboard at the counter, which slowed the line because no one knew what they wanted by the time they reached the register. The large tables give a communal vibe, but many cafe goers tend to be singles or pairs and may not want to sit with people they don't know. Would love for this place to succeed, but there are some kinks to work out. read more

I had high hopes for Elevenses, as a diehard LOTR fan. I love the concept, the decor and the ambiance, but overall my experience here was not great. I came here with a friend on a Sunday at 11 and it was pretty packed - not with people sitting at tables, but with a long, barely-moving line. It seemed the issue stemmed at least in part from the fact that the food menu was positioned directly in front of the counter you order at, meaning it was not visible until it was literally time to order. There were no other menus, either paper menus or a hanging menu board, for food options. The drink menu is hung on the wall so you can actually peruse while you wait in line. After about 40 minutes in line in the sweltering restaurant (there was one small AC unit that wasn't doing much by way of cooling), we finally placed our orders. I ordered the egg and cheese sandwich, which I ordered without bacon, and was told they were out of biscuits so the sandwich would be served on an English muffin. I was too hot and impatient to pick something else, so English muffin sandwich it was. I also ordered a drip coffee and a piece of "lembas bread," a rosemary shortbread. The total came to about $20 before tip. The food was ok. The lembas bread (shortbread): very tasty. Crumbly and buttery. Sweeter than I was expecting. Tasted like a big shortbread cookie with rosemary. Drip coffee: fine. Lukewarm. Egg and cheese sandwich: tasted like what I could get at Dunkin for $5. Fried egg plus a slice of American cheese on a grocery store English muffin. The fact that I must have paid about $12 for this (no prices on the menu so I'm making a guess) is outrageous. Overall, you are definitely paying for the ambiance and the novelty. The food is mediocre and the ordering experience is hellish. I will not be back. read more

We visited Elevenses Cafe & Bakery today. For anyone who loves Tolkien anywhere near as much as I do, you will be blown away by the decor and amazing attention to detail. The menu options are aptly named treats and spirits that fit the second breakfast theme. All of the items we tried were really great. The staff were very nice too. Word of mouth has really spread, because there was a line to the door the entire time we were there. They need to figure out the logistics of order taking and delivering food once ready, as the wait time is much to long. The cost is on the higher end, but the experience and ambiance is worth it. read more

We made a stop at Elevenses today since we were headed towards Harpswell and are really glad we did! They're still in soft opening mode, so the menu is a little limited, but everything we ordered was fresh and tasty! Breakfast sandwich, Baked tater, and a scone. All yummy! The staff was very kind and appreciated our fawning over the decor. Which is, quite plainly, amazing. So many details you'd think you were in the Green Dragon in Hobbiton or in Frodo's home in Bag End. There are a number of tables with comfy cushions, too! The coffee line was a little to long for us to wait for, but the drinks we saw come out looked fantastic and tied back to LOTR with their themes and names. After a long anticipated wait, that has been pushed back a handful of times they have finally at least soft opened! I can at least speak to their first Sunday open (today) and wow did a crowd show up eager and ready to give this place a try. A large crowd was waiting and for over an hour and a half a line was from the ordering all the way out the door. They have been tons of details that any fan of Lord of Rings would appreciate. From wall decor, to the large hobbit house door, to the perfectly named coffees and cocktails! Their menu both drink and food were limited per the soft opening. They are also dealing with the learning curves and issues you expect for a soft opening but all of them were doing so with a smile on their face and good attitudes. Working hard to keep drinks and food coming out. We wanted to sample both some food with coffee and after some cocktails from the bar! We both enjoyed a bacon breakfast sandwich on a pepper jack biscuit that were delicious and avoided the common issue of a biscuit being too dry. Some other offerings were scones, cloud cake, lembas bread, fruit salad cup and some more. Coffee wise I tried the two towers tiramisu and my wife got Beorn's Honeycomb Latte and we enjoyed both, the honeycomb came with a huge piece of honeycomb on top. They had some speciality tea drinks, matchas, and chai lattes so we will need to return! Lastly to cap it off with a full experience we needed to try a brunch cocktail as well! I gave their themed take on an old fashioned a take aptly named Bamfurlong's Stolen Crops that used sweet potato syrup and charred marshmallows as garnish. My wife gave their Summer Dreamsicle Mimosa a try with some delicious coconut cream that gave Pina colada vibes. So do yourself a favor and check this place out if you are a Lord of the Rings fan or not. Get your morning caffeine fix, enjoy second breakfast, or indulge in some delicious cocktails (they should feature some mocktails I heard when fully opened). Elevenses is a cute breakfast spot. As a huge Lord of the Rings fan, I knew I needed to go. We went during one of the first weekends after re-opening so it was very busy and staff appeared a bit overwhelmed. One of the card readers was down and the bakery area was empty, not sure why. Make sure you arrive early if you don't want to wait in a massive line!! I think they are still working out efficiency, the girl who took our order was also making drinks while there was a line going out the door. As previously mentioned, the second card reader was down and the staff didn't appear skillful enough to problem solve moving to a different area for support. Fortunately we were the first ones there so we were able to get our food and drinks quickly. The mimosa, latte, and breakfast sandwich were all delicious. I really enjoyed the sauce on the sandwich and the biscuit was divine. On this particular day we saw they sold out of everything by 1 PM, so I highly recommend getting there early in the day. The ambiance is cute. The owners clearly put a lot of thought into the details, down to the menu item names and cue cards. I think they could improve the music, which felt very Elven Realm from World of Warcraft. It would be fun to play the soundtracks from Lord of the Rings, at least in the morning when the (likely) mega fans come in. I also think seating is an area for improvement. I think they were trying to create a space for people to mingle by having mostly big tables, but there aren't a lot of spaces for more introverted guests. Overall, I would go back, but I'll probably wait for it to calm down a bit. read more

The ambience was nice with the hobbit / Lord of the Rings themed decor, they had a large hobbit door which is located inside the cafe. Unfortunately, the food menu was only viewable via a chalkboard on the ground which was blocked by customers in line. The pricing for the food seemed high for what one ordered. I got a latte which took over 20min to get despite the place not being too busy and my friend's latte coming out in 5min. My poutine fries didn't come with the egg I had paid extra for, so I had to go back to ask them to add it. Then my friend found a long red hair in her drink and lost her appetite. The food was alright, homey but not too creative and the portions were smallish despite the high price tag. I was excited to go check out this themed cafe, but felt very underwhelmed by the experience. I don't think I'd return, but glad I at least was able to check it out as I'm a LOTR fan. read more

Visited as a party of seven for a 2nd breakfast on an October Sunday. Ambiance is great, it is this establishment's main attraction. It's a counter service restaurant. Place your order, find a table and the only server on staff will deliver your food and drinks. This aspect of service needs improvement. Our food items were delivered two at a time, with other orders leaving the kitchen three times before our table was fully served. The food itself was fair. The Eggs Benedict and the potato entrees were too salty. The sandwich items were better in this regard. The avocado toast was heavy with balsamic. Overall, three stars is a generous review. I feel 2.5 is more appropriate, but they clearly needed two more people front of house. If I visit again it will not be mid-morning on a Sunday. read more

Very disorganized. I get they are still in the "soft opening" phase, but that doesn't mean they can't have their shit together. No menus until you go up to the counter and the writing is so small, I had to bend over to read it. I've been seeing posts about their cocktails and I ask when it will be open and the lady at the counter said in a few weeks.. whenever that is. I ask about the "second breakfast" and what that is and the lady looks at me like I asked something crazy. She said "second breakfast?". I said "yes, the one posted on your wall and online?" I pointed. She had to go ask and they said they weren't serving it. . I ordered the tiramisu coffee and the only thing that made it a tiramisu was the ladyfinger placed on top of the coffee. Other wise, it just tasted like iced coffee and wasn't good. If you like lord of the rings, go for it. The only good thing was the decor. read more

We're pretty decent LOTR fans and were pleasantly surprised to discover this place. You'd be hard pressed to find the Prancing Pony on the streets of Brunswick, ME, but this place goes a long way towards that. The ambiance is wonderful and the staff all seem happy to be there, which is saying a lot since we're dropped in 30 minutes before closing. We got a blood orange mimosa and a pumpkin cream cold brew. She was very happy with her mimosa and I loved my cold brew. It's November and I've left pumpkin behind, but this one of the best pumpkin cold brews I've had and definitely the best cold foams. We shared Thanksgiving leftovers poutine. Let me tell you.... Honestly, fanatic. They need to enter this into next years Poutine Fest.... Yes, that good. The fries were crisp all the way through, the cheese pulled all the way to the end, the gravy was delicious and it had a hearty helping of Thanksgiving leftovers for two people to be full. We stopped here after watching LOTR at a local theater, and got to try out their early launch of an evening menu. It was absolutely fantastic. They were super accomidating and went out of their way to make us feel welcomed. We got to try their herbed butter candle along with some rustic bread and let me tell you, it was wild how tasty that butter was, not to mention the fun of the butter candle. We had a BBQ burger along with the pretzel and beer cheese, as well as a cocktail and a mulled wine. It was quite possibly the best beer cheese we have ever had, and the burger was fantastic as well. The cocktail was brilliantly balanced and absolutely gorgeous in presentation as well. Obviously the decor and vibe of the whole place is incredible. It does a great job of blending cozy and fantasy along with a modern cafe/bistro. Can't wait to go back, and overall hope to see their evening menu open soon. read more

As a Hobbit themed restaurant I would expect large portions and to leave full. The food was pretty basic, expensive and most of all SMALL. I left still hungry and craving a second breakfast. My advice would be they open a little later, say 10 or 11 and make the meals larger. Also do away with the ordering at the register hire a waitress to take orders at your table.
