I spent about $14 for an açai bowl their tropical mango bowl I believe. I had some modifications since I didn't like the raw coconut offering or the banana so I opted for sliced almonds and extra mango with almond butter on top. After waiting a few minutes, looking at the bowl, it didn't look like much and sadly it didn't taste like much either. The almond butter was globed on top and made it really difficult to eat. After bypassing the almond butter I was able to get into the açai which was way too sweet. I'm not sure what type of açai they use, but it did not taste like a freshly prepared açai it tasted more artificial and overly sweet. It may have also been sweet because of the honey I believe they put on top of it. The combination of the açai with the honey and then almond butter was way too sweet. The mango was OK not as firm as I would want it to be and the granola was at the bottom at the bowl and also sprinkled on top, but unfortunately it was the worst acai bowl I've ever had. I feel like I like being able to eat so many fun toppings even more than the actual acai base, so I love how they have a huge variety of ones to choose from. Didn't know the Spectrum opened up an Earthbowl until recently and I placed an order online as I was in a rush. I will say that some of my favorite toppings were out of stock online, like the mulberries and cacao nibs. I remember they would always load me up on those and they were so good! I was craving acai about a week later and went to order again online, but those two toppings were still unavailable so I didn't end up ordering again. All in all, still love Earthbowl but I think the Lake Forest location still has the #1 spot in my heart. The sizes here have also gotten a little smaller and prices have gone up, but I get that a lot of time has passed. I'll definitely be waiting for those toppings to be restocked and if I'm at the Spectrum again, would love to give it a try again!

The Irvine location, however, was a completely different story. The Strawberry Shortcake Smoothie was rich, flavorful, fresh-tasting, and beautifully vibrant in color. It was so good that after my first sip, I turned around before even getting back to my car and bought a second smoothie--the Mint Chocolate Chip. A few days later, I came back again. That's how impressed I was. The contrast between the two locations was shocking. The Irvine team clearly knows how to make these smoothies consistently and with the right balance of ingredients. I'd rate the Peruvian Steak an 8.5/10. The bread was perfectly toasted, the mustard added just the right amount of kick, and all of the flavors complemented each other well. It would have been a perfect 10/10 if one side of the bottom bun hadn't been completely soggy from the mustard spilling out of the sandwich. I ordered my sandwich to go, so if I had waited until I got home to eat it, I think the entire bottom of the sandwich would have been soggy. That was disappointing. For to-go orders, I think Mendocino Farms should automatically serve the mustard in a separate sauce container to help prevent this issue. My other qualm was with the pickup process. When I received the text that my order was ready, it read: "Your order at Mendocino Farms - 10 - UC Irvine is ready for pickup. Please proceed to the counter." Some restaurants have signs explaining whether customers should grab their to-go orders themselves or wait for a team member to assist them. I waited patiently at the counter for several minutes while a team member saw me standing there but didn't acknowledge me. After about five minutes, I finally asked, "Can I grab my order?"
