Dr. Petroczy was excellent but everything else was a mess. The front desk LOST my insurance card, I was quoted a bogus number for my exam which ended up being over $100 more and there were papers and files strewn on the floor. The MA brought out tools from a dirty looking drawer, there was a hair sticking out of the place where I was supposed to lean my forehead and the whole place was just disorganized and unsanitary. Had trifocals glasses made. I can read better with old prscription than the new one. would not change the glasses. 2nd pair the reading glasses were useless, had to call 2X when they forgot to summit a credit to my credit card company. Would not recogment this bussiness. read more

Our doctor had a medical emergency and needed a last minute reschedule. We understand and that's perfectly fine. We can reschedule. But spent about 15 minutes on the phone with two female receptionists, telling them that we both work and won't be available until after 6pm on weekdays. They kept putting us on hold only to come back saying we can squeeze you in on Wednesday evening at 2pm. I don't get what part of after 6pm do they not understand. They need more competent receptionists since these two don't know that 6pm is after 2pm. Waste of our time and made an appointment with the neighboring place instead. read more

I purchased a pair of glasses 2.5 months ago, the plastic nose piece broke. They fixed the problem, that night I was cleaning my glasses and the weld came off from the nose piece. They claimed that considering I did not purchase extra insurance they could not help me. I asked if I bought the glasses and they broke the next day would they fix. They said no. Buyer beware. The optometrists are great though just not the glasses and support. They lost my family's business. To add to that when purchasing glasses they send you to the expensive section automatically before knowing your budget. Maybe that's why mine broke, I went with the 179.00 frame instead of the 300 dollar frame. read more

Illiterate doctors doesn't even know the difference between requirement and recommendation. They are just b***s*****g. They don't know what is good for the patient and what not. Also their staff doesn't know how to talk with the patient and doesn't want to listen and understand the concern that patient have. This place is amazing. The doctors here actually care about your eye health. Dr. Nakajima is one of the best doctors in the area. Dr. Brazier is amazing with kids. He is able to get the exam done even with special needs children. This is not your box cutter in and out eye exam place. This place takes care of you. read more

PLEASE SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY! My daughter and I both went for an eye exam and new glasses. They had me fill out paperwork and took my insurance info and told me all was good. We saw the doctor and both agreed he far exceeded out expectations and believed we had found our new family eye doctor. When we went to leave the admin working at the front desk told us they wouldn't accept my insurance. When i questioned her as to why she didn't inform me of that before we saw the doctor she became rude and told me they normally do and she's not sure what happened. No apology, only rude behavior. I told her to give me my prescription so we can take our glasses purchase business elsewhere, she sighed, handed it to me and then went about her business without an after thought. So, improved vision finally made it to the top of my priority list and I went to get my eyes checked. The doctor at EFEC was great. I have never had an optometrist take so much time and care. Normally you get that "Which one is better 1 or 2?" and you kind of guess because they both pretty much look the same. The doctor was very professional but really took the time to find the perfect prescription for me. The only real drawback was that you have to pay up front. My insurance covered $170 toward the test and frames but I had to wait 6 weeks to get the money back. I was told my the assistant that it would only take 2 weeks. If you don't mind dishing out some extra dough and having to wait a month and a half to get it back then this is a great place to go. read more

This practice is dragging their feet writing me a check for a reimbursement from my insurance company. I paid in full at the time of service. I submitted a claim to my insurance and they sent the reimbursement check to Elgin Family Eye instead of directly to me. I have wasted way too much time pursuing them to return my money and would not recommend doing business with them. read more

BEWARE!!!! They overcharge you and bill your insurance in a way that it goes under major medical and not just an eye exam. Then they sent me a bill that was clearly marked in being due in 7 days. I called and complained several times. They gave me several excuses that were not truthful. read more

Did my homework, called ahead for a contact fitting, asked prices and documentation needs - made the appointment, confirmed fees, and then the old Bait and Switch when I got there, gave one price over the phone for the exam, then demanded add-ons when I got there or they would not even go ahead with the fitting. They over schedule and under perform. You might as well come late too, they do. All I got was "yes" on the phone and "no" when I got there. Total waste of time and planning. I never even got to see the Doc. The Doc wouldn't even bother to talk to me!, he just sent his staff to arm twist for more services that I already had done recently. So, sad. After having some severe issues with one of my eyes that took me to a retina specialist, then a cataract which was removed by an opthamologist, then being unable to tolerate my contact in my good eye and the ophthalmologist couldn't solve the problem, I was ready to give up on contacts. That brought me to Elgin Family Eye Care as they are a provider in network for my insurance so I would be able to get glasses at a good price. What a surprise, I feel like I got a more thorough exam from this doctor than the higher priced ophthalmologist I had been seeing. He was able to determine what the problem was with my eye, gave me medication that fixed it and a new kind of contact that feels great. And to go the extra mile, I was leaving on vacation before my order would be in so they were kind enough to give me extra free trials to get me through until I returned. I'll never go back here. After my mom switched jobs and we had to find a new doctor in network, we found EFEC. Long story short, they didn't get us in right away (despite the office being empty AND we even arrived 15 minutes early to fill out the new patient forms), until we explained I had to leave for class at a specific time. Then I was rushed through an exam (really no big deal because I know how they go). They didn't perform all the tests, but charged me for both a contacts and glasses exam! I've never been charged for both, as every eye doctor has told me they can give me the glasses prescription after figuring it out from the contacts prescription. On top of that, they WAY overcharged me for my contacts, even though they claimed to have given me an "office discount" AND applied my insurance. If I had ordered through 1-800-Contacts, I would have spent $340.47, but I had to pay EFEC $464! I am extremely angry with how they consistently overcharged me and will NEVER be returning. read more

Do not use this clinic....business practices are unfriendly to customers. Got my vision tested here and as Wendy indicated I needed to pay up front. The amount they said my insurance would cover was wrong so I had more out of pocket than was represented to me. I purchased glasses and contacts and discovered the contact prices were much higher than most places. I work construction and I tend to be "rough" on contacts. I recently requested a copy of my prescription so that I could order more contacts (from a cheaper place). I was given a hard time about the prescription. When I did receive it, the Dr had written across the notes that I had already received a 1 yr supply. Again...I am rough on contacts. I ordered contacts from an online service and provided them the prescription. When they tried to confirm the prescription, EFEC provided a copy that now read "DO NOT REFILL Patient has already received a 1 yr supply". This tactic slowed down my reorder by 1 day but did not prevent it. The tactic did however create a very unhappy FORMER customer. Run from this business....unfortunate because I usually try to support local businesses. read more
