Found Elite Rooter from Google search to unclog my home's main drain and they were there within the hour. Grayson arrived with a helper and unclogged the drain on the kitchen/garage side of my house, but informed me that some of the pipe was broken, as they used a camera to look. Said there was no bottom of pipe to carry liquids. I was able to view and he showed me. Coincidently, Grayson confirmed after my wife showed him a wet gravel area outside our house, that we have a water leak in our water line below our home's slab. Grayson showed me my water meter and the dial that keeps moving as proof of a leak. Our kitchen floor felt unusually warm from the hot water line being broken in the slab. Warm water meant that at least the hot water line was broken. My house in Clairemont was built in 1962 and I knew there was a time that this would happen, but to be faced with replacing drains and water lives in my home at the same time blind sided me. Grayson advised to make new drain line on the exterior of the home and tie into the main drain and to avoid tearing up slab inside my home. Seemed like a sensible solution to me. For the water line leak, Grayson recommended new lines from the street meter to the house, then up to attic and throughout house. This was a lot for me to absorb, two major projects at the same time. I asked him for the cost and he asked for time to work up a price. A few minutes later he gave me prices verbally: $25k for the repipe job and $17k for the new drain line. When I expressed my surprise, he said they have financing available and gave me the price per month I could pay by financing. I asked him for a written quote and he sent me an email from a finance firm named Good Leap that was not a quote, but an estimated monthly payment. I asked him again for an itemized quote for his estimates for a new drain and repiping, saying that this is a big decision and that I was not going to make a decision at that time. I felt pressured by Grayson to make a decision. Grayson said that he would follow up with a written quote by email and that it would be sent later that night (Friday) or the following day, Saturday. As of Sunday evening, I have not received a quote. I wrote a check for the cost of the drain cleaning, gave it to him, and asked for a written receipt. He said that one would be emailed to me. I still have not received one as of Sunday night. Since this experience I have researched my situation and found that I do not need a total repipe of my house to stop the leaking. I have isolated the leak and was able to stop it by turning off the hot water line valve going to my kitchen and garage, while not interrupting flow to the rest of my house. I'll need to replace lines to kitchen and garage from my hot water heater to fix my problem, but the cost will be a fraction of the $25,000 he quoted me. For the drain line, I am going to get a second opinion. New drains may be necessary long term, but no need to make a quick decision. What I learned in this encounter: 1. Don't trust good looking, smooth talking service techs who expect you to make a decision to spend $42,000 on the spot without first receiving a written quotation. Elite Rooter San Diego, I called them with a house 4 inch main line blockage. I had the 4 inch cast iron pipe vertical open end exposed next to the sidewalk. They show up with a 1/4 inch snake, that size is used on a bathtub drain. I ask them. why are you using the toy ? The reply if the 1/4 inch doesn't go thru than the bigger machine won't. THAT IS A LIE ! I have over 40 years experience managing 1,000 units. They say I need a 1200 dollar jet service. I clear it using a 25 dollar drain bladder. Two months later the line is still clear. I had the worst experience with this company. I called them for an emergency -- a clogged kitchen sink at a rental property. The technician showed up, said he tried to unclog it but couldn't, and told me I needed to replace a metal pipe connected to the sink. The quote? $4,200. He first crawled under the house (not easy) came back with some photos. The pipe he saw was sagging which he said could be part of the problem. He tried his snake but no luck. Called in another tech who brought a camera. Found a blockage at 15' but (for reasons I don't fully understand) were unable to clear it. They quoted me a price to hydro-jet or fully replace sagging pipe. There was no hard sell. Told them I needed to think about it. I paid $499 down and let them start digging. They told me that half of the sewer pipe needed replacing for over $21,000. I told them to let me try and get the funds together. I also got a 2nd and 3rd opinion. 3 weeks later I had to hire a new plumber who fixed the origional problem for only $1,200. Elite came out and demanded $5000 for only diging part of the origional hole, no repair, no filling back up, no new concrete, and left all the old dirt and concrete pieces in my front yard. I would no longer recommend this business. Two of my prior visits were emergencies and the team promptly arrived day of and fixed my issues. The cost was hefty but when it comes to a water emergency, I was OK biting the bullet. HOWEVER for non emergency services, their prices are excessive and not market competitive. They quoted me $1,300 for a job that ended up costing a little over $200. On this day in question, this company also forgot my morning appointment and didn't show up until about 5pm. The plumber who did come didn't have his ladder with him so he couldn't access the roof to properly snake our line but somehow still determined the work needed would be invasive and excessive including wall and pipe cutting. Turns out all it needed was a snake from the roof (there was sand in the pipe) and to replace a broken nut. read more

Dishonest company, dishonest pricing. Had Elite Rooter come out to clear our clogged drain line. We had already used our 6 foot snake to attempt to clear the line, and needed a longer snake. We had already disconnected all the under sink piping and opened the access to drain at the front of the house. We didnt get upfront pricing, which was our mistake. The guy took all of about a 1 MIN DOING WORK, HE LEFT ALL THE ACCESS WIDE OPEN, DIDNT CLOSE THE DRAIN OR RE-HOOK THE SINK PIPING OR ANYTHING - JUST CHARGED US $200 AND LEFT. His boss showed up 30 min after the guy left, assuming he would still be here doing work. We expressed how displeased we were with the cost of the service and how nothing was put back together. The boss asked if we were happy with the drain camera footage that we got. What drain camera footage?! The guy never offered it, never took any footage, and certainly never showed any of it to us - which is apparently supposed to be their standard service? We asked the boss for partial refund and he said the guy was new and he would get back to us. We've called and emailed multiple times to follow up and the company has ignored our requests. Do yourself a favor and call another plumber right now. Get at least one other quote before you let Elite Rooter onsite to do any work on your property. Also, make sure you get explicit terms in writing. They make big promises and then try to get you to take out loans to cover work they said insurance would cover. Their bids are usually a third more than you'll pay another licensed and reputable plumber. Trust me, it pays to be patient. Elite Rooter is notorious for hiring unlicensed plumbers, which is legal in California but contrary to claims on their website. However, they also hire completely untrained people and send them out into the field to work on your home. Unless you know something about plumbing and intend to sit there and watch them as they work, be very careful about hiring this company to perform anything more than a simple drain clog removal. The job they recently did at my home cost over $10k (originally priced at almost $16k) and there were so many CA code violations and erroneously installed pipes (wrong angle, too steep an angle or simply unglued pipes already buried and concreted over) that my contractor couldn't put our house back together without redoing the entire job. In the meantime, Elite Rooter is telling me they won't refund my money because they gave me a discount. You do that math... Just a few photos of their shoddy work: - Vanity sink drain sticks out past where drywall should be set. - Water bottle shoved in an old tub drainpipe that was still connected to the main drain leading out of the house; this would've been a nightmare scenario had it backed up before we discovered it. - Uncapped pipes at dirt level with dirt filling pipe. read more

Multiple drains were overflowing at our property. Elite Rooter removed the damaged pipe and replaced it with ABS, which included cutting multiple access homes in the home's foundation, outside concrete, and driveway. The access holes/pipes created and installed by Elite were not properly sealed and we immediately got drain roaches. We had to pay to have them sealed and for the extermination. Additionally, Elite Rooter was made aware that they caused a gas leak at our house after their work. My tenant informed them multiple times that she smelled gas, but Elite told her it was nothing and never informed me, the property owner, of the complaint. My tenant finally called San Diego Gas and Electric who confirmed there was a leak and did an emergency gas shut-off. I had Elite come out to inspect the gas line, and they said they did a pressure test and confirmed leak was from the outside line running along the outside of the house. They quoted me nearly $15,000 for the repair. I had another company come out for a second opinion. This company did a pressure test and confirmed that the leak with NOT on the outside line, but was actually under the house in the foundation. This was evidence that  Elite had actually not performed the necessary tests to confirm the leak location and was trying to charge me to replace the wrong line. On top of this, the other plumber discovered that the crack in the line in the foundation was caused by Elite Rooter during their work cutting into the foundation of the home. Elite Rooter cracked the gas line and sealed the access holes back up with an active gas leak. My tenant complained of smelling gas, and they dismissed her. I had to pay this other company and move my tenants out of the home during the time that the line was being repaired. No one at Elite, including Ashlea Hedrick in management, will return my emails or calls. This was both costly and dangerous, and I am asking for compensation for the repair and time I was unable to have my renter in the home or I will report this to the state licensing board. read more

They also didn't set the water temp right so another guy after had to come in and adjust it. Overall crappy experience, but at least everyone who I spoke to was pretty nice. Hired these guys because my sink was backed up. I didn't have a clean out so they snaked from my pipe below the sink. So my $79 clean out went up to $199. Erin was a pleasant guy but I'm very unhappy with the service provided. He told me they'd do the camera for me for free. The camera guy came 30 minutes later and now they said they needed to add a cleanout, now we're at $500. Then they said that they still couldn't snake the pipe, even though they did 60 feet earlier. Now they wanted $5500. Very unhappy as I feel they should have made a better effort to snake this. Do I need to replace these pipes, probably, eventually but holding me hostage for an arbitrary fee for a job they easily could have done in 1 day makes me question all of it. Called at 9:00 this morning for an appointment to fix a clogged kitchen sink. They gave me a time of between 10:00 and 12:00. 12:00 pm came around and no one called. Called them for an annual laundry standpipe clearing for sluggish draining. One nice gentleman/technician arrived on time. He immediately commented on the age, small size and material of 65 year old cast iron pipe (I already knew that). He tried to snake it, then called another tech with a camera from 30 min away. The 2nd tech DID get up on the roof (other access) and showed me the video (roof access usually an extra charge ) but they did tell me no extra above the advertised drain cleaning charge. Both discussed how "hydro jetting" would be much better for my situation and that they could do it the same day. Fine - until! AFTER the big pitch for the hydro jetting they told me the cost would be $1,500!!!!! IMMEDIATELY after my loud gasp, it became $1,300 - still outrageous so I declined that service. I was skeptical, so asked around for usual hydrojetting charges and found out it would be approximately $500 from several other companies. NOT NICE! and sneaky. I felt like they were trying to take advantage of a naive lady senior citizen. Well I may be old and female, but not stupid. They got 3 stars because they did go up on the roof at no extra charge and the drain now flows freely but buyer beware! read more

Experience was pretty bad!!. Fall into a tricky and untruthful act from associates. Before signing the contract mentioned about all inclusive coverage fixing and taking care of the clogged pipe. However, after the findings; associates changed the tone and said he never said it was all inclusive to fix the problem; only detection. So, at the end; my problem was not solved and at the end two associate asked another 10k on top of 1.2k I paid to pinpoint the clogged location/objects.
