Perhaps my favorite restaurant in the area. The food is consistent and consistently good, and the decor is above the usual New Castle have not updated since the '90s vibe. The house dressing is garlic to the max, and that is a very good thing. I have been told the kibbi is excellent, but I have not tried it myself since it is not my thing. The food is amazing. The service ranges from decent and friendly to rude and incompetent, though, and the owner is absolutely awful. I feel really violated the way the owner talked to me, actually. I don't like when men think they have to show authority over women by touching them as they mansplain some bs. I would love to order from this place on a regular basis. It is close to my house and the food is wonderful, with excellent flavors, and tastes fresh. Their Syrian bread is divine. However, they have this weird bread policy that makes trying to get what should be a simple takeout order with maybe some hummus and baba ganoush and adequate bread infuriating. I can't find the intricate bread policy on a menu or on their website. Every time I think I have it down and know how to order what I want so that I get what I want, I run into some new snag in the bread policy. At this point it is too frustrating and anxiety-inducing to go there again, just because of the bread policy, and the owner putting his hand on my arm while he explained it to me rather than just letting me order what I wanted so I could leave and would come back again. So it's something like, if you order hummus or baba ganoush or a salad or something that comes with the Syrian bread, you can get as much bread as you need if you dine in without paying anything extra, whether you are sharing dishes or it's one person or whatever. If you get takeout, a dish comes with one piece of bread. Even a sampler hummus platter or the Arabican platter (sooo good) only come with one piece of bread. You would need more than one piece of bread, though, for an order of hummus, so if you don't want to have to serve whatever crackers or bread you might have lying around at home, or have to make an additional trip to a store for bread, order additional bread. The best value, they recommend if getting a couple of dishes, is a half dozen pieces of bread, or you can order the pieces individually. They say to think of it as an additional charge for takeout items. Fine. Here's the kicker, though, you cannot order extra bread on weekends. So what's the point of ordering takeout dishes like hummus that require something to dip them if you can't get enough bread for them? If I'm going to have to go to a store for some bread or crackers or carrots or whatever I want to eat with my hummus, I may as well just make my own hummus, right? Why bother with takeout? Whatever. The bread policy has become too complicated and insurmountable and anxiety-inducing to make it worth trying to order from this place again. That and the owner was incredibly rude when explaining that I could not order enough bread for my dishes, and actually put his hand on my arm while rudely explaining it to me. So if you are a person prone to anxiety or with PTSD I would recommend not bothering with this place, for takeout anyway. Awesome takeaway from what was my final traumatic experience at this place, though - - there is a really chill Middle Eastern place three miles away, Nahla's, that I may never have discovered if I hadn't left Elhams shaking and crying over f***ing bread. The people were super nice there and the place has a very refreshing casual and inviting vibe, especially after Elham's pretentious "we overlook the creek" ambiance and ridiculous bread policy. Nahla's is my new place, and no complaints that I have to drive across town to go there, because how lucky am I to have two Middle Eastern places within about three miles of my house in this part of Pennsylvania anyway? I hear there is a third, Mary's, and I will check that out soon. I am vegan and eat a mostly plant-based diet, so having a place to go where I can get fresh, healthy, good-tasting, fast takeout easily and reliably is something I really appreciate. Middle Eastern food accommodates that very well and I was so happy to have found Elhams with its wonderful food. After five or so attempts to just get an easy repeatable takeout order, three of which were total fails (Oh, I forgot to mention they completely messed up my order the first time) it's not worth the frustration of going there again. The food was good, when we actually got it. There was only one person working outside of the kitchen. She was answering the phone for the take-out orders, she was the hostess, the only person working the bar, and the only person waiting tables. Very lovely setting, nice and clean inside. We found the food to be just so-so. The stuffed grape leaves had the consistency of mushy oatmeal. The rice was mediocre and everything else was not as we had anticipated from the reviews. It was not busy and there was only one waitress. We have been coming here for years. The last two visits in the new location have been less than ideal. Ordered wings which is a normal gluten free option for my daughter. They came breaded. Sent back for reg plain chicken which they charged me for. Ordered cider which was 3.50 on menu but was actually $4 on bill. Lamb salad with grilled lamb (medium) came chewy and very well done. They have raised all of their prices. However the quality of the food served has gone downhill. Sad. read more

Great atmosphere and outstanding Mid eastern offerings of anything you have in mind to tempt your palette. We eat at Elhams as often as possible! The food is consistently good. The kibbi and grapeleaves are out of this world good!! Good variety of beer and always ice cold. My husband and I have been eating in Elham's for a very long time. This weekend was the first time we have gone there since they moved into the new building. As always the staff was wonderful and the service was excellent. The new building is beautiful. However, their portions are smaller and they have made changes in their food. Let me say that I have no objection to smaller portions if the quality is there. The kibbi wasn't very good. The spinach pie was terrible. The hummus was OK. The lamb was chewy. The grape leaves were still good, so was the rice. Their house dressing was wonderful. We took two family members there for lunch and spent $100.00. I asked for a small container of their house dressing to go, a very small clear plastic container that was half full. They charged me 75 cents for it. I didn't realize it until we left, my husband paid the bill. I really was not happy having spent $100.00 and being charged 75 cents for 2 teaspoon of dressing. That is a poor way to treat a customer. We were concerned that when they moved that things would change. They have. We wouldn't be going back. It is really unfortunate. I wonder how long they will be in business. read more
