I'm on the hunt for a new bike shop, and Elite Cycling didn't exactly win me over. I popped in looking for a seatpost replacement, and the overall vibe and attitude were not the best. They told me I should just fix it, and to their credit, gave me some tips. The thing is, we're moving, selling our house, packing, etc. and I'd rather they just help out with a seatpost or offer to schedule a time for me to have them fix it. To me, it felt dismissive. I then inquired about a new bike, something I've been excited about the past few years and saving up for. I told them my budget for it which is on par for a small car, and they said "We aren't gonna have anything in that range." I was a bit shocked, and they clarified it's more due to Covid disrupting the supply vs demand. I know that's an issue, but again, dismissive to be shot down when I have the cash ready to go for a good new road bike. Overall it felt like they couldn't wait to be rid of me in the five minutes I was there. I got to know the folks are two now defunct bike shops and actually enjoyed going in to them. This one definitely didn't bring it for me like the past ones. I get it, they're in a high dollar area and can afford to get by without the friendly neighborhood shop feel, but it's not for me, and I'd recommend looking elsewhere. read more

I can't give them a full review since I only visited the shop while in town for something. They didn't work on my bike so it's just my interaction with the crew there. It was ok. They weren't overly friendly, somewhat "elitist" if you know what I mean. Which is funny since they have no clue who I am or what I've done in the bike world. I went into this shop a couple times in the past looking for a pair of shoes or a part and they always seemed pretty chill. Recently I started riding my road bike and it started to become more uncomfortable with my feet and hands getting numb, a friend recommended me going to Elite to get my bike fitted... So I I made an apt, met Daniel for my fit (cool chill cat) then he starts getting in depth about what he was going to look for. After riding for about 10 minutes he did some measurements then he started adjusting the seat hight, saddled position, cleats and my bars. all I know is with the changes Daniel made my bike feels amazing and my hands and feet no longer get numb.. Took my bike in for service on 7/8/24, Dennis the manager seemed busy and uncaring, he begrudgingly took down my info and said my bike would be ready in two weeks..., but I left bike anyway. 15 days later I picked up the "repaired" bike and got it home, when I test rode it, the bike was unrideable, the chain was skipping beyond rideability. . I called elite right after my test ride, Ben my bike Tech listed on my receipt said the chain was skipping on him too but said it was the bike "functional" for him... Ben suddenly claimed the shifter now needed to be replaced, he said to bring it back to the shop and he would have to replace the shifter. I hung up the phone and took my bike to another local bike shop in Olathe, they diagnosed my problem in 5 minutes. It wasn't my shifter was bad after all it was the back wheel cassette needed replaced. The Olathe repair shop had my bike back and it was very rideable in 3 days. FYI, I paid $90.00 for a "new" back wheel elite they just happen to have laying around the shop, the bike shop in Olathe only charges $70.00 for the same wheel.... Readers do your homework on your local Bike repair shops, there are good ones and there are bad ones. elite didn't diagnose this repair properly off the get go and continued to guess their way through to the bitter end of me picking up an unrideable "repaired" bike to the tune of $136.00. Don't waste your time on these clowns in Overland Park pretending to play bike repair shop. read more

I bought a new Cervelo here about a year and a half ago. Before that they serviced my Giant. They are simply the best, most knowledgeable bike store in town. Before discovering Elite I used a number of other stores throughout the city for service. No other stores come close to the level of service they provide. After a grueling weekend of mountain bike shopping, we finally found the last bike shop we will ever go to EVER AGAIN in KC. Our salesman Michael, along with everyone who worked there, was super knowledgeable and helped match us with the perfect bikes. There were no anxious pitches or pushy sales tactics, just questions to feel out exactly what we were looking to do on our bikes. These guys are true bike enthusiasts and make anyone feel confident about their abilities, no matter the extent of status of rider you are. Elite moved to Mission Farms in Leawood, KS (you can see the building from 435 and Mission Rd). Every time I've been there, Jeff, the owner, has been nothing but helpful and courteous. Yes, he does sell high-end stuff, and high-end bike stuff is EXPENSIVE. Nothing against Elite. If you want to go ride Treks and Specializeds, go to Bike America or Bike Source. If you want a little nicer bike, come here. At least check them out. Jeff does have high-end gear, but he also doesn't stick to MSRP as religiously as Bike Source does. Triathletes in KC, this is your shop if you didn't know it already. Jeff is the go-to guy for getting your bike fit, as well as having an excellent selection of tri bikes, wetsuits, aero wheels, and whatever else you might need. This store isn't huge, but you should be able to find what you need. Elite carries Cervelo, Felt, Jamis, Ceepo, Argon18, and a few other brands. I really recommend checking Elite out, and at least talking to Jeff if you have any questions. If you are looking for a $300 paved trail cruiser, you probably should go elsewhere. But then again, if you're looking for that, why would you go to a place called "Elite"? read more

My wife and I came here after visiting BikeSource. They had to build the dual sport bike we wanted to try out and told us to come back in twenty minutes. We drove up to Mission Farms and were immediately greeted by an associate and talked through our options, what we wanted, what we looked at at other shops, and what they had. He grabbed a bike down for me to try, then grabbed one for my wife. We rode around in the parking lot and liked them. We told him our thoughts and he walked us over to the catalogue and showed us a few more options. We started asking all kinds of questions about up rights and hunched over racing bikes and the differences. He was very open and put us both on bikes with the curved handlebars. We tried them and preferred the uprights for what we needed. After we picked out our bikes, I asked if they could cut us a deal for two bikes and accessories, and the guy, I think he worked in the service section, handed us over to Jeff. Jeff was amazing. He told us what he could do for us, helped us pick out accessories and told us what we needed and what we didn't. When I asked him about kick stands and whether he uses one or not, he said "I don't. I lean it up against a tree or something. Then I have to pick it up because it falls over. Soooo". We bought the kickstands. We ordered our bikes on a Saturday, and he called me on the following Thursday to tell us our bikes came in and mine had a 3 inch scratch on it and informed me of my options. He said he could either contact Giant and see if they would discount it or he could order another bike and it would be another week. I told him to call Giant and see what they would do. He called me back and told me he got $50 off. I was very pleased with the $50 for just a paint scratch. I know I'm going to beat this bike up and this is the first of many scratches. We picked our bikes up on Friday. Overall, this is a great shop. After visiting Bike America, Velo+, The Trek Store, and BikeSource (in that order), I found my bike store, Elite Cycling. The whole staff was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, jovial, I can't say enough good or positive things about them. You could tell they all love what they do and were excited to be at work. They weren't pretentious and they weren't a bunch of young kids standing around a counter. They were awesome. read more

I was in the market for a new mountain bike and after shopping around ended up at elite cycling. They did a great job of listening to my needs and finding a bike that fit my price point. They even ordered a bike to fit me as I am 6'5" with no obligation to buy it. After a test ride I purchased the bike and have been riding trails around Kansas City. I had an issue where the chain broke just a few days in to owning the bike. The staff was quick to respond and replace the chain. They even cleaned up the bike for me as well. After being disappointed with the level of customer service at other bike shops in Johnson County, I stopped in Elite on Monday and had my confidence in local bike shops restored! Jeff, the co-owner of the store, greeted me when I walked in and took the time to show me some gear and some new bikes. Jeff really knows his business and answered all of my questions without being pushy. The store is big enough to handle lots of bikes and equipment but small enough that it's not overwhelming. I purchased a new helmet and plan to go back to test ride some new bikes. I think I've found my new favorite bike shop! read more

A surprising little bike store, the inside doesn't match the clean-cut(read:boring) exterior. Packed to the brim with bikes and gear, this little store has a whole lot of biking goodness. They seem to be geared, no pun intended, for the serious road biker, as evidenced by the carbon-fiber water bottle holders for $45. A decent selection of clothes, they seems to prefer to specialize in the harder to find accessories for bikers. Clearly a fairly new establishment, their customer service isn't the greatest. Hopefully a lesson they'll soon learn and correct. A two person staff, even when they're in the middle of a repair, should still be able to handle the salesfloor of this small store. Prices are high, as one would expect for a high-end bike store. Being a small business probably doesn't help either. Go here if you're looking for that hard to find item, just do your own research beforehand. Save up for a few months as well. read more

Jeff and the gang are great to deal with. Every time I have been in the store they have been very helpful no matter how busy they are. I had a fitting done there and have had my bike serviced. The bike is whisper quiet and fits perfect now. It goes to show you that you don't have to buy a bike at a place to get great service. By far, the best in the area. read more

Over $150 for a minor tune-up and gooseneck. My shifters were backwards but I forgot to point it out. You'd think a professional bike shop would fix that as part of a tune-up? Nope? He gives you lots of facts and not a lot of sales pitches, which is great. The thing I like about the bicycle world is it's like the auto world around the early 1900s. There are hundreds of brands and manufacturers. It's the coolest world to dabble in. Go visit Jeff, the owner at Elite. He's a very knowledgeable and cool cat! I have purchased two bikes. I first started with a performance road bike and when my riding style changed, Jeff helped me sell my bike and got me into a fitness/hybrid bike. I have been riding their bikes for 6 years now. I always get compliments and they take great care of me and the bike every year for my tune up. I can't speak highly enough about this company. I went to Elite Cycling to buy new tubes for the wheels on my stroller. The clerk carried in stroller while I was holding my daughter. He then checked the tires and informed me that I wouldn't need new tubes, and showed me the tip on keeping air in the stroller tires. He gave me good advice on an air pump and then carried the stroller out for me. The service and advice were both exceptional. I highly recommend this shop. read more

Elite Cycle has been a great bike shop for me! Last summer I broke a spoke less than a week before I was leaving for a state tour--BAK. They were able to rush the replacement spoke in and get my wheel fixed in time. They also tuned up by bike for me--free of charge. I thought that was so nice :). I'm a Giant fan, so I love their store, they have all price ranges of bikes, and gear. They are also a sponsor of several of the triathlons I race in. Everyone is very nice and helpful. read more

I was shopping for an entry level road bike. I had been consistently told that "fit is the most important thing" in buying a road bike. But how do you know if the bike fits well if you're not used to riding one? I went to three different bike stores before I stopped by Elite Cycling. This store was the only one that actually put me on a bike trainer and watched how I looked on the frame. A bike that I almost purchased from another store actually felt quite uncomfortable once it was adjusted to fit my body. Ruled out immediately. We tried another bike and ruled it as well. I ended up ordering one based on Jeff's recommendation. I actually don't have that bike yet, but just the fact that the co-owner took the time to watch how well my body fit the frame of the bike means a lot. Road bikes aren't cheap, and I'd hate to spend all that money just to find out that the frame doesn't work for me, simply because no one helped me choose the right bike.
